I was in canada. nice for a holiday or a few months to travel but could never live there.
freezing cold, 4 layers, crazy winds, during winter its living from one indoor space to another. everything is "only" a 1 hour drive away.
and there must be tranquilizers in the water, everyone is so mild and unexcited you want to shake them.

I must say that in general I am much more comfortable here in the winter than I was in Israel, where I was freezing my butt off every winter :) (no kidding). But you are correct that you wouldn't want to stay outside too long in -15 weather.

This winter has been very mild though. It is +3 today, and was +7 yesterday, which is usually unheard of at this time of the year.

I can live with 0c and some snow days but not snow months.
I dont like our two months of july to september where we live in air conditions and humidity sucks, still its not half as limiting as 6-7 months indoors because of extreme cold. Im sure you can get used to it if youre born into such a climate but its depressing.

but from october to june, its great. todays weather is 14c, sunshine then 2 hours rain. winter can be cold at nights
for us cold is 0 - 5c but mostly its 10 - 20c in winter. not minus 10, minus 20 where you cant walk 5 minutes outside and your lips freeze.

Well, to each his own :). I wasn't born into this climate per se (lived in Israel for 10 years before emigrating to Canada), and I know how the winters are in Israel, but to be honest the winters in Israel for my family were very uncomfortable because of the lack of central heating and constantly available hot water, and poor construction/insulation quality that resulted in mold growing on the walls almost every year. Despite the space heater that we used (and electric bedsheets at night), I remember having to wear multiple layers at home during the winter. In Canada, it may be -20 outside, but I walk around in shorts and a T-shirt.

Of course, this was also because we lived in a very old Amidar building, and as far as I know newer apartments are built to a higher standard (and central A/C units in Israel that also operate on heat can solve this problem partially if you're willing to pay for the electricity). Another problem are the concrete/tiled floors in Israel, which are significantly less comfortable than wood in the winter. This is also common to several European countries like Italy and Spain (from what I heard). Still, though, after living in a country like Canada for many years, you just get used to the comfort.

Even in the summer in Israel, I find it annoying that if I want to take a shower in the late evening (when the water heated by solar panels is no longer hot), I have to use an electric switch and then wait for the water to heat up (and worry about the hot water running out too soon).

Mind you, it's not free here either. If you own a house you do pay quite a lot in natural gas costs, although you save on electricity. The point, however, is that everything is designed form the start for comfort, even in very cold weather.

The ceramic concrete or marble tile floors are great in summer also the most durable cheaper, and easier to clean and keep with a polish every few years. Wood is nice but here its also more expensive and less necessary so 90 percent of new homes is tiles. Of course you can do tiles and underfloor heating in cold areas.
my favorite floor is polished concrete but its also the most expensive.

I dont see any problem with boilers and now you can operate them with a celular, with a timers or even on a fixed pattern.
For heating I think most people use air conditions on heat which is the most economical option for our climate.
Old apartments had bad insulation and thin concrete walls so no wonder you were cold.
