^^

I think it's more of a shopping center than an enclosed mall but Rustenburg will definitely be a shop till you drop town.

^^ Well last time I was there, it was a town that was growing like crazy, with an urban centre that was going to sh*t; so it's no wonder this decentralised node is going from strength-to-strength.

I hate these mall across from mall across from mall developments with acres of parking space. kills the urban fabric, esp in these small towns. The one and only time i went to this town i could not wait to leave as it felt more like a farm/suburb with no real core and things like this do not help.

Platinum Square, the new 30,000m2 value shopping centre in Rustenburg, is fully let and openend on 29 November 2012, offering consumers a convenient, one-stop value shopping experience

To celebrate its opening, the centre will offer shoppers Carols by Candlelight in the piazza at 17:00 on 5 December; a Braai competition with Jan Braai on 8 December and a chance to win weekly prizes from Platinum Square stores worth R25 000.

The joint Retail Africa, Blue Cloud Investments and Standard Bank Property development will form part of the existing Waterfall retail node and service the approximately 40 000 Rustenburg town households, as well as about 200 000 households in the greater Rustenburg District .

Retail Africa’s Richard O’Sullivan says the construction process has proceeded smoothly and the centre is fully let. “The new tenants are aware of the enormous potential of Platinum Square, which will accommodate a host of specialised value retailers and bring new brands to the region,” he says.
The centre will house Checkers Hyper, Food Lover’s Market, Hi-Fi Corp, Toys R Us, House & Home, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Dion Wired, Furniture City, UFO Furnishers, Outdoor Warehouse, Wetherleys, Plastic Land, Pick ‘n Pay Clothing, Whitehouse, Liquor city, Geen & Richards and Ocean Basket.
Platinum Square, which is designed as a lifestyle component to enhance and strengthen the Rustenburg retail node, is ideally situated to take advantage of the accessibility and visibility created by the N4 from Pretoria and the R24 from Johannesburg. In addition, residents living in the adjacent Cashan Extensions will have direct access to the site.

A social space has been created incorporating public art – a distinguishing feature of Retail Africa developments around the country. In addition, Platinum Square boasts in excess of 1 300 parking bays and more than 430 trees have been planted around the centre to create an aesthetically pleasing landscaped environment.
