Are there overhead powerline crossings of Ganges river and other waterways near Kolkata? If yes, please post some pictures and technical data of them. I believe, if they exist, they must use very tall towers.

In the core city there is a tunnel under river Hooghly built in 1931.

Haven't seen any transmission towers across the river in the main city area.

Could be there further upstream (north). There is a transmission line north of Kalyani township and another one at Titagarh Power Station. You can see both in google earth.

Downstream there are towers to Sagar Island (http://www.telegraphindia.com/1120103/jsp/bengal/story_14955601.jsp).

And they have a tender (www.haldiaenergy.co.in/NIT%20&%20ITB.pdf) for constructing a tunnel and a EOI for transmission towers (www.haldiaenergy.co.in/EOI%20Haldia%20RX%20Twr.pdf) at Haldia further south.

Will see if there is any technical data or photos in the web. These are probably not public domain stuff.

Interesting. Why will this line be built as DC line? Are the 240 metres tall towers of the crossing already under construction?
