An ad appeared in Straits Times today.

Sing Investment & Finance would be redeveloping its building at 96 Robinson Road.

redeveloping as in tearing down and rebuilding or refacading?

and what does the SIF Building look like now?

I thought redevelopment usually meant tearing down the building. When its refacading I thought its usually called ''Additions & Alterations'' or ''Refurbishment''. or ''upgrading''. So I assume it means ''bye bye SIF''.

I wouldnt mind if it means tearing an ugly thing down to make way for something better.

Or maybe it could mean they are transforming the office space for residential use

It's the short building. The tall one is GMG Building.

Good riddance! :D

But for only 2 years, how much work can they do?

OMB's construction was very fast, so was 1 George!

Hurray! What they gonna do with it?

redstone
November 8th, 2004, 05:23 AM
No news of the new building yet.

Hope they build something taller or shorter than its neighbours, or else a neat, row of towers the same height doesn't look so good.

November 8th, 2004, 07:23 AM
Are they going to redevelop the adjacent plot of land as well?

Passed by SIF today.
Looks empty, but no action. The building is still there...

Can you see the white panelling just behind the bus ?
This is SIF. I am quite sure the work has started, there was light inside, and I could see ladders through the windows. I believe they have started removing the cell panelling and things like that.

RafflesCity
January 11th, 2005, 10:46 AM
is it the red building?

Pengui
January 11th, 2005, 10:55 AM
It's actually the short one between the red one and the white one.

RafflesCity
January 11th, 2005, 10:58 AM
thats ultra short!

hope they come up with something distinctive there

They're now demolishing the building, it seems. It is all wrapped up with antidust nets.

Smaller buildings in the CBD should be converted into entertainment areas, eg cafes, shops, etc in order to enliven up the area, turning it into a more vibrant innercity centre similar to those in HK and NYC. Such redevelopment would also herald exterior facade improvements, leading to a better looking CBD. (from the inside)

Old SIF is gone... Say goodbye when you still can... The print of the demolished building can still be seen on the walls of its neighbours.

A sign has been put with a simplish drawing of the future SIF building... SIF Building @ 96 Robertson Road... Yet another @ ^^
The sign doesn't say much on the new design, but it looks rather plain and short (possibly 10 storeys ?)

No, this one is at 112 Robinson, it's just the second building west of SIF (96 Robinson Road), actually. You can see it on some of the pics of the first page.

And OUB Building on another side is being extensively modified too. Only the core left now.
