191 Peachtree Tower
Atlanta, USA
HEIGHT: 235m/770 feet
FLOORS: 50 floors
COMPLETION: 1990
ARCHITECT: Johnson-Burgee Architects/ Kendall-Heaton Assoc.
This 50-story skyscraper is clad in granite. The shaft appears to be two towers since the central portion is recessed (allowing for more corner offices) and since it is capped by two almost Baroque columned tops--which give the building a distinct skyline identity. The entrance presents a high arch (with some similarities to the monumental entrance of the AT&T Building in New York City). This entrance block with retails stores has an atrium.
191 Peachtree Tower won the BOMA Building of the Year Award in both 1991 and 1998. It has a 102 foot high atrium containing 15,000 square feet of retail space.

The two connected tower design is great, one of the only skyscrapers in the world that has used this technique. The facade is classy.

one of Johnson/Burgee's better designs and one of the classiest skyscrapers in Atlanta...the design would lead one to believe it was in a northern city (e.g. Chicago/NYC,etc.) and the double tops with the cupolas are great...9/10.

A very well executed design and does a fine job of bringing some necessary "nostalgic" variety to an otherwise youthful skyline.
However I've always felt it needed additional "bulk" at the base to balance the height and classic design (with maybe some subtle setbacks rising up half way as well). It could also benefit from a little "jazz" such as some aluminum brightwork here and there.

The top is a little tacky, but it is quite well done and it looks like a quility building, it looks a little isolated, this style of building would look great in New York surrounded by towers of a similar size :-)

8.5/10 - Bobdreamz, you took the thought right out of my mind...It reminds me very much of the San Remo apartment building (I think that's the name) in NYC, which has the same sort of basic design...
Which, IMHO, is pulled off quite nicely - the towers balance each other well, and they have good height, even though the building is massive broadside on.
Extra credit for two cupolas that bring the towers skyward soo much more gracefully than the flat roofs about which I grumble so much.
The indentations in the corners and the contrast between large and small windows in the facade provide a nice touch of variety. The Romanesque styling of the base, especially the round windows and entrance, goes very well with the Romanesque round windows, small domes, and simple columns with round arches of the cupolas - this pulls the whole building together very well, and helps it flow harmoniously from base to cupolas, which also helps the height.
I would have to agree with Enzo, though, that a larger base in relation to the towers, a few larger setbacks, and some aluminum brightwork might be nice, as would some sort of detailing around the smaller windows, which have a little of the dreaded "holes in a cheese-grater" look...
All in all, though, a good job...

I like how the building's two "halves" make it appear like 2 buildings joined together.
The integration with street level is good.
It also has an interesting and fairly ornate crown.
The tower is less interesting from far away, though. It's best viewed close up, rather than on the skyline from a distance.

I've got mixed feelings about it...
The top looks not bad at night, but the way it sets back looks really unbalanced to me. It also seems not really complete in the way that some parts of the design have a lot of deco features while some others are very bland. For example the part supporting the columns at the top, and the part linking the two blocks. It does have some good angles, so I'll go with a 5.

Fantastic top. I like the twin connected towers design The acade seems like a throwback to 1930's Chicago and NYC skyscrapers. In some pics it seems like they should have gone a different color with the facade or it just needs better upkeep because it looks dirty. But otherwise brilliant
