Here's a thread which is going to be similar to the Guess the city ones :)

Here you're going to the guess the car. The ones that guess it right will put up the next picture. Both pictures you took yourself and ones from the internet are allowed :)

If you don't know the model you can guess the brand first. In one post you can guess a maximum of three cars.

Let's start with a very easy one :)

Many people do not realize or take into account how dangerous it is for you to travel with your dog in your car unharnessed. If you're traveling with your dog for a seat belt you will quickly discover that your dog will go crazy about your car and will not generally sit quietly in a chair next to you.

^^ If you actually knew this from memory you belong to the few hundred people in the universe who can tell apart the VW Brasilia from the VW Variant II. When I was a kid, I was irritated at how everyone thought a Variant II (a rare sight even in its time) on the street was a Brasilia and then said "whats the difference, they are identical"

Here is the Brasilia, which sold over a million from 1972 to 1982:

http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/vw-brasilia-1977.jpg

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg267/scaled.php?server=267&filename=10810042.jpg&res=medium

The four-door version of the Brasilia is way rarer than even the Variant II, when I was a kid it was a happy day when I spotted one... as a taxi cab

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6044/5888590872_8def7e8844_z.jpg

The VW Variant II was produced from 1977 to 1982* and is one of the most obscure of the uniquely Brazilian VWs, especially because most people just think they are Brasilias, and because they didn't sell well.

Thats why I posted it here, I was sure everyone would say Brasilia

*edit: the Variant II was produced from 1977 to 1980

Galro
February 7th, 2012, 10:47 PM
It's no Avanti, but I will give a hint to what it is: It's a one-off concept car made by a very famous design house and it's using the mechanical (chassis, engine etc.) from a equal famous sports car.

mopc
February 8th, 2012, 03:57 AM
The designer is clearly Pininfarina, but the car, if it is a concept car, is almost impossible to guess, since concept cars are not catalogued or present in the streets.

Galro
February 8th, 2012, 12:00 PM
Yes, Pininfarina is the designhouse behind it. It should be quite easy to guess the actual designer from Pininfarina that did it too consider that he re-used some of his ideas later on other cars. It should also easy to find out which car it is based on. Just take a look at the wheels! When you find out those two, then the answer is only a quick google search away. ;)

Brazilian Alfa Romeo 2300?

Correct, this Alfa Romeo 2300 TI only existed in Brazil, between 1974 and 1987 and although its design is similar to the Alfetta sedan, it is a unique Brazilian design. It is the only Alfa Romeo that never existed in Europe.

It is much larger than the Alfetta - 41 cm longer and 7 cm wider, belonging to the large sedan segment, and it was one of the most luxurious cars made in Brazil in that period.

Here is apage about this unique Brazilian Alfa Romeo: http://bestcars.uol.com.br/cpassado2/alfa-2300-1.htm

It was the good old days when Brazil had its own car designs even in the luxury segment. It was the first Brazilian car to have disc brakes in all 4 wheels.

The Alfetta was launched two years earlier, the Brazilian car company FNM (Fabrica Nacional de Motores) just picked the Alfetta and created a super Alfetta.

It was exported to Europe in small amounts, called Alfa Romeo 2300 Rio.

Alfetta:

No I've never heard of it in Brazil, not even imported.

Imported cars were illegal from the 60s to 1991, so all cars we had had to be manufactured in Brazil.

That is why there are so many uniquely Brazilian cars even by foreign companies.

It is not difficult to import a car, but they pay high taxes - 35% for cars outside Latin America.

We did manufacture Dodges in Brazil in the 70s, notably the Dodge Dart:

http://www.allpar.com/photos/dodge/dart/1981-dodge-dart.jpg

This is a picture of the last Dodge Dart in the world, a Brazilian 1981 coupé.

Here is a page on Brazilian Dodges from the 70s:

http://www.valiant.org/brazil.html

Another:

http://www.foundationpc.com/brazil.html

Chrysler did manufacture pickup trucks in the 90s/00s (the Dodge Ram) in Brazil, but shut down again.

My favorite Brazilian Dodge was the LeBaron:

well I recomend a used compact car with air-conditioning (essential for Brazilian summer), such as the Fiat Palio, VW Gol, Ford Fiesta. They are "cheap" for Brazilian standards, economic and easy to sell.

It's a Buick Skylark. I'm not sure if it's a GSX model of it or not, so I will let you post the next picture.

No guesses yet, to difficult?
Then I'll add some more info:
When the manufacturer brought out this car the early units were produced within the company completely, but the own manufactured body was relatively heavy for a sportscar, so the makers decided to have the external coachworking done externally by other companies. That is why the same car was sold in versions with differently designed bodies, mostly either of the design type I posted above or alternatively of this design type here:

Within those main designs, they also manufactured variations as convertible and as a spider. In addition to those there were also a few more very rare unique and individual design versions.
Since it was a rather luxurious sportscar one can easily immagine that it is overall a rare oldtimer.

Yes, this one was difficult. I actually searched for a hour to find the car and then I gived up. Is it some British or Italian car?
EDIT: too late

Pegaso is Spanish and mostly only built trucks. The Z-102 was their first and only or nearly their only sportscar. It was sold in the 50ties.
Now the brand is owned by Iveco, I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't think they sell trucks under the name Pegaso anymore.
