View Full Version : Kitengela Glass.
Kenguy January 6th, 2012, 06:32 PM I love art. I just wanted to showcase the glass pieces that come from this place. :)
Kitengela Glass was established in 1979, when German artist and entrepreneur Nani Croze started the stained glass studio on the outskirts of the Kenyan capital, which has evolved over the last thirty years into a group of studios, all accomplished in their respective skills, including stained glass, glass blowing, dalle de verre, fusing, slumping, mosaic, wrought iron, ferro-cement sculpture, pottery, woodwork and beading.
The studios are located opposite the Nairobi National Park, at the end of a rough road. Despite this, the constant stream of visitors from all over the world never stops. The magical ambience of the place is peppered with sculptures, animals and secret mosaic pathways which lead to niches of busy artisans all transforming recycled glass and scraps of other materials into beautiful artworks, jewellery and home ware.

xJamaax January 6th, 2012, 10:40 PM ^^ Dont you think there is a problem with the photo?I mean, there should have been typical Kenyans in it and everything Kenyan.;)
Mkenyasili January 7th, 2012, 12:05 AM They are absolutely beautiful Kenguy I must go ckeck them out nxt time am home.
There is nothing wrong with them Jamaax :ohno: you don't know what inpired the artist. Art knows no skin color or race.
xJamaax January 9th, 2012, 01:32 AM I think you are right Mkenya, I saw an African-inspired structured over here though it was designed by someone living in the country.

Mkenyasili January 11th, 2012, 09:04 PM ^^ How were you able to tell that they were not Kenyan? There you go, if they were black you wouldn't call it "not typical Kenyan" don't try to be smart with me matter of fact those people might be Kenyan cuz we have white Kenyans too. Let's stop this and enjoy the gorgeous pieces
PS: You are doing a good job Kenguy they are amazing
xJamaax January 12th, 2012, 12:14 AM ^^ If let's say they were black and wore Nigerian traditional outfits, I wouldnt describe them as "typical Kenyans" . So this means what I say is not related to race. An African American for example is not a typical Kenyan and you can easily pick him out from the crowd with the display of non-Kenyan dress code and mannerism.

Pray, what is this kenyan dress code and mannerism?
@Ken, beautiful pictures, I will definitely check this place out.
xJamaax January 12th, 2012, 09:18 PM Pray, what is this kenyan dress code and mannerism?
@Ken, beautiful pictures, I will definitely check this place out.A typical Nairobian for example speaks sheng, a typical Coasterian speaks swahili with a given accent. Now, many Nigerians cant do these neither can most African Americans be able to do it. So this is part of mannerism that is exclusive to typical inhabitants of Kenya or typical Kenyans.
I hope you get my point, there is no relation with race.

How can you bring in race and typical mannerisms in a thread related to glass?
xJamaax January 12th, 2012, 10:09 PM
How can you bring in race and typical mannerisms in a thread related to glass? You know like the way people are fond of accusing me of being a radical?I said something and someone found it offensive and so I had to explain it how there is nothing wrong with what I said.
It's normal to have off-topic stuff chipping in most discussions.;)

Going by your description above, I am not a typical Kenyan/nairobian when it comes to mannerism. And what was the typical dress code again? How can you paint 40 million people with the same brush?

But you probably speak Kenyan English/Swahili that is still typically Kenyan. If not then you dont belong to the people considered typical Kenyans and that may not be a bit good.
I'm talking of the majority as it's impossible to have everyone falling into the same description.
