JAKARTA: A Premier Shopping Destination

Jakarta stands out as perhaps the most passionate, bustling, magnetic city in Asia. It is impressive at first sight and impossible to forget, and one feels compelled to return whenever the opportunity arises. Jakarta is not only remarkably hospitable but also offers electrifyingly good shopping.

Economic decision-makers in Indonesia quickly cottoned on to something that their counterparts in other countries with restrictive trade regulations seem not to have realised: the importance of retail trade for the economic and tourist development of a city. As a result, Jakarta has been strongly promoted as a destination for fashion shopping, through measures such as a high-profile Jakarta Fashion Week, Indonesia Fashion Week, Jakarta Fashion Festival and major discounts on specific dates such as Jakarta Great Sale, and has thus emerged as a dynamic, fantastic city for shopping and nightlife.

Indeed, it has been a positive influence in the spectacular growth in interest in luxury and fashion in Indonesia, best reflected in Jakarta. 
The distinguishing feature of Jakarta is the sheer number of high-quality stores to be found in its shopping malls: such a concentration is to be found nowhere else in the region. Here, the top brands do not open independent stores on the high street as they do elsewhere in the world: rather, they are all to be found together in the city's mega malls.

There are several distinct shopping areas, which are in continuous expansion throughout the city. As Jakarta continues to grow the appearance of new districts leads also to the opening up of new shopping areas where you can find cutting edge luxury and fashion stores.

Luxury shopping is centred on the city’s hotels and great shopping malls around Thamrin, Kuningan, SCBD and Senayan district, Jakarta’s main shopping street. The first major mall on Thamrin district is Plaza Indonesia, which contains major fashion stores and the most exclusive luxury brands in a large mall featuring various styles, from Giorgio Armani and Lanvin to Christian Louboutin and Givenchy, combining different styles in a careful selection. Just opposite, The Grand Indonesia, a gigantic, modern mall to host the best brands: the Indonesia branch of Seibu, also feature leading domestic and international brands such as Chanel, Tumi, Aigner, Banana Republic along with a select range of high-street stores, such as Zara, Forever 21, Cotton On, Topshop and Topman.

Further south, the famous Kuningan district. Until just a few years ago, luxury shopping in Jakarta was centred exclusively on Thamrin or Senayan district, while Kuningan had a more urban style. But things have changed radically in recent times, and as major brands have moved in, this area has become a growing focal point for fashion. The benchmark street for malls in the Kuningan district is Satrio "Shopping Belt" Road, an arterial road running from east to west which is home to Kota Kasablanka, Kuningan City, Mal Ambasador and Ciputra World Jakarta; Jakarta's most eagerly awaited retail landmark. So far, of all the malls in the area, Kota Kasablanka certainly has the highest number of fashion stores. Alongside urban styles, tried and tested brands such as Forever New, Swarovski, Sephora and Suite Blanco have set up stores there. Just a few metres further west, stand the renowned Kuningan City, featuring Versace Jeans, Armani Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger and Boss Orange.

The Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), midway between Thamrin and Senayan district, offers only one point of interest for luxury and fashion lovers, albeit an excellent one: Pacific Place, one of the city's benchmark shopping malls. Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Valentino, Hermes, Tod’s, Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, Bvlgari are among the many names to be found there. The true scale of the mall becomes clear when you realize that it contains one of the world's most luxurious Department Stores: Galeries Lafayette.

Heading south to Senayan district shoppers can find one of the most beautiful, most luxurious malls: the Plaza Senayan which stands out not only for its classic style but also for its fine luxury selections, which features brands such as Dior, Roberto Cavalli, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Sergio Rossi, Emilio Pucci, Paul Smith and Thomas Pink just to name a few. Just opposite the mall stands the Senayan City shopping centre, which also features an interesting selection of major names such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Salvatore Ferragamo, Max & Co. and BCBG MaxAzria.

A little further south, it is also well worth visiting Pondok Indah Mall and Gandaria City, which offers an extraordinary selection, with top brands such as Hugo Boss, Aigner, Versace Collection, Mango Touch, Furla, Longchamp, Karen Millen, Massimo Dutti, Coast London, Thomas Sabo just to name a few.

The city continues to expand in commercial terms, with the opening of the Ciputra World and St.Moritz in 2013 as the latest landmark event in a country that is undergoing an international boom and is well worth getting to know.

New Look opens first store in Singapore

On your marks, get set, go - to a new fast-fashion chain that has burst onto the local scene. The chain is Britain-based New Look and it is set to give established fast-fashion names like Topshop, Zara and Mango a run for their money.

New Look's first shop opened here earlier this month at Ion Orchard.

The 8,000 sq ft store is spread over two levels and offers up-to-the-minute clothes, shoes and accessories at low prices.

Check out its floral frocks in on-trend peplum shapes and punk-meets-the-1980s structured jackets coming in two weeks' time. You can pick up a tank top for as low as $9.90 for an instant treat that does not hurt the purse.

But how will it stack up against the cheap and chic names here who have already built up a following?

Sure, New Look offers runway trends at pocket-friendly prices, just like competitor Topshop, for example. However, it says its prices tend to be about 30 per cent cheaper, thanks to a strategy of being trendy but not too ahead of the curve, combined with an emphasis on a fast turnover of products.

The trends it offers are also available in wider varieties than other more fashion-forward labels. If checked shirts are the hot item of the week, for instance, it will offer 12 variations rather than the two available at fellow high-street brands.

New Look's international retail operations manager, Mark Eve, 29, told Urban in London: 'We are not fashion leaders. But just when the trend is at its peak, when all the celebrities are wearing these things in their music videos or on the streets, we will have them in stores.'

New Look is one of the fastest fast-fashion chains around: The process of designing a garment to producing it to getting it into stores can take as little as a week, as was the case when it churned out Michael Jackson T-shirts right after his death on June 26.

Stocks are refreshed daily in British stores and the brand allows its products to remain in them for at most five weeks.

In Singapore, new stocks will arrive weekly.

Things are going to get even more fast and furious by the middle of next year. By then, new products will likely land here three weeks before they hit the British market.

How? The brand's distribution centre in Singapore was set up last year, serving stores here and in the Middle East.

Non-British stores currently order stock months in advance, so they do not get the wares as fast as British stores. But by next year, the facility here will be the core distribution centre for all stores.

Eve says: 'We are a volume retailer, so we can't afford to wait till the customers are ready to embrace a trend. We have the trend lined up just as they are ready for it and looking to buy.'

He adds: 'We try to get our design people to work based on gut instinct. The team has an understanding of what's going on globally so they can forecast trends and colour palettes and we want to do it better than anyone else in the market.'

Even in the realm of celebrity collaborations, an important feature for fast-fashion labels, it tries to look for up-and-coming stars rather than established ones.

British singer Lily Allen, for example, designed a capsule collection of prom dress-style frocks in 2007, just as she was on the verge of hitting the big time.

'We target celebrities that don't have a history of designing, but have a unique fashion point about them. The key is that our customers must be able to relate to them and see them as a best-friend figure,' says Eve.

The brand, he adds, also gets 'a huge uplift as the celebrity we choose gets more popular'.

UP TO SPEED

For a fast-fashion brand that was established 40 years ago, New Look has taken its own sweet time in coming to South-east Asia.

The store at Ion marks its entry into this market, but it is set to get up to speed quickly. The plan is to have 12 stores here within the next three years and a further eight in Malaysia over the next five years.

'There is a wealth of other British competitors in Singapore which have been relatively successful,' Eve says of the decision to enter Singapore.

'We plan to use it as our bridgehead to take us into other Asian markets like China, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.'

It is all part of the brand's self-professed ambition to 'become the world's favourite value fashion brand'.

To achieve that, there are a number of milestones it has to go through, including opening about 300 franchised stores in international locations.

It already has 613 stores in Britain and Ireland and 57 stores in overseas markets such as Europe and the Middle East.

The brand will also soon take over five stores in Britain occupied by bookseller Borders, including a four-storey space in Oxford Street, one of Europe's busiest, densest shopping avenues, adding a further 80,000 sq ft to its trading space by the end of this year.

Indeed, New Look's flagship store, which opened in 2003, is in Oxford Street. It has a prime position at the start of the street which, unlike other famous retail avenues known for their luxury labels, is the headquarters of fast fashion.

In a competitive business, New Look is looking good. For the financial year ending March 28, total sales jumped by 14.9 per cent to &pound1.32 billion (S$3.16 billion), a growth rate that Eve describes as 'better than typical'.

The key has been the recession.

'We have found new customers shopping with us as their purse strings have tightened,' he says.

'They are looking for other sources to feed their wardrobe and are not prepared to lose their fashion credibility.

'The challenge for the next 18 months, as we start to come out of the recession, is to continue to hold on to these new customers.'

250 STYLES IN 1 STORE

In Britain, it is the market leader for women's footwear for women aged 16 to 44. There are about 250 styles available in a typical New Look store.
38 per cent of the British female population aged 12 and above, or more than nine million women, have bought a womenswear item from New Look in the past year.
The average age of the female New Look customer in Britain is 33. The average age of male customers is 23.
Besides its regular range of womenswear, New Look also offers a teen range called Generation and regular limited-edition ranges, where pieces are produced in smaller quantities such as 400, instead of the more typical 10,000. Its Inspire range for sizes 18 to 26 and kidswear range are currently not available in Singapore.
Celebrities who have fronted New Look campaigns include singer Lily Allen (Picture 5), actress Drew Barrymore and model Agyness Deyn (Picture 6). Look out for an upcoming Idol collection that will be fronted by two established entertainment industry figures known for their rock 'n' roll take on fashion.
Menswear was added to the brand five years ago and is currently available in 40 per cent of New Look's British stores. Last year's collection was designed by Giles Deacon, who was named British Fashion Designer of the Year 2006 at the prestigious British Fashion Awards for his own label, Giles.
My Look, a social networking site for selected British customers, was launched recently and is one of the ways the brand susses out the trends and celebrities its customers are keen on.

Love the new DVF store! Reminiscent of the one in Soho, New York, down to the wall art by the window display. Plaza Senayan is getting more fabulous even with strong competition from Senayan City across the street.

Indeed! Plaza Senayan is getting more and more fabulous each day. I reckon there are still 7 more lots vacant for new tenancies on the ground floor. Definitely, new luxury brands and new concepts stores are joining its line-up of luxury shopping at the mall, some of them are slated to be unveiled very soon. Meanwhile, Karen Millen will have new location and new shop concepts at level 1 (next to Desigual).

I think Jakarta is next to Singapore in SEA when it comes to the sheer volume and quality of luxury presence. Keep it up guys, Indonesians are good spenders!

Indonesia will become the largest luxury market in Southeast Asia over the next few years, Ravi Thakran, LVMH’s head for South Asia, South East Asia & Middle East told CNBC.

According to him, Indonesian consumers currently buy their luxury goods mostly from Hong Kong and Singapore, but Indonesia’s political stability and improving retail infrastructure will help boost the country’s luxury sector.

“I really see a new ‘I’ emerging in BRICS. Going forward, we believe the Indonesian market will be one of the big surprises,” said Thakran, who added that the country remains an under-penetrated market for high-end goods.

Luxury Goods Firms Prepare for Indonesia's Coming of Age

With GDP growing at a rate of 6.5 per cent last year Indonesia has one of the fastest growing economies in the world and its luxury goods market is expanding rapidly.

When Ravi Thakran, the head of south Asia, south-east Asia and the Middle East at LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton said that Indonesia was on course to become South-East Asia's biggest luxury goods market, the country's rejuvenation suddenly looked a reality.


9,000 millionaires

Wealth management company Julius Baer claim that the number of millionaires in Indonesia is growing at a quicker rate than in any other country in Asia. By 2015, Indonesia will have 99,000 millionaires, three times the number it does now.

Consultancy outfit Capgemini claim that every day Indonesia welcomes 16 new dollar millionaires to its club of high net worth individuals, Reuters said.

"The middle class is gaining wealth and becoming extremely rich," Jan Richards, managing director and market manager for south-east Asia at JP Morgan, told the news agency.

"I would say that's the growth market now, a million dollars (in assets) and up."


The new 'I' in BRIC

This increasing wealth is fuelling an increasingly vibrant luxury goods market in Indonesia, and companies such as LVMH, Hermes and PPR, all stocks that feature on the CHIC conviction buy list, are increasingly seeing the south-east Asian nation as a new growth market to rival the traditional BRIC economies.

"I really see a new 'I' emerging in BRICS," Thakran told CNBC.

"Going forward, we believe the Indonesian market will be one of the big surprises."

Hermes is another luxury brand thriving in the country, with two Indonesian women recently writing a book, Hermes Temptation, which documents the brands stratospheric rise in the Indonesian capital Jakarta and beyond. The French handbag maker's birkin bags are some of the most coveted luxury items among Indonesia's growing upper class and regularly sell for between $5,000 and $50,000.

Elsewhere in Jakarta, the country's most prestigious shopping malls are home to Louis Vuitton and Bulgari stores and more are set to follow.

Yet all of this is happening despite a luxury goods tax that adds as much as 200 per cent on to the price of the most prized items.

For French luxury group PPR, that includes the likes of Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Gucci in its stable, the luxury tax is enough to put it off direct operations in the country, irrespective of the success of its franchise stores, which are witnessing sales growth in double figures.


Coming of age

While the Indonesian luxury market may not yet be able to stand toe-to-toe with the likes of China or Japan, it is certainly gaining momentum and if growth continues at its current pace it will not be long before it is a major destination for the world's biggest brands.

There are already signs that this is happening and should government economic policy create more favourable conditions for foreign companies then this will certainly happen.

All of the signs are positive for this too. In a recent interview with the Jakarta Post, Suryo Bambang Sulisto, the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that making the country as attractive as possible to investors was key.

Dominion's Sector Analyst Frederick Baccanello concluded, “Indonesia, with a middle class population nearly four times the size of the total UK population, is one of Asia most promising luxury consumption stories."

He added, "It has long been on CHIC’s radar screen as the Indonesian middle class will only increase in size and wealth thereby significantly increasing their consumption of discretionary items and luxuries.”

Soal nama2 brand, AFAIK sih belum confirmed walaupun penjajakan sudah relatif banyak. Nanti kalau sudah ada yang confirmed saya akan share. FYI minggu lalu ada petinggi H&M region Asia Pacific dari Hongkong dan pimpinan SEA dari Spore bersama-sama pihak Lotte berkunjung ke site melihat calon lokasi. Sudah agak fokus ke sayap sisi kiri dari pintu utama di Lv. 3.

Lotte Shopping Avenue terdiri dari stand-alone store / mono-brand store dan department store. Mungkin yang mereka maksudkan bahwa brand2 dimaksud bukan bagian dari deptstore? Atau mereka tidak menginginkan bagian di luar stand-alone store itu disebut deptstore? Sebenarnya sih ini hanya istilah yang umum kita kenal. Tapi memang konsepnya berbeda dengan mall-mall yang ada di Jakarta saat ini dimana keseluruhan area mall-nya merupakan Lotte Shopping Avenue (mereka sebut demikian), mirip konsep Seibu jaman dulu di Pasaraya. Gila, jika list diatas semuanya confirmed nantinya, level & kelas Ciputra World Jakarta (Lotte Shopping Avenue) sudah pasti diatas Grand Indonesia, Pacific Place, Plaza Senayan dan Senayan City. Artinya, Ciputra World Jakarta bisa disejajarkan dengan Plaza Indonesia, meskipun masih lebih massive Plaza Indonesia in terms of luxury item.


I absolutely agree! If CWJ managed to get all those brands in its mall, it will be on the same level of Plaza Indo. I mean, just by having Tory Burch, Dior with its new backlit LED quilted pattern facade, the Armani House, Prada, Miu Miu, Hermes and Louis Vuitton Maison alone will elevate CWJ's luxury to stratosphere since CWJ does have massive space with at least 10,000 sq feet for each of its luxury boutiques.

I just have this gut feeling that the next Louis Vuitton in Jakarta will be a Maison since the capital city of the largest luxury market in South East Asia, as has been ordained by the LVMH fashion gods themselves, should be bestowed a Louis Vuitton Maison. :cheers:

Swiss luxury goods group Richemont reported sales increased 29 per cent to €8.87 billion (SFr10.65billion) for the year 2011-12 ended March 31. Net profit rose 43 per cent to €1.54 billion.

In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the group had achieved strong sales growth in all segments and regions, despite volatile economic conditions.

The group, which has a stable of watch and designer jewellery companies that include Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC and Panerai, employs some 7,000 people at 20 sites in Switzerland.

In the past year it embarked on an aggressive expansion plan, employing 800 additional staff in Switzerland, and opening 90 new boutiques around the world. It plans to open 70 more in the coming year in emerging markets such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, China and the Middle East. :banana:

“Our jewellery and watch companies reported record turnover and profits, despite the appreciation of the Swiss franc, rising prices for precious raw materials and production costs,” chief executive officer Johann Rupert said.

Rupert said the group expected continued growth in the Chinese luxury market, and said Richemont had only marginally been affected by the downturn in Europe because of the large numbers of Chinese who purchased luxury products in European boutiques.

IMHO, konsep Kuningan City tidak ada perubahan meski ada MEZZO. MEZZO hanya berupa mini anchor (mini Department Store), tidak se-massive Sogo atau Seibu. In term of size, kurang lebih sama dengan Marks & Spencer / Alun Alun Indonesia, hanya untuk MEZZO formatnya Duplex.

Zara Plaza Indonesia konsepnya memang 100% baru. Desain Façade-nya berbeda dengan desain sebelumnya, meski tidak ekstrim perubahannya (namun tetap mengadopsi konsep Zara store terbaru). Kemudian desain interiornya yang sangat mencolok perbedaan konsepnya, terlihat jauh lebih bright dan fresh (banyak instalasi LED), serta layout nya pun berubah, untuk TRF sekarang menempati bagian Zara Kids dan Zara Kids menempati bagian TRF yang lama. Posisi kasir juga berubah, tidak dibagian tengah, tapi di belakang dengan LED ornament. Di Asia Tenggara sekalipun, belum pernah saya lihat konsep interior Zara yang sebagus di Zara Plaza Indonesia.

Plus, di Plaza Indonesia memang ada kebijakan untuk store yang sudah berusia 5 tahun atau setiap 5 tahun sekali diwajibkan untuk mengganti dan merenovasi storenya dengan konsep yang terbaru. :)

Soal ZARA waktu beberapa hari lalu saya ke sana, saya hanya noticed lebih terang dan cerah tapi saya pikir biasa saja karena masih baru. Dominasi interior masih warna off-white seperti ZARA lainnya, lay-out nya pun serasa familiar. Mungkin karena itu saya jadi tidak memperhatikan terlalu detail :). Kalau facade memang saya langsung noticed ada perubahan meskipun tidak terlalu significant / ekstrim.

1 Ambiance Entrance terdapat dominasi besi besi warna Hitam, Ukuran Window Display lebih besar hampir 1 meter..Font signage Logo ZARA mengecil dan jenis font (sedikit Italicize) yang berbeda dari yang pertama

2.Interior store Concept All Fixture semua diganti dengan konsep baru yang lebih didominasi warna abu abu da broken white dengan sedikit adopt iron rustiq, bagian wall display diganti dengan panel kolom tertutup berwarna abu abu sedangkan yang lama didominasi warna coklat tua kombinasi silver chrom dan yang paling berbeda banget adalah dibagian Ladies Dept khususnya TRF layout baru konsep wall display juga baru dengan konsep display modern futuristic..

selebihnya sudah disebutkan bro H&M..Overall sih saya lebih suka yang lama krn terlihat lebih luas dan penempatan display produk langsung terlihat dr jauh sementara konsep yang baru lebih terlihat elegance dan private produk tidak langsung terlihat dr luar padahal pintu etrance lebih lebar sedikit dr sebelumnya hal ini karena effect dr design panel kolom dari wall display dan adanya partisi kolom utk display ditengah2 toko sehingga mnutup bagian2 display produk dalam toko//tetapi secara design jauh lebih bagus dr yang lama...

Unfortunately, Harvey Nichols has been closed down. The store was well designed and they had very good collections.

Prada is opening a massive flagship at Ciputra World Jakarta after the opening of Prada Global Store at Plaza Indonesia. Y-3 is also opening more stores at Kuningan City, and somewhere else I can't remember. Paul Smith, Dior, Tory Burch, Coach and Miu Miu are also opening at CWJ.

I definitely agree with Herve Leger and I would throw in Tom Ford in your list as well too. :)

Sephora is opening 20 stores in Indonesia over the next year, so far it's opening soon in Kemang Village and Kota Kasablanka.

Yup, Coach sudah diambil alih oleh Kanmo Retail Group dari Valiram Group. Jadi saat ini Kanmo Retail Group tengah menyiapkan lokasi Coach boutique yang baru. Sampai saat ini masih belum ditentukan apakah Coach akan tetap mengambil lokasi yang sama di Plaza Senayan atau pindah lokasi, oleh karena itulah hoarding Coach new concept store masih belum terpasang.

IMO, mengingat butik Masari disebelah Coach juga telah ditutup, kemungkinan Coach akan tetap dilokasi yang sama dengan space yang lebih besar (mengambil juga space ex-Masari). CMIIW..

Goyard will open its first SEA store in Singapore, with the first store slated for opening at Ngee Ann City Q4 of 2013.

Galeries Lafayette to open five to seven overseas stores in 3 years

The Galeries Lafayette group plans to open five to seven overseas stores in 3 years abroad by 2015 with the first expansion location to be chosen is Jakarta, Indonesia. The South East Asian flagship will open in the first quarter of 2013, Mr. Delaoutre said on Friday.

"A total of five to seven Galeries Lafayette new flagships will open outside of France by 2015," said Paul Delaoutre, the Director General of the Department Stores industry group.

The group plans to open two stores in Jakarta, as well as outlets in Beijing, Doha and Istanbul, without giving details on the location of two other stores that could open within three years.

"The first store will open in the first quarter of 2013 in Jakarta, followed by Beijing at the end of first quarter or early second," said a spokesman for the group told AFP. Stores in Istanbul and Doha to open in 2015.

Galeries Lafayette opened their first store abroad in Berlin in 1996, followed by Dubai in 2009 and Casablanca in 2011. The group also has 59 stores in France, including its massive flagship store on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris.

"Drawn by the luxurious image of Haussmann, the outlets that we open beyond our borders receive very encouraging results. They demonstrate the full potential of the luxury brand in world class international markets," said Mr. Delaoutre.

Space CHARRIOL yang sekarang sepertinya akan ditempati oleh Luxury brand lain yang membutuhkan space yang cukup besar. Karena TAG Heuer yang berlokasi tepat disebelah CHARRIOL juga direlokasi.

IMO, space ex-TAG Heuer dan CHARRIOL akan digabung dan menjadi satu space yang cukup besar! :banana:

Btw, baru dapet kabar bahwa jadwal pembukaan LOTTE SHOPPING AVENUE (Mall at Ciputra World Jakarta), mundur lagi jadwal pembukaannya. Tadinya direncanakan pada bulan maret 2013, kemudian kabar terbaru mundur lagi menjadi bulan Mei 2013. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah perlu sedikit waktu untuk proses perijinan. :nuts:

Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, hampir dapat dipastikan bahwa Galeries Lafayette akan buka terlebih dahulu awal 2013 (Q-1/2013) daripada LOTTE Department Store (Q-2/2013).

If we do the math, Paul Delaoutre, the Director General of Galeries Lafayette, specifically said five to seven stores in three years. Two stores in Jakarta, followed by Beijing, Doha then Istanbul!
i believe the second store might not open until 2015 (?) coz they want to observe the first store first, anyway good to know that they intend to open the 2nd GL here :cheers:

Unfortunately at the moment, Columbia Sportswear Company at Plaza Indonesia (located in front of Muji), is not open yet and will be opening soon.

You can find Columbia Sportswear Company at Pondok Indah Mall 2 in South Jakarta, about 13 km to the south (driving time: approximately 35 minutes). It's available at their respective counter inside SOGO department store – Pondok Indah Mall 2.

The nearest SOGO in your area is Sogo Plaza Senayan. But i'm not really sure if it's available at Sogo Plaza Senayan or Seibu Grand Indonesia or not.

Karena gerai Parkson di St.Moritz ini merupakan gerai pertama, jadi confirmed Parkson tidak masuk di Grand Indonesia (rumour sebelumnya). Grand Indonesia saat ini tengah mempersiapkan area east mall (4 level) untuk dijadikan department store, yang kemungkinan besar IMO yang masuk ke Grand Indonesia adalah Central Department Store.

Bahkan foodcourtnya nggak bagus, cuma menang di view Gedung Opera dan Eiffel Tower. Dome-nya nggak bagus2 amat. Apalagi sehari sebelumnya dari Harrods, makin drop-lah....

20 June 2012 – The H&M Group’s sales including VAT increased by 12 percent in local currencies in the first six months of the financial year. Sales in comparable units increased by 3 percent. Converted into SEK, sales excluding VAT amounted to SEK 59,491 m (52,135), an increase of 14 percent.


In addition to the five new markets that H&M will open in 2012, H&M plans to open stores in several new markets in 2013. The markets where store contracts for 2013 have so far been signed are Estonia and Indonesia.


Karl-Johan Persson, CEO commented, ““The year started well and the positive trend continued in the second quarter. In the second quarter we saw strong sales and profitability development, with a profit increase of 23 percent. The spring collections have been well received by our customers as shown by our increased market share in a fashion retail market that continues to be challenging. H&M’s attractive customer offering is appreciated by customers in all our 44 markets, in big cities as well as small cities – and in both countries with strong economic growth and countries with a tough macroeconomic climate.


Our expansion plan remains intact. We plan to open around 275 new stores net during the full-year. We continue to open new stores in all current markets and we will add five new markets during the year: Bulgaria, Mexico, Latvia, Malaysia and Thailand. In addition, online sales will be launched in the autumn in the US, the world’s largest online market.”

Kalo yang H&M under management sendiri itu emang bener. Tapi kalo yang mau di bangunan sendiri kayaknya engga deh, tadinya H&M mau buka di Grand Indo, tapi GI cuman kasih one floor doang soalnya rencananya mau di split sama Parkson, dan H&M ga setuju akhirnya pilih CWJ, maka-nya buka-nya early Spring 2013, padahal kalo H&M pilih GI udah buka tahun ini.

Tapi kalo yang mau di bangunan sendiri kayaknya engga deh, tadinya H&M mau buka di Grand Indo, tapi GI cuman kasih one floor doang soalnya rencananya mau di split sama Parkson, dan H&M ga setuju akhirnya pilih CWJ, maka-nya buka-nya early Spring 2013, padahal kalo H&M pilih GI udah buka tahun ini.

Yup, betul.. Salah satu penyebab H&M tidak jadi buka tahun 2012 ini adalah karena tidak tersedianya space yang sesuai dengan kriteria H&M di shopping mall yang ada sekarang. Makanya baru pertengahan 2013 H&M akan buka di Jakarta setelah survey beberapa tempat, salah satunya Ciputra World Jakarta dan atau Pondok Indah Street Gallery.

Prada will be the third international luxury brand to directly operate in Indonesia (after Louis Vuitton and Dior), with the first store in Indonesia planned for opening this Fall, within the Plaza Indonesia Mall in the heart of Jakarta. Fendi, Max Mara and Michael Kors are also due to open stores in Jakarta, both within the Senayan Plaza Mall, by the end of this year. For Fendi and Max Mara, these will be their second stores in Jakarta, each with a previous store at Plaza Indonesia Mall. For Michael Kors, this opening will be the market entry into Indonesia. Fendi, Max Mara and Michael Kors mono-brand stores will be operated in franchising by local partners.

French premium department store Galleries Lafayette has announced plans to open store on three floors by mid 2013, within the Pacific Place Mall. The Galleries Lafayette Department Store in Jakarta will be operated in franchising by a local investors.

Montblanc will expand its store size by Fall at its existing store at Senayan Plaza Mall, while Vertu is expected to open a new mono-brand by the end of the year, also at Senayan Plaza Mall. The Time Place, the leading luxury watches retailer in Indonesia will open a new concept store at Senayan Plaza Mall, with dedicated corners for several top brands, including one for Hermes watches.

Kalau tidak ada tembok penghadang, Mitra Adiperkasa bakal meresmikan salah satu pusat belanja tersohor di Prancis yakni Galeries Lafayette. Pusat belanja ini bakal hadir di Jakarta tepatnya di Pacific Place Mall.

Salah satu orang dalam di Mitra Adiperkasa mengiyakan kabar ini. "Kami memang berencana bakal membuka Galeries Lafayette," katanya tanpa memerinci lebih lanjut.

Yang pasti kehadiran Galeries Lafayette bakal menambah panjang daftar department store yang Mitra Adiperkasa kelola. Selain Galeries Lafayette, MAP juga mengelola Sogo, Seibu dan Debenhams.

Sebagai gambaran, Galeries Lafayette terkenal sebagai departement store penjaja barang lux. Gerainya dibuka di lokasi premium di Prancis, Berlin, Casablanca, Dubai, dan China.

Menurut Handaka Santosa, penasehat di Asosiasi Pengusaha Ritel Indonesia (Aprindo), kehadiran Galeries Lafayette di Jakarta bisa memberi pilihan bagi konsumen kelas menengah dan atas akan produk-produk yang berkelas. "Jadi konsumen tidak perlu lagi pergi ke luar negeri untuk sekedar berbelanja," katanya kepada KONTAN, kemarin.

Ia pun yakin kehadiran pusat belanja yang menyajikan produk-produk global teratas ini bakal dilirik konsumen dalam negeri. Terutama adalah orang Indonesia yang sudah merasakan tinggal di luar negeri. Baik itu untuk urusan sekolah, pekerjaan atau memang ada sanak famili. Terutama di tempat toko ini ada, terutama di negara Eropa.

Jadi menurutnya, toko papan atas ini bakal menyasar dua segmen yaitu konsumen domestik dari kalangan menengah atas dan para turis. "Apalagi menurut catatan Bank Dunia, jumlah kelas menengah di Indonesia terus tumbuh," katanya. Bagi MAP, kehadiran Galeries Lafayette bakal menggantikan Harvey Nichols yang sudah mereka tutup.

Menurut Handaka, Galeries Lafayette bukan lah satu-satunya department store asing yang bakal hadir di Indonesia, khususnya Jakarta. Ia menyebut salah satu department store terbesar di Thailand, yakni Central Department Store juga bakal membuka cabang di Jakarta.

I seriously cannot wait for GL to open and the luxury brands they will carry! For the kids section, if all the luxury for kids line that have opened at Bandung Supermall is any indication, Lafayette Enfant should carry Chloe Kids, Armani Junior, Young Versace, & Boss Kidswear.

I wish they would also include Lafayette Gourmet in the mix though, I mean, their homemade sorbet, freshly baked goods, and selections of fresh produced are delish!

The newly re-opened Jakarta flagship store of GUCCI follows the new concept of Creative Director, Frida Giannini. Giannini’s concept, which employs open space, warm luxurious materials and natural light to spectacular effect, is symbolising Gucci’s 21st century contemporary look. An impressive façade looking onto Jakarta’s Asia Afrika Street uses tone-on-tone bronze metal enhanced with a special LED lighting effect. The signature Gucci materials such as rosewood and marble are complemented by fluted glass, polished gold, smoked mirrors and glass, evoking the elegance and luxury of the Art Deco. The Gucci Jakarta flagship includes ready to wear, bags, shoes, accessories, luggage, jewellery, watches as well as the Gucci Baby collection.

^^^ indeed, It is not matching. Gucci's golden facade is not in harmony with the appearance of Sency's glassy green. Maybe it's high time for Sency to change its look to adjust with Gucci's (and not vice versa).

I absolutely love it! Senayan City should have more of these majestic luxury facades, they could relocate Starbucks and make it a luxury boutique with a street facing facade. I hope other luxury shopping malls take note of Senayan City's pioneering street facing luxury facade of colossal proportion.

Central Retail Corporation (CRC) is making inroads into the regional retail battlefield with plans to open its first Central Department Store in Jakarta in 2014.

CRC's announcement follows news that Aeon, the Japanese retail firm, plans to open many retail stores in the region, including in Indonesia.

While Aeon will develop its own shopping complexes, CRC will lease retail space at the Grand Indonesia mall in Jakarta for its Central Department Store, the same strategy it used when entering China.

Chief executive Tos Chirathivat said hia company recently signed a lease agreement with PT Grand Indonesia for 21,000 square metres of space on MH Thamrin Road, the thriving business district where Selamat Datang Monument sits.

The entire shopping complex consists of the Grand Indonesia mall, a 56-storey office building, a five-star hotel and luxury residences covering total space of 600,000 sq m. More than 1.3 million customers visit the shopping mall each month."Opening the store in Indonesia will be an important milestone for both Central Department Store and CRC," said Mr Tos.

The Central Department Store in Indonesia will be CRC's fourth in Asia outside Thailand. CRC has three department stores in China and also owns 11 in Italy under the La Rinascente brand.

Mr Tos said Central is aiming at both Jakarta customers and expats.

Mr Tos said five more stores will open in Jakarta and Surabaya by 2017, each costing 600 million baht.

No racy lingerie or sexy bras here, initially the stores will only sell perfume and accessories, which is Victoria’s Secret’s strategy when entering new markets. The store offers a wide range of beauty products including fragrances, body care and make up. Shoppers will also have access to Victoria's Secret branded accessories including bags, luggage, small leather goods and sunglasses which are exclusive to the Victoria’s Secret beauty & accessories stores. No word about lingerie!

But just having the chic boutique grace the shores of our capital is enough for us.

Fyi, kemaren ke Plaza Indonesia, dan hoarding Prada berubah jadi putih dengan tulisan "Gucci Flagship Store"? Change of plan? Atau mungkin karena Prada considering for their store at CWJ? Dan katanya sih, setelah nanti pindah ke depan, Gucci store yang sekarang akan jadi perluasan dari Lanvin.

oh ya? wah sedih deh soalnya sebelumnya berharap ada 2 prada di jakarta, PI dan CWJ :ohno:

Prada yang di CWJ kalo diliat dari blueprint-nya gede-nya ampir 10000 sq ft (900 to 1000 m2) seperti ION, plus CWJ high ceiling on the luxury floor (4,6-4,8 m) gives a lot of design flexibility and innovation for Prada since after all this flagship is managed by Prada S.p.A. and designed by Italian architect Roberto Bachiocchi himself so the flagship design has to be visionary and world class to lure Indonesia's well heeled known to have the most discerning worldly taste.

In any case, this is good news for Gucci and Lanvin. Massive Lanvin and Gucci flagships at Plaza Indo! Plus this will certainly make CWJ be the next prominent luxury haven after Plaza Indo, Plaza Senayan, Pacific Place, Senayan City and Grand Indo.
