PPJ January 4th, 2012, 07:26 AM Move to reduce traffic chaos on Kannur NH
KOZHIKODE: The trial run of traffic signals installed at Korappuzha and Moorad bridges on the Kozhikode-Kannur NH is all set to begin today. The signals are expected to reduce traffic snarls by controlling the volume of vehicle at a given time.
The signal lights that cost Rs 12 lakh have been installed under the aegis of the Road Safety Authority in association with a private agency. "The trial run was delayed as we were for the electricity connection at Moorad bridge near Vadakara," said regional transport officer of Vadakara Rajeev Puthalath.
District collector P B Salim will inaugurate the full-fledged functioning of the traffic signal lights on Wednesday. Two signal lights each have been installed on either sides of the bridges to control the movement of heavy vehicles and light vehicles separately, said the RTO. The fully automated signal lights are expected to reduce the work load of police personnel.
The Road Safety Authority is also planning to install similar traffic signal system near Koyilandy bus stand.

Good to see that they built a wide bridge in 1982 when we had very few number of vehicles on road. I see even now bridges are built at the same or even lesser width!
simpliCITY February 6th, 2012, 12:37 PM AFAIK, first flyover of Calicut is AKG Flyover (http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=11.2421202&lon=75.7832113&z=19&l=0&m=s)over Francis Road, Not the one mentioned by Sanju. And that one is not wide as CH flyover (http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=11.2564153&lon=75.7774794&z=19&l=0&m=s). but still look better than the Arayidathupalam one. If it was built by Britishers they would have not made it in the unplanned way it is now, hotel Dewar would have been not there, they would have made the railway station road straight towards Oyitty Road without that mega hair pin turn in front of Deewar, we have to praise Britishers for their engineering expertise, here in UK you cant find a single road without proper pavements and landscaping.

K@PP!R!S February 8th, 2012, 06:55 AM The Tamarassery Ghat Road will remain out of bounds for container lorries though it has been decided to restore normal traffic from February 10 through the winding road connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad.
The road, with nine hairpin bends, which has been the main passage for goods-laden lorries from Karnataka to Kerala through Wayanad, had remained closed to heavy vehicles since January 16 for renovation. Only smaller vehicles were being allowed through the Ghat road to facilitate its repair.
Long distance passengers had to switch over to smaller buses specially deployed by the KSRTC to travel by the Ghat section during this period. The ban on container lorries is being continued in line with suggestions put forward at an all-party meeting held at conference hall of Collectorate on Tuesday. The ban applies to container lorries that are more than 260 cm in width and more than 18.5 metres in length. Torus trucks are also being banned since these are found to be loaded with goods often weighing more than 25 tonnes.
Speakers at the meeting suggested that container lorries use Bangalore-Coimbatore-Palakkad route instead of the Ghat road to enter Kerala. There was also a demand for acquisition of private land for widening of the Ghat road up to its fifth hairpin bend without waiting for Forest Department's clearance for the work.

I don't understand why land is filled at that much height there. One good effect is new building won't come close to it. A commercial street we usual see in along Kerala roads will never develop along such a highway. A good example is Valapattanam-Puthiyatheru section in NH-17 near Kannur. While new buildings are coming all the way along the highway that portion got only one Chevrolet showroom in past 20 years.

one more : take the same right turn but reach puthanathani just 5-10 KM after Kottakal.. that will be perfect . but road is narrow.

Once there is heavy traffic the road will be widened.
One more thing is that Edarikode is going to be bypassed through Kottakkal-Edarikode bypass. If you want to avoid toll you have to use the dangerous curve before Edarikode. Similarly the dangerous Vattappara curve will be bypassed through Valancheri bypass. No idea to worry about the toll there any way.

Isn't there space to built 4 lane flyover for Mavoor Road?
Aslesh February 15th, 2012, 07:42 AM Not a bad idea as it won't take much space like clover leaf junction. If this works then we can have similar junctions in many places in Kerala. Only problem is it may not look great. The narrow bridge on the top and a four lane bridge below will look like അലുവയും മീന്*കറിയും. A grade separator at that place is mentioned in NHDP project report.

See the below pic malayaali. there is enough space for a 4 lane flyover on one side of the junction , the other side is a bit conjested but , the proposal is to end the fly over @ pottamal which has more than 30 m width which is more than enough .so they should consider building a 4 lane flyover.

Bivin February 15th, 2012, 09:24 PM [B]If Everything goes fine Thondayad Junction will be one unique type in the entire state..
proposal is for a Two Tier flyover across each other..
One at a 15 mt height on Mavoor Road and having 1.5 KM length and the other one at 7 mt height across bypass which will have a KM length..
The survey and all for the mavoor road one is over and money is already allocated, the flyover across bypass should be worked out by NHAI...
Is 8 meter clearance good enough for big containers and trucks transporting cars and bikes? As this is is designed and engineered by experts, I hope it is enough.
sanjupalayat February 16th, 2012, 12:23 AM Not a bad idea as it won't take much space like clover leaf junction. If this works then we can have similar junctions in many places in Kerala. Only problem is it may not look great. The narrow bridge on the top and a four lane bridge below will look like അലുവയും മീന്*കറിയും. A grade separator at that place is mentioned in NHDP project report.
I dont think that the flyover over bypass (the one which is 7 m above the bypass)will be of four lanes, where in the report you read that?

The Kothi Bridge without approach Road for 24 years on one end of the city
The Calicut Byepass conceptualised in 1980's almost complete without the most crucial TWO bridges at the other end of city.
This project envisaged construction of a major bridge over Korapuzha river with a length of 385 metres and one minor bridge over Purakkatteri river with a length of 150 metres. The total construction costs of the bridges would come to Rs.80 crore, according to current estimates.

No, its not intentional for sure, when the land was acquired for bypass several years ago it was really straight, but after that due to the pressure from certain influential people alignment was redrawn several times to suit their interest, it mainly happened in the Thndayad-Pooladikunnu section, i know it because i am from chevarambalam which is very close to bypass. PPJ February 25th, 2012, 03:50 AM 64km of Kozhikode roads to be dug up
KOZHIKODE: Brace for a heavy traffic jams for a long time to come. The multi-crore sewerage project has taken off and authorities are now planning to dig up 64km of city roads to lay the pipeline. Traffic officials are already perturbed over the certainity that traffic in city will go haywire.
Under the project, pipelines will be laid from Kallayi in the south of the city to Puthiyangadi and Kundaparamba in the north and Canoli Canal in the west and railway in the east.
The period set for the completion of the work is two years. However, according to officials, the project is unlikely to be completed in this period.
The roads, including national highways and state roads, which pass through the city, will be dug up. Officials say traffic should be banned completely on the roads and diverted through other roads. The officer said many of the roads will have to be closed for months.
The diversion of vehicles is likely to cause recurrent traffic jams in the city as most of the roads are already congested, according to a senior traffic police official. The official expressed apprehension that the issue will be at its worst when the major roads in the city will be closed as traffic will have to be diverted through pocket roads.
The work of the sewerage project started recently from Puthiyara. The movement of vehicles through the Puthiyara Road has been diverted through the Sabha Road till the completion of work, which is expected to take months.
Officials said the sewerage project is a necessary for the development of the city and the public should follow the direction of traffic police in order to minimize snarls.

Irshad February 26th, 2012, 01:32 PM The City Road Improvement Project (CRIP) in Thiruvananthapuram will be emulated by the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) for road development in major cities and towns in the State such as Kochi, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kannur.
The demand from people in these places and elected representatives and the success in developing 42.397 km of roads in the capital city have led the KRFB to adopt the Thiruvananthapuram model for the six places, a KRFB official told The Hindu .
Improvements would be made in the projects based on the experiences in the capital city, he said.
The decision comes at a time when the last phase of CRIP is under way in the city and the way in which the roads have been developed and maintained by Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd. (TRDCL), the concessionaire of CRIP, has been appreciated, despite the delay owing to a host of problems, including land acquisition.
Consultants will be employed this month for expediting the work, and they will have to submit their reports to the KRFB. It has been decided to take up only 40 to 50 km of roads in Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kannur for development as part of the strategy to limit the project to Rs.1,250 crore. The consortiums that come forward will also find it easy if the projects are limited to under 50 km for each city and under Rs.1,500 crore. It is estimated that one km of road development on the lines of that in Thiruvananthapuram will cost Rs.2.5 crore.
Roads up to 69.14 km have been identified for the Cochi City Road Improvement Project (CCRIP), and 19 roads are to be taken up by the KRFB. Under the Kozhikode City Road Improvement Project (KCRIP), road development will be taken up in three phases. In the first phase, 30.55 km of roads will be developed, 27.15 km in the second phase, and 13.3 km in the final phase. The road corridors for both Kochi and Kozhikode have been identified.
Parking problems that had not been addressed in the capital city even after CRIP was implemented and the land use problem would be addressed when projects were prepared for these cities, the KRFB official said. A minimum of seven months planning would be needed for the consultants to come up with detailed drawings and technical survey reports.
Consultants to be employed this month

Out of this, Stadium-Puthiyara, Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu and Pushpa jn-Mankavu are the most important ones. Instead of Karaparamba-Kaluthankadavu, it would have been better if they go for the 4 laning of Arayidathupalam-Meenchanda section of Mini Bypass which suffocates during peak hours. Pushpa jn-Meechanda/beypore must also get preference, i guess land acquisition must be the problem there. If you check the land cleared for bypass in the old wikimapia map (http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=11.287255&lon=75.801158&z=15&l=0&m=s), You can see, It is amazingly straight from Malapparamba to Vengalam ( except two bends in Vengeri and Pooladikkunnu jns.)
So I think they made it intentionally for the reason mentioned by you.

So I think they made it intentionally for the reason mentioned by you.
The presence of horizontal curve imparts centrifugal force which is a reactive force acting outward on a vehicle negotiating it. On a curved road, this force tends to cause the vehicle to overrun or to slide outward from the centre of road curvature.
The centrifugal force has two effects:
A tendency to overturn the vehicle about the outer wheels and a tendency for transverse skidding.
When a vehicle negotiates a horizontal curve, the rear wheels follow a path of shorter radius than the front wheels . This phenomenon is called offtracking, and has the effect of increasing the effective width of a road space required by the vehicle. Therefore,to provide the same clearance between vehicles traveling in opposite direction on curved roads as is provided on straight sections, there must be extra width of carriageway available.
This is from IRC website. Its sad that this bends is a death trap for motorists

dinakar March 5th, 2012, 04:15 PM Why both parks required flyover ?
It will require two different roads to the two parks if they are building a normal road and it can not be that wide because it requires more land + both the parks are at an elevated area and the road will look like a Sine wave......
the flyover will solve all these as it just requires one entrance from the bypass and will get a beautiful wide road at much lesser land acqusiion.
The only place i have seen the render of this flyover is a HORDING near to karipur airport, , it looks awesome ( just like the hanging bridge in bangalore ).

Quite unlikely, you can see a dip in the road elevation here. A good visibilty of the approaching vehicles is possible by this.
the parallel road ( OLD SH ) that runs along side byepass still has a dangerous curve and a steep descend. The byepass infact has rectified this.

It is more realistic than the old one. we cant imagine a toll road with at least 30m wide through coastal area. land acquisition will be major problem. we have to realize from Kothi Bridge approach road issue. i think with little land acquisition we can make easy 20m wide road on this route which can be used as parallel to toll mounted NH-66. most part ovf the existing road is more than 20m width only parappanangadi, Tanur town area in malappuram and kothi bridge to beypure is required land acquisition.

K@PP!R!S April 16th, 2012, 08:53 AM Guys what happened to the widening of Eranhipalam - Karaparambu road? When I visited Calicut 2 days ago, I saw that the demolition of buildings has been stopped. Also saw a flex board in front of a shop saying "adhikaarikal paryaapthamaya paaridoshikam tharaathathinaal polichumaatal avasaanippikyuka.."
Saw that the buildings has been demolished between Karaparambu and Ashirwad Lawns.
Also saw Stadium - Puthiyara road. Not much development there also. :bash:

Irshad June 7th, 2012, 07:00 PM 6.86-km Pooladikunnu-Malaparamba road
: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the second phase of the Pooladikunnu-Malaparamba bypass road at the Malaparamba junction on Thursday evening. Minister for Public works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju will preside over the function.
The new bypass road is part of the Kozhikode bypass project aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Kozhikode city. The initial phases of the project were completed between 1999 and 2008.
The Union Ministry of Surface Transport had allocated Rs.32.62 crore for the construction of the 6.86-km road, the work for which was started in May 2009.
The road consists of three underpasses and 24 culverts. The underpasses are at Malaparamba- Karaparamba road, Kannadikkal- Thadambattuthazham road and Krishnan Nair road. Traffic signals have been installed at Malaparamba and Vengeri junctions.
Vehicles coming from Idimuzhikkal- Pooladikunnu road on the National Highway 66 bypass can now reach Thiruvangoor through Atholi Kuniyil.
But optimum usage of the bypass will be possible only after the construction of the 5.10 km stretch from Pooladikunnu to Vengalam.
The works on the remaining part of the bypass, including bridges at Purakkattiri and Korappuzha, will cost Rs. 80 crore, the approval for which is awaited from the Union Ministry of Surface Transport.
However, questions have been raised in various quarters over the effectiveness of the Pooladikunnu-Malaparamba bypass road without the completion of the remaining sections.
In a letter submitted to the Chief Minister, Elathur MLA A.K. Saseendran said the opening of this road would create traffic congestion instead of easing it.
Two-lane road
Also, only a two-lane road was constructed although land was acquired with a width of 45 metres.
According to Mr. Saseendran, vehicles from the new bypass will have to pass through the State Highway, leading to traffic snarls. The raising of the Pooladikunnu-Malaparamba road by about 3 metres for the bypass work has caused difficulties for people living in the locality, he added.

RBDCK granted project facilitator status
The first phase of the development of 30 km of roads in Kozhikode into world-class standards under the City Road Improvement Project to be supervised by the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) functioning under the Public Works Department will be completed in two years.
As a first step to road development, the KRFB and the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala (RBDCK) signed an agreement on Wednesday here in the presence of Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju granting the project facilitator status to the RBDCK. Chief Operating Officer (COO) P. C. Harikesh and Managing Director of RBDCK A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish exchanged the agreement in the presence of Principal Secretary, Public Works, P.H. Kurien.
In the first phase of the project, development of six corridors will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 400 crore. In the second phase of CRIP, another six corridors will be taken up.
The shifting of the utilities will be taken up after the land acquisition is completed in July, according to Mr. Hanish.
The RBDCK has already started a unit in Kozhikode and will soon take steps to expedite the works.
The KRFB COO said taking into account the experience of the 42 km road development under CRIP in Thiruvananthapuram, they have included the multi-level parking and bus bays under the project being conceived for Kozhikode.

K@PP!R!S July 17th, 2012, 10:43 AM An attempt to conduct a survey as part of widening NH 17 was foiled by the action committee resisting the acquisition of land, on Monday.
A committee spokesmen said the survey team consisting of National Highways and Revenue Department officials, including Revenue Divisional Officer K. Rajan and Tashildar T. Jithin Kumar, were unable to conduct the survey.
The protesters said the survey was being held ahead of a meeting to be convened shortly by the District Collector at the behest of the Chief Minister.
The protesters, led by action committee office-bearers A.T. Mahesh, C. Balagopal, and Abu Thikkodi, were arrested by the police and release later.
The protesters said they were not opposed to road widening but wanted it restricted to 30 metres. They also sought steps to ensure proper rehabilitation of those who would be displaced. The publication of the full details of the road development plan was also essential, the spokesman said.

dinakar July 30th, 2012, 07:51 AM Survey to widen road for monorail pillars begins
mananchira -meenchanda 24 metre 4 lane wide road is one of the oldest proposed work in the city, atlast it took a monorail proposal to go ahead with this work..
Once this and the proposed mananchira- vellimadukunnu stretch also is completed , then it will be the longest stretch of 4 lane road inside city, almost from one end of city to another end (14 odd KM)
KOZHIKODE: Laying the groundwork for the commencement of works of the monorail project in September, the Kerala Road Fund Board has started the social impact survey for the widening of the Mananchira- Meenchanda Road. The study will ascertain the number of shops and businesses that will be affected during the widening of the road to 24 metres.
Hundreds of shops line up the 6km-long stretch of NH 66, which traverses through the central business area of Palayam and winds its way through Pushpa Junction, Kallayi, Panniyankara, Vattakkinar and Meenchanda.
The widening of the road is vital for the monorail project as the road is less than 15m wide making it difficult to accommodate the pillar for the elevated monorail, which will come up in the centre of the road. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said that they expect the monorail project to get the final approval in the next cabinet meeting. The detailed project report of the monorail was presented before the chief minister on June 19 and the project has been waiting for the formal cabinet nod to commence its activities.
They said that the land acquisition for road widening is not likely to be a challenge as there has been a freeze in construction in the 24 metre area earmarked for the NH widening during the last 18 years. The DMRC has also proposed to the government that it is ready to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the road widening within four months.
DMRC has set the target of September 2015 for the final commissioning of the Rs 1,991-crore Kozhikode monorail project. The 14km rail from Medical College to Meenchanda has 15 stops in between. The entire alignment is elevated, carried on single pillars generally along the median of the road. The pillars will take up around 2m in the median necessitating widening of narrow roads on the stretch.
PPJ July 30th, 2012, 10:56 AM how about beach road stretch connected to meenchanda. Should be around 20 kms.

passionfruit12 August 4th, 2012, 08:18 AM With the traders' protest against the government move to acquire land to widen NH 66, the people's representatives and social organizations are planning to sit together to plan an alternative — an elevated highway — on August 8. The meeting will be attended by Vadakara MP Mullappally Ramachandran and C K Nanu, MLA.
Meanwhile, the traders have alleged that the BOT road would ultimately be detrimental to commuters and people who surrender their land.
They also say the 45m-wide road will divide the town into two. Prakash Kumaran P, chairman of Building and Land Owners Forum, said the traders have already given their land for widening works to make the road 30m-wide.
"The fresh move will affect more than 500 traders in town and the project will also adversely affect the smooth traffic flow here," he said.
They alleged that the land mafia is behind the campaign in support of BOT road project. "The campaign by a group of people who support the project for the compensation package announced by advisory committee appointed by the chief minister is baseless," Prakash said.
"Inadequate compensation and the lack of a proper rehabilitation package are responsible for people unwilling to surrender their land for road development projects," said Pradeep Chombala, a member of NH action committee.
He said the elevated highway will resolve the issues related to the widening of highways and traffic congestion in the town.

K@PP!R!S September 6th, 2012, 04:27 PM Eranjipalam-Karaparambu minibypass, is it going to be 4 lanes?
I doubt sanjuetta.. coz I think the width at which the land has been acquired is not enough for a 4 lane traffic.. After constructing a footpath on that side what is left afterall.. And even if they make it 4 lane still it will be too narrow when the traffic in that route is considered.. I wish they had more land in hand to widen..
K@PP!R!S September 7th, 2012, 07:13 AM Minister for Public Works V.K. Ibrahim Kunju said here on Thursday that Rs.40 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of a rail overbridge at Panniyankara in the city.
He said the State government had taken necessary steps to sign an agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for construction activities. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the renovation work of the V.K. Krishna Menon road near Kallayi railway station.
Mr. Kunju said a sum of Rs. 40 crore had been allotted for development of roads in the city.
The projects envisaged would be completed in a time-bound manner, he said.

K@PP!R!S September 7th, 2012, 07:18 AM KOZHIKODE: The city road improvement project would start rolling next March, Dr M K Muneer, minister for social welfare and panchayats, who chaired the review meeting of the ambitious Rs 401 crore project at the collectorate, said here on Thursday.
He said the project, which will upgrade seven major city roads to international standards, had been accorded top priority.
"The government is throwing its entire weight behind the project. Land acquisition has to be completed on time and hence the acquisition team will be provided more officials, including surveyors and clerical staff. We have directed revenue officials to complete the process within the deadline," he said.
Providing an update on the status of the work undertaken on the seven roads, Muneer said land had been acquired for the 4.7km Karaparamba-Kalluthankadavu Road, the 2.7km Vellimadukunnu-Kovoor Road and the 600-metre Stadium-Puthiyara Road and handed over to the PWD.
Acquisition for one-third of the 3.38km Gandhi Road-Mini Bypass has also been completed. The rest will be completed before September 30. The land for the expansion of the 8.44km Panathuthazham-CWRDM Road would be acquired by November 30, the minister added.
Administrative sanction has been given for the 2.34km Pushpa Junction-Mankavu Road and land for it will be acquired through negotiated purchase within two months.
Authorities have set February 2013 as the deadline for completing the land acquisition for the 8.4km Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road.
The minister said the road works would be tendered as a single package. A monitoring committee comprising the minister, A Pradeep Kumar MLA and corporation authorities will monitor the progress of the work once every month.
ROB at Alakapuri
Meanwhile, the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDC) has prepared the design and estimate for the railway over-bridge on the P T Usha Road to be built at a cost of Rs 32 crore.
RBDC managing director Muhammed Haneesh presented the design of the ROB to corporation deputy mayor P T Abdul Latheef at the review meeting. The land acquisition for the ROB will cost Rs 14 crore. RBDC had prepared the design as directed by a five-member committee appointed by chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Sanjuettaa, the Land acquired will make the 2 way traffic easy. Even a divider separated road may be tight . My thoughts is to take off the Footpath that borders the Canoly Canal and free-up more space.
Its dangerous for pedestrians to use that side of Footpath.

PPJ October 15th, 2012, 01:43 PM 24x7 one-way traffic rule to be introduced in Kozhikode (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kozhikode/24x7-one-way-traffic-rule-to-be-introduced-in-Kozhikode/articleshow/16776801.cms)
KOZHIKODE: The city will soon have a round-the-clock one-way traffic rule. This is expected to help prevent the frequent accidents and traffic congestions that occur now. The 24x7 one-way traffic rule will come into force in and around Mananchira in the initial phase.
A proposal in this regard was presented at the road safety meeting of police and regional transport officials held recently. The decision was taken after observing that people weren't following the rule after 8pm resulting in frequent accidents in Mananchira where five roads meet.
Though there is a one-way traffic rule in place at SM Street, State Bank Junction, Mavoor Junction, Jail Road and from Manorama Junction to East Nadakavu, at many of these places it is not being followed after 8pm.
"We will introduce the system at Mananchira in the initial phase. A decision on this will be taken at the next meeting of the regional transport officer," said district police chief G Sparjankumar. "We are also considering a proposal to remove the old signboards in the city," he said.
The system will be extended to other places after ascertaining the opinion of the public and experts in the field. "We are not in a position to reveal the names of the roads where the 24x7 one-way traffic rule will be introduced. A decision will be taken only after obtaining the opinions of the public, traffic police officials and experts," said Sparjankumar.
K@PP!R!S October 21st, 2012, 06:27 AM KOZHIKODE: Putting an end to the woes of the motorists on Kozhikode-Kannur highway, the public work department's national highway division has decided to renovate three major road over bridges (ROBs) on NH 66, which are in a dilapidated condition.
The works on ROBs at Vengalam and Vengali will start on October 29 and the work at ROB at Chengottukavu on the highway would be carried out later. The authorities are planning to complete the works on the two bridges within one month and after that the works of the Chengottukavu ROB will begin.
The journey through the ROBs was a nightmarish experience for the drivers as well the passengers in this route. Social and political organizations including Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) were on warpath against the indefinite delay of the renovation works on the bridges. The protesters had alleged that the unscientific construction of ROBs resulted in the formation of huge gaps between the joints of the spans of ROBs, affecting the smooth ride through the bridges.
Sources at the PWD NH section, Kozhikode, said the bridges would be renovated in the line of works carried out on Korappuzha Bridge two years ago. If needed, the construction joints of the bridges would be renovated and the side barriers would be reconstructed.
The repair works on spans of the bridges would be completed in a time bound manner, said the sources, adding that the approach roads of the bridges also would be renovated. "The height of the approach roads of the bridges would be raised and the roads would be strengthened by granular sub base (GSB) and bitumen macadem bitumen concrete ( BMBC) processes," he said. The total estimated cost of the renovation works of three bridges is Rs 3.18 crore. The work of the Chengotukavu bridges would be held under the super vision of Vatakara section of NH wing of PWD.
The traffic through the Vengali and Vengalam ROBs will be blocked from Saturday onwards and the traffic through Kozhikode-Kannur road will be diverted through Pavangad-Atholi-Thiruvangoor road. The traffic diversion during the works at Chengottukavu Bridge will be announced later. The works were scheduled to start on last Friday, but was postponed considering the Pooja holidays.

Dinakar: Is this is opposite side of the canal...I mean if you are in front of passport office or megamart show room, you can see another road parallel to by pass on other side of the canal..

Thanks Dinakar....After seeing this photo I was thinking about commercial potential of that road...even though it is fully occupied by houses,i think if some builders build a mall or a good shopping complex with enough parking space,it will be a good hit....

Anand 1234 November 26th, 2012, 03:32 AM As you approach Eranjippaalam junction from Civil Station, there's a road on the left hand side just before the junction. Apparently this is the same road. This was being used for repairing vehicles. Most of the stretch runs parallel to Mini Byepass on the other side of the canal.
