Grand Arena is the future multipurpose arena of Bordeaux, located in Floirac, as part of the operation of urban renewal "Bordeaux-Euratlantique". It will be inaugurated in 2014. The room will be mainly used for concerts and sporting events. This project was adopted by a vote of the Urban Community of Bordeaux on July 18th, 2008 in preference to a concept of Zenith.
This project addresses the need to create in the city of Bordeaux a concert hall capable of hosting international artists on tour, that today the rink Mériadeck cannot host. Grand Arena will also host major sporting events such as exhibitions of NBA basketball, judo, boxing or handball.
This large hall (the third in France by the capacity) will have a capacity for all types of shows and events from 3000 to 15 000 seats depending on configuration. The private company SAS Montecristo Développement (MAB Development - Nouvelles Fonctions Urbaines) will finance the entire equipment estimated at 50 million euros, but also the 29 000 square meters of retail space dedicated to home furnishings , sports, culture and leisure near the project, for a total investment of 200 million euros.

More photos coming soon...
Axelferis January 27th, 2012, 06:58 PM :?
when did they got the authorization?
Findecan January 27th, 2012, 07:02 PM If you're talking about the construction permit, it has been delivered 2 years ago :
http://grand-arena.fr/grand-arena-projet.php#upload/g446906.jpg
Il a fait l’objet d’un permis de construire accordée par Madame la Député-Maire de Floirac le 28 décembre 2009.
Axelferis January 27th, 2012, 08:03 PM Hey! bordeaux doesn't joke this time!
Findecan January 27th, 2012, 09:02 PM ^^ They never joke for so important projects !
Btw, I forgot to mention that the arena will host the World Handball Championship in 2017 : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1469908
Axelferis January 27th, 2012, 10:41 PM plus bordeaux is perhpas my favourite city in france.
I felt in love with it in 2004 when i visited. The cap feret and bassin d'arcachon are so marvelous :)
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 12:10 PM Hey! bordeaux doesn't joke this time!
I told you in the "Handball World Championship" thread.. But, as usual, you called me liar because of the stupid rumors published in some garbage media you looove to trust (instead of trusting e.g. what the financial partners of this project said...because obviously according to you they didn't/don't tell the truth ())... Anyway...
---------------
@Findecan: Axel is right on one thing: This thread should be in the "Proposed" section, as long as the works haven't really/officially started (building permit or not), 'cause, imho and for what it worth, your google map pic is not that convincing on that matter.
Axelferis January 28th, 2012, 12:43 PM pdp-> you contradict yourself :| The works have debuted but the thread is due to be in proposed section? i miss something...
Then newspapers vs you ? who win for the moment?
And to be in a list for an international tournament doesn't mean the final stadiums/arena whill be the same! remember nancy? (don't want to talk about lens :ohno: )
And the same for ASVEL new arena which is a dying project. don't wanna to talk the possible transfert of london arena basketball to Lyon...
For the mods-> please correct title "Bordeaux" and not BORDDEAUX
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 12:49 PM Then newspapers vs you ? who win for the moment?
Me, numerous time dear, but you apparently have a very short memory on several topics where you questioned my words... Oh, and BTW, it's not the "garbage media vs me" but the "garbage media you love to read and trust vs numerous guys (aka official sources) who worked on this project or on other ones", big difference !
About your first sentence, yes, as usual you missed something, which is not surprising 'cause you didn't read correctly/entirely what I wrote : So read again and try to understand what I wrote, if you can.
PS: Big letters (EDIT: you've just deleted them as I can see) just make you look stupid, dear, sorry ;) ! (not to mention, that I never talked or wrote something about this Lyon project, except the info we actually got back then (I.e. capacity, official schedule etc), and not suppositions/predictions/hypothesis etc like you always stupidly do. So, sorry but: Fail :tongue2: !
Oh, and no need to answer me cause I won't read your next stupid post ! ;)
Axelferis January 28th, 2012, 12:59 PM But i have no intention to answer to your previous stupid statement dear
My comments are relevant concerning nancy then please be quiet ;)
Findecan January 28th, 2012, 01:07 PM @Findecan: Axel is right on one thing: This thread should be in the "Proposed" section, as long as the works haven't really/officially started (building permit or not), 'cause, imho and for what it worth, your google map pic is not that convincing on that matter.
Well, it's true this aerial shot is not that convincing, but can you tell me what is your definition of "really/officially started" ? The earthwork works has actually begun, isn't it enough for you ?
I also said that I will take some photos as soon as possible. And I think that there are others users (from SSC or another forum you know) that will do the same. So be a little patient. ;)
Axelferis January 28th, 2012, 01:11 PM It will be enough for him when the same type of pics will be available for "his" beloved Arena 92
you'll see trust me ;)
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 01:12 PM ^^Seriously, how old are you ! (I really pity you anyway... sincerely)
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 01:19 PM Well, it's true this aerial shot is not that convincing, but can you tell me what is your definition of "really/officially started" ? The earthwork works has actually begun, is it not enough for you ?
Well, if these preliminary works really are what you say, then OK :) (because actually I wasn't sure according to the pic you posted).
Axelferis January 28th, 2012, 01:21 PM  everytime you are so touchy!
You must have serious problems to take everything at heart
Hey! relaaaax. :)
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 01:38 PM ^^ Quite rich coming from you, kid !
A kid known for his endless "my lille stadium blah blah, its acoustics blah blah blah, I've been to 3 stadiums in my life so I know all I need to know on this topic blah blah blah, my predictions/guess are universal truth blah blah blah" etc.
Stuff which are the only sources of pride he apparently has in his life (according to his systematic need to contradict any forumer who dares to criticize his "jewel", as if this Lille Kid was involved in this project, or as if this stadium was a part of himself.... Pathetic !
And the funniest part is, he thinks that everybody is like him !
Anyway, if you really want to know, one of the "problems" I have is that I don't like uneducated stupid people.
;)
parcdesprinces January 28th, 2012, 02:55 PM @Findecan: I also forgot to mention that the Google maps satellite views are not brand new generally... and, anyway, according to a infostades.fr forumer, your pic doesn't show the right site/land (:dunno:)
Not to mention the fact that if the building permit was obtained more than 2 years ago (may 2009), then I'm afraid it's not valid anymore, because according to the French law, a building permit is only valid during 2 years.
Quelle est la durée de validité du permis de construire ?
Mis à jour le 16.08.2010 par Direction de l'information légale et administrative (Premier ministre)
Le permis est valable 2 ans à compter de sa notification au demandeur.
Services-publics.fr
Anyway, let's wait and see.. That's why imho it would be preferable to leave this thread in the proposed section, as long as there's no official announcement/source regarding this preliminary works, because an info only gave by one infostades.fr forumer is not reliable enough, imho.
PS: btw, one of my closest friends lives near Langon and works in Bordeaux, so the Arena site is on his daily route to his work, I will ask him to take some shots when the works will start.
www.sercan.de January 28th, 2012, 03:53 PM Honestly i just not like the bowl

Hum, to see more clearly, I sent an email to the company responsible for operating the stadium. Personnally, I will go on the site to see what it is.
We'll know more soon.
Meanwhile, you're right, it might be preferable to place the subject in the "Proposed" section.
PS : Le forumer d'info-stades en question a l'air de source sûre. Je ne peux que t'inviter à participer au sujet avec nous. :)
Findecan January 28th, 2012, 06:39 PM @ Sercan : We have very few details of what the interior will look like, we haven't any specific render of it (only the pics of the model). So it's difficult to get an idea of it.
Pragmatus January 28th, 2012, 07:32 PM Hi there,
Ambitious project.
Which teams will play there after handball european championship ?
Findecan January 28th, 2012, 07:59 PM In the present state of things, it's not expected to be occupied by a team, it will be more used for concerts or sports exhibitions.
The problem is that today in Bordeaux, there is no enough important team to occupy the arena : the Girondins handball team is in the 3rd division, the JSA basket team in the 2nd one.
But I think if there must be one, it would be the Basket-Ball team, firstly because basketball is the most popular here, secondly because the JSA club is ambitious for the future (for example, Boris Diaw -who's also the president of the club - played for the team during the NBA lock-out).
Axelferis January 28th, 2012, 09:58 PM parcdesprinces is a funny guy
Everytime on the defense line...Strange...very strange.
You need to change the air you breathe  .Paris is a fantastic city but it is known that some bad frequentations with bad habits in some parisian parties could own you... :colgate:
Let's back to subject:
I wonder if this bowl a good thing for distance tribunes -pitch
I suppose they plan added seats
Pragmatus January 29th, 2012, 01:09 PM @Findecan : thanks. It would be a pity to leave this facility only to exhibitions (like stade de France). Maybe investors will allow the basket team to grow and use this arena !
Findecan February 21st, 2012, 05:13 PM My apologies guys. The works have not begun, and worst, they won't begin until some time.
The Bordeaux Urban Community (CUB) has renounced to work with the promoter responsible for the project (Mab Developments).
However, the project is not abandonned. The CUB still wants to build a hall / arena on Bordeaux. She's currently working on 3 scenarios :
1) The project is maintained as it is, but "Fimalac", the firm who operates Bercy, become the project owner (the solution to lose as little time).
2) The project is maintained as it is, but "Bordeaux Euratlantique", a public institution, become the project owner (the solution supported by the Ministry).
3) The Bordeaux Urban Community (a public institution), restart from the beginning the project, and finance it with the local public money (the worst solution IMO).
The decision will be taken next July.

...for the moment
parcdesprinces February 21st, 2012, 07:27 PM then we can maintain on "proposed" section this project

Just like I asked from the beginning regarding this Arena project... :|
MaMu691 September 23rd, 2012, 11:19 AM The decision will be taken next July.
What's been the decision? :)
Findecan September 23rd, 2012, 12:55 PM ^^ Well, still no news about this, no way of knowing if the project is still on track or not...
I think the Urban Community of Bordeaux has other more urgent matters, in particular the Grand Stade on which work should begin soon.
koolio September 23rd, 2012, 10:32 PM This arena is supposed to be open air?
Findecan September 24th, 2012, 10:27 AM ^^ You don't see it on the renders, but actually there is a roof above the bowl :)
