How does it look like now?

That is so ugly because it is NOT a new stadium, but the reinnovated one.

That is really ugly (above) but (most likely) this option will be approved.

This stadium is for WC 2018 and the project will NOT be realised if Yaroslavl will be removed from FIFA cities list for WC.

There is new stand built before the Russia's bid won. http://www.shinnik.com/upload/iblock/ccf/CIMG6719.jpg

Unfortunately, it would not be demolished -> so we have ugly views like above.

Now it looks like (old photo, without new South Stand):

Yes. but this stand was built just one year ago.. and nobody want to remove it. Maybe there will be good proposal to reduce that hole (move a field, etc.)

First proposal is based on second - existing stand is closed by the roof.

Final version of conception:

World Cup capacity: 45,000
Regular capacity 30-45 000 (depending on average attendance of FC Shinnik games in premier league in future)
Parking places: 700 (underground)

South Stand will be saved, but the current roof will be dismantled and moved to Slavneft Stadium (FC Shinnik-res, training pitch). Other (old) stands will be moved to the Slavneft too.
Athletic track will be removed.

Reconstruction begins in 2013.

Good news: mayor of Yaroslavl criticized the project and invited author of Amsterdam Arena in Yaroslavl regional WC-2018 committee, and added that stadium should have a roof.

How is that good news?
A city gets unique design by renown architects and yet municipality questions its quality. On what basis?

Main reason - to make a stadium self-sustaining and useful not only during football matches, but all year long - hosting various events, concerts, exhibitions. That's why mayor invited Yan Tilmons in WC-2018 regional committee and said that project should have a roof.

and why didn't they think of that before ordering this design? It really sounds embrrasing.

I'd say "that's Poland!" if it wasn't Russia. It's very shameful that public authorities act irrationally and either question decisions made by previous ones or make decisions that are questionable in the first place. Not judging which governor done a stupid thing, but fact is, public money will be spent twice. And quite some...

That's harsh. Rio has a crappy athletics stadium and it still hosts Summer Olympics...

+1. New mayor thinks the same, so there will be a new project.

But Rio defeated their contenders with other amazing projects, and The Olympic Stadium of Rio is far from being a crappy stadium. Yaroslavl its no St. Petesburg, Sochi or Kazan, its not well known, so to be chosen they should invest in a good project for the WC, otherwise, it will lose.
