Thanks...I actually meant these days Indian highways are designed for 180 kmph + .A big improvement :) Though the highway is designed for 180+kmph authorities limit speeds to 100-120 kmph.

Indian roads have a design speed of no more than 100km/hr, even those new Expressways. Even the new motorways in Europe with all those extra safety features have a capped speed of 120km/hr. You'd need a new powerful engine and a well serviced car to hover around 180km/hr without placing undue risk on your life and others...

In complete agreement with you. It's numbskulls with the mentality "Its a new road, I should be able to go fast as I want" that were causing all the accidents for everyone at Hyderabad ORR. You would think that they would learn after a while but I guess not.

6-LANE OUTER RING ROAD: CM TO OPEN 7.46 KM STRETCH IN JUNE



Mysore, May 26- The fourth package of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which is being upgraded into six-lane — 7.46 km stretch of road from Bannur Road junction to Columbia Asia Hospital junction — will be thrown open for public utility in a week’s time, said Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath this morning, adding that this stretch will be commissioned to the public by the Chief Minister in the first week of June.

Dr. Betsurmath, along with a team of officials, went on a padayatra on the entire 7.46 km stretch of road, inspecting the near-completed work from 6 am to 9.30 am. This padayatra, for a change, was devoid of any elected representatives, owing to election code of conduct in force.

The fourth package of the six-lane ORR has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 46 crore. At present, final touch-up works like erecting lamp posts, providing electricity connections, covering the underground drains and erecting sign boards are in progress.

The other three packages —(i) from Columbia Aisa hospital junction to the Vikrant Tyre factory junction, (ii) Vikrant factory junction to Hinkal and (iii) Hinkal to Nanjangud Road junction have been already completed.

The six-lane Expressway will be completed only after the completion of the fifth package, aptly termed as the "missing link" — a 9.2 km stretch from Bannur Road junction to Nanjangud Road junction, for which an estimate of Rs. 54 crore has been planned.

District In-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas, when contacted in this regard, said that additional funds for this package have been sought from the State Government and administrative approval is awaited.

Once the six-lane ORR is completed, plying of heavy vehicles within the city will be drastically reduced, according to officials who said that once the 'missing link' is completed, it would provide road link to the Truck Terminal where the heavy vehicles can be parked overnight, instead of congesting the city roads.

The 32-km stretch of the ORR was completed five years ago, which is now being upgraded for six lanes. Initially, the project cost was put at Rs. 239 crore, which has now shot up to Rs. 347 crore, and it includes building of service lane on both ends. http://www.starofmysore.com

Peripheral Ring Road to be growth engine of Mysore

MYSORE: Move over the Outer Ring Road. The mini-metro will have a Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) that will help in stretching the boundaries of the city netting additional space for people to house in.

Projected as the next destination after Bangalore, the tourist hub will sport the next version of the ring road once the draft proposals in Master Plan 2031 are accorded a go-ahead. The PRR is planned to be developed 7 kms away from the Outer Ring Road, which will extend the city limits by over three times.

Sources told The Times of India that the PRR forms the pivotal project of the Master Plan 2031 submitted by the Mysore Urban Development Authority. "The proposed expressway will be built 7 kms away from the ORR, which will help us bring into the city area the rural areas surrounding Mysore," they stated. The city's development agenda cab be chalked out better given the availability of land.

This comes amidst upgradation of the ORR to six-lane highway at a cost of Rs 347 crore. The six-lane expressway will be ready by July helping Mysore to in development agenda even as it cuts down traffic inside the city areas. The ORR project assisted the civic bodies to extend the boundaries in 2000 when major part of it was completed. The ORR stretching 22 meters and connecting major roads spurred realty. While the Mysore City Corporation is planned to be upgraded to Brauth Mysore City Corporation adding 41 villages in its surrounding, the MUDA has broader vision for the city. The proposal to upgrade the MCC has run into trouble with the Mysore MP H Vishwanath opposing it.

When it started to work on comprehensive development plan (CDP), the urban body focused on attending to the increased demand for land around Mysore for housing and non-housing purposes. The PRR is not part of the plan to extend the limits of the MCC. The Master Plan 2031 is essentially to ensure that Mysore retains its brand value as a planned city, the sources stated. The plan is to attract investment to Mysore on IT/BT and service sectors. "We can control the land use pattern by way of regulations in the areas that form part of Master Plan 2031 and keep Mysore's growth on the track," they explained.

The Master Plan 2031 aims to go in for satellite model of growth and planning to include 117 villages in Mysore, Nanjangud and Srirangapatna taluks. With the city getting additional water courtesy Kabini drinking water project, the MUDA aims to sustain the growth for 20 years.

Quality is good and surface is smooth enough.But it has curves,the only drawback of this ORR,just like that road rash game hehe.This ORR serves well for a city like mysore.This ORR primarily connects huge residential layouts.May be the PRR which is planned will be able to replicate what Bangalore ORR did i.e. lot of commercial activity + IT spaces.Considering the fact that Mysore stands to benefit in future owing to its proximity to Bangalore.

In my opinion, among tire 2 cities in India, Mysore would probably be the best bet for real estate investments.

Mysore, Jaipur, Kochi, Agra, Nashik are all good options. Agra is also a good option given the Yamuna Expressway's impact. :cheers:

Mysore seems to have the best outer ring roads amongst non-capital cities. Is the current BJP state govt. doing a decent job outside of Blr?
