Introduction:

This new hospital in western part of Region Midtjylland will cover the area today covered by the five hospital units in "Hospitalsenhed Vest": Herning, Holstebro, Lemvig, Ringkøbing and Tarm.

Location:

The building will be located around 6 km west of central Herning just next to the small village of Gødstrup and Gødstrup Lake. Over time, Herning is expected to "reach" the hospital through growth in the new development of Helstrup. More info futher down. Today there's around 1 km from Gødstrup to Tjørring, which is the part of Hering closest to the hospital site.

Infrastructure:

A few new infrastructure projects are being planned: A New train station right outside the hospital entrance, a new local road extension from Herning to the hospital area and finally a bypass/ringroad solution west of the hospital area. This one could potentially be as a motorway, that depends on the Herning-Holstebro motorway though.

Here a map showing the 3 projects:

http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/dnv/kort2.jpg

The single train track Herning-Holstebro passes the hospital, and Banedanmark are currently planning a new train station just outside the main entrance. The station is expected to be 150 m long and it will have a covered waiting area of 156 m2 with ticket machines. Here how it could end up, it's from the planning material:

"Vesterholmvej" is being extended from Tjørring to the new western bypass and it will also pass right by the hospital. The new road will be around 3 km long and have bikelanes. Construction is exptected to begin in 2013:

Finally the western bypass. It's still very uncertain how this one will end up, it could be anything from a small 2 lane local road to motorway. The later will happen is they decide on a western location around Herning for the planned Herning-Holstebro motorway. Only thing certain seems to be that it should go from West Snejbjerg to North Tjørring somewhere.

Here how a motorway solution could look:

Future development:

Herning Kommune has started the planning of a new 520 ha. mixed use development between the hospital site and Snejbjerg/western Herning. Fully build up the area will include some 1800 homes and around 4000 inhabitants, which is expected to take some 20-30 years. Still early phase of planning.

Nice new thread Mikael.

By the way, any talk about the economy of this new hospital. Odense and Århus allready is short of money, according to the press.

:)

^^ Not really, but this one is also designed to cost 3.15 billion and not like in Aarhus where the original project was much more expensive than the final one.

This one looks massive but i like how the lower parts of the buildings blends in with the surrounding nature so it doesn´t look to massive, 5 big points from me

Now i cant wait to see renders of the new super hospital in Køge that will be almost twice as large as this one (adding 160.000 m2 to the existing 80.000 m2 Køge Sygehus)

But we will not see any cool train station like yours.

^^ I'm a sucker for those dark warm bricks so I really like it too. :-)

Will indeed be interesting to see both the Køge hospital and the other new ones we havne't seen yet (Hillerød and Aalborg). When do you expect a design in Køge?

Not that I think anyone wants to read it, but today the "VVM-redegørelse og miljørapport" was published. The 214 page document can be read here: DNV-Gødstrup - Det Nye Hospital i Vest - VVM-redegørelse og miljørapport (http://www.dnv.rm.dk/files/Hospital/Vest/Administrationen/DNV/Download/Dokumenter/Endelig_VVM_DNV_G%C3%B8dstrup_25jan2012_printQ_inkl.for-og-bagside.pdf)

One thing worth noticing in the report is the height of the tallest building. It looks like it'll be 50 meters which will actually make it the tallest in Herning by a few meters.
