good one! :okay:....but I am just wondering why he include the tree in that picture? :? .....perhaps he wants the leaves to frame the picture but then again it is more of a distraction than a framing element.

Little Genting is a mere 5 mins from my house........in fact my house is on da same hill.....hhehehe.....not that high only ;)

Most forumers that I've met in Malaysia were brought up there by your truly with the exception of Zahirnya (still got no chance yet), Glenj (No time) and Seed (forgot! :D.....he visited lotsa places that me me totally forgotten bout it! :D)........

Got la. There was a story about this girl that was raped and murdered inside that building around the 80's and she haunted the building ever since.

Eh..imagine you have to work alone inside a 15 storey building in the middle of the night when the lift already been off for security reason. And suddenly around 2am someone ring the bell of your office then knock on the door and when you look into the security camera there is no one around. God. Tell me about it.

Perhaps the leaves were intentionally captured to provide the contrast between concrete jungle and the real one, that which is man-made and that which is natural, and perhaps to reinforce KL's image as not only a garden city, but a city surrounded by gardens, greenery and hills.. (just as KLIA was conceived on the forest-in-the-airport and airport-in-the-forest concept). Makes sense? :)

Looking fwd to making another trip to KL in the coming months, and hopefully, to Little Genting :D

Reading that gave me goose bumps :D

Many offices, especially the older ones, are inhabited by 'the others'.. (if you know what i mean). I had a friend who was able to 'see' these things, and when he paid a visit to my office, he told me about the presence of 3 middle-aged 'aunties' hanging around the pantry.. gosh! I never felt comfortable working late thereafter :D

Usually those whom could see 'the others' wouldn't reveal to those who don't........one of my grandaunt could but she never tell anyone bout her experience much esp children fearing the living would interfere with the dead. ;)

Hi guys!...Im new to the forum, well kind of new actually, been hanging around for some time. I finally gathered the momentum to post a reply today. It’s great to see a bunch of Malaysians boasting about their level of urbanization. I’m one major fan of skyscrapers and anything to do with how cities live, eat and grow.

Szehoong, those night skylines of KL from "Littel Genting"are just superb, especially the first one. I simply adore KL. KL has got a bit about just everything, which is maybe why we say it has an identity crisis... but I think that’s the best part about a city. We get bored of boxes and spheres too quickly. The architecture in KL is a distinctive blend of people and their cultures, even though it maybe one of the youngest capitals around. I hope to be a part of this amazing forum, until then... a Happy Easter to all.

China is such a big country~ Cannot compare one lah. Malaysia's population is 0.026 of China's~ Shanghai and Shengzhen are very big cities, unlike KL lah~ You should compare Shanghai/ShengZhen to NYC (Although I don't think You should compare Shengzhen lah, people will laugh :D)
As for the number of buldings, aiya China got money mah~ Everyone in China invests 1 dollar and they'll have $1,200,000,000.00~ :D:D

IMO, KL owns one of the best skylines in SEA.

Some question about little genting. I've never been up there before. You guys care to share with me more about it? Like is there any benches to sit and enjoy the view? Can we go there by car? Is there sufficient parking, what street is it on, etc. I really feel like going there everynight when I go to KL. The view is probably the best I've ever seen! I'm so proud to be Malaysian. I kept telling my friends how great KL is now as well as the power skyline little genting offers.

By the way, I'll graduate next year and I'll start finding a job in KL~ Just wondering if it's very hard to get a job in KL. I went thru some Job Search in KL and there were some positions but the pay was lower than I expected. Is it possible to get a job with more than RM 2200 per month with the Econ degree in KL? How much would the rent be for the apartment in KL? What's the estimate living expense in KL? Is it risky to run a 3C business in KL?(My friend is thinking about that)

OKay...answers to ya questions:

Is there any benches to sit and enjoy the view?
Yes....there are stone benches available. There is also a playground there if you are interested to sit on the swing! :D

Can we go there by car?
You MUST go there by car. No public transport go up there. :(

Is there sufficient parking?
Yea......parking there is plenty. You parked by the roadside and could sit in the car while enjoying the view. Some couple do hanky panky stuff in their steamy car! :D

What street is it on?
Err......I dun think there is a street name but the road leads to Taman Bukit Permai.

What to do if I am hungry?
There are hawker stalls like mamak, junk food peddlers, Drink sellers and Ramly burger stalls there.

Is it safe there?
Yes. Police patrols there regularly. But to be on the safe side - lock your cars lah! :D

If you wanna go there next time just gimme a buzz. I'll bring you there...it is just 5 mins from my house. I dun go there so often hehehe :D

What kind of job are you looking for exactly. Basically from my point of view, it is not that hard to find a job, well for experience worker, but for fresh graduate it might be a bit difficult. You can find it no doubt, but seldom a company offer a salary of RM2.2k for a fresh graduate; I mean for a basic salary, unless you count other things like overtime, allowance and etc. There are no doubt that there are some company out there that are willing to offer you the salary that you looking for...but so far, I haven't found it yet.

There are some part of KL where the rent is considerably afforable compared to other area. The main thing that you have to consider will be the distance from your home to your office. No point having a cheap rent, then have to commute all the way to you office..especially if you drive a car. Nowadays I have to say that most people like to choose a place that near to lrt. Go for a room instead of the whole apartment.

Estimate living in KL :? Varies between people. But for me, food will be the largest expenses no doubt about it :D ..After deducting everything, month I will be able to save RM800, which I think is good enough.

Job market since after Chinese New Year till now is VERY good.

Of course pay would be low if you're a fresh graduate......I tried in vain searching for pay higher than 2K but dun bother.....the higest I could find last time is just touching 2K only. ( should have took the job! ) ......once your're confirmed or after a certain time .....guarantee got pay raise one.....BUT it varies from company lah. ;)

Some of my friends got pay raise like twice in a year!

Renting apartment in KL varies lah........You're looking at the entire apt or just room? :?

Living expenses? Well....let say you could survive comfortably with even a RM1500 pay ( minus car/home installment lah.....or in my case - credit card repayments  )

3C? Apa itu? :D

aiyoh......okay lemme try:

From Jalan Loke Yew just go straight till you see the Pertama roundabout (Cheras bound). Go on the flyover at the roundabout. Then you'll pass by BP on your left....go straight till you see a bus stop to your left. Just before the bus stop....there is an exit ......turn left.

okay.....follow the road and you'll see a Christian cemetery on your left and a Muslim cemetery on your right......go straight......and you'll see traffic lights......just go straight and at the roundabout - go 12 o'clock.

Go straight till you meet another traffic light which is next to another BP (BP on your right). Keep left at the lights. Go straight.......the next light also keep straight (you'll see a Caltex and a Petronas on your right right after this set of lights). Okay.....you'll see another traffic light and for landmark check - there is a mosque on your right. Go straight and you'll pass by an Esso petrol station. In front is another roundabout - turn 3 o'clock.

Go straight and about 300m another roundabout - turn 3 o'clock again.........just follow the road up the hill and you'll be there! ;)

"Siu Want Tank" (try to say it in English and you'll get the equalent of the Cantonese pronounciation) - directly translate to "Little Genting" lah. I dunno why.....but the phrase 'Lil Genting' isn't popular amongst the Malay......maybe because the nickname originates from Cantonese so most Malay's aren't aware of it? :? ;)

3C? Apa itu? :D[/QUOTE]

Yo guys~ Thanks for your response~ I just need to survive and know how much exactly we spend in a month so that I can kind of calculate my budget ma~

Anyways, as for the term 3C, I believe it came from Japan. It's very popular in Taiwan too~ My friend told me that term, otherwise I wouldn't have know, just like you guys :D It means business concentrating on Computers, Cameras, and Communications(Cell phones, etc.), that's why it's called 3 C's I think. But of course that kind of business also does other business besides the 3 C's, like PDA's, home appliances, etc.

Ther reason I asked this is because I can never find a better website regarding this~ Even if I find it, it's very outdated, like never updated for more than 2 years :D I think there're too many outdoor activities to offer in Malaysia, that's why they don't spend time doing the websites and stuff :D
Wei~ as for the apartment thing, is it possible to get a better view of downtown KL there? As for job, i'm wondering for fresh graduates, do the companies provide training? If so, how long will the training be? What is the minimum wage that one can take in order to survive? In fact, Degree of Economics is pretty general. So I don't really have any preference of what I'm going to do. My thought is, as long as the pay is reasonable, as long as it's offered in KL, as long as it's doable to me, I'll go for it. Top of my head, I can only think about sales and banks. But I heard sales is that you have to run around the city all the time, although the wage is very good compared to other jobs, I think it's not my style~ I don't like to walk, I'm super lazy :D:D. Is there any positioin such that you can like have a space or desk in the company and do the paperworks or documentations and the pay is reasonable one? Any more suggestion of what I can do:D? Appreciated lah, Hehe, sounds like I'm pretty useless :D:D:D

Thanks Sze Hoong, I'll remember your offer :D

Wei Zahirnya~ when you go up there, take some pictures and share with us~

Yo guys~ Thanks for your response~ I just need to survive and know how much exactly we spend in a month so that I can kind of calculate my budget ma~

I guess if you spend a lot on eating outside, not the mamak one la..and clubbing and the rest what the KL people who seem to have lot of money try to do but in reality dont really have that cash flow, I personally think that does not matter how much you get you will not survive.

My first job was with Citibank and they paid me RM1500. Fresh graduate, have to do sales, not that much in terms of commission cause I hate to do sale and though I think I cannot survive with that amount of money, I did manage to go thru it.

Then came AmBank. I got RM1800. Still survive. Now with Maybank. Though Sze did point out that my salary is more than enough for me, but the bigger your paycheck the bigger is the slices of your expenses. Again I guess it will on one punya style of life :D

I guess for me RM1800 you can survive and live a decent life as a start.
And if I'm not mistaken, a fresh graduate starting salary will start from RM1500 to RM2k.

I love the apartment in Seksyen 10, Wangsa Maju, especially the Seri Kiabalu apartment cause all the apartment have a view of downtown KL and it is really nice. For me that is the closest to KL and near lrt where one can start, unless you want to stay in Gurney Height.

wah...that's very lucky!

....and when you talk bout pay you dun factor in EPF lah :bash: :D

I've got so many engineer friends whom starting pay is just around 2K. But of course that was like the job market 2 years agolah. The job market now is not bad.;)

Actually he's VERY VERY lucky cos usually the pay in Penang is slightly lower than in Klang Valley. I've got lotsa Penang frens looking for job too but ended up in Penang. And Penang usually got a bit more jobs than in Klang Valley ;)

Hey, my brother is thinking about getting a job in KL too, he'll graduate at the same time as me, probably next august or september. He's studying Electrical engineering and minoring in business. Is IT job popular in KL than Penang?

Klang Valley definitely have more jobs than in Penang BUT what I meant is per capita (sorry for the confusion earlier). It is easier to find job in Penang as the job market here in KL is very competitive ;)

EPF is Employees Provident Fund (KWSP - Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja). That means your salary is deducted a little (5%) every month to be saved and employer's contribution is at 10% of your pay - to be saved till you;re 55 years old then only can redraw the money. It is to make sure you;ve got enough money when you're old :)

I am not too sure bout IT job market but I think both places equally as popular........

ZaHiRnYa???
June 28th, 2004, 02:30 AM
Eh..where got 5% one :?. Labour law regulation mention that on your part, you have a choice of either 9 or 11% for deduction on EPF. On the employer side it will start at 12% mah. Maybank pay 16% if I'm not mistaken for confirm staff.

Well..techically your account in EPF consist of 3 different acccount, mainly account 1, 2 and 3. Of all the monthly deduction that you have to surrender each month: 60% will go to account 1, 30% to account 2 and 10 % to account 3. Account 1 is for retirement fund, which like Sze mention, can only be withdraw when you reach your retirement age. Account 2 if you want to buy house, or rennovate your house, then you can use the money in that account for that kind of purpose. Account 3 is only for medication purpose. :D

Ooo... so confusing. Lets say my salary is RM 1000. My salary will be deducted 5% so it would be RM 50, plus the company paid me 10% or RM 100. So the total amount would be RM 150 save in EPF ??? Hmm... By the way what does SOSCO stand for?

I think if there're more 250-350m tall buildings in between, the skyline will look better. But if there're more buildings taller and equal tall to PTT and KL tower, KL skyline will lose its uniqueness~ Of course that was just my opinion lah~ :D:D:D

I think the only thing KL misses is its density and the infrastructure. The skyline will look much more "tidy" from any angle if the city planning is good, such as Toronto. :)

big reason why they are always been good photographs of western cities (particulary american ones) is because they are just well planned - buildings are centralised, street patterns are in grids and in some instances they position the CBD on natural landmarks i.e. mountains, lakes or sea to get excellent view of the city. i hope you people know what i'm talking about............ :weirdo: :weirdo:

Actually my zoom lens can go up to roughly about 14X (I dunno cos I am using an SLR and we dun measure by 'how many times zoom'). Technically mine is at 470mm telephoto. ;)

The picture above is actually a digitally enhanced picture the one below:

http://ftp.maxis.net.my/szehoong/pix/genting/img_0490sm.jpg

^^^ This picture is the maximum optical zoom my lens would take.......and because of the low noise level of my CCD and since I uses the max 6.3 megapixels resolution; I could still crop and enhanced the favourable part :D

So somebody can see from those Space Shot (above) too.

http://www.pbase.com/reddevil7/image/41647279.jpg

Space Shot is a rapid vertical ascent and descent amusement ride. It lifts up to 12 people into the air, providing an exciting G-force on the way up and a feeling of weightlessness on the way down. Passengers are also able to take in the scenery around them on the way up, as this ride is an open-air ride. Strapped onto seats, four to a side of the tower, the starting sequence cannot be initiated until all passengers are safely secured to their seats. Minimum Height Requirement: 137cm (4.6 feet)
