View Full Version : Hall of Fame Category Ideas

Izeklah
November 8th, 2004, 06:26 AM
I had some ideas for possible future categories in the Hall of Fame, and I figured I'd post them.

CATEGORY IDEAS:

Best supertall
Best midrange (around 50-70 story) skyscraper
Best short skyscraper (49 stories or less)

Best (x city) skyscraper besides supertalls
Best (x country/continent) skyscraper

Most beautiful skyscraper
Strangest skyscraper
Ugliest skyscraper (?)
Most overrated skyscraper
Most underrated skyscraper
Skyscraper that should have been built (practical buildings only!)
Best skyscraper that nobody knows about
Best skyscraper in x architectural style

Any comments/other ideas?

My idea is to keep it simple.

November 8th, 2004, 07:19 PM
Why does it always has to be a scryscraper.

Hows about:
The best comieblock (5-9; 10-30; 30-... stories)
Best school building (5-10; 10-20; 20-... years old)

And if you want a scyscraper:
Best Baltic scyscraper (can be also "Best Baltic and Scancinavian")

How about:

Best up-and-coming city?

Best state capital?

Best Texas skyline?

Best beach scene?

It doesn't have to be indepedent buildings does it?

Jan
November 10th, 2004, 10:33 AM
I agree with Jason, you need to keep this one simple and general for a wide audience. With categories like 'Best Baltic scyscraper' and 'Best state capital' you're going to exclude a wide range of people who are just not familiar with these.

Next vote will be on 'most beautifull bridge' by the way.

Singidunum

Izeklah
November 13th, 2004, 08:26 PM
Keeping it simple is a valid point. However, I think there might still be room for broad categories like "best non-supertall" or "most unique building."

I think it is a bit difficult, because you have to have visited these places to judge them. It is nothing you can judge by some internet pictures.

I really enjoyed the best church category. That is how I found this page. I was watching a documentary on the top five Christian churches. (They listed the Hagia Sophia, Sagrada Familia, St. Peter's, Notre Dame and the Chrystal Cathedral.) Anyway, when they were going on and on about all the supports and braces needed to hold up the Hagia Sophia, I got the idea in my head to build a model, and I went searching on the Internet, and I eventually found you guys. I'm curious about religious building built by people of other faiths: Judaism and Islam come to mind first, but I have a vague notion that Japan and Inda are full of religious buidings, too, so I suggest some of the following categories:
Best Synagague
Best Mosque
Best Temple

hkskyline

ErinHowarth
August 15th, 2006, 09:34 PM
Yes, I saw that thread. It has some very beautiful pictures of buildings I had never even heard of. That's what has me interested. I think we have several contenders for best Buddhist Temple and a couple for Best Mosque, but no synagogues were mentioned at all. I wonder if this is simply because there are no architecturally outstanding synagogues. (I can't say that my own faith has built anything to rival the great buildings of the world.) Or perhaps it's because the persons on this forum are familiar with this form of architecture. This is a skyscraper forum after all. I’m really just looking for modeling subjects, and I've become intrigued with your discussion here.

IMO, i would rather suggest in the Hall of Fame a category of: "BEST WORM'S EYE-VIEW". Lets give the worm a chance to have its views counted...hehehehe... A protest perhaps to the birds. ROFL

Best highrise cluster (not skyline) would be cool. It could be based on management, density, setting, layout and architectual harmony...

Now I need to decide what contest to do next...

How about a thread for "Best Christmas atmosphere?"

Everyone can post pictures and videos of cities from all over the world at Christmas time. Sound good?

Best Density.

Best skyline transformation, last 5-10 years (or however many).

Best present building boom. (Toronto with its quantity? New York adding supertalls? A bevy of Chinese/Asian cities? London completely changing the skyline of "the city"? Moscow with its IBC and other large towers? etc etc etc) This might be the best one, and would serve as a concentrated wealth of information.

Best supertall cluster. This competition will definitely ramp up in the coming years. Off the top of my head: tallest block, pudong, guangzhou's new cluster, moscow's IBC (getting there), the upcoming WTC cluster, soon to be many other Chinese cities, KL is ramping it up...

I see this as a fledgling topic that will grow to a monster by 2015.
