That's the base only. There is no floor plate around the core on the inner side; the core wall will serve also as the wall of the building. On the outer sides, the walls will be were those metal bars are.

ACICO is the developer. while NIKKO (Hotels) is a brand owned by JAL (Japan Air Lines). I think the JAL group rebranded recently the NIKKO Hotels to simply JAL Hotels.

The glass panels on the SAMA tower are/will be attached to the concrete columns, in this tower they will not (see the gap) so where is the need to waterproof them?

Is it not necessary to even water proof the edges of the floor plates? I mean, that's where the rain would seep in from, at the point where any two glass panels meet? :dunno:

^^ My friend, waterproffing on the concrete pillars is done to protect the concrete and the rebar inside from rust, not to stop rain or water seep in into your apartments. That would be taken care of from the sealing of the curtain wall (glass) panels.

Fantastic looking tower/s. With such close proximity to one another, I just wonder what the quality of the light will be like in between?

I've just got back from dubai and on the sign infront of these towers it says "name: Dimension Towers"

Dimensions (http://www.dimensions-ec.com) are the consultants, while the architects are BRT (http://www.brt.de).

The developer is Kuwait's ACICO (http://www.acico.com.kw), which is constructing them in-house.

One of the towers is a multi purpose offices/residences expected completion is Q4 2008. The other tower Jal Hotel will be completed by the 1st half of 2009. Both towers are owned and developed by ACICO based in Kuwait. ACICO also owns the Jal Fujairah resort and a business park in port saeed in deira. ACICO is short for Aerated Concrete Industries Company and is a publicly traded company listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange and the Dubai stock exchange :)

Last Updated: December 29. 2009 7:53PM UAE / December 29. 2009 3:53PM GMT JAL Hotels expects to begin operating a luxury 471-room hotel in Dubai in April despite the financial problems plaguing its parent company, Japan Airlines (JAL).

JAL Hotels already operates the JAL Fujairah Resort and Spa, which opened in 2007, making it the first Japanese company to manage hotels in the region. The Hotel JAL Tower Dubai, a five-star establishment on Sheikh Zayed Road, is aimed at business travellers.


Both hotels are owned by ACICO International Real Estate Development, a property and development company, which is a subsidiary of Kuwait’s ACICO Industries.

JAL Hotels said its “brand expansion in the UAE and in the region remains prosperous and promising for more openings to come”.

But, JAL Hotels’ parent company has faced a tough time amid a global downturn in travel. JAL, which is Asia’s largest carrier by revenue, has been bailed out four times by the Japanese government.
