Gudavalli May 8th, 2012, 06:55 AM Storm water drains or sewers? (http://ibnlive.in.com/news/storm-water-drains-or-sewers/255457-60-114.html)
TIRUPATI: It is intriguing to note that the storm water drains which were intended to ensure smooth flow of rain waters and prevent inundation of low lying areas during rains have turned into major pollutants in the pilgrim town.
Seven storm water drains with a total length of 25 km were proposed at a cost of Rs 44.82 crore under JNNRUM, out of which, only one has been completed while the six remains incompleted. Besides, 10 other drains were also taken up and completed by municipal corporation with its own funds.
The drains have become a perennial source of contamination, and the stench oozing out of it is serving as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Health department has failed to clean them up regularly.
Public health executive engineer J Venkateswrlu said, only 12.15 km of long drains’ construction, costing about Rs 22.5 crore, had been completed. Work on the four other drains were stalled due to illegal encroachments in the areas; Prakash Nagar to Gollavani gunta, Alipiri to Kalyani junction, Sanskrit Vidyapeeth to backyard of Tirupati court, and Srikrishna Nagar (MR Palle) to Koramenigunta. The drain passage from Greenpark apartments to Chennaigunta was stopped after Hathiramji mutt filed a case, and secured a stay over it on the ground that the drain pass through mutt land near Greenpark apartment.
The municipality could not move ahead in removing the encroachments all along the proposed canal(drain) due to stiff resistance from the encroachers.
As per the norm, the minimum width of a storm water drain should be three metres, but with structures sprang up on both sides, it was shrunk to just three-four feet (about a metre).
Gudavalli May 9th, 2012, 10:24 PM Protected status for Tirupati Balaji Temple? (http://zeenews.india.com/news/andhra-pradesh/protected-status-for-tirupati-balaji-temple_774177.html)
Hyderabad: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is considering a proposal to recommend recognition of the famous Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati as a monument of national importance in view of its archaeological, epigraphical and historical background and cultural significance.
The proposal is being considered by the ASI and it is likely to make the recommendation to the Union Ministry of Culture, K K Sharma, Deputy Superintending Archaeologist of ASI, said.
He, however, said a timeframe cannot be put on when the proposal is likely to be made formally to the government as the process takes time.
Declaring the ancient temple, located atop the Tirumala hills, as a protected monument by the ASI would go a long way in conserving its archaeological value and heritage, Sharma said.
The matter could be expedited if the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the governing body for the temple, agrees to the proposal for making the temple as a protected monument, he observed.
The ASI feels that dismantling of the historical thousand pillar mantapam at Tirumala and the gold-plating of the outer walls of the 'garbha griha', where inscriptions exist, as per the 'Ananta Swarnamayam' scheme are against archaeological norms.
Separately, the ASI, in an RTI reply to B K S R Ayyangar, a social activist based at Eluru in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, has favoured several steps to ensure the temple's protection.
The petitioner had sought information over action initiated by the ASI regarding recognition of Lord Venkateswara Temple as a monument under ASI.
In the reply, the ASI said the temple may be considered for protection by ASI as a monument of national importance and also talked about dismantling of the thousand pillared mantapam as a violation.
Further, it favoured that any activity at the temple which is related to the archaeological aspect be informed to the Archaeological Survey of India and Department of Archaeology and Museums, Andhra Pradesh to review the pros and cons as well the archaeological norms thoroughly and recommend the necessary inputs for execution.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) may provide a space for archaeology by nominating the Director General or representative of ASI and Department of Archaeology and Museums as a member in the Trust Board which takes policy decisions for the benefit of devotees and the temple to prevent any action violating archaeological/heritage norms at the policy level itself, the ASI said.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam may provide the fund for protecting cultural heritage and monuments which are in need of attention, it said.
Observing that the temple is visited by about 50,000 devotees per day on an average and about four lakhs during festivities, the ASI commended the way TTD is dealing with all aspects of the temple administration.
It is necessary to have an archaeological wing to review and recommend suitable procedure in view of archaeological norms wherever necessary, ASI said.
"The archaeological wing is to be adequately equipped with technical team headed by a Director. The decision for betterment of the facilities for the devotees are to be reviewed there only to avoid delay. Since, a museum also exists behind the main temple all branches are to be brought under the archaeological wing. This may solve the problem of violating the laws to some extent," it said.

Gudavalli May 21st, 2012, 04:34 PM Technology clicks in temple town (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/opinion/article3439355.ece)
The Tirumala model offers an exemplary lesson to governments on a people-centric approach to service delivery.
The abode of the Lord of Seven Hills is a town transformed. From a symbol of corruption in the later part of the twentieth century, it is an embodiment of excellence in government service in the twenty first century.
It was never like this before. Corruption was rampant and was at the forefront of all services offered to pilgrims and visitors.
From getting darshan of the Lord to buying the famous Tirupati laddu, money changing hands used to be the norm. Most visitors were subjected to inordinate delays and harrowing waits.
The ride up and down the hill was accident-prone, at times resulting in loss of lives. Middlemen ruled the roost and loosening one's wallet was the only way to obtain most services.
All this changed towards the end of last century. A handful of bureaucrats capitalising on the advances in information technology, along with designing of easy rules for visitors, have brought about remarkable changes in the functioning of this temple town.
That the transformation happened without a Lokpal or a Service Guarantee Bill is indeed remarkable.
E-SERVICES
More than 25 million people of various castes and creeds, including people of other faiths, visit the town every year.
According to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Board, 10 per cent of the visitors are Muslims and 5 per cent are Christians. TTD now famously claims that its acronym stands for “Tradition, Technology and Devotees”. Cost-effective technological solutions are visible everywhere.
Fingerprinting technology has been incorporated to manage the queue system for darshan of the Lord. And similar to the way users change passwords periodically to protect sensitive information, the queue system is tweaked every now and then to avoid anyone gaming it.
Darshan tickets can be booked in many cities across the country with darshan time slot printed on the ticket. Donations can be directly remitted to the temple account through e-hundi.
All tenders and procurements are executed through an e-process. Most of the auctions conducted are e-auctions including that of tonsured hair.
About 50 per cent of the energy consumed is generated through solar panels and windmills operated at the top of the hill.
Efficient garbage collection and recycling ensures the sanitation upkeep of the hill and most visitors co-operate by not littering.
Incinerators have been installed to scientifically dispose plastic and other urban waste. Sufficient toilets have been built and are well maintained to the satisfaction of users.
Water in the holy tank is constantly purified and re-circulated to make it safe for pilgrims to take a dip. Gone are the restrictions on the number of laddus one can buy.
The ride up and down the hill is accident-free and security clearance is done in a breeze. Thus far there has been no untoward terrorist incident on the hill.
URBANISATION MODEL
The Tirumala model offers an exemplary lesson for Municipalities and State Governments across the country on a people-centric approach to service delivery.
Globalisation has forced urban planners to look West for service delivery models that can be implemented in India.
With scant regard for the basic service needs of citizens, grandiose plans are put forward to convert Mumbai into a financial centre to compete with the likes of a London or a New York, Bangalore to match the might of a Singapore or a Hong Kong in terms of infrastructure, and New Delhi into an Olympic City that can rival a Beijing or a Seoul.
Rather than look to the West, urban planners should look inward. The TTD has set a shining example of providing cost-effective solutions to the satisfaction of stakeholders.
It has also shown that if local governments implement people-friendly policies, citizens will be more than willing to co-operate to make projects a grand success.
State governments and municipalities will have to deal with the biggest challenge of this century — which is urbanisation — and providing basic services to people migrating to cities at a blistering pace.
Twenty five Indian cities figure in the list of 100 fastest growing cities in the world.
Census 2011 highlights numerous shortcomings in urban areas.
Lack of toilets, mushrooming slums, traffic woes during peak hours and deteriorating air quality are creating unlivable conditions for many citizens.
Reversing this trend requires effective use of technology and an enduring partnership between politicians, bureaucrats and citizens.
And if anyone needs a model, they should look within the country, at the abode of the Lord of Seven Hills.
Gudavalli May 23rd, 2012, 11:59 AM Daiwik Hotels announces five hotels in pilgrim destinations across India (http://www.travelbizmonitor.com/daiwik-hotels-announces-five-hotels-in-pilgrim-destinations-across-india-16486)
Daiwik Hotels Pvt. Ltd. today announced the launch of its speciality chain of full service four-star hotels in prominent pilgrimage destinations across India. Daiwik Hotels aims to create a niche segment in the pilgrimage hospitality sector with its brand presence in five pilgrim locations, namely Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Dwarka (Gujarat), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Katra (Jammu & Kashmir). With an initial investment of Rs 180 crore, these five, company-owned hotels will be operational by 2015.
Commencing with its expansion plans, Daiwik Hotels is presently focusing at the southern market with its first pilgrim hotel undergoing soft pilot run in Rameswaram. Tapping opportunity in this segment, the company is aiming to be the leader in the pilgrimage hospitality circuit by expanding its capacity base to 2000 keys, informed a company release.
Commenting on the launch, Debashis Ghosal, Managing Director and CEO, Daiwik Hotels Pvt. Ltd., said, “We chose to enter pilgrimage hospitality because of the huge demand and supply gap in the country for quality branded products which are standardised in the mid-segment market. Pilgrim tourists are the largest travel group after ‘travel for social purpose’ in our country. In 2010, 740 million domestic travels were estimated out of which 440 million were pilgrimage travellers only. Also with increased development in the travel infrastructure and growing aspiration of people for better facilities, this sector has huge scope of growth. We are initially planning to launch in five prime pilgrim spots in India with a total investment of Rs 180 crores in 30 months. Apart from that we are surveying land banks in 15 other major pilgrim centers in India. We are currently beginning with our first hotel in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu which will be followed by Tirupati and the other three locations in the next two years.”

Gudavalli August 8th, 2012, 02:15 PM Going green (http://www.thehindu.com/life-and-style/kids/article3733890.ece)
TIRUPATI: Citizens have vowed to make their city greener by planting more trees.
Painting a city green is a relatively tough and painstaking task, especially when it involves little hands.
But the students of various schools in Tirupati have taken up the ambitious task of improving greenery to provide better lung space for the concrete jungle that their beloved city has become.
Though Tirupati enjoys dense forests to its north, the arterial city roads are devoid of trees on either side and the parks still need greenery.
Team effort
Nandanam Academy, a voluntary organisation embarked on the task of planting 30,000 trees in and around Tirupati, with the tagline “Go Green Tirupati”. “We have so far planted 3500 saplings by involving students, civic officials, policymakers and police authorities,” explained Nandanam founder-President Vivek Pathipati, who appealed to the students to derive inspiration from Uttar Pradesh-based environmental activist Sunderlal Bahuguna and plant as many trees as possible.
Last week, 500 saplings were distributed to the students of the TTD-run Sri Kodandarama Swamy High School, to be planted at their respective homes.
Social activist Akula Krishna Kishore urged the students to not just plant the sapling, but also shoulder the responsibility of nurturing it.
Principal Muniratnam Naidu and All India Radio (Tirupati) Station Director Malleswara Rao spoke on the importance of biodiversity conservation and the likely environmental hazards of indiscriminate felling of trees.

Gudavalli October 3rd, 2012, 01:33 AM Parakamani turns more transparent (http://www.deccanchronicle.com/channels/cities/regions/nellore/parakamani-turns-more-transparent-732)
The Parakamani (finance section of the temple) has to work almost 14 hours a day to count donations made in cash and kind as the daily collection crosses Rs.2 crore on weekends. Over the years, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has introduced precision and transparency in the counting progress, involving a minimum of 100 employees besides a devotee witness and over two dozen security and senior officials.
“We count currency notes at Tirumala (Parakamani in Srivari temple) and coins at Tirupati (TTD administration building) and on an average, we count Rs.1.5 crore rupees daily in notes and Rs.12 lakh in coins,” says a senior official of the Parakamani division.
Traditionally, all hundi bags are stored in the ‘kanuka’ room till they are taken for counting. Under surveillance of a CCTV camera and senior security personnel, the bags are opened at 7 am and the contents divided for counting and separation.
TTD employees work in four shifts of three hours each and their counting is rechecked with counting machines and finally loaded into trunks and shifted to two national bank lockers by bank employees. The TTD also faces the issue of fakes and soiled notes and fake coins dumped into the hundi.
“We keep all options open and the administration is transparent in this exercise,” says TTD EO L.V. Subrahmanyam.
The TTD gathers a large amount of foreign currencies in its hundi, these bei-ng donated by NRIs. “We collect up to Rs.2 crore in two weeks, and this is sent to the banks every Monday for exchange and for deposit in TTD accounts.”
Gold ornaments received in the hundi are also directly deposited in banks and the value transferred to the TTD account. Rice and other objects collected in the hundi are sent to TTD stores for use in day to day functioning of temple rituals.
A team of ten personnel of the TTD vigilance and security wing keep watch on a 24x7 basis through the CCTV network.
Gudavalli October 3rd, 2012, 01:34 AM Tourism gears up to pep up economy (http://www.deccanchronicle.com/channels/cities/chennai/tourism-gears-pep-economy-743)
Picture this: The travel and tourism sector is estimated to create 78 jobs per million rupees of investment, against 45 jobs in the manufacturing sector for similar investment.
Along with construction, it is one of the largest service sectors in India, providing employment to a wide spectrum of job-seekers from unskilled to specialised hands.
Given the immense employment potential and investment opportunities, tourism has emerged as one of the key drivers of the economy.
The sector has reached a crucial juncture of addressing several issues like sustainable tourism keeping in mind environmental concerns.
“Rather than tackling issues as ‘stop-gap arrangements’, we need to address the root cause of the problem,” opines Ms C. Aditi, coordinator, programmes, Equitable Tourism Options (Equations), a research, campaign and advocacy organisation.
The concept of sustainability is catching up in the country and the Union tourism ministry’s 12th Five-Year Plan outlines how tourism can be made more sustainable while addressing local concerns.
“We can draw inspiration from Karnataka’s jungle lodges and resorts, which has said a firm ‘no’ to AC on its properties,” says Ms Aditi, and adds that green buildings and water conservation would also help address the issue.
Experts say World Tourism Day should be celebrated seriously by all stakeholders. “Sustainable initiatives should not merely focus on conservation of natural assets but also ensure that taxation does not create a hole in the pocket,” explains Steve Borgia, member, advisory committee of world heritage matters under the Union culture ministry.
The report of the working group of tourism 12th Five-Year Plan (2012 – 17) of the Union tourism ministry envisages high growth potential for the sector.
Expansion of the tourism sector can lead to large-scale employment generation and poverty alleviation, it says.
The adoption of ‘pro-poor tourism’ approach will ensure that tourism contributes to poverty reduction. Besides, the ministry has outlined guidelines for various sectors in tourism.
MoT plans to cover Buddhist, Jain, Sikh and Sufi circuits offering short-duration packages of five days and long-duration packages of seven days.
About 35 religious circuits will be developed in the first phase by 2016 and the remaining 89 will be taken up during the second phase.
Among the circuits planned is the Hindu circuit covering Tirupati–Chennai-Mahabalipuram in TN and Velankanni–Santhome and St George Cathedral in Christian circuit. Sarv Dharm circuit to promote national integration will be created linking Tirupati–Chennai-Velankanni–Nagoor.
Sports tourism turns new mantra
Just as the government is toying with various forms of tourism formats, tour operators are quietly cashing in on the broader concept of sports tourism that is taking roots slowly in the country.
The idea is to offer sports adventure along with tour benefits which can become a wholesome concept for the entire family.
Interestingly, despite recession concerns, sports tourism has given an impetus to Indian industry by 30 per cent during this quarter of 2012.
Sports packages that include tickets for the event, hotel stay, air tickets along with a conducted city tour have found favour among young families.
“I get the double advantage of family plus a sports vacation along with watching my favourite stars live in action,” says Mr Siddarth Saxena of Delhi working with an MNC bank. He is visiting Lanka for the T20 World Cup match with his family.
2012 has proved a good year for operators who could conceive tour packages around major events such as Euro Cup, F1 Grand Prix, US Open and T20 Cricket World Cup.
“There has been a fantastic response to T20 matches till now. Though we are booked only for group matches, we are sure to see more enquiries coming in if Indian team moves up the ladder,“ says Mr Shashank Shekar Mishra, AVP-sports of TUI India, the official travel agent of the event ICC event.
Interestingly, this time a huge demand for T20 matches seems to be coming from corporate groups and the student community.
With a lot of holidays coming this season, there are a good number of queries from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi region. “Also, Lanka is an affordable destination,” says Mr Mishra.
The next big event that operators are eyeing is the FI championship scheduled in October last week.
“Though online travel has not been associated with sports tourism till now, we are in talks with hotels and airlines around Noida for such a package,” says Mr Sanjay Bhasin, MD of travel portal Goibibo.com. ''

Tirupati: Republican Party of India demanded TTD to release a white paper on sanction of funds to Dharma Prachara Parishat (DPP). In a press release, city secretary of RPI N Reddy Babu faulted the decision of TTD to establish exclusive accounts wing in DPP rather than depending on TTD. He stated that TTD has taken a decision to delink accounts affairs from TTD, because of accountability and answerability.
Crores of rupees of funds were misused by TTD and DPP since the inception of the latter and all facts will come out only with proper probe by a sitting judge of High Court, he stated. As per the act 30/1987 under section 112, DPP shall utilise all funds sanctioned by TTD for only publications of Hindu Dharma and Yagas, but in practice these funds are being diverted, he alleged.
As few accounts staff questioned about the auditing of Rs 6 crore, TTD officials have taken this decision to form separate accounting system in DPP, he alleged. He demanded necessary action against the erring officials for misusing the TTD funds and DPP should function under the supervision of TTD.

Gudavalli February 17th, 2013, 09:50 AM What tourism minister Chiranjeevi stands to gain from a culinary school in Tirupati (http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/what-tourism-minister-chiranjeevi-stands-to-gain-from-a-culinary-school-in-tirupati/articleshow/18534018.cms)
Cordon Bleu cooking and the temple town of Tirupati are an uneasy pairing in any sentence, but matinee idol-turned-Union tourism minister Chiranjeevi is not daunted. An Indian Culinary Institute, along the lines of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), could replace the Tirupati laddoo as that town's great contribution to India's taste buds.
Chiranjeevi's film persona is to heroically fight against the odds, but he too has succumbed to the first rule of being elected, which is to nurse your constituency with central projects. Tirupati elected him by a handsome margin in the 2009 Assembly polls, even as Palakollu in West Godavari district handed him a shock defeat. The culinary school is the town's reward from a grateful minister. Earlier a branch of this school was to come up in Yamuna Nagar, former tourism minister Kumari Selja's constituency, but land allotment for the project is still stuck in red tape.
Chiranjeevi himself dismisses all this talk. "People think it's because of that, but I feel that Tirupati is also an educational hub and has an international airport, so it is ideal for a world-class institute of this kind," he says.
POLITICAL LESSONS
Homesickness, he says, is a concept alien to him. "My father was in a transferable job all his life. I lived 15 years in Chennai while in film school and the initial years of my career, and have been in Hyderabad thereafter," he says. "I make a home where I find myself," he adds, having adjusted to Delhi weather.
When he entered politics just before the 2009 Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, he was a matinee idol comparable to Amitabh Bachchan, part of the movie royalty in Hyderabad, and his party, Praja Rajyam, was expected to pose a serious threat to YS Rajasekhara Reddy of the Congress.
That script, however, went awry. With a party organisation that was amateur at best, he got only 18 seats in the Assembly polls, and lost one of the two seats he had contested. He discovered that political wilderness can be lonely, as supporters left him in droves. Things changed only after YSR Reddy's death and the Congress's bungling on the Telangana issue, with the ruling party facing a motion of no confidence in the Assembly and many of its MLAs deserting the party fold for Jagan Mohan Reddy's outfit YSR Congress.

The air was charged with the chanting of ‘Govinda-Govinda’ by the assembled devout who at the sight of every procession rose from their seats and offered Harathi from their respective positions. Every inch of available space was occupied by the swarming public.
Meanwhile, all the parking lots were full to their capacity and the vehicles were rather parked along side of the thorough fares of the temple town eventually leading to traffic commotion at frequent intervals.
Finally, the spiritual carnival concluded with the grand procession of ‘Chandraprabha vahanam’ in the night.

Gudavalli April 11th, 2013, 05:42 PM Health resorts proposed at Srisailam, Tirupati which abound in medicinal plants (http://newindianexpress.com/states/andhra_pradesh/article1535953.ece)
To make the best use of medicinal plants available in Srisailam and Tirumala Hill ranges, officials of AYUSH have proposed health resorts in the two regions along the lines of Pancha Karma in Kerala in the hope of promoting medical tourism.
They have mooted the idea of a health resort, a park of medicinal plants, a mini-pharmacy and a spiritual centre in Srisailam and Tirupati.
The estimated cost for the same is about Rs 10 crore per centre. The reasoning is that since both Srisailam and Tirumala are pilgrim centres, it would be easy to promote them as health resorts.
These proposals have been sent to the National Medicial Plant Board and its clearance is awaited.
Few are aware that the Srisailam Hill ranges are second only to the Himalayas in terms of the availability of rare medicinal plants in the country.
Medical officer of Srisailam Dispensary, AYUSH Department, Dr VKM Lavanya said that higher officials had sent special proposals to set up Ayush health resorts at Srisailam and Tirupathi in the region. It may be noted that around 1,600 plant species are available in the Nallamala forests.
Of them, at least 400 are medicinal plants.
Devadhari, Vishamusti, Nagamusti, Tellieswari, Mayurasikha, Malleru, Chillaginjalu, Tippateega etc are some of the most popular of these 400 varieties.
The medicinal plants are spread across 60 per cent of the Nallamala forest area.
Bio-diversity research assistant M Ramesh said they were conducting research regularly and will send a report on the various species to the Zoological Survey of India for a formal announcement.
“We are researching for only identification of plants,” he said.
Explaining more about their research, he said Malleru and Chillaginjalu are used as antibiotics and also for purifying drinking water.
Nagamusti and Mayurasikha control BP and diabetes, Tippateega is very useful for recondition of lever function while Devadhari leaves are useful for increasing blood count, M Ramesh explained.
There are full fledged plants for preparing all types of Ayurvedic drugs.

Friends!
We should all try to achieve metro rail link from Tirupati to Srikalahasthi, Ubbalamadugu eco tourist center and Sricity SEZ and Pulicat lake and SHAR connecting all places of tourist and pilgrim importance so that the people visiting Tirupati are not treated as slaves by the hoteliers in Car street and also on Tirumala. They should have the option to visit many other places and enjoy their trip. Right now the vendors at Tirumala simply brutalize with the pilgrims coming with their families forcing them to loose faith in God ultimately.Other places like Kanipakam, Tiruchanur, Chandragiri, Srikalahasthi, Sullurpet, Shar, Pulicat lake, Ubbalamadugu eco tourist center should also be made attractive and reachable instead of treating the pilgrims as captive prisoners and confining them to hotels and choultries.A begining was made when Sri Mohan reddy was commissioner of Tirupati municipality but now he is retired and there's none to take it forward. Politicians at Tirupati own hotels and they have vested interests in not allowing more development.

Bapiraju and Executive Officer L.V. Subramanyam said the decision was taken as the pilgrim turnout would be at its zenith in the coming days.In the first instance, the restriction will be in force till May 31 and is likely to be extended further, depending on the flow of pilgrims. However, it is not applicable on Thursdays. The management is also contemplating to ‘slap’ the restriction even on festive occasions and on special days subject to the discretionary powers of the Executive Officer.Mr. Subramanyam appealed to VIPs to cooperate with the management.
DeadManWalking April 29th, 2013, 04:52 PM Int’l status for Tirupati airport still a dream (http://newindianexpress.com/states/andhra_pradesh/Int%E2%80%99l-status-for-Tirupati-airport-still-a-dream/2013/04/29/article1566356.ece)
Upgradation of the Tirupati domestic airport into an international airport is unlikely in the immediate future. It was way back in September, 2010 that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone for the expansion and upgradation of the airport.
Emphasising the need for the same, the Prime Minister had said, “Once this new integrated terminal is operational, the Tirupati airport will have the capacity to handle 500 domestic and 200 international flights during peak hours. The new terminal building will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. After international operations commence, pilgrims from neighbouring countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka will find it easier to come in large numbers, contributing to Tirupati’s development into a major religious-cum-tourist hub.”
All this remains on paper as the airport works have not moved an inch. The works were entrusted to a contractor, who came up with the lowest bid, and after some initial momentum, everything came to an abrupt end. Reason: The contractor claimed the soil was not viable for airport works.
However, sources said the contractor, whose name neither the Airports Authority of India (AAI) nor the district authorities revealed, quoted a very lesser amount and intentionally, stopped the works to avoid losses.
The AAI blacklisted the contractor and is set to invite fresh bids for the works. However, the delay in execution of works has resulted in escalation of the project cost. The state government on its part handed over the required land of about 700 acres for the expansion works.
“We had taken up land acquisition process in Renigunta and Yerpedu mandals and handed over 712 acres of lands to the AAI,” Tirupati RDO Y Ramachandra Reddy told Express.
The night landing facility also remains unused.

Friends,
Kindly use your good offices to get this link road sanctioned under Tourism funds.Am posting my letter to govt. of India for better appreciation of the proposal.
Sub: Formation of a link road for a stretch of 5 Km from Seshaiahgunta near Adaram Village in K.V.B.Puram Mandal to UBBALAMADUGU eco-tourism centre Water Falls in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh –Promotion of Eco-tourism and development of infrastructure -- Sanction of funds under RIDF – Prayed necessary action – Regarding.
This is to submit that there is a long pending demand for the formation of a 5Km long link road from Seshaiahgunta near Adaram Village to UBBALAMADUGU Eco-tourist centre Water Falls in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. The Panchayathraj Sub-division, Thottambedu have prepared an estimate for about Rs 3.6 crores about 2 decades ago which has to be revised in the light of new developments and the present scenario. This link road if completed under RIDF would facilitate the promotion of tourism around UBBALAMADUGU, Kalangi reservoir, Sadasiva Kona, Veyyilingala Kona, Gudimallam, Kalki Bhagawan Ashram, Kailasagiri Reservoir, Ubalamadugu reservoir apart from serving as the shortest and fastest link between Sricity SEZ where IIIT is establishing it’s second centre and Renigunta International Airport, Tirupati. Most of these places of pilgrim and tourist importance have already been included under the proposed heritage corridor sanctioned by Govt. of India recently along with the famous Pulicat Lake and Bird Sanctuary. The natural springs and water falls in UBBALAMADUGU , Ruins of British Bunglow and the 100 year old granite stair case and Siddulaiah temple attract thousands of tourists from the neighbouring Tamilnadu State. The alignment of the link road has to be redrawn taking into consideration of the formation of the new tank near Ubbalamadugu and estimated afresh. The distance between the Renigunta Airport and Sricity SEZ shall be reduced drastically to just 50 Km (Via) Kailasagiri Reservoir and Musilipedu with this link road. K.V.B.Puram Mandal which has been included in Sathyavedu assembly constituency shall have a direct and shortest link to the constituency head quarters at Sathyavedu. In view of the upcoming Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor it is very much essential to form this link road from Adaram to Ubbalamadugu Water Falls via Nereduchelama at the earliest to keep in tune with the fast emerging scenario. This will transform the economy of about 50 gram panchayaths in Varadayyapalem ,B.N.Kandriga, Thottambedu ,Yerpedu and Renigunta mandals and will be a boon to the Heritage corridor also . Hence it is hereby prayed that your kind self may be pleased to instruct the concerned authorities to take the latest developments into consideration and initiate steps to execute the formation of this link road under RIDF/tourism at the earliest in coordination with the Tourism, Wild life management circle, Tirupati for the kind act of which the people of this part of the country would be grateful to your kind self throughout their lives.

By switching to green technologies, the temple cuts its carbon emissions and earns a carbon offset, or credit, which they can sell.
Carbon credits
The Kyoto Protocol's clean development mechanism, an international tool created to fight global warming, gives developed countries incentives to invest in clean technologies and projects in developing countries
In return, the companies from the developed countries get carbon credits for meeting their emission reduction targets, while the projects in the developing country get the capital and technology
Badal Shaw is the managing director of Gadhia Solar Energy Systems, which has set up the solar cookers. He estimates that this has resulted in a reduction of more than 1,350kgs of green house gases in the atmosphere.
"This was the first project to get a gold standard certification - it's a registered project and it is issuing carbon credits," he says.
"From a monetary value, carbon being a tradable commodity - the prices keeps going up and down ... we sold the carbon credits of this and various other projects to the German government."http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/58187000/jpg/_58187832_solarcookers624.jpg
