It is sad that they are still using corrugated iron sheets for roofing, knowing full well that they will corrode in a few years and keep giving the city an ugly face.

Hold on buddy! What if there were no alternative to what seems cheaper currently? Besides, the last time I checked DRC didn't produce or manufacture even one fifth of construction materials. It essentially imports everything from nails to steel sheets. And you know how versatile the whole importation activity can be both in terms of supply and cost. Banning the more affordable and traditional construction product would mean banning any modern housing project in DRC and forcing folks to go back in time, to live in hut units. That would perhaps be the real "Revolution de la modernite"!!!

The result of having that dirty steel sheet roofing is the result of having uneducated people leading the country, its the same reason why we have no Construction Code, regulations and laws.

Even if certain small businesses make other kinds of roofing (which i know they do) this stone age leadership wasn't going to buy from them anyways. they prefer to import than buy local.

I know! I think the availability of construction products is paramount in the dynamic of building and/or rebuilding a country. Thus a country that is wholly dependent upon imported materials would obviously not be built at the pace of a self-sufficient nation. In Europe or US as you well know, roofing is mostly renewed every 20 years and the average home owner meets the appointment.
By the way, are these IEM's buildings on the pictures under construction (new) or are they the old ones left by colonial power Belgium, being refurbished? I know the area and visited the school a number of time.
