i like this building a lot too. it was originally supposed to be taller but the darn faa made them shorten the height of the tower because it is in the direct flight path to seatac......they wanted to retain the same amount of floors so they met all the requirements by shortening the floor to floor height ratio. anyway i give it a 8

It's hard to believe the Columbia Center (Bank of America Building) has been around for 22+ years. I truely believe it is one those buildings that has aged gracefully and become more classic looking every year. I personally know a number of Seattleites who first hated it and now like it!

A poster way back mentioned how this building also looks totally different depending on the angle and your vantage point. From a ferry on Puget Sound it is spectacular, coming in from the south on I-5 it stands out somewhat awkwardly, almost challenging the driver to not stare at it.
From the east it peaks its top over the hills and all scale is lost. It is imposing from any angle, but seems to get friendlier over the years.

A true gem, not just on the west coast, but the entire country!

BTW, the Seattle city council just within the past few days approved new taller limits in most of the downtown and denny regrade. In certain parts, there will be NO limit. Other areas will have limits, but higher than previous. I guess the city has come full circle from the CAP initiative of '89!

The remarkable thing about Columbia Center (now BofA tower), is that when it was built it was considered to be totally anti-Seattle, too big, too corporate, etc. But what is amazing is 23 years later, most Seattleites look at it as a symbol of the city, much like the Space Needle did in 1962. This is an important lesson in high-rise architecture...let buildings settle...the best opinions occur years after they are built, and how they blend into the skyline. This building defines Seattle today as much as the needle did 45 year ago.

I love the appearance of the concave facade! Don't know what I previously rated the Bank of America Tower beforehand,... but I probably gave this scraper an 8.

I remember when this building was finished, many thought the black facade was just too dark and forbidding. Time, (plus many of the photos shown above in this thread ) have shown otherwise. BofA (Col. Ctr.), is very reflective of the light that is shown upon it. A mark of a true gem! This building can have many different looks, and what with the ever-changing Seattle weather and light, works perfectly! Martin Selig, or whoever was ultimately responsible for the design, was way ahead of all of us.

This building is slowly becoming an American classic. Very underrated at first, but time has really improved this skyscraper. The photos on this thread really show the different looks this building can display. Just terrific!

It totally deserves a "9". I was drawn to this tower during my entire visit to Seattle and couldn't resist searching for it wherever I was in the city. It fits Seattle's sophisticated feel, being sleek, dark, and powerful. I couldn't imagine it fitting in well in any other West Coast city.

From a lot of angles, especially from a distance, it reminds me of the Rialto Towers in Melbourne. There's actually been moments watching TV or movies that it's fooled me into believing I was watching Melbourne, when in fact it was Seattle. Maybe the similar gloomy weather helps too.
