View Full Version : Leben in Wien
Viel Dank!
Luftikus January 30th, 2012, 08:56 AM Dear Wolf!
We are happy that you will study german in vienna. But you are wrong if youthink there are less tourists in August. This is the busiest month for tourism
in vienna.
I mean a WG is better for you, social contact in summer with other students (excluding students who learn german in summer) is not so easy, because most of them are on holiday and university is not busy.
If you need a WG you can ask my son who owns a flat with 240m2 in the 2. District auf Vienna nearby to the City-Center (10 Min. walking) in 1020 Vienna Hollandstrasse 8/1/3/5 His Name ist Stefan Nowotny and Phone is 00432168388
or mobil 004366473587032.
I hope I couldnt help a little
Georg Nowotny

Oh don't get me wrong, I know there will be tourists but from what I have gathered I heard there are less of them in August compared to June and July. I also heard that there might be some issues with shops closing due to it being the time where Europeans themselves go on vacation, however they say tourist crowds are less significant in size.
KingNick January 31st, 2012, 10:58 AM The only shops closed at this time will be those selling fur.

August is the busiest month...
rheintram January 31st, 2012, 12:37 PM DasWolf, there will always be a lot of tourists in Austria's big cities the whole year, so it doesn't really matter.
Many students will rent out their room in a "WG" during summer. This is a great opportunity to get to know people that actually live in Vienna. E.g. my sister lives in a pretty big apartment and since she's working in Vienna she stays over the summer. Last summer they had a Canadian who works at the UN living there, a German who did an internship, plus her and another German student who live there regularly.
There is a craigslist for Vienna (http://vienna.en.craigslist.at/) but the better site is probably this: http://www.jobwohnen.at/?id=198 (although it's German only).
If you are looking for a room in a shared apartment then check "Zimmer WG-Zimmer", check "Wien". You may also add your price range under "Miete" (rent). If you do it now, you will see many offers that say "Zwischenmiete Februar", which means sublease for february. You'll find tons of such offers for July, August and September probably from spring onwards.
