View Full Version : Discussion: Issues of the falling US dollar and its effect on Cambodia AsianDragons March 29th, 2012, 02:41 AM discuss how since we have a pegged currency are we affected, shouldnt our economy shrink like US since our currency is pegged? mrfusion April 7th, 2012, 10:56 AM Hong Kong is very much pegged, China is very much pegged, they don't seems to worry that much. AsianDragons April 7th, 2012, 02:18 PM ^^ but then you have to considered that hk dollar is sorta backed by the renminbi, i think officially renminbi cant be traded with other currencies because its not floated or some government policy so it can only be be traded via hk dollar, AsianDragons April 7th, 2012, 02:19 PM there are other countries that are pegged to the US and suffered from that such as those in the pacific ocean, luckily Canada was smart and didnt pegged the currency Asian April 9th, 2012, 08:25 AM there are other countries that are pegged to the US and suffered from that such as those in the pacific ocean, luckily Canada was smart and didnt pegged the currency Canada was suffering before when the US economy still strong. Lucky now, but maybe not. The high ratio of exchange rate in the long run would affect Canadian economy too. We use to produce cheap and export to the States. Now, producers and exporters don't make much money anymore. However, they can buy cheaper equipments to upgrade their facilities. But, for people who don't depend on exports, they enjoy the high Canadian dollars. AsianDragons April 13th, 2012, 12:28 PM the singapore dollar seems to appreciate too much against the us dollar AsianDragons May 2nd, 2012, 10:00 AM does anyone know why the singapore dollar is so expensive these days mrfusion May 2nd, 2012, 02:34 PM I think one of reason is US dollar becomes less valuable. SeeMacau May 4th, 2012, 11:39 AM Not only in Singapore, most of our South Asian currencies are expensive these days ... AsianDragons July 7th, 2012, 11:37 AM i think we should trade directly with the renminbi, AsianDragons July 7th, 2012, 11:38 AM ^^ actually i think there was a news that said cambodia is ready to trade directly with the renminbi AsianDragons March 6th, 2013, 08:20 AM 1 USD = 3985.00 KHR http://www.phnompenh.gov.kh/kh/news---3921.html that means if cambodian are giving 4000:1 then are ripped off 15khr thats not good, its sign for currency independence mrfusion March 7th, 2013, 02:59 PM We got rip off all the time, since the smallest note is 100riel, as a consumer, we are making average of 50riel lost in every transaction. I remember a few years ago, there was a flood of brand new orange 50 riel for a couple of days, they all disappear now. mrfusion March 7th, 2013, 03:01 PM some shop still use $1 = 4100 riel rate. Not sure if I saw this at Burger King or Daily Queen (or both) yesterday. AsianDragons March 7th, 2013, 03:02 PM ^^ i happen to have an orange 50 riel mrfusion March 7th, 2013, 05:29 PM I like to keep strange notes, I had a handful of changes in Lucky Supermarket, my wife grab the whole lot, thinking it has no value, and put it all in the charity bucket (btw: the bucket is full of orange 50 riels back then), at the time, I don't care as I think if Cambodia release it, I will receive it again the next day, I was wrong. I have never see it again. mrfusion March 7th, 2013, 05:30 PM http://banknoteworld.com/image_banknote.php?t=CambodiaPNew-50Riels-2002-donatedsrb_f&s=1000 http://banknoteworld.com/image_banknote.php?t=CambodiaPNew-50Riels-2002-donatedsrb_b&s=1000 |
