It is good but it should be enough for Sokha and other local hotels. What we need to bring in is best and well known brand like Shangri-La, Marriot...

Every international city needs an international big chain hotel brand. It's for branding the city, promoting tourism and jobs. The service at the big brand hotels is very high quality and this is something the domesticated or Cambodian home-owned hotels can learn from. It will bring up the quality of hotels in the city. :)

Some people got drowned by American brand. It is very sad. It should not matter what brand or who owns it, as long as the rating conforms to international standard, it should be fine.

It is so sad you need a foreign entity to brand your city. You want people to come here for anghor wat, not Hilton. Cambodian should be able to build their own world recognised 5 star hotel.

Hotel de la Paix was voted the World Best Hotel in 2009 if I'm not wrong by American Magazine!

:ohno:

EVERY MAJOR INTERNATIONAL CITY has a branded hotel chain. It's not just about the brand but about business. It's an image. To have such a corporation in your city means it's a corporate destination and helps to promote more business. A city can't grow, expand and improve without business and cash flow.

Although Sokha is nice, I do think in the long run that the more known international branded hotel names will make their way into the kingdom.

Hotel de la Paix is Siem Reap? or is it in Paris, Switzerland, or Laos, or Thailand ?

I havn't used it, so can't comment on how good it is, the SR one in particular, even if the hotel group is recognised as world best, it doesn't necessary mean the one in Cambodia is up to standard.

These branded hotel wants its present in international recognised city, the city doesn't need it.

These branded hotel doesn't make your city a major international city. They are not here because the city is not good enough.

Fully support althought it is not nessessary but I belive it have addional value to the city. On top of what you said, they bring more well paid job, lift the service standard, they fully pay tax and especially they are present internationally as traveller may experiences with them. Of course, the traveller can choose to say in local hotel if they want to try.

Sokha is Vietnamese owned

No it's not, Sokha Hotels is a Cambodian company. Sok Kong might be an ethnic Vietnamese Cambodian but that doesn't mean the company is Vietnamese owned.

Then why is the funding Vietnamese and why they had to wait for the visit of VN Prime minister before signing huh ?

He is Cambodian and Cambodia business. 99% of his staffs are Cambodian and last month he also signed loan agreement with Chinese bank for US$150 million to fund Bokor mountain Development. There is nothing wrong to have good connection with VN and other country As business partner. Let get back to the topic

AHMS luxury Cambodia resort to woo medical, wellness tourists

Greg Lowe, Bangkok, May 23, 2013

AHMS Collection, a hotel development firm, will expand its operations beyond Thailand in early 2015 with the opening of its luxury private island resort in Cambodia targeting the high-end medical, beauty and wellness-focused tourism sectors.

Akaryn Koh Krabeay Retreat & Spa is located a 15-minute boat ride away from the resort-town of Sihanoukville.

Anchalika Kijkanakorn, founder and owner of Akaryn Hospitality Management Services (AHMS), said: “Unlike many other resorts we won't be just selling the accommodation; it's about the whole holistic experience, the seclusion, the villas, the technology (of the spa treatments), everything.

“We’re targeting guests who want to stay for seven to 14 days. Part of that is due to the location, which is quite out of the way, but mostly it will be down to the experience they can have there.”

The resort, which is being built at a cost of 700-900 million baht (US$20.9-26.8 million), will feature 40 pool villas ranging from 120-150m2, a medical spa and a meditation cave, among other facilities. Room rates will start from US$1,000 per night.

AHMS will work with travel consultants specialising in medical, meditation and anti-ageing tourism to tap established and emerging markets. “The world has become so small that I can't say we'll be focusing on the European markets as there’s so much opportunity from emerging markets in Asia,” she said.

“The UAE will also be one of our key targets as Arabs are very big on medical tourism these days.”

Anchalika explained that corporate fam trips would be key in educating consultants about the property and helping them convince clients that Cambodia can support such high-end products.

Connectivity will have improved by the first quarter of 2015, when the resort is scheduled to open, as AirAsia and Lion Air will have increased their capacity by then, she said.
