To be a premier educational institution providing quality education, training and technological services that is accessible and relevant to all in support of regional and national development.
To turn out competent graduates imbued with desirable values acquired through a quality management system of instruction, research, community involvement and the use of information technologies.
On October 12, 1948, Engr. Arturo Eustaquio Sr. founded the Zamboanga Arturo Eustaquio Colleges. He was passionately driven by the dream of a school that embodies the ideals and aspirations of the youth, a school for everybody regardless of social standing, culture, religion, and political affiliation.
Inspired by his own life story as a once struggling UP scholar, he dreamt of building better lives through hard work and education.
The location of ZAEC in the heart of the culturally diverse city of Zamboanga makes the institution a focal point for peaceful coexistence, caring culture, and scholarship growth for a multi-ethnic student body.
Today, ZAEC gears up for greater heights and continues to strive for excellence as it lives up to its motto:
"Education for Service and for Everyone"

The Father Saturnino Urios University is a Catholic private university run by the Diocese of Butuan in Butuan City,
Philippines.
In 1901, the Butuan Parochial School was founded by Fr. Saturnino Urios, S.J. and opened its doors to welcome the first pupils. A low building made of bricks adjacent to the old church was built to house the first pupils who trickled in slowly. Jose Buxo, S.J. was believed responsible for the government recognition of the parochial school. In 1935, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC - Dutch Congregation) took over the missionary work from the Jesuits. In 1939, the high school was opened.
In 1990, two concrete buildings were constructed in the main campus. The four-story building is where the Engineering and Technology and Nursing classes are held and the two-story faculty center and chapel. A four-story concrete building was constructed in 1997. This is occupied by the high school during the day and the college in the evening. It has 32 classrooms and 15 spaces for laboratories, library and offices. Adjacent to it is a gymnasium, which can accommodate 5,000 to 6,000 persons. Urios College was born small. From its very modest beginnings, the Butuan Parochial School has grown through the years.
From the time she turned out her first high school graduates in 1947 and first college graduates in 1955, Urios College is considered one of the leading institutions in Northern Mindanao. Sprawling along streets of J.C. Aquino (formerly Zamora St.), San Francisco, R. D. Calo and Padre Burgos. It boosts of quality education and Christian formation with complete facilities and helps meet the manpower demand of the Northern Mindanao Region. With the creation of the Caraga Region, Urios College faces more challenge being the only catholic academic institution situated in the city of Butuan, which is the administrative seat of the region.

Cor Jesu College (CJC) is a Catholic educational institution that adheres to the highest educational standards of learning and practices. It is guided by the teachings of the Church and Charism of its founders. Administered by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, its roots trace back to June of 1959, when Father Maurice Leville, P.M.E. parish priest of Digos and on invitation of the late Bishop Clovis Thibault, P.M.E., three Brothers of the Sacred Heart namely: Bro. Jean Paul "Elric" Beaudet, S.C., Bro. Clement Tranchemontagne, S.C., and Bro. Guillaume McCabe, S.C. took over the management of the 220 boys of the Holy Cross Academy of Digos under the administration of the Religious of the Virgin Mary Sisters (RVM). In their administration of the then "Boy's Department", the Brothers had six lay collaborators: Mr. Rosalio Deloria, Mr. Diodado Ypil, Mr. Teodosio Geyrozaga, Mr. Pedro Soriano, Mr. Rogelio Magdayao, and Mr. Alfredo Barrera. After 46 years, in the young metropolis of Digos, Cor Jesu College's obscure walls of the past paved way for concrete edifices, now occupying 20 hectares of land. Its dynamic linkages with non-government institutions and government agencies enable it to serve the country in various fields of human endeavor as the school strives to fulfill its vision, mission, and goals.

AMA Computer University (AMACU) is a university located in Project 8, Quezon City, Philippines. It focuses mainly on electronic, information, and communication technologies. It is one of the brands of the AMA Education Group. It follows a trimestral calendar where a typical four year collegiate education program under a semestral calendar is completed in only 3 years and 3 months.
AMA Computer College, branches and sister schools
University Entrance gate in Quezon CityAMA Computer College came into existence in June 1981. It extended its services through a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. With only a handful of students in its first year of operation, the AMACC student population rose dramatically from 600 in 1983 to 2,000 in 1985 in its first official campus in Makati City. Shortly after, it established its main campus in Quezon City. Two provincial campuses were then founded in Cebu and Davao City.
With the passage of the Philippine Higher Education Act of 1994, privately controlled educational institutions' academic fees were deregulated. AMA solved the problem of low student population by embarking on an aggressive marketing, advertising and information campaign. With this type of strategy, profit-oriented schools started to grow.
The emergence of AMACC also led to the birth of AMA Computer Learning Center (ACLC) in 1986 and AMA Telecommunication & Electronic Learning Center in 1996. The former engages in offering short-course programs for professionals and two-year technical/vocational courses for those who wish to acquire employment skills. The latter is the one of the first schools in the Philippines to concentrate on telecommunication, electronics, and related technologies.
AMA has adopted a principle of being the first to do things. It was the first school in the country to fully integrate the Internet into its curriculum. Internet services were provided in all its campuses. Since 1987, all major AMA colleges have been interconnected through a local area network (LAN), which virtually converted them into one nationwide school system. AMA is also the first and only school in the country to have successfully held a teleconference between its high school students and another high school class in Canada in 1994.
In 1991, Aguiluz was able to gain full accreditation for AMA Computer College in the American League of Colleges and Universities (ALOCU), thus, making AMA the first Filipino and non-American school to be so honored. Moreover, AMACC became an official member of the John F. Kennedy Educational Institute in Japan. AMACC is also accredited by the National Computing Centre United Kingdom.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO
The University of Mindanao Main Campus is located at the heart of Davao City. Formerly the Japanese School site, Atty. Guillermo Torres saw the property’s potential as the ideal site for the Mindanao Colleges despite the devastated and idle appearance left by the American bombings in 1944. He determinedly acquired the lot for the noble cause of education for all – the poor and the rich alike – that they may have a better future. Construction of the first one-story building at Bolton, the nucleus of many other constructions that soon followed, started as soon as the property was awarded. All classes from the previously occupied Club Royale were transferred to the Bolton campus in the school year 1947-48. With the expanding population of the school, there was a need to have more space. The Japanese Embassy grounds in front of the Mindanao Colleges eventually became the property of MC in 1964. After several years of hard work and dedication, a permanent and ideal home for Torres’ dream was realized.
At present, the UM Main Campus occupies two adjacent lots namely the Administrative Building and Research Tower Area and the Embassy Area. The Administration Building and Research Tower Area consists of the 4-storey Social Science Building, the 4-storey Technology Building and 7-storey Research Tower Building. The Embassy Area, which took its name from the previous occupancy, is composed of the Gymnasium, College of Accountancy and the College of Criminology Buildings. The Colleges of Business Administration, Law and Graduate Programs are also housed in this campus.
Along with the aim of giving the best leadership education for the students, providing adequate spaces conducive to an educational environment for the students further strengthens this. From a 4-room educational institution, a big university was established. The University of Mindanao, yesterday’s vision is now a realization.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO
G.E.T. 1(GUILLERMO E. TORRES BUILDING 1)
A plan to expand and create a bigger and more conducive place for learning was envisioned by Atty. Guillermo E. Torres. The site for the new campus was bought in 1981 and plans for developing the place campus into a sprawling center for learning took place. In 1983, the College of Engineering and Architecture transferred to the Matina Campus.
Completed in the year 1996 is the GET 1 building of the UM Matina Campus. The GET 1 building, named in honor of Atty. Guillermo E. Torres, follows the concept of formal balance and symmetry. The protractor-shaped building deviates from the usual square building – relevantly symbolizing a common measuring instrument of the colleges housed namely: the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture. This was designed by Arch’t. Digna Claudio of Manila.
GET 1 was inaugurated during the 50th Founding Anniversary of the University. Its columns with distinctly designed capitals – originally colored gold – represent the “golden” celebration. Exposing the columns essentially exhibits the strength, capability and potential of the university which had been ambiguously hidden for several years. Tropical design was also considered as a major factor in the design. Comfort and efficiency were introduced through natural lighting and ventilation. The interior landscaping in the atrium provides a scenic view from the classrooms and enhances a healthy environment.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO
GUILLERMO E. TORRES BUILDING 2
( College of Arts and Science Building)
Completed in the summer of 2003, the GET 2 building was all set for use in the school year 2003-2004 to house the College of Nursing and College of Arts and Sciences. Each college has been equipped with their respective modern laboratories for the students’ simulated practice exercises. The University Auditorium and Conference Room is also located in this building.
The building was designed by the university’s very own Arch’t. Iluminado Quinto, Jr., Arch’t. Manuel De Luna and Arch’t. Jaime Gonzaga. Replicated from GET1 is the exposure of the columns as to express “strength is being exposed”. Aside from this, unity and harmony with GET 1 is intended to be achieved. The two large blocks at the façade serves as contrast to the grid of intersecting exposed columns and beams, further accentuated by the difference of colors.
On the plan, GET 2 building’s main entrance has been located at the left of the center of the building. This particular decision was made because of two basic reasons. The first one is related with the visual identity and distinction between GET 1 and GET 2. GET 1 is symmetrical (formal balance) while GET 2 is asymmetrical. The second reason is rather functional. Immediately to the left of the lobby is the auditorium. The direct connectedness between these two major areas offers great advantage on way finding for guests whose prime destination is the auditorium. Through this, the rest of the building which is mostly classrooms would be left undisturbed. The south-western wing of the building is a double loaded corridor, initially designed to accommodate the laboratory and library facilities.

but we are the only school in Western and Northern Mindanao that is offering Architecture courses..
ay ganun ba? sorry. akala ko kasi WMSU lang ang nag o-offer ng law sa region 9. sorry ulet. =) peace

Mindanao Polytechnic State College, or MPSC, is one of the leading higher education institutions in the Philippines. It offers vertically articulated programs to poor but deserving students. MPSC is strategically located in the fast-growing industrial pace of Northern Mindanao, with its main campus situated in Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, and with satellite campuses in Jasaan, Oroquieta and Panaon.
http://www.mpsc.edu.ph/images/aboutpix.jpg
It is the mission of this College to provide quality, relevant, and trained human resources, and to promote research and extension services, supportive of the Industrialization Act of Northern Mindanao, pursuant to Section 2 of PD 1431; the College Charter as amended by RA 7102.
The Corporate Vision of MPSC, reflected in the Corporate Plan for CY 2002-2005 provides that, "MPSC is the Philippine showcase for a Corporate University in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA)". This implies a business-like orientation in the way that the goods and services of the corporate university are delivered to its clientele while maintaining the primacy of social service as its function in the Philippine society. MPSC's role as a state corporate university shall transcend national and cultural boundaries and will be felt immediately in the BIMP-EAGA.
The Seal of the College
http://www.mpsc.edu.ph/images/logo.jpg
Logo Design created for MPSC by Mr. Eliezer Arnejo
The portions colored red, yellow and blue represent the flag of the Philippines which is hung vertically.
The book and the torch symbolize the education that every student wants to acquire from this College.
The gear represents “Technology” which is considered as the flagship course of this College.
The twenty-four (24) teeth of the gear symbolize the 24-hour service of our College to the community.
The figure 1927 shown inside the book represents the year when MPSC was founded.
The Milestones of MPSC
1927 Pre-Commonwealth Act No. 3377 known as the Vocational Act of 1927 established Misamis Oriental Trade School (MOTS) operating at the elementary level. In 1936, the intermediate program was replaced with the four-year secondary trade program.
1952 Republic Act No. 672 converted MOTS into the Mindanano School of Arts and Trades (MSAT) offering two-year trade technical education. In 1970, Republic Act of 3959 authorized the offering of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education and the Evening Opportunity Programs.
1978 Presidential Decree 1431 converted MSAT to Don Mariano Marcos Memorial Polytechnic State College (DMMMPSC) with the mission "to provide quality relevant and trained human resources and to promote research supportive to the industrialization of Northern Mindanao."
1991 Republic Act No. 7102 renamed DMMMPSC to Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) with the addition of the third function of the college - extension services - in the original mission.
1995 Proposal for Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) was presented to the faculty and staff, students, PTA officials, and the general public. In 2002, Congressman Constantino J. Jaraula of the Lone District of Cagayan de Oro filed House Bill No. 4582 for the conversion of MUST. The House Sub-Committee on Higher Education approved the bill in 2003.

Hahahaha... wait and see nalang tayo... pero may mga on-going activities through-out the year... Like the Verbena de Coro Choral Contest, Concerts ng mga artistas, ah! And The JIG - Jesuit Invitational Games: Parang Sports Meet ng mga Ateneo Varsity (Basketball and Soccer) ... including ang Ateneo de Iloilo nyan... except lang ang Xavier School kasi parehas ang Foundation day nila sa XU...The JIG was organized by XU last few years ago. So, for XU@75, kasali yun sa highlighs... and yes, the Blue Eagles will be there... like last 2006.

It's NOT the buildings that matters most....
It's the quality of the students, e.g.
- frequent 100% board Exam passing :)
- recognised by Universities overseas :)
- NOT a diploma factory college/university. :)
N.B. Almost all "State" Colleges and Universities in Pinas are recognised in AU. :)
ONLY few "Private" colleges and universities in Pinas are recognised in AU. :)

Nothing wrong with those criterias you've posted, that will be an argument for a different time and place, but most definitely not here on SSC. I am just preventing any CvC situations that may arise when we start posting lists and rankings and the bashing ensues. Plus, it's better on the eyes to see beautiful campuses than endless lists of accolades that will not matter in the long run since a school's performance is cyclical, they come and they go. While a campus, especially a campus that's well planned and well kept and maintained will linger longer in the memory of the reader of this thread.

I Agree.
But, we cannot ignore the fact that school building cost is mainly funded from tuition fee and similar earnings.
- to keep up with a nice school buildings you need to increase fees and enrolment
- keep enrolment as high a possible to maximize income....
- lower the standard a bit so that you can kept high enrolment, i.e. don't fail student
- thus, many can complete their degree at a lower standard.
- end result: diploma factory college/university
While state colleges and universities is at the mercy of the gov't funding (buildings and others). At least state colleges and universities doesn't have incentives of doing the above problem.

i am not sure if the hospital will be relocated, it would be hard for them to relocate since, naka establish na sila sa present area nila ngayon, and with the constructions and expansions sa area nila ngayon, parang hindi nila iiwanan ang area, maybe they will just expand sa ibang lugar ng city, pero and iwanan ang present location nila, a big NO for me...
that 5.5 has, is for the school alone, well, we cant avoid na dami tao mag sabi if pati hospital mag relocate kasi DDC started as Davao doctors hospital school of Nursing, pero, school lang talaga ang lot nila sa mintal...i know 5.5 has is big enough.

By the way, na mention na rin lang yung "NOT recognised" na issue dito, I would just like to point out that as far as the Legal Profession is concerned, only four law schools in the Philippines are accredited by the New York State Bar. Meaning, students from these schools need not take additional subjects and are automatically eligible (subjects-wise) to review and take the New York State Bar Exam. These schools are University of the Philippines College of Law, Ateneo de Manila College of Law, San Beda College of Law, and Ateneo de Davao College of Law.

in nursing profession naman, only 3 philippine educational institutions ang recognized by the Australian Nursing Council namely: UP College of Nursing, UST college of Nursing, and Ateneo (im not sure what campus)...graduates from these schools may not undertake a Registration Program for Overseas Qualified Nurse course conducted by the ANC...:), each year ANC evaluates the nursing education in the country and the number of schoools na pasok sa kanila is pa bago2x...but UP is always in the list...

Hosted by Twink Macaraig, “Square Off: The CVC Law Debates” features law school teams, with legal luminaries and incumbent trial court judges as adjudicators.
The episode’s topic covered the classic life and death issue of the legalization of euthanasia in the Philippines with St. Louis University arguing for legalization and Ateneo de Davao University taking the opposite side.
St. Louis University’s first speaker Analyn Avila defined euthanasia as “the intentional act of causing the death of a severely ill and dependent human person for his or her alleged benefit.”
“To provide the proposal for euthanasia is probably the most challenging task for law students. Nonetheless we will take the challenge in the hope that the matter will be squarely given consideration,” Avila said.
Kris Dyan Cayabyab of St. Louis argued that legalizing euthanasia would remove the potential financial burden taken on by families whose relatives are clinically dead but remain hooked up to machines.
“Our reverence for life should not be dependent on this sort of martyrdom that we continually make it difficult for everyone to prolong everything. We lift financial constraints because even the patient would not want to further compromise other family concerns just so a life can be prolonged by science far beyond meaning or sensibility and when it is really impossible to maintain a

rather costly concern such as this,” Cayabyab said.
The winning team from Ateneo de Davao, however, used arguments such as the right to life, possibility of abuse and premature death.
“It [euthanasia] would undermine the physician-patient relationship as it will create fear and distrust as doctors will no longer be seen as healers but also as killers,” said Hanniyah Sevilla of Ateneo de Davao University.
“Do you agree that suicide is not punished in the status quo? Of course I also assume that you know that giving assistance to suicide is punishable because you’re performing an overt act leading to the death of an individual. Isn’t it that pulling the plug is an overt act? Because you are actually using your own hands,” added Christine Ferrer of Ateneo de Davao University.
Adjudicator Atty. Rodel Cruz, Senior Partner of CVC Law, recognized the brilliant exchange between the two universities.
“I think all the debaters tonight deserve our warmest congratulations. They all deserve to be in the final four,” he said.
Adjudicator and former Senate President Frank Drilon was deeply impressed by the debate, saying that the semi-finalists have great potential as the country’s legislators in the future.
“The debates were very substantial. I was in government for 21 years and if you were congressmen, senators, or cabinet members, maybe we would have better legislation and better policie

s coming out of this administration,” he said.
Ateneo de Davao’s Hanniyah Sevilla, first of the three speakers on the negative side, was hailed as best speaker by the adjudicators. Christine Ferrer, also from Ateneo, got the texter’s choice award.
The Ateneo de Davao University is now set to compete in the finals against Arellano University next Wednesday.

BEGINNING...
Founded in 1933 as a high school named Ateneo de Cagayan by Jesuit missionary Fr. James T.G. Hayes S.J., who later became the first bishop/archbishop of Cagayan de Oro, Ateneo de Cagayan has grown steadily through the years. A college department was added in 1938, with course offerings in liberal arts, education and commerce. The Grade School was started in 1940. Ateneo de Cagayan had 614 students when it was forced to close during World War II.
Fr. Edward J. Haggerty S.J., school Rector, who served as a military chaplain during the war years and as Military Vicar for the U.S. Armed Forces from Borneo to Okinawa, wrote in his diary: "in fifteen minutes the American liberator bombers destroyed our labor of 15 years."
POST-WAR RECONSTRUCTION...
From the ruins, postwar reconstruction began immediately under the untiring leadership of Fr. Haggerty and Fr. Andrew Cervini S.J., who succeeded him as Rector, and with the assistance of many benefactors from the U.S. and locally.
The College of Agriculture was started by Fr. William Masterson S.J. in 1953 and the College of Law and the Manresa farm in 1955.
UNIVERSITY STATUS...
In March 1958 the Ateneo de Cagayan received university status and its present name, Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan, in honor of St. Francis Xavier, Jesuit missionary to the Indies and companion of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. Fr. Francisco Araneta S.J., Rector when the Ateneo de Cagayan became a university, explained that the change of name "merely crystallized an old spirit that always had been the soul of all Ateneos, the spirit of learning and service, the spirit of purposeful scholarship."
Today Xavier University is a dynamic academic institution committed to the integral education and formation of the nation's youth, especially in Northern Mindanao. It has a grade school with over 1,500 and a high school with over 1,160 students. There are six undergraduate colleges with a total enrollment close to 9,000 (Arts and Sciences, Education, Commerce, Agriculture, Nursing, and Engineering), a Center for Industrial Technology for professional technician courses, and three professional schools (Law, Medicine and Graduate School), with a total enrollment of about 1219 students. As of SY 2002-03, total university student enrollment stands at about 14,000.
COMMUNITY SERVICE...
The University has been closely involved with the life and growth, concerns and problems of Cagayan de Oro City and Northern Mindanao. The College of Education has provided training to many teachers and administrators of Northern Mindanao schools. The Research Institute of Mindanao Culture (RIMCU) was established in 1957 for research studies on Mindanao culture, especially from the point of view of population and the social sciences.
The Southeast Asia Rural Social Leadership Institute (SEARSOLIN), started in 1963 and, patterned after the Anigoish Movement in Nova Scotia, Canada, trains leaders and organizers from various countires in agriculture extension work and the cooperative.
In 1968 the University inaugurated its Philippine Folklife Museum and Archives. This has since grown into the XU Museum, with a building inaugurated by President Corazon Aquino in July 1986. Fr. Francisco R. Demetrio S.J., himself an alumnus of the Ateneo de Cagayan in its early years, is Museum curator.
The Institute for the Development of Educational Administrators (IDEA), started in 1972 with support from the Ford Foundation and the Fund for Assistance for Private education, is a graduate masteral program for training of school administrators.
Kinaadman, the University journal since 1979, publishes research and scholarly articles, especially centered on Mindanao. Fr. Miguel A. Bernad S.J. is editor.
In support of the growing industrialization of Northern Mindanao, the Center for Industrial Technology was founded in 1983 for technician courses, both short-term and longer-term, in automotive, electrical, electronics, mechanical and refrigeration/ airconditioning technology.
In 1987, the College of Medicine and the Community of German Doctors worked together in answering the medical needs of the poor. In 1989 the hospital building was completed and inaugurated
CAMPUSES...
The University operates on four campuses: the eight-hectare main campus in the heart of Cagayan de Oro City houses all the academic units, except for the Grade School, High School, and the support farms and extension works of the College of Agriculture; the grade school shares another campus with the grade school of Lourdes College; the newly constructed high school campus at Pueblo de Oro; and the 60 hectare Manresa Complex on the way to the airport includes the experimental and demonstration farms and extension works of the College of Agriculture, SEARSOLIN and dormitories donated by the Coconut Producers Federation of the Philippines (COCOFED).
LINKAGES...
The University houses a Regional Science Teaching Center funded by the Department of Science and Technology for the improvement of science and math teaching in elementary and high schools.
Various engineering programs are supported for improvement by the Engineering and Science Education Program of the Department of Science and Technology. It cooperates with the Department of Interior and Local Governments for the training of local government officials.

Mission Statement
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) is a Filipino, Catholic and Jesuit academic community dedicated to the integral development of the person for the needs of Mindanao and the country.
As a University, Xavier pursues truth and excellence in teaching, research and service to communities: it is concerned with contemporary problems; it prepares men and women with competencies, skills and a keen sense of responsibility to their communities.
As a Filipino university, Xavier is committed to the appreciation, preservation and enrichment of the Filipino culture and heritage as well as the welfare and sustainable development of the Filipino people.
As a Catholic university, Xavier fosters in its members a deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ manifested by loyalty to the Church and a life of witness and loving service characterized by a preferential option for the poor.
As a Jesuit university, Xavier acknowledges its historical linkages with the Society of Jesus and is rooted in Ignatian spirituality and an educational tradition of liberal education which today includes technology and the various professions and affirms the importance and necessity of cooperation among Jesuits and the laity in mission. In sum, Xavier University seeks to form men and women of competence, conscience, and commitment in service of the Church and the Filipino people.
In 1958, when the Ateneo de Cagayan became a University with a new name, the Rector, Fr. Francisco Araneta S.J., asked Fr. Miguel A. Bernad S.J. (then of the Ateneo de Manila) to design a new seal for Xavier University. Fr. Bernad's design was submitted for comment to the official heraldy expert of the Church in the Philippines, Archbishop Mariano Madriaga of Lingayen-Dagupan, who approved the design as "perfectly correct with no heraldic error." Avoiding technical terminology, the XU coat-of-arms may be described in layman's language as follows:
The shield is divided into three parts: two upper panels and a lower triangle. The white crescent moon upside-down against a blue field is an adoption of the arms of the castle and family of St. Francis Xavier in Navarre, except that the original red field signifying war has been change to the blue of peace. Blue also represent our lady, patroness of the Philippines and of Xavier University (under the title of the Immaculate Conception).
The eagle, plume and book of St. John the Evangelist against a red field were the personal arms of the late Archbishop James T.G. Hayes S.J. of Cagayan de Oro who had founded the Ateneo de Cagayan in 1933. The wolves-and-pot ( lobos y olla) against a white field represent the family of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus.
Superimposed at the center of the shield is a gold oval with the seal of the Society of Jesus in red. The Jesuit seal consists of the first three letters (IHS) of the name Jesus with a cross and the three nails to recall the passion and death of Jesus.
The shield is placed against a gold field surrounded by two scrolls forming a circle: XAVIER UNIVERSITY and the former name, ATENEO DE CAGAYAN.
A smaller scroll below the shield gives the motto, Veritas Liberabit Vos (The Truth shall make you free). The foundation date of the Ateneo de Cagayan is given above the shield, 1933.
The University Hymn
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XAVIER, ALMA MATER
You have taught us to pay the price
To be men for God and Country,
To prepare for sacrifice.
May we learn to love, may we learn to serve,
And as Christ may we always give
Our Hands in help, our hearts in love,
And our lives that men might live.
XAVIER, ALMA MATER
You have taught us to worship with pride
Our Savior's life and suffering
And the cross on which He died;
Not to fear the nails, not to heed the wounds
But to love through the thorn and pain,
Keep our faith alive in the face of death,
That the world may see our Savior's reign.

cyberwizard November 15th, 2008, 03:00 AM MSU-IIT surpasses UST in 'Frankahan'
abs-cbnNEWS.com | 11/15/2008 8:48 AM
First-time Square Off participants Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) advanced to the next round of ANC's "Frankahan: The Drilon Debates" after overcoming the University of Sto. Tomas (UST).
With the motion agreeing with the abolition of the country's multi-party system, UST laid emphasis on the argument that a two-party setup would extract the best possible candidates to run. UST prime minister Joan Zaldivar stressed that the bi-party system would prove to be more advantageous to the country, given the prevalence of personality politics, lack of party loyalty, and absence of clear and identifiable party ideologies.
Led by the judges' choice for best speaker Mara Nanaman, MSU-IIT aggressively clashed with UST, arguing that a multi-party system would be more feasible as it is more responsive to the country's diversity. The winning team pointed out that UST failed to explain how a two-party system would eliminate the current problems and complaints brought about by the status quo.
Although MSU-IIT didn't give more tangible examples as the judges would have liked, the Government side's lack of responsivess was more heavily penalized.
"We felt that government's responsibility was to prove that the multi-party system in and of itself currently doesn't address the problems properly," Chief Adjudicator Lex Ledesma explained.
"What we were looking for was something stronger from the government side to clarify what they were saying… So [the] winner by split decision is MSU," he added.

Fallibility isn't weird. It doesn't speak about double identity. It simply means the likelihood of making errors. :)

I don't get it. :) Whatever. Anyway, as far as I know, the structure of my sentence was correct. There was a correct usage of the word fallibility. It was a response only to your post... "doubted your own statement?" If it appears that I was mistaken then let it be. I am just being fallible.... That's it. Do you still want to pursue this case to the supreme court? Thank you for your concern. :) Back to the topic please...

michael_ray December 17th, 2008, 02:08 AM Which is better between IIT and Xavier, as a whole? I mean in terms of academic standard
Which one is better as a whole? I'd rather be neutral. I couldn't compare these two great institutions. First, MSU is a state university while XU is a private sectarian school. Second, they have different mission and vision. Third, there are courses in XU that are not found in MSU and the same way around. Fourth, they usually do not belong to the same category in licensure exams (like nursing, XU is in category A while MSU is in category B). And lastly, they have established their own prestige.
What matters most is that these institutions have contributed a lot for the progress in Northern Mindanao, the country, and around the globe.

as far as i know..
the oldest school is Saint Mary's Academy of Dipolog City ( established in 1892)...it is operated by the Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM)
the oldest college is Pilar College of Zamboanga City (established in 1894)..it is also owned by RVM
the oldest university is Western Mindanao State University (established in 1904) and is a government owned university.
but im not sure of this based lang yan sa nalalaman ko..pero you are always welcome to refute it..

Napaka baba naman ng "yardstick" mo para icompare ang dalawang malalaki at importanteng schools ng Northmin.

ai bai, UIC was established in 1905 as a parochial school..it started to offer college courses in 1948..
while Pilar College of Zamboanga was founded on 1894 and started offering college and vocational courses right after its establishment like Bible Study (Historia Sagrada), Christian Doctrine (Catecismo), Christian Manners (Urbanidad Cristiana), Spanish Grammar (Gramatica Espanola), Arithmetic (Arithmetica), Geography (Geographia), and Home Arts, Flower-making, and House-keeping (Labores for girls).

the question should be the oldest school, not the oldest university, right?

junax December 19th, 2008, 06:32 AM i think ang first university in the Philippines is UST... yung USC naman is first school in Asia...
yup i know, una ang UST nakakuha ng university status, while USC naman ang unang school na na establish.
kaya may debate about the USC and UST kasi sa manner ng pagtatanong. IMO magkaiba ang sagot sa tanong na ito na pilit ginagawang isang tanong lang ng iba:
1. the first university - UST, because the "now" USC is not yet a university when UST got its university status in the 1600s.
2. the oldest university - technically dapat UST kung university status ang pag uusapan, pero pwede rin USC kasi university na sya ngayon at oldest school established sya. :)

In other countries, they only make mention of the oldest school. For example, Oxford is known as the oldest academic institution in the English speaking world. But Oxford is a collegiate system. Meaning, it comprises several colleges scattered all over the university town of Oxford in Mid-England.
In the US, Harvard gets the title as the oldest school in the US. But it became a university only after 80 years the College of William & Mary, the 3rd oldest school in the US, became a university.

abs-cbnNEWS.com | 01/09/2009 8:06 PM
The continuation of the Octofinals of ANC's Square Off: Frankahan - The Drilon Debates had Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan and Polytechnic University of the Philippines battling over whether or not casinos are beneficial to society.
On the government side, PUP argued that a Las Vegas-style gambling city - like what the Philippine government has planned for Manila Bay, would help bring in more than $20B of foreign investments, boost tourism, and provide around 300,000 jobs for Filipinos. Moreover, the revenues that could be collected from such an industry would increase government revenues considerably and help fund government projects.
Xavier University countered that the negative effects of having a gambling city in the country would far outweigh the benefits. They argued that casinos promote a lifestyle of indiscriminate spending and undue reliance on luck, which can only lead the Philippines deeper into poverty and debt. They also cited the perils of encouraging gambling as a habit, which could cause individuals to abandon their financial responsibilities.
PUP however pointed out that the opposition was not looking at the bigger picture. They reminded the other team that the Philippine Gaming Corporation is the third largest contributor to the country's revenues, which will help provide services that will trickle down to the deepest part of society. Besides, PUP asserted, casinos cater to the rich, who can well afford to gamble their money away.
Xavier University asserted that casinos accept any client who shows up with money and thus have no safeguards against those who would fritter away their hard-earned savings Though they concede to the benefits casinos may bring, Xavier argued that these casinos bank on the manipulation of people to generate money and, this, at the end of the day is morally wrong.
"It is actually the government's responsibility to promote or generate income in a positive way," says Deputy Leader of the Opposition Jaymee Leonen.
"Banking on the people's gullibility is wrong. There are other ways to increase revenues and employment."
This was essentially the argument that convinced two of the judges to give the win to Xavier University while one judge was adamant that PUP had won.
"This was a split decision. We had our own debate among us judges," Chief Adj Ricky de la Cruz explained. "Though PUP explained the benefits clearly, there was a lack of engagement on the ethical aspect."
Square Off: Frankahan - The Drilon Debates airs every Wednesdays, 8-9pm, with replays every Thursday 1pm, Saturday 1pm and Sunday 2am.

MtApoStandard January 16th, 2009, 06:48 AM CHED gives P1 million to UP Mindanao for student loans
Davao City (16 January) -- The Commission on Higher Education – Region XI (CHED-XI) recently awarded P1Million to UP-Mindanao as part of the CHED SAFE LOAN program. The SAFE LOAN (Student Assistance Fund for Education for Loan) was drawn up by CHED to provide interest-free student loans for 3rd, 4th and 5th year college students enrolled in CHED priority courses, which in UPMin are the courses BA English, BS Applied Mathematics, BS Biology and BS Agri-business Economics.
According to CHED Regional Director Leonida S. Calagui, the SAFE LOAN is targeted towards graduating students, to help financially challenged students finish their college studies, thereby contributing to the stock of high-level manpower in the country.
Students may avail of a one-shot P8, 000.00 loan which must be repaid within 2-5 years after graduation. The loan proceeds may be used for school fees, books, course projects, thesis writing, board and lodging, graduation fees, and other school-related expenses. However, Prof. Miguel Soledad, UPMin Vice Chancellor for Administration, clarified that that this loan program may not be availed of by those who are already enjoying scholarship grants and privileges from government programs.
According to UPMin Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Emma Ruth Bayogan, UPMin has 194 students who may qualify for this loan program. These are broken down into: BA English (38 students), BS Applied Mathematics (51), BS Biology (55) and BS Agri-business Economics (50). (UPMin/PIA XI) [top]

ddc is i guess paascu accredited
The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) is a private, voluntary, non-profit and non-stock corporation which was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines on December 2, 1957. It is a service organization which accredits academic programs which meet commonly accepted standards of quality education.
PAASCU is an accrediting body composed of different private educational institutions that stamp other private schools with a quality standard attained with regard to their programs. In November 1967, the Bureau of Education and Culture (now the Department of Education) officially recognized PAASCU and endorsed its work as an accrediting agency. PAASCU is a member of the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP)

no not really..in the case of public schools, it should be by act of Congress nd approved by the president. In case of Private Schools, they just apply for a university status at CHED, then CHED will evaluate base on the standards to become university..then that's it..
