Hello everyone! I'm an Italian student and i'm writing a paper about a comparison between Brasil and South Africa and i'm in charge (within my groupwork) of the infrastructure part (also of the service sector and tourism). I would like to ask if somebody can please tell me which are the most important infrastuctures under construction or built in the past decade in South Africa. Since my part isn't very long, i just need some few examples to fill around 4 or 5 pages. I would have looked myself throughout the forum but i think asking is a more efficient way to know which infrastructure i should include in the paper :)

If this is the wrong part of the forum to put it i'm sorry, but i don't know where else to :)

Thank you in advance
Andrea

Andrea

There are many and I'm sure we'll add some as the time progresses. But what immediately comes to mind are:

All the football stadia built and upgraded for the World Cup in 2010
Gautrain
New King Shaka International Airport in Durban, as well as many Airport Upgrades and Expansions
Berg River Dam
Nelson Mandela Bridge
Khayelitsha District Hospital
Port of Nqura (Coega)
Cape Town Freeway upgrades (Hospital Bend, Koeberg Interchange)
Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (opened 2002)
Bus Rapid Transit systems in Johannesburg and Cape Town
Dube Trade Port
Seacom Cable (undersea, so not in South Africa, but partly owned by Neotel)
West Africa Cable System (undersea)
Port expansions at Cape Town, Durban, Richard's Bay, Saldanha, etc.

Things in the pipeline include Durban dug-out port, PRASA rolling stock renewal, Transnet Freight expansions, new power plants

There is a lot more, but you can also just google and you'll find a lot of info.
