Heh...im relatively new to to Skyscrapercity so dont know much about the Vietnamese members here.

Im curious why there isnt a forum for Vietnam. I really enjoy Skycrapercity i hope there is one soon for Vietnam. How do we create one? Are there requirements for it?

I wonder if there are a lot of Vietnamese members in Skyscrapercity, so let do some inventory. :okay:

I think there are 3 or 4 Viet members that I know of are using this forum (including me). A forum for Vietnam is quick becoming overdue.

I live in Dresden, Germany but my parents comes from Hanoi (by the way the best city in vn).
Every year I visit Vietnam and it gets more excited, because Hanoi is changing so fast.
Last summer we made a trip throught Vietnam and I could learn new experience about the culture and people. Before the journay I believed that the rest of Vietnam except of Hanoi and HCMC were very poor and ugly, but that wasn´t so. No, the beautiful landscape and other cities have change my opinion.

I have many pictures of Vietnam that are very interesting. But this month, I have to take a lot of semester exams.
So when I finish, I will upload them. OK?

I also support for a Vietnamese forum to show our country.

Kinda wondering..raffie, do you want to reorganise our local forums into three parts...East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia?

RafflesCity

hopefully Jan agrees to the Vietnam forum, if we can present sufficient reasons for it

about the reorganisation, I dont have any strong views on this, its perhaps better to create a thread asking for the other mods views first ^^

Hm...alrighty!

Meanwhile, it will help if more of these "hidden Vietnamese" actually indicate vietnam in their user profiles. It will be much easier to get a feel of their numbers this way!

I know that there has been a LONG STANDING request for a Vietnam forum for quite a while now. Plenty of threads showing development in that country have been opened. :okay:

I also think that Laos and Cambodia, unknown as they may be to most of us, :( will eventually deserve their place here.

In other words, I fully support the opening of a Vietnam forum. :angel1:

skynet126
January 12th, 2005, 09:52 AM
nah I don't think that the best ideas huaiwei, cuz then people will start to realize and think that East Asia is more developing than SE asia, and that South Asia is the least developed or the most developed in the region. That like separates Asia in category. I known this sound dumb but people always think like that :), if not we would already leave in harmony of peace. It just a common suggestion okie guys, don't take it so seriously :).

huaiwei
January 12th, 2005, 10:08 AM
Would people do that? Thats odd...

The only reason why I am suggesting it is because at least the list dosent look so long! :D

renell
January 12th, 2005, 11:03 AM
I don't think it would have any consequences like that. Don't take it more than that. It's just a separation due to the increasing number of sub-forums in the ASF. And if you look at the numbers, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines at the moment, if all put into a South-East Asian section would constitute the 6th largest section.

Then again, that would be the exact reason to not go on with the split. Gonna make East and South Asia worse than Germany. :D

kiretoce
January 12th, 2005, 06:23 PM
Or you can lump Vietnam together with Laos and Cambodia into an Indochina Forum....ultimately it's somebody's decision but that's just my suggestion. :)

Heh so who's Jan?

Is there a required minimum amount of membes to create a forum for Vietnam?

For the idea of creating an Indochina Forum...dont like it a bit. I dont want to get into a political debates as well as raising issues about past colonialism.....but the name does has a negative connotation to colonialism.

Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam; each has a different culture and historical background. I would prefer each contry has its own forum rather than collectively put all into one forum as if it's one 'Region' but not as distinct parts of Asia.

The term "Indochina" itself is very offensive to Vietnamese.

I don't care how the admin group the forum together becxause the decision is entirely depended upon you. However, I really don't like the word Indochina too, that word sound too ancient like back then, back to the time of dominating.

Actually, by the way this thread is going, it's almost like a subforum for Vietnam itself (sans the skyscraper talk)! With a number of people expressing their wishes for such, surely the powers-that-be will take note of it. Keep the faith and think positive! It'll happen one day soon! :colgate:

It seems that Vietnam is quiet a major subject here in skyscrapercity.com, so it would be just normal to have a forum in the name of Vn...

I think it's too premature to have a forum for Vietnam since Vietnam currently doesn't have at least one or two 30-plus storey building getting built each week or day like other countries so if a forum is created for Vietnam I don't know what the topics of discussion are going to be about.

Furthermore, it seems like there is no member currently living at Saigon who can take actual photographs of the construction on a regular basis to keep members update on the status of the projects.

I live in Saigon and do construction updates! I think actually Vietnam has more people "on the ground" and up with it than China...

If there is a forum for Taiwan there should be one for Vietnam. Vietnam will certainly get more members and posts.

Having said _that_, I am also against. I think there are too many forums as it is. There should be just 10: five for pics for each continent, and five for construction...

Yes..it is totally titillating that Vietnam has its own forum...I am a fan and like to hang out here. A question, which I posted in another Vietnam thread...I would like to make a trip to Vietnam and am wondering if any body knows about visa/entry requirements for 1)a US citizen and 2)a chinese citizen...anything you can tell me helps. Thanks.

(maybe not all but yeah..STILL........i just exaggerate to make it sounds more interestin') hehehehe!! for dah matter of fact, HCMC in peculiar and Vietnam in general are both GROWING FAST AND STRONG EACH AND EVERYDAY.....and for that reason, we vietnamese NEED to create a forum to inform the rest of the world out there that Vietnam is a unique and exotic country not a devastating war!!! so I'M ALL FOR IT , y'all! it's time for me to migrate now!! peace out!! ciao!!
P/S: by dah way, i really enjoy all dah posts about CONSTRUCTIONS and other stuffs in HCMC, and Vietnam!!

oh em gee!!! i just....skimmed thru t'is so-called controversial thread ..and oh my my...everything has gone *WILD* since my last entry....! *outraged*....WUT DAH POOP IS WRONG WITH THAT B.A.N.G dude??? omg!! hes like the LAMEST living human being i've evah known .....!!! unbelievable!!!! it's darn annoying 'cuz u keep on babblin' bout ur negative thoughts and attitudes towards ...absolutely...everything about Vietnam!!!! look....if u feel like turnin ur back against dah country .....for cryin out loud....at least keep it to URSELF..........omg!!! it seems like u wanna let dah whole wide world know wut ur been up to!!!! ***gasp in rage***!!! and dah most important thing........NO ONE C.A.R.E.S about those oversea two-faced losahs.....omg!!!! ( o wel.....probably..onlie U....since u'r so * OBSESSED* w/ escapin' a commie state and fled away to wutevah land..... as u referred in dah past..... *giggling* ....R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S) WUT IS DAH POINT!!???? so obnoxious!!! it's just wrong!! i *LIVE* hur in dah city ....and i never seen anythin happen like u said in most of ur posts!!! o wel....SOME.....but not all!!!! and it's very common nowadays...not necessarily in every country but...STILL!!!!!! gawwwddd!! get a freakin' L.I.F.E.!!!................ L !!!!!!!

Out of fairness----Let me break it down.

1st. "for cryin out loud....at least keep it to URSELF." Why can't you keep this dislike of Bang to yourself. You asked people to do things that you can't or wouldn't even do it yourself. I guess you will never be a leader, but if you do become a leader through bribery, you will not be good leader.

2nd. "!!!! ***gasp in rage***!!!" You need to control your anger and emotions. In other word, you need to travel overseas to take Anger Management 101 course.

3rd. "NO ONE C.A.R.E.S about those oversea two-faced losahs" Well this part i can understand why you wrote what you thought was right based from "a" textbook you have had read in high school. I believe you can use more books of The VN Civil War from overseas sources, rather than the short two chapters of your high school textbook. The Republic of Vietnam and America lost because of the American media. I suggest a good start is to read Chomsky's Media Propaganda. Ignorant is human but to recognize it is a smart man.

4th. "WUT IS DAH POINT!!???? so obnoxious!!! it's just wrong!! i *LIVE* hur in dah city" In my opinion, you'll need to get out more (hint: rural/country side) because you are well off in the city. I believe Vietnam is fast improving but not yet a market economy. Aside from the increase GDP and higher living standard in the cities, human rights is where it was 30 years ago. Google this: VN government harasses ethnic minorities in the Highland, children and women in VN smuggle across the border, Bride-to-be-ship to abusive and ++++ed up Taiwanese. When Overseas VNmese in Taiwan tries to help these women, Commie VN tries to stop them.

5th. "STILL!!!!!! gawwwddd!! get a freakin' L.I.F.E.!!!................ L !!!!!!!" Again, try to control yourself. Are you telling him to get a life because he is on the internet to read your puberty complication mixed emotions insults, then we all will have to too won't we.

6th. "and i never seen anythin happen like u said in most of ur posts!!! o wel....SOME.....but not all!!!!" Well make up your mind kid. Is it never or some? or maybe all?

ok i think we can stop this before this thread will get closed too...there's nothing wrong with Bang's opinions...we should judge an issue critically by viewing both the good and bad sidess..not just always praising an achievement without consider other related issues...

**there are a lot of people here tat actually contributed and created this forum in the first place for these purposes..so we dont need to act like that heh?

Vietnam currently doesn't have at least one or two 30-plus storey building getting built each week or day like other countries.

Ooh :nono:
What is it so much for?
It's much better if they there would destroy such ugly Soviet-style buildings at such speed. :fiddle:

I'm viet kieu from scandinavia and intend to buy a condo in Saigon. Saigon Pearl is in my eyeballs. Ordinary vn salaries can't afford the boom in skyscrapers. Foreigners must support vn and their real estate sector by buying the apartments. Otherwise the entrepreneur will go bankrupt.

I miss Saigon, people, I miss all those shops and shops and streets and markets with people and motorbikes, all the activities and nightlife, you feel that the city is much bigger than it really is, like in the States you drive through a cityblock-long building and that's it. And the sprawls r terrible. There in Saigon I feel people around. And food is everywhere...what a shame I didn't take many pictures when I was back there :( Sorry for spamming............. but I'm really missing it so much. :runaway:

check this article out, BRIC(Brazil, Russia, India, China), are expected to be the next group to go up to developed country status.
however, the Next 11(besides BRIC) includes vietnam.
go down and check the graphs, vn has a very high chance for becoming another well developed country among the BRICs in the next half century.

no all the lights you see are street lights, Vn is lacking in infrastructures, highways, that's why.

we use a lot of lights, but neon lights, so they're not very strong as incandescent lights

now I know why they said only 1 third of CHina is inhabitable, so we have lots of land left despite 6billions people.

yeah Vn is not wealthy but we're beautiful, look at our blond hair farm girls, I mean they beat all the girls in the world

India's infrastructure is well developed? I assure you its much worse than in Vietnam. One of the reasons why India is not developing as fast as China and Vietnam is because their infrastructure is absolutely shit.

"in fact the poverty rate in vietnam is very small compare to india (percentage wise not population wise" - now this doesn't make sense. If the percentage of the Vietnamese population considered poor is lower than in India (which is indeed true) then clearly there are more poor people in India in terms of population as well. So what do you mean not population wise?

vn has a very high chance for becoming another well developed country among the BRICs in the next half century.
2050, man that's a long ass time. what the f**k? The target for Vietnam is now to become a developed country by 2020 so even in the worst case scenario it would be something like 2030 so where on Earth did you come up with 2050.
Furthermore, India is gonna have like 2 bilion people in 20 years so there is no way they can become developed because the Earth resources simply can't sustain the level of cunsumption of the 2 billion indians plus the rest of the world. Their population growth is simply too high and due to cultural reasons it cannot be reduced. Fortunately we don't have that problem in Vietnam.

coolink
October 26th, 2006, 07:37 PM
yeah 80 mill spread out along the coast of Vietnam and the country side, that's why you don't see many light, we are simple and humble

India they have over 1billlion and are squeeze inside that area, they bound to have more lights

and you have to remember Vn is saving resources, usually when the sky turns dark blue around 4-5 other countries start to lit up their street lights.

I remember Saigon didn't turn on street lights until 6-7 and they shut down around 4-5 in the morning.....other countries 6-8 am (winter time)
so this picture imaybe was taken around that time
