Westin Peachtree December 6th, 2002, 05:36 PM 191 Peachtree Tower
Atlanta, USA
HEIGHT: 235m/770 feet
FLOORS: 50 floors
COMPLETION: 1990
ARCHITECT: Johnson-Burgee Architects/ Kendall-Heaton Assoc.
This 50-story skyscraper is clad in granite. The shaft appears to be two towers since the central portion is recessed (allowing for more corner offices) and since it is capped by two almost Baroque columned tops--which give the building a distinct skyline identity. The entrance presents a high arch (with some similarities to the monumental entrance of the AT&T Building in New York City). This entrance block with retails stores has an atrium.
191 Peachtree Tower won the BOMA Building of the Year Award in both 1991 and 1998. It has a 102 foot high atrium containing 15,000 square feet of retail space.

Very nice. Looks a little weird but its still graceful. The facade in the 2nd pic reminds me of One Atlantic Ctr, another of my favourites.
Sunflower December 6th, 2002, 10:03 PM I don't like the top that much but fairly good overall.

AG December 7th, 2002, 12:57 AM The two connected tower design is great, one of the only skyscrapers in the world that has used this technique. The facade is classy.
9/10
SUNNI December 7th, 2002, 03:25 AM i dont like the feel of a connected twin skyscraper...7
the rest is fine tho..;)
Bobdreamz December 7th, 2002, 04:52 AM one of Johnson/Burgee's better designs and one of the classiest skyscrapers in Atlanta...the design would lead one to believe it was in a northern city (e.g. Chicago/NYC,etc.) and the double tops with the cupolas are great...9/10.

Tony 175 January 4th, 2003, 06:05 AM I like it alot. Seems to fit good in the skyline. I give it a 8.
Wu-Gambino January 4th, 2003, 04:32 PM Looks like one of the buildings on Sim City 3k 6
enzo January 5th, 2003, 09:07 AM A very well executed design and does a fine job of bringing some necessary "nostalgic" variety to an otherwise youthful skyline.
However I've always felt it needed additional "bulk" at the base to balance the height and classic design (with maybe some subtle setbacks rising up half way as well). It could also benefit from a little "jazz" such as some aluminum brightwork here and there.

coco91 April 3rd, 2003, 01:11 PM This building looks like to one of the oldest in NY (the Park Row Building )
Nostagia style...
My first impression is lukewarm

james2390 April 5th, 2003, 08:11 PM This is one of my top five favorites in the world along with Suntrust Plaza and One Atlantic Center from Atlanta. I give it a 10.
Grollo April 9th, 2003, 09:33 AM The top is a little tacky, but it is quite well done and it looks like a quility building, it looks a little isolated, this style of building would look great in New York surrounded by towers of a similar size :-)
8/10
Evergrey April 10th, 2003, 05:32 PM 10 Probably the best skyscraper in the Southeastern US... it looks very northern... and old... which is good... sorta gothic looking... superb facade... very intricate design... unique twin tower concept... and a brilliant top...

UrbanDesigner October 7th, 2003, 05:54 AM Excellent, original, and well-connected at the pedestrian level. 50 years from now, this will be an Atlanta landmark!
:applause:
Liz L October 8th, 2003, 03:58 AM 8.5/10 - Bobdreamz, you took the thought right out of my mind...It reminds me very much of the San Remo apartment building (I think that's the name) in NYC, which has the same sort of basic design...
Which, IMHO, is pulled off quite nicely - the towers balance each other well, and they have good height, even though the building is massive broadside on.
Extra credit for two cupolas that bring the towers skyward soo much more gracefully than the flat roofs about which I grumble so much.
The indentations in the corners and the contrast between large and small windows in the facade provide a nice touch of variety. The Romanesque styling of the base, especially the round windows and entrance, goes very well with the Romanesque round windows, small domes, and simple columns with round arches of the cupolas - this pulls the whole building together very well, and helps it flow harmoniously from base to cupolas, which also helps the height.
I would have to agree with Enzo, though, that a larger base in relation to the towers, a few larger setbacks, and some aluminum brightwork might be nice, as would some sort of detailing around the smaller windows, which have a little of the dreaded "holes in a cheese-grater" look...
All in all, though, a good job...

GetOnDaTrain October 24th, 2004, 01:09 AM 7/10. I used to hate 191 Peachtree Tower on my first Atlanta visit, but it grew on me for art-deco classical feel. But the double-headed monster still hasn't all the way grew.
Monkey October 31st, 2004, 07:17 PM 8/10
I like how the building's two "halves" make it appear like 2 buildings joined together.
The integration with street level is good.
It also has an interesting and fairly ornate crown.
The tower is less interesting from far away, though. It's best viewed close up, rather than on the skyline from a distance.
David3820 November 14th, 2004, 10:55 PM Yep this one's very cool and like the entire building the top is fantastic!! This building just wouldn't be the same withought that very cool top. 9/10

Nick in Atlanta November 27th, 2004, 08:15 AM 7.5/10 People really like this building, but it hasn't grown on me much. Too bad all the tenants are moving up to Midtown. It will be an expensive half-empty building in a few years without a major tenant moving in.

MattSal March 20th, 2005, 05:17 AM Simply stunning! I love everything about this tower. Probably the best in Atlanta too. I give it a Perfect 10/10. :)
Pengui April 30th, 2005, 05:50 PM I've got mixed feelings about it...
The top looks not bad at night, but the way it sets back looks really unbalanced to me. It also seems not really complete in the way that some parts of the design have a lot of deco features while some others are very bland. For example the part supporting the columns at the top, and the part linking the two blocks. It does have some good angles, so I'll go with a 5.
Latoso May 29th, 2005, 11:17 AM 5/10 Reminds me of a funerary monument.

Scruffy88 January 9th, 2006, 01:19 AM Fantastic top. I like the twin connected towers design The acade seems like a throwback to 1930's Chicago and NYC skyscrapers. In some pics it seems like they should have gone a different color with the facade or it just needs better upkeep because it looks dirty. But otherwise brilliant

Not by any stretch my favorite in Atlanta, but it still looks alright. To me, this is the kind of building that looks okay, but isn't overly remarkable in a place like Atlanta, where the Westin, BofA, and GP Building reign.
