3. Don't criticize other people for not posting pics of one place or another, just post yourself. Now you've started a new thread, maintain it with new pics periodically. There hasn't been a seperate thread for Khulna simply because there aren't that many pics of Khulna out there online, and because it requires a lot of time to go searching the net for pics. Hard to believe, but many of us here do have other commitments - salaries to earn, families to look after, etc. It takes time enough for someone like me to find pictures of Dhaka. Besides which, Dhaka is where I was born and grew up...so of course I am more interested in what happens there. Occasionally, I do look for pictures of other places...but that isn't my duty or that of anyone else.

I do not think anybody is bashing him. Tan just pointed out the obvious that nobody is prevented from posting anything that is of relevance to this forum and that everything is voluntary. If that person feels that Khulna or any other city in Bangladesh is under represented, s/he and anybody/everybody else are most welcome to rectify.

'Implement development projects in Khulna'

Leaders of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) have demanded allocation of adequate fund in the next national budget 2012-13 for implementation of different development projects in Khulna region. They made the demand in a memorandum to the prime minister submitted through deputy commissioner of Khulna on Thursday.

In the memorandum, they also demanded implementation of several developments project, including supply of natural gas through pipelines to south-western part of the country, gearing up of Khulna WASA activities, modernisation of Mongla seaport and Bhomra land port, deep-seaport at Akram point, establishing modern railway station, reopening of all closed jute mills and Khulna Newsprint Mills, Dada Match Factory, shrimp industries and poultry industries, solving water logging in the Khulna city, setting up of IT village, preserving biodiversity of the Sundarbans, installation of a full-fledged TV centre, development of all power generation plants and second submarine cable landing station in Mongla.

They have also been demanded structural development of Khulna City Corporation, an agriculture university in Khulna, modernisation of Khulna district stadium, an airport in the zone, completing the works of Mohila Krira Complex in Khulna city, appointment of more specialist physicians at Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital, construction of Padma Bridge at Mawa, capital dredging Mongla sea port, investment facilities in the Mongla EPZ on easy terms and construction of sustainable embankments and dykes in the Sidr and Aila affected districts and rehabilitation of the affected people there, excavation of the Kapatakkha and Betna rivers.

President of the organisation SM Daud Ali, Vice-president Lokman Hakim, secretary general Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, Advocate Firoj Ahmed, Sheikh Mosharaf Hossain, Nizamur Rahman Lalu, Mizanur Rahman Babu, Md Fazlur Rahman, Maniruzzaman Rahim, Prof Abul Bashar, Syed Hafuzur Rahman, Alhaj Mahiuddin Ahmed, Md Khalid Hossain, Sheikh Abdullah, Tapan Kumar Roy, SM Sohrab Hossain, Zafar Ahmmed, Bishnupado Singho were present during the submission.

Leaders said since the independence of the country in 1971, the people of the south-western have been remained deprived of development.

Terming different government approach towards Khulna region ‘discriminatory’ they urged the government to implement the development projects without any further delay.

^^ Exactly, we would like more coverage from other cities, but the sad fact is that internet usage outside Dhaka is very low, and even lower number of those users are interested to post pictures of their cities online. But I am glad you are posting pictures of Khulna. Keep it up!

Can someone tell me why isn't the government forcing on developing Khulna more faster? Even though it’s a major city. One of my friends is from Khulna and he said that people in that city are suffering.

The government only cares about Dhaka. That's where the jobs, money, international outlets and others are!

Govt. also cares about Chittagong to some extent since its the port city and main tourist spot of the country. World trade centre is going to be opened soon in CTG, Five flyovers are already planned (1 is complete, another one is under construction, rest will go into construction process soon). There is also a plan for tunnel under Kornophuli river, 4 lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway is under construction, I also read about plan of sky rail in Chittagong.

Even Rajshahi has some 400 crore projects under implementation but Khulna, Barishal are among the most under developed cities. Sylhet is considered holy city of the country due to religious sentiments and also a popular tourist spot due to tea gardens and also its home for most London based NRBs. So I don't think Sylhet is under much ignorance of the Govt. When the country was under heavy load shedding Sylhet was the most luckiest city to have very minimal power cut.

I think Govt. should just make a strategic plan to develop cities and allocate equal annual budget for all cities , so that no city remains under ignorance. Dhaka looks crap. Its not in livable state any more. Govt. should immediately think about decentralization to save the city.

I hope you are not trying to blame the forum members for lack of up to date posts on Khulna. Please remember, people post whatever interest them. Since everything is voluntary, please feel free to take it upon yourself to post more information on Khulna, as the city appears to be of importance to you.

Still others are welcome to post about any other city or town in Bangladesh.

Khulna, and most of southwestern part of Bangladesh remains under-developed due to poor road and rail communication with the rest of the country. Once the Padma Bridge is constructed, I believe Khulna, Jessore and Barisal will get a much-needed growth-spurt. And Mongla Port will also become busier.

Dhaka is the capital, and by far, the richest and most populous city in Bangladesh. So naturally, it gets more priority. But other cities are coming up too. I've been to Bogra, and it is turning into a nice metropolitian area, thanks to Mr. Tareq Rahman. Similarly, Sylhet and Chittagong are seeing some investment in real estate and infrastructure, although, they are not as much as Dhaka.

Easy solution for Dhaka fatigue: just don't look at the Dhaka threads. And Jahidus, you really should stop keeping all those non-Dhaka pics to yourself, and just post them already. Hoarding non-Dhaka pics just ain't very nice.

Dhaka is where almost 10% of the population of Bangladesh live,its the economic,political,and cultural center of this country..so i am not surprised that the govt. cares about it more.
Aside from that,it does not belong to PURAN DHAKAIYAS or any particular group of people hailing from any particular region,it is made up of people from all corners of the country.
Chittagong is getting a lot of support from the govt. too,and Bogra,Sylhet,Coxsbazar are all being developed gradually.
Also,I must mention that the one of the main reasons why the Govt. is today willing to spend about 2-3 billion USD on "Padma Bridge" is so that the Khulna Region develop more.

খুলনানিউজ.কম:: খুলনাঞ্চলের রেলযাত্রীদের সুবিধা নিশ্চিত করাসহ তিন দফা দাবিতে সাংবাদিকরা আগামী ২৪ মার্চ শহরে বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশে কর্মসূচি পালন করবে। আজ শনিবার স্থানীয় প্রেস ক্লাবের ভিআইপি লাউঞ্জে এক মতবিনিময় সভা থেকে এ কর্মসূচির ঘোষণা করা হয়। খুলনা প্রেস ক্লাব এ সভার আয়োজন করে।

এ অঞ্চলের রেলের উন্নয়নের দাবি সমূহ হচ্ছে, খুলনায় ডাবল রেললাইন, খুলনা-ঢাকা তৃতীয় ইন্টারসিটি রেল চালু ও কদমতলায় আধুনিক রেলস্টেশন নির্মাণ।

সভায় বক্তারা বলেন, ‘‘পাকিস্তান শাসনামলে যেভাবে রেলওয়ে ব্যবস্থার প্রসারিত হয়েছিল, স্বাধীনতার ৪১ বছর পর তা সংকুচিত হয়েছে। রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্রের সঙ্গে জড়িত রাজনীতিকদের অদক্ষ ও গাফিলতির কারণে রেলওয়ের আজকের এই ব্যর্থতা। রেলের উন্নয়ন না হলে মংলা সমুদ্রবন্দরসহ দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের উন্নয়ন মুখ থুবড়ে পড়বে।’’ রেল, পরিকল্পনা ও অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়ের নানা জটিলতা নিরসন করে নগরীর কদমতলায় আধুনিক রেলস্টেশন নির্মাণ প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করার ওপর বক্তারা গুরুত্বারোপ করেছেন।

বক্তারা বলেন, ‘‘খুলনাঞ্চলের রেলের উন্নয়নের এ অঞ্চলের বিভিন্ন শ্রেণী ও পেশার মানুষের সমন্বয়ে ২৪ মার্চ খুলনার সাংবাদিকরা রাজপথে বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশ করবে।’’ তার আগে ২১ মার্চ বৃহত্তর খুলনা উন্নয়ন সংগ্রাম সমন্বয় কমিটির ডাকে গ্যাস সরবরাহ, বন্দরের উন্নয়ন, লোডশেডিং নিরসন ও রেলস্টেশনের নির্মাণের দাবিতে এক ঘণ্টা ‘খুলনা অচল’ কর্মসূচির সঙ্গে শুক্রবার বক্তারা একাত্মতা ঘোষণা করেন।

বক্তারা বলেন, ‘‘এ মাসের মধ্যে দাবি আদায় না হলে খুলনার সাংবাদিকরা ঢাকা বসাবসরত বৃহত্তর খুলনা অধিবাসীদের নিয়ে আগামী মাসে জাতীয় প্রেস ক্লাবের সামনে ২ ঘণ্টা অবস্থান ধর্মঘট পালন করবে।’’ তাতে দাবি আদায় না হলে খুলনাঞ্চলের সাংবাদিকরা আন্দোলনের সকল প্রস্তুতি নেবে বলে বক্তারা দৃঢ় প্রত্যয় ঘোষণা করেন।

Bro..it's not that forumers are not interested in cities other than Dhaka or Chittagong.If you think of it...the overwhelming majority of the population of Dhaka hail from other districts spread out across Bangladesh.It's not like only dhakaiya people live in Dhaka.

Khulna to get country’s first IT village

The process to set up the country’s first information technology village in Khulna is going on, said the Khulna deputy commissioner.

They said a proposal for requisition of three acres of land at Shiromoni under Khanjahan Ali upazila had been sent to the ministry of science and technology.

‘We are waiting for the ministry’s permission for the land requisition,’ Khulna DC Jamser Ahmed Khandaker told the news agency.

In a public meeting at Khalishpur of Khulna on March 5, 2011, the prime minister announced that Khulna was going to have the first IT village of the country.

On December 21 last year, adviser to the PM for economic affairs Mashiur Rahman laid the foundation plaque of the village in the Cable Industry and Training area.

দেশের প্রথম আইটি ভিলেজ নির্মাণ প্রক্রিয়া শুরু

অবশেষে খুলনায় দেশের প্রথম ইনফরমেশন টেকনোলোজি ভিলেজ (আইটি ভিলেজ) নির্মাণের বাস্তব উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। খুলনা জেলা প্রশাসন সূত্রে জানা গেছে, খুলনা মহানগরীর খানজাহান আলী থানার শিরোমনিতে অবস্থিত টেলিগ্রাম ও টেলিফোন বোর্ডের মলিকানাধীন তিন একর জমি অধিগ্রহণের

লক্ষে গত ১৯ মার্চ বিজ্ঞান, তথ্য, প্রযুক্তি ও যোগাযোগ মন্ত্রণালয়ে প্রস্তাব পাঠানো হয়েছে। ওই প্রস্তাবে জমির স্কেচ, ম্যাপ, পর্চা ও আইটি ভিলেজের নক্শাসহ প্রয়োজনীয় কাগজপত্র রয়েছে। উল্লেখ্য, গত বছরের ৫ মার্চ খুলনার খালিশপুরে খালিশপুর জুট মিল উদ্বোধন উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত জনসভায় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা দেশের সর্বপ্রথম আইটি ভিলেজ খুলনায় নির্মাণের ঘোষণা দিয়েছিলেন।


সূত্র জানায়, প্রধানমন্ত্রীর অর্থবিষয়ক উপদেষ্টা ড. মশিউর রহমান খুলনার শিরোমনি এলাকার কেবল শিল্প ও টেলিফোন প্রশিক্ষণ এলাকায় আইটি ভিলেজ নির্মাণ করার জন্য ২০১১ সালের ৮ মে ডাক ও টেলিযোগাযোগ মন্ত্রী রাজিউদ্দিন রাজুকে অনুরোধ জানিয়ে পত্র পাঠান। অর্থ উপদেষ্টার পত্র পেয়ে সংশ্লিষ্ট মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপ-সচিব সফিকুল ইসলাম মে মাসের মাঝামাঝি সময়ে প্রস্তাবিত এলাকা পরিদর্শন করেন।

তিনি মন্ত্রণালয়ে ফিরে গিয়ে একটি প্রতিবেদন দাখিল করেন। পরে মন্ত্রণালয় কেবল শিল্প ও প্রশিক্ষণ এলাকায় আইটি ভিলেজ নির্মাণের চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ করলে গত বছর ২১ ডিসেম্বর প্রধানমন্ত্রীর অর্থ উপদেষ্টা ড. মশিউর রহমান সেখানে আইটি ভিলেজের ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর স্থাপন করেন।


খুলনা জেলা প্রশাসক জমসের আহম্মদ খন্দকার জানান, মন্ত্রণালয়ের নির্দেশ পেলে আমরা জমি অধিগ্রহণ শুরু করবো।


খুলনা প্রকৌশল ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য (কুয়েট) প্রফেসর ড. মুহাম্মাদ আলমগীর বলেন, খুলনায় আইটি ভিলেজ নির্মাণ হলে এ অঞ্চলের তথ্য প্রযুক্তির ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপক উন্নয়ন হবে। তবে ইন্টারনেট সার্ভিসের জন্য খুলনায় দ্রুত ব্রডব্যান্ড সংযোগ স্থাপন করা দরকার। ব্রডব্যান্ড সংযোগ না হলে খুলনার দু’টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থীদের আইটি বিষয়ক চাহিদা পূরণ করা সম্ভব হচ্ছে না। ব্রডব্যান্ড সংযোগ নিশ্চিত হলে বিশ্বের সঙ্গে খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং খুলনা প্রকৌশল ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের যোগাযোগ স্থাপনে এক নতুন মাত্রা সূচিত হবে।


খুলনার ব্যবসায়ী নেতারা বলেছেন, খুলনায় আইটি ভিলেজ নির্মাণ হলে ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যে যথেষ্ট সুবিধা পাওয়া যাবে। পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন সফটওয়্যার ও হার্ডওয়্যার কোম্পানিগুলো এখানে ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে তুলতে পারবে।


এ ব্যাপারে খুলনা সিটি কর্পোরেশনের মেয়র তালুকদার আব্দুল খালেক বলেন, “বর্তমান সরকার ‘রুপকল্প ২০২১: ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশ’ বিনির্মাণে দেশের প্রতিটি বিভাগে একটি করে সফটওয়্যার টেকনোলোজি পার্ক বা আইটি ভিলেজ স্থাপনের সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ করেছে। সরকারের এ সিদ্ধান্ত বাস্তবায়ন হলে তথ্য প্রযুক্তির ক্ষেত্রে দেশে এক যুগান্তকারী পরিবর্তন আসবে।

তিনি দেশের প্রথম আইটি ভিলেজ খুলনায় স্থাপনের প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হওয়ায় প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে ধন্যবাদ জানান।

বহু প্রতিক্ষিত পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণের অর্থায়ন নিয়ে নানামুখী আলোচনার পর মালয়েশিয়ার সঙ্গে সমাঝোতা স্মারকে স্বাক্ষর করেছে বাংলাদেশ। কুয়ালালামপুরে বাংলাদেশের হাইকমিশনার এ কে এম আতিকুর রহমান জানান, আজ মঙ্গলবার সেখানে ‘কো-অপারেশন অন পদ্মা মাল্টি পারপাস ব্রিজ অ্যান্ড আদার ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার প্রোজেক্ট’

শিরোনামে এই সমাঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়। বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে যোগাযোগ মন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের এবং মালয়েশিয়া সরকারের দক্ষিণ এশিয়া বিষয়ক বিশেষ প্রতিনিধি দাতো সেরি স্যামি এস ভেলু এই সমঝোতা স্মারকে সই করেন। দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ ওঠার পর গত বছরের অক্টোবরে বিশ্ব ব্যাংক অর্থায়ন স্থগিত করলে বহু প্রতীক্ষিত পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্প আটকে যায়। এই দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ তদন্ত করছে কানাডা।

২৯০ কোটি ডলারের পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের ১২০ কোটি ডলার দেওয়ার কথা। এছাড়া এডিবি ৬১ কোটি, জাইকা ৪০ কোটি এবং ইসলামী উন্নয়ন ব্যাংক ১৪ কোটি ডলার ঋণ দেওয়ার কথা। বাকি অর্থের যোগান দেওয়ার কথা ছিল সরকারের।

বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের অর্থায়ন স্থগিত হওয়ার পর মালয়েশিয়া দেশের সর্ববৃহৎ এই নির্মাণ প্রকল্পের বিষয়ে আগ্রহ দেখায়।

এরপর গত ২৫ মার্চ মালয়শিয়ার মন্ত্রিসভা পদ্মা সেতুতে বিনিয়োগ প্রস্তাব অনুমোদন করে।

টাটা কারখানার জন্য টাটা গ্রুপ বাগেরহাট এ বিনিয়োগ করছে. ইতি মধ্যে তারা জমি অধিগ্রহন এর কাজ সম্পন্ন করেছে.

KDA will build flyover in Khulna
Khulna Development Authority (KDA) will construct a flyover at Fulbari Gate Rail Crossing in the Khulna city at a cost of Tk 150 crore. The decision was taken in a bid to ease traffic congestion and to pave way for smooth movement of huge vehicles over the busy rail crossing. The construction work of the 450-meter-long four-lane flyover is expected to start this year.
KDA Chairman Brigadier General Habibur Rahman Kamal hoped that the proposed project would create a new chapter in the history of communication of Khulna city and reduce road accident on those area. Mass public thanks to KDA for getting this decision to making flyover at Khulna.

Great news for Khulna Fans: ICC has granted Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna for the International test match yesterday. West Indies will play their second test in this venue in the upcoming series against Bangladesh Crirkcet Team. It will be the seventh International test venue of Bangladesh.
