Hello everybody!

My name is Andrés, i'm 20 years old, i'm Chilean and i need your help (please!)

I'm studying laws in Chile, and I want to apply for an exchange program, My University offers me the possibility to take a semester at the Texas State University (between other universities of course) but I have no idea about the student profile and the university orientation.

Why Texas? My family had been hosting foreign students since I was 14, many of them from Minnesota, a few from Colorado, South Carolina, Florida and one from Germany. But my 2 best sisters where from Texas, we are still in contact after 2 years, so it would be very nice to invert the papers (I don't know if that is a correct phrase). Chilean and Texan flags are very similar, I know there is a big presence of LA people so i wont be alone (aww), I had always love some Texan cities, great skylines! And I want to take a break of my country earthquakes (3 quakes in a week! 6,7-4,9-5,4). And, of course, I love to travel, meet people and experience new things.

How you can help me? You can place your money in the bank account....Nah, just joking. My plan is, basically, take a Political Science semester so...Is Texas State a well know political science university? Is there any advice you can give me? Any tip?

In future I will ask more things, cost of life, things to do, etc

As a graduate from Texas State I shall try to indulge you.

The Texas State Political Science program is well-known but I was a geography major so I dont know specifics. However, the geography program is among the top in the US. The campus is beautiful but be prepared to walk up and down a lot of hills. Assuming you live on campus, most of your classes are easily within walking distance. If you do not feel like walking then you can take the convenient and reliable bus.

San Marcos is a great city. You are about half-way between Austin and San Antonio so there is a lot to see and do. There is also the river. You will love this river.

You should see if they have exchange programs for University of Houston (main campus) or maybe University of Texas. University of Houston has a good poly sci program. I had a friend that started his law degree there with poly sci. UT has a really great law school not sure about poly sci but the girls couldnt get any hotter and Austin rocks like you would not believe.

If you have any Ivy league opportunities I would say look into to going to Rice University here in Houston. Really great school. It is a private school though and I do not know the specifics of your program.

Or dont go to Houston. San Marcos is near San Antonio, who has a way better zoo.

Check out University of Texas, it's a great school but highly competitive. Also take a look into University of Texas - Dallas, which is also a UT school, but not nearly as competitive UT Austin. UT Dallas offers a great political science program, and has a huge global business program which would also be something great for you to look into!

The above post is biased because I will be attending UT Dallas next semester :P

Also what other courses are you looking into, or are you already set on poli-sci?
