We all know about Shindgha tunnel, but plans have been around for a while to have shindagha tunnel carry traffic in one direction and a bridge over the Creek to carry traffic in the other.
The Dubai Smile Bridge, originally designed to replace the floating bridge, looks set to be positioned at Shindagha instead
The Dubai Smile will now be an alternative crossing over Shindagha tunnel!
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Client: Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)
PBS&J International, Inc. participated in the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) Seventh Crossing Dubai Creek Bridge Architectural Design Competition along with many other world-renown engineers/architects. PBS&J International, Inc. not only won the first place award with their Inverted Steel Arch concept, but was also awarded second and third place based on the four concepts they submitted. The Inverted Steel Arch winning concept, approved by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, grew in popularity with the Dubai locals and was quickly named the "Dubai Smile."
At the request of RTA, PBS&J International, Inc. has investigated the suitability of the Dubai Smile bridge for the Shindagah crossing. Our expert bridge engineers and architects concluded with confidence that with minor modifications to the original geometry of the Dubai Smile, the bridge will be a perfect fit for the new location. The narrower water crossing at Shindagah crossing actually steepens the geometry of the arch and accentuates its iconic look.

The floating bridge will be replaced with something else! Maybe the bridge with the massive tower in the middle? :dunno:
