BMW have unveiled the design of their floating showroom in the London Olympics Park.
The elevated site will sit between the Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Park showcasing the automobile giant’s work.
It will use water from the river to create an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ feature, which cools the structure in an innovative and sustainable way.
Christopher Lee, Serie co-founder and principal architect, added: “The design takes the idea of the pavilion in the park – the Victorian bandstand – but instead of one pavilion we envision nine pavilions clustered together to form a family.”
Tim Abbott, managing director of BMW Group UK, added: “As a major investor, manufacturer and employer in the UK, BMW Group is deeply proud to be an official partner for Britain’s first Olympic & Paralympic Games since 1948.
“This commitment to the UK is also reflected in our choice of a home-grown architecture practice to design our pavilion and we’re delighted that Serie’s final design reflects our commitment to sustainable thinking in such an innovative and eye-catching manner.
“We believe it provides a truly worthy addition to the Olympic Park”.
Around 8,000 people a day are expected to visit during this summer’s Games.
As the official car supplier to London 2012, BMW will also provide a fleet of around 4,000 vehicles to help transport athletes and officials during the Games.

cnapan February 12th, 2012, 03:18 PM Whilst the renders of this bmw pavilion are quite nice, I did have a laugh at this bit:
"It will use water from the river to create an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ feature, which cools the structure in an innovative and sustainable way."
The word 'sustainable' is utterly meaningless these days. When planning the stadium, apparently, it was 'sustainable' to build an olympic stadium then later take 2/3rds of it down again just a year later and 'recycle it'.
Let's be clear about something. Building a lavish temporary car showroom isn't 'sustainable' in any sense.
What is happening here is that sponsors have to regurgitate the same bullshit that smothers the rest of this event in order to praise the eco-emperor's new clothes.
A sustainable olympics would be one that used the same venues each time. Likewise, if you want your car showroom to be sustainable, then build it somewhere other than in a temporary olympic venue.

a masterplan which integrates the athletic facilities with events spaces into an extensive parkland for the summer 2012 olympics in london,
united kingdom. the south park will be transformed into a leisure destination for the transient international visitors along as well as for residents after the games. the site will accommodate a wide range of programming to appeal to a broad spectrum of the public even on ordinary days along with pleasure gardens for ordinary days.

CarMadMike March 11th, 2012, 09:18 PM Are things like that simply 'pop up in a week or two' kind of structures? Because with things like this, the pavillions and the wrap still needing to be done, the clock isn't half running out.
*Nurse* March 11th, 2012, 11:25 PM Are these pavillions going to be free for all inside the park to visit, or for VIPs/sponsors only?
southseasteve March 11th, 2012, 11:53 PM Are these pavillions going to be free for all inside the park to visit, or for VIPs/sponsors only?
The sponsors pavillions in the park will be open to the public. The plans I have seen for the Panasonic 3D theatre, BMW Pavillion and Coke-Cola Beat Box and others, will all be offering an 'experience' based on the sponsors products'. They also have small areas set aside for VIPs etc.
The Olympic Hospitality Centre (OHC) will not be open to the public it's the sponsors private party area.

Emerging studio Pernilla & Asif has revealed images of its temporary pavilion for Coca-Cola at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Dubbed ‘The Coca-Cola Beatbox’, the project combines young people’s enthusiasm for sport and music to create a ‘stunning visual and sensory experience’, according to a statement.
The building features 200 red and white ETFE ‘sound cushions’ which allow visitors to ‘play’ the structure like a musical instrument and create their own melodies.
Sports sounds sampled for a new song by music producer Mark Ronson will be included in the design.
The 1,000m² pavilion – located close to the International Broadcast Centre – is expected to welcome 200,000 visitors during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Practice founders Pernilla Ohrstedt and Asif Khan, said: ‘As Londoners we are really excited to be a part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Coca-Cola, a truly iconic brand, has believed in our practice’s creativity and vision to represent them at London 2012, taking our unique architecture to a global audience.
‘We have sought out some of the most innovative engineers in the UK to work with us to realise our vision – a ‘building with a beat’. The Coca-Cola Beatbox will be a sensory experience that fuses design, music, sport and architecture. It will be something that people have never seen or heard before.’
Coca-Cola’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Project Team director of showcasing Maxine Chapman said: ‘With the eyes of over four billion people on London next year, we want to use our long-standing association with the Olympic Movement to shine a spotlight on Britain’s brightest stars and inspire young people to pursue their passions.
‘Pernilla and Asif impressed us with their creativity, technical skills and vision. I’m delighted that we’re able to give them such a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents and passions on the world’s stage. I have no doubt that every visitor to the park will be inspired by their innovative and ground-breaking design, both during and beyond London 2012.’
annamaria4711 March 27th, 2012, 01:28 PM fantastic really good combo of two brands, the Coca cola colours and the design elements of the Olympic logo...great I am going to have fun viewing these...its a shame they can't be kept...they'd make really cool bars, music venues and/or restaurants ..or other leisure venues....I really like these pods of designs
