meetmus2fa February 18th, 2012, 08:25 PM SURAT: Gujarat saw berthing of the first mini cape vessel in India "MV Kamlesh" by Essar Shipping (ESL) at Hazira on Saturday. MV Kamlesh is the first vessel in a series of six that ESL will acquire in the next five months.
The vessel carried 100,000 tonnes of coal for Essar Steel on its maiden voyage to Hazira from Australia. ESL has created this new segment of 1, 05,000 DWT (dead weight tonnage) to strengthen its bulk carrier fleet.
The vessel can comfortably carry flexible quantities of coal/iron ore parcels to meet the growing cargo requirements of power, steel and other core sector industries in India. Managing director, ESL, A R Ramakrishnan said, "We are proud to berth India's first mini cape vessel. Such vessels are ideally suited to Indian ports because of their unique design."
The double-bottom mini cape vessel is built conforming to the standards of American Bureau of Shipping and incorporates futuristic design and latest technology.

meetmus2fa February 21st, 2012, 08:19 PM SURAT: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a diesel smuggling racket operated by a city-based firm. A tug vessel deployed at Hazira port, which was used to illegally import 150 metric tonnes (MT) of diesel, was seized by the DRI officials on February 18.
The DRI received a tip-off that one Zohar Mallampattiwala, director of the city-based M/s Global Cambay Marine Private Limited, was allegedly indulging in illegal import of diesel oil through his barges and tugs deployed at Hazira port. Following the tip off, the office premises were searched and several incriminating documents relating to illegal import of diesel oil were recovered. Mallampattiwala had admitted to the DRI of having received 150 MT of diesel oil from one foreign going vessel namely Norgas Orinda at Hazira port on November 6, 2011 in his tug 'Al-Vard', DRI sources said.
DRI officials said that as the tug was stationed at L&T jetty at Hazira port, the officers of Jamnagar DRI went on board of the said vessel and found that the bunker tanks had only 103 MT of diesel. The master of the tug Al-Vard confirmed that they had taken 150 MT of diesel oil from a foreign vessel and admitted of having consumed some of it.
"The tug Al-Vard valued at Rs 6.75 crore and 103 MT of diesel valued at Rs 51.82 lakh have been seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962," said an officer.

AjayGJ21 March 1st, 2012, 02:58 PM SURAT: Shell and Total, operators of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Hazira in the state, will raise its annual capacity to five-million tonnes, surge from the current 3.6-million tonnes, by 2013.
This follows nearly 17% decline in output from the Krishna-Godavari basin’s D6 field’s production. It has surged the demand for spot LNG manufacturing. The output from the field, managed by Reliance Industries, has been 46.6 mscmd (million standard cubic metres per day) during the first half of 2011-12, from 55.9 mscmd during 2010-11.
Shell and Total would invest nearly Rs 450 crore. The terminal started with a capacity of 2.5-million tonnes a year and it has been expanded to 3.6-million tonnes after Shell had finished 'de-bottlenecking' in December 2008. Shell makes use of its Hazira terminal exclusively for regasifying spot LNG, as part of the international business strategy.
As per a recent report by ICRA rating services, India's natural gas supply has been affected during 2011-12 due to the KG-D6 fall.
The ICRA Report, states, “Overall, domestic natural gas supplies may increase to around 153 mscmd by 2014-15 from 143 mscmd in 2010-11. The current estimate is about 22 per cent lower than our previous estimates of 195 mscmd, primarily due to lower KG-D6 production and delays anticipated in commissioning of KG satellite fields. KG-D6 production is likely to remain at subdued levels over the next couple of years, especially in comparison to the earlier anticipated production of 60-80 mscmd.”

AjayGJ21 June 13th, 2012, 08:14 AM Essar Steel has commissioned a 19MW Heat Recovery Power Plant at Hazira. (http://www.steelguru.com/indian_news/Essar_Steel_commissions_19_MW_power_plant_at_Hazira/268133.html)
The plant will use heat generated during the manufacturing process, Hot Briquetted Iron Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (HBI-WHR) & surplus steam from Blast Furnace Boilers for electricity generation.
The power generated by the plant will be used for internal consumption, thus making the Hazira Complex energy efficient and reducing the power cost for the company.
Mr Dilip Oommen MD and CEO of Essar Steel India said that “We are a responsible steel producer, our focus is to have facilities which are both, cost efficient and environmentally friendly. It is a matter of pride for us that the entire process for this project from concept to commissioning, was carried out by Essar team.”
He further added that, our new plant is helping us to save the cost of generating 19 MW of power enough power for almost 10,000 homes which at today’s electricity prices provides extensive savings. This allow us to help addressing the national power deficit by not drawing this power from the grid or using scarce natural resources.
The company would also benefit with the availability of carbon credits due to the reduction in emission of green house gases. Also, the company can utilize the power more effectively without any transmission losses or leakages of power due to the proximity of the plant in Hazira.
Essar Group has already created a similar facility at its Canadian operations at Essar Steel Algoma Inc where the company has a Co gen facility. With the skills learnt in Canada, Essar is replicating this success in India.

GJ10 June 28th, 2012, 08:18 PM +1 Awesome updates Ajay :okay:
In the past few years we have seen container traffic see strong growth at Pipavav and especially Mundra, thanks to to lack of adequate capacity at JNPT. Hazira is now going to provide another alternative, far better placed than Pipavav and Mundra for South Gujarat/Maharasthra/MP catchment area.
AjayGJ21 July 5th, 2012, 05:31 AM Essar’s Hazira expansion faces waterfront allocation issue (http://www.livemint.com/2012/05/22230038/Essar8217s-Hazira-expansion.html)
Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s finance department has questioned a plan by the state maritime regulator to allocate without bidding a stretch of waterfront that the Essar group is seeking as part of its expansion at Hazira in Gujarat.
http://www.livemint.com/images/A4D6B58A-B3D4-41B8-8165-A93DC00A7BDAArtVPF.gif
This includes boosting steel making capacity at the Essar Steel Ltd plant in Hazira besides stepping up cargo handling at its port, for which the land is being sought.
Essar Steel wants to increase its capacity from the recently ramped up 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 14 mtpa by 2014-15, according to a proposal presented to the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB), the regulator. While the company hasn’t given details about the investment involved in the steel capacity expansion, an industry expert pegged it at $4-5 billion (around Rs. 27,000 crore).
The project has been awaiting government clearance for over a year now.
The regulator has given in-principle approval for the allocation of a 1.1 km stretch of waterfront and has sought clearance from the state government. The finance department has raised an objection to this.
Mint has reviewed a copy of the communication between the finance department and GMB on the issue.
A finance department official did not comment on the issue.
GMB, in its reply to the finance department, said the expansion will raise capacity to vessels of 100,000 dead weight tonnage (dwt). The permission to ETBL for waterfront expansion was in line with provisions in the Model Captive Jetty Agreement, it said.
“The length of the waterfront alone is not the criterion for judging the requirement of the captive port facility development,” GMB said in its reply, a copy of which Mint has reviewed. “Various other factors like capacity of the port-based industry, marine condition, ship size... etc. are equally important.”
The state ports and transport department asked the maritime board about two weeks ago to provide an estimate of what it could raise from an auction of the waterfront, said a senior government official with knowledge of the development. If the government can earn enough revenue without bidding, the land may be given to Essar, he said.
Essar Bulk Terminal Ltd (EBTL), a special purpose vehicle set up to develop port facilities and perform port operations at Hazira, has chalked out an investment of at least Rs. 4,000 crore for expanding the port.
EBTL signed a pact with the Gujarat government during the Vibrant Gujarat summit in January 2011 for the expansion of the jetty into a deep-water, all-weather port facility.
It would be for GMB to reply to the department’s questions, said a senior Essar official closely associated with the project.
“The issue is about two-three months old now and we feel it will be settled soon” he said.
In an email response to queries on the subject, Essar said: “As a group we look for growth opportunities and develop self-sustaining business models, including creating necessary infrastructure to support businesses.”
EBTL will require the additional waterfront to cater to growing demand of cargo, both captive and commercial, the official said.
The company has handled some amount of commercial cargo such as coal after getting the necessary approvals from the regulator.
It currently handles 25 mtpa of cargo, expected to rise to 42.32 mtpa after the expansion.
The government should consider seeking bids for the waterfront, said a senior government official. “Awarding another 1,100 metres will take Essar’s total length of waterfront in the area to about 2,700 metres, which is a very long waterfront as far as captive usage goes,” he said.
Cargo Motors and Israel Ports won a bid to develop Nargol Port, also in Gujarat, by offering high waterfront royalty charges. GMB levies a royalty charge on every tonne of cargo from the port developer for using the state’s waterfront.
A multi-cargo, multi-use terminal is being set up in the vicinity by Adani Hazira Port Pvt. Ltd and granting a captive berthing facility to Essar would cut into the profitability of the multi-user port, the finance department stated.
According to an industry official, the “no-competition” agreement between GMB and private port developers, according to which no facility can be set up within 150 sq. km of another one, ends in 2013.
The latest agreement between GMB and Essar for Hazira port will need to be examined in this regard, he said.
“The current proposal for allotment of 1,100 metres waterfront fits the licence agreement signed with EBTL, wherein the government had made a provision for future expansion. Many private jetties in the state have been given permission to expand. Essar can avail the additional waterfront provided it is only for captive purpose,” said a senior GMB official in the know of the development.

AjayGJ21 August 7th, 2012, 06:24 AM Hazira container terminal to flag off by August-end (http://oceaneus.com/index.php?module=news&action=latestnewsdetails&id=242)
A minor delay has pushed the commissioning of Adani Hazira Container Terminal (AHCT) by a month. The container terminal in Hazira, which is likely to wean away traffic from Nhava Sheva, will be operational from August-end.
Earlier, the company management had said the terminal would be commissioned on August 1. The 1M TEU capacity terminal, located 38 km off Surat in Gujarat, is part of the multi-purpose Adani Hazira Port, which has already commenced bulk operations in May....

Plans are afoot to lay down Rail line to connect AHPPL terminals. It will be executed by Hazira Infrastructure pvt ltd.(consortium of HPPL, AHPPL and RVNL).
Its not implemented yet because its facing protest from villagers. Hense, Land Aquisition is the biggest issue.
Till that, AHCT will use KRIBHCO's railway sidings and their ICD facility for container operations.

AjayGJ21 August 14th, 2012, 04:37 PM Hazira's first container terminal to start operations soon (http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/haziras-first-container-terminal-to-start-operations-soon/483081/)
The much-awaited first container terminal in southern coastline of Gujarat, will commence its operations by mid-August. Operated by Adani Hazira Port Pvt Ltd (AHPPL), the terminal may see first vessel calling the port on August 15, 2012, sources close to the development informed.
"This will be the first container terminal in south Gujarat region and we expect the first vessel to be berthed at the terminal on August 15. It is likely to be a container vessel from government-owned liner, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)," said a source privy to the development.
The terminal, in the first phase will have two berths of 650 meters quay and capacity to handle close of 1 million TEUs (Twenty-feet equivalent unit) per annum. The all-weather terminal, which is a part of the multi-purpose Adani Hazira Port, will have non-LNG terminals including container, bulk terminals, and a liquid terminal.
Adani Group officials did not respond to calls in this regard.
"There are issues of high congestion at JNPT and Mundra. There was an urgent need to have a third container terminal in south Gujarat, where a large number of industries are located. This will save on cost as well as time for the importers and exporters," said Sanjeev Shah, a chartered accountant and financial advisor based in Vadodara.
Currently, Gujarat has three privately held container terminals, of which two are located at Mundra in Kutch - one is operated by Mundra International Container Terminal and another by Adani Group's Adani Port and one is located at Pipavav near Bhavnagar, operated by APM terminals.
AHPPL is the developer and operator of the port under a sub-concession agreement with Hazira Port Pvt Ltd - a joint venture of Shell BV and Gaz De France. HPPL operates a LNG terminal at Hazira under a concession agreement with the government of Gujarat. HPPL has granted exclusive sub-concession to Adani Hazira Port Pvt Ltd to develop non-LNG port facilities at Hazira.

Tata Motors up nearly 1% in otherwise subdued market after the company wins an order for 1,314 trucks from Surat-based Siddhi Vinayak Logistics. The order book value is estimated at around Rs 225 crore.
SVLL specialises in transportation by road of steel, cement and chemicals, apart from providing third party logistics. "We have placed our largest order for trucks so far with Tata Motors of around 1,314 M&HCV trucks. Tata Motors had last year fulfilled its order commitments of 1,111 trucks by March 31, 2012. The value of the order should be around Rs 225 crore," said RC Baid, founder and chief mentor of SVLL.
Without divulging many details, a Tata Motors Limited spokesperson confirmed, "SVLL has indeed placed an order of 1,314 trucks with us."
In the intraday deal, the stock opened at Rs 268 and made a high of Rs 277. Around 4,81,639 shares were traded in BSE.
^^ 1,111 Trucks order last year + 1,314 Trucks order this time. (Total Order quantity stands at mammoth 2,425 M&HCV trucks). Company on growth drive:cheers:

AjayGJ21 September 25th, 2012, 07:09 PM Essar Ports has refinanced its debt in a subsidiary Essar Bulk Terminal Limited through take out finance scheme of India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL). Essar Ports has availed the take out finance scheme to reduce its interest rate by over 2.5% on Rs 405 crore which is part of debt taken for building its 30 million tonne capacity bulk terminal at Hazira in Gujarat, it said in a statement.
Takeout finance of the infrastructure projects by IIFCL is the government initiative wherein an infrastructure project on commissioning can replace some of its costly domestic rupee debt with finances from IIFCL. This lowers the interest burden on infrastructure projects and facilitates incremental lending to infrastructure sector by freeing up the capital of banks.
Earlier this year, Essar Ports entered into strategic alliance with Port of Antwerp receiving an equity infusion of Rs 175 crore at approx Rs 100 per share. The proceeds from this transaction was used to reduce the company's debt. The company's policy this year has been to reduce interest costs. For the quarter ended June 2012, Essar ports also reported 73% increase in the net profit after company handled highest ever cargo of 12.65 million tonnes during the quarter.

AjayGJ21 September 30th, 2012, 05:30 PM Lines demand deeper draught at Adani's Hazira terminal (http://oceaneus.com/index.php?module=news&action=newsdetails&id=377)
The inadequate draught at Hazira's new container terminal, operated by Adani Hazira Port (AHPPL), has delayed commissioning of the terminal by two months. Shipping Lines such as Evergreen Marine, Shipping Corp of India (SCI) and Wan Hai Lines have asked deeper draught at Adani Hazira Port's new container terminal.
A senior AHPPL official told Oceaneus that the terminal would now be commissioned on November 1. Three dredgers, owned by Adani.....for more here (http://oceaneus.com/index.php?module=news&action=newsdetails&id=377)
^^^^ This is the Forth time that AHPPL commissioning is delayed. This time delayed for 2 month. Don't know when this only port in South Gujarat will meet its fortune?!! Now hope is on that this time this port get on stream and serve the South Gujarat industries.
GJ10 October 29th, 2012, 01:06 AM From this (http://www.mundraport.com/investors/100120554_3_Operational%20HighlightsQ2%20FY13.pdf) Adani presention, some updates on the Hazira Port which should soon start operations, apparently this week!

AjayGJ21 October 29th, 2012, 02:30 PM ^^^^ Terminal looks little tiny, may be of >1 million Teus. And only 7 RTG Cranes instead total 12. The only problem AHCT may face will be inadequate draught which is only 12.5 mt, that may prevent call of larger Post-panamax vessels. For that, Hazira Port must have to invest in dredging activity to maintain adequate draft. Anyways, this November opening will hopefully see a brand new Container Terminal at Hazira and will be ready to serve south Gujarat industries as well as MH, MP and RJ.
GJ10 October 29th, 2012, 10:52 PM According to their website (http://www.adanihaziraport.com/HaziraPort/container.html), Adani say:
Two container berths totalling 600 m will be developed in Phase 1. The berths will be initially serviced by 4 RMQCs. The initial capacity will be designed for 0.5 Mn. TEUs Back up area includes 3381 ground slots for stacking containers in the first phase.
Finally 4 berths totalling 1400 m quay length will be constructed with a capacity to handle 2.2 Mn. TEUs.
But recent reports do suggest that capacity may be closer to 1mn TEU, which would be great if true. Just for comparison, Pipavav which is 4th nationally for container traffic currently has a capacity of 650,000 TEU, so an initial capacity of 500,000 TEU isnt anything to scoff at either.
In terms of draft, again from the website, they put Haziras dredged draft at 13m, whereas their 3rd terminal at Mundra is 16m. In that respect, AHCT may well be looking to Mundra for the very largest vessels.
The key thing that they have ensured is that Hazira will be able to handle any ship that currently goes to any of the terminals at JNPT (all 12.5m draft).

AjayGJ21 November 10th, 2012, 03:36 PM Siddhi Vinayak Logistics Ltd, one of the largest corporate logistics service providers is the largest fleet owner in India. It specializes in transportation by road and is one of the fastest growing companies in the field of transportation. SVLL in pursuit of vision and social cause announced the ‘Chalak se Malak’ powered by Tata Motors on September 18th, 2012 at Surat International Exhibition & Convention Center, Surat. ‘Chalak se Malak’ a CSR initiative by SVLL is launched with a vision to uplift the status of drivers and make their lives comfortable. HAZIRA: In another breakthrough in transforming container terminal operations, Adani Hazira Container Terminal has gone live with their WEB based Documentation system through their ADANI container Terminal operating system. This system gives the access to the port users various screens where they can make their terminal related transactions online. From Pre-advising containers to tracking containers all the transactions are available on a click of a mouse.
The main feature of this system is that customers can upload their transaction requests directly into the web, eliminating email, paper work and human transactional errors. The salient features of this system are:
1. Pre- advice of containers both rail and road can be interfaced directly with the customers system
2. Direct uploading of Baplie and Movins
3. Direct releasing of containers for loading
4. Container history
5. Special Services Requests
6. Directly uploading Delivery Orders
7. Online real time reports
8. UNEDIFACT messaging direct download/ upload AHCT is already controlling the gates and the yard through RFID. This system will integrate to the RFID system and the trucks will have seamless unhindered movement to the yard. This means no Queues at the terminal gates, reducing turn time of trucks which in turn will reduce freight charges.
Once the port is connected to the Ice Gate 1.5 system, Customs transactional messages will be directly integrated so that containers need not wait at the terminal for any physical documentation to arrive. The system was developed by a team consisting of terminal professionals and CMC Hyderabad and took 3 years of testing to come to this stage. During the familiarization training of external users many commented that the system would take care of many drawbacks in the present system due to manual entry and transfer of papers.
Adani Hazira Container Terminal is strategically located 120 nautical miles North of JN Port. Larsen & Toubro, one of the country’s largest engineering companies, plans to shift its major engineering works out of Mumbai as chaotic traffic and congested roads make transportation of products and heavy machinery in and out of the city difficult.
“Larsen & Toubro cannot grow in Powai, but Larsen & Toubro has to grow as a company.
Due to the new bridges and the flyovers, it has become extremely difficult to ship out large fabricated items to the docks or out of Mumbai,” an L&T spokesman told Mumbai Mirror on Thursday.
The spokesman said the rising cost of living in the city too is a factor. “The cost of living for our workers has increased in Mumbai. So, it’s been decided that the bigger jobs of the heavy engineering unit will increasingly be carried out at other centres such as Hajira (near Surat in Gujarat) and other locations,” he said.
Powai, where the $13.5-billion company’s main manufacturing base is located, is one of Mumbai’s messiest areas as far as traffic is concerned. Transporting finished products to the Mumbai Port Trust in the south and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust on the city’s northern outskirts are becoming a logistical nightmare for the company.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority officials said they are aware of the company’s plans to shift some operations out of the city. A senior MMRDA official, who did not wish to be identified, said, “They had told us about the difficulties they are facing because of new infrastructure projects. Our projects are built as per the Indian Road Congress standards, but it is a fact that movement of big machineries in Mumbai has become be a problem.”
The flyover outside the L&T’s gate 2 is 18 feet high, while sources said most of the company’s heavy engineering jobs are 26 to 28 feet. “We had held discussions with the BMC, MMRDA and MSRDC. While they had agreed initially to raise the flyover’s height, they changed their mind later,” said Bharat Bhosale, who heads Bharat Kamgar Sena in L&T.
It’s been 74 years since Danish engineers Henning Holck-Larsen and Soren Kristian Toubro founded L&T in Mumbai in 1938. The company headquarters in Powai house the heavy engineering and hydrocarbon units, the switchgear unit, and L&T Infotech. The heavy engineering unit caters to several sectors, including defence and aerospace.
The spokesperson refused to comment on the company’s plan for the Powai land that will be freed once heavy engineering units are shifted elsewhere.
