I think they are calling it doha tower, coz a very similiar building in a very close location is being built. I really need to go around with my camera, there is alot going on!!
But i knida hate the location, it will clash with its surrondings!
Bahraini Spirit November 7th, 2004, 07:35 PM so this one is u/c already. any ideas of the exact height qatar4ver? Besides the fact that the last floor is at 208 m.

Halawala October 31st, 2006, 08:33 AM QIB to finance Silhouette Tower
doha • Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) has signed a contract worth QR365m for financing the 'Silhouette' Tower project.
The 59-storey tower will be located in the West Bay. It will feature a ground floor and a two-level basement and will house 351 flats of different sizes and a car park to accommodate 520 vehicles.
The project's planned completion period is 30 months, after which it will be rented via a denominated lease contract.
The relevant performance documents were executed between Salah Al Jaidah, QIB Chief Executive Officer; Prof Abdullatif Al Meer, QIB's Business Group C O; Adel Hassan, QIB's Executive Manager, Corporate Financing and Mohammed Ajaj Al Kobaissi, owner of the project.
The contracting agreement was signed on behalf of 'Al Seif' Trading and Contracting, by its General Manager, Eng Ala'uddin bin Abdullah and the consultant agreement was signed on behalf of Sesco, consultant for the project, by its General Manager, Eng Ahmed Sheikha.
Speaking on the occasion, Al Meer said the contract was the largest funding made to a local property project and noted that it would consolidate the bank's participation in financing macro projects.
Hassan said that the project constituted a qualitative addition to the bank's achievements in the field of property financing.

Halawala September 29th, 2007, 03:04 AM I could count 40-42 stories on this giant! Still, I predict this will be tallest building when completed in Doha after the Aspire Tower. (not including Dubai Towers, and Barwa tower, which are due to complete next decade)
Qatar Son 333 September 29th, 2007, 11:23 AM wow high indeed LOL at the next dacade thing but yeah i hope barwa tower is built but what about the convetion center and tower ?
Halawala September 29th, 2007, 05:38 PM Its 220 meters in height, and it was originally intended tobe 250 meters but they had to curtail the height due to runway approach purposes! Its also a hotel.

Alcyone October 1st, 2007, 09:40 AM Hello everybody.
And, yes. It's now a program for a hotel . A decision taken little time ago by the client. in the current of July or June.
Massilia October 1st, 2007, 10:28 AM ^^I'm not surprised. Like I said the other day, hospitality business is currently a gold mine in here. Owners are lured into turning their buildings into hotels, even at the last minute...it's worth it. I've seen some hotel financials: more profitable you die!

Halawala January 23rd, 2008, 02:18 PM InterContinental Hotels & Resorts
January 22, 2008
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with H.E. Mohammed Bin Ajaj Al-Kubaisi to develop InterContinental Doha West Bay in Qatar. Targeted to open by March 2009, the 60-storey tower will be located in the city center close to both the main shopping precinct and business district.
The 540-room property, which will comprise both hotel rooms and serviced apartments, is the second InterContinental in the Qatari capital and will cater to the rapidly increasing demand from both the intra-regional and international luxury business and conference sectors.
Andy Cosslett, Chief Executive, InterContinental Hotels Group, said, “Having hosted the Asian Games in 2006 and invested extensively in the tourism sector, Doha has established itself as a key player in the Middle East with a high international profile. The fact that we are developing a second InterContinental in the city is testament to Doha’s progression and its ambitious plan to invest US$15 billion in the tourism infrastructure and increase the number of tourists by 150% by 2010.”
“There are currently 10 further InterContinental properties in the development pipeline across the Middle East and Africa region and with a Holiday Inn hotel also set to open in the city, InterContinental Hotels Group is clearly committed to the expansion of this exciting destination,” continued Cosslett.
H.E. Mohammed Bin Ajaj Al-Kubaisi, who signed the agreement with Cosslett, said, “We are delighted to partner with InterContinental Hotels Group on this prestigious project and we look forward to creating a market-leading product that exactly meets the demands of the increasingly sophisticated traveler arriving in Doha every day. InterContinental Doha West Bay will stand out as an iconic building in the centre of this thriving city and we’re confident it will quickly build a global reputation for excellence.”
InterContinental Doha West Bay will have a state-of-the-art conference center, which is expected to attract corporate and government-related businesses to the city, looking for high-quality meetings, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) facilities. Doha is also diversifying its product, by pursuing specialized markets such as education and sports-related tourism.
A Club Lounge and business center will be made available to business class guests and the property will also offer luxurious rooms and amenities as standard, focusing on giving guests insider knowledge on Doha, allowing them to discover the best the destination has to offer.
Food and beverage outlets will include an all-day dining restaurant and lounge (seating more than 200 guests) a steak house, and a Sushi and Dim Sum venue. Further restaurants will be located on the 55th and 56th levels.
While a gourmet shop at the lobby level is being specially designed to support Residence Suites guests, a gym, spa and outdoor swimming pool will be integrated into the contemporary hotel design on the 46th floor.
I think this will be the new Intercontential Doha West Bay, since the owner is Ajjaj Al-Kubaisi?
Greg January 23rd, 2008, 02:23 PM ^^
Yes, that must be it :)
Halawala January 23rd, 2008, 02:26 PM ^^ Great! More hotels in West Bay. Its going to be huge, already this tower is dominating the skyline--the tallest building in West Bay currently.
Greg January 23rd, 2008, 02:32 PM ^^

QatPhils May 26th, 2008, 07:27 PM like whoa thanks for the pictures but is that black facade ??? or is it just the picture....
No maybe the low sunlight being reflected from the glass.
Massilia May 27th, 2008, 12:01 AM Well the cladding is indeed dark shaded glass...it certainly is different from the render (which is blueish). I'll wait to see more in order to have an opinion. However I totally agree, this tower is so fat and tall, a real monster! : P
Qatar Son 333 May 27th, 2008, 04:13 PM ^^ hmmm maybe it will be somthing like doha's own sears tower !! and your absolutly right it does dominate the skyline ! visible from all angles in the west bay area even from alsadd !
Massilia February 4th, 2009, 05:48 PM Just a quick update on this tower: the contractor has been fired from the project after asking for variation orders of a huge amount, however the owner was subsequently proved right in doing so by the court. A new tender is being organized for finishing up the tower now that this story has been cleared legally...

s22.travian.ae February 27th, 2009, 07:45 PM WTF, no the state will not allow that to happen, they will do the same thing as what happened to Alnasr towers, pass it on to another company which was ICT Qatar..... this is not that hotel in Korea that was dormant for 20+ years which suprisingly is getting finished now...
aviduser February 27th, 2009, 10:24 PM http://www.iloveqatar.net/images/logo.png

s22.travian.ae February 28th, 2009, 07:32 PM Dude wtf, make a thread, dont put everything on another topic !!
aviduser March 1st, 2009, 12:40 AM http://www.iloveqatar.net/images/logo.png
Massilia March 1st, 2009, 08:24 AM ^^dude what's your point exactly in ruining the threads??
Everybody knows that Qatar is on planet earth and has been affected by the crisis. You just have to look at the stock market index, which is standing at -50% from just a year ago, which is reflecting the overall investors' sentiment. Nothing is hidden my friend. All these economic data are available in any newspaper daily! Everybody's aware of the overall economic climate! Stop making things up, this is urgent!!
Massilia March 1st, 2009, 08:25 AM The funniest is that what happened to this tower has nothing to do with the economic crisis. Yep, zero relationship with all the articles you posted :rofl:
Halawala March 1st, 2009, 01:57 PM Aviduser, ur latest posts in this thread are good, but has nothing to do with this thread. I would suggest creating a thread called the Economic Crisis in Qatar or something like that and you can post those articles there. Be optimistic man! Why so down all the time? :D

Qatar: Saturday, August 29 - 2009 at 12:00
The InterContinental Doha West Bay will open in December 2010, an official from the Doha InterContinental Hotel has told The Peninsula. West Bay hotel will cater to businessmen and corporate events, offering 60-stories with 540 hotel rooms and serviced apartments. The business hotel will have a conference centre, a club lounge and business centre available to guests.
Massilia August 31st, 2009, 01:15 PM ^^The tower is being re-tendered, as a dispute arose between the original contractor and the owner of the tower. Maybe these press releases about the hotel opening in 2010 mean that the contract has been awarded?
QatPhils December 23rd, 2009, 09:51 AM Hill to finish Qatar's Silhouette Tower
by Benjamin Millington on Dec 23, 2009
Global consultancy Hill International has been awarded a contract to provide project and construction management services for the Qatar Silhouette Tower – Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Centre in Doha.
A recent statement from Hill said the company’s role is to manage the completion of the 59-storey tower, which has suffered several delays and internal problems since construction began in late 2006.
The statement did not reveal the cost of the contract, but said the current construction cost is estimated at $400 million (QR 1.5 billion), with a completion period of 16 months.
The tower, which includes 365 hotel rooms and 180 serviced apartments, was previously expected to open in March 2009.
Qatar Islamic Bank is financing the project for the owner Mohamed Bin Ajaj Al Kubaisi.
Hill was also recently awarded a contract to provide project management services during the construction of the Al Waab Mall project in Doha.
A statement from Hill said the Al Waab Mall will be a 3-storey retail development with parking facilities for 1,300 cars located in the Fereej Al Amir District at the centre of Doha City.
The $110 million project is expected to be completed by January 2012.
The contract was awarded by HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the statement said.

Halawala December 28th, 2010, 07:14 PM The lobby will look pretty big with the metal structure in the bottom! I think its also a ball room with the lobby on top like as in the Grand Hyatt.
Excellent hotel, I think it will be the next "W" Hotel. I never thought the W would be this popular and bring life to that area.
love-qatar March 8th, 2011, 04:41 AM any news about how the work is going in the hotel?
