Araneta firm bares P2.5-b hotel in QC

by Jenniffer B. Austria | Manila Standard Today | Monday | Posted May 7th, 2012

Novotel Manila Araneta Center, a P2.5-billion hotel venture between the Araneta Group and Accor, the leading hotel operator in the Asia-Pacific, will soon rise in Quezon City.

Araneta Center vice president for marketing Cecile Marvilla said in an interview following the first pouring of concrete ceremony for the upper-midscale Novotel Manila Araneta Center that the construction of the hotel was on track for completion by early 2014.

The 415-room hotel is located within the 90-hectare Araneta Center, a commercial, entertainment and multipurpose complex owned and managed by the Araneta Group in Cubao, Quezon City.

Marvilla said the Novotel, which will be the first deluxe businessman’s hotel development in Quezon City, will cater to local and foreign businessmen as well as the middle-income market.

Its strategic location at the intersection of two major thoroughfares–Edsa and Aurora Boulevard–and major mass railway lines will position the hotel as the preferred venue for product launches, political summits, weddings and conventions in Quezon City

Once completed, the hotel will boast of a 600-square meter ballroom, meeting facilities and upper market restaurants.

Marvilla said Novotel would have a special suite housing concert artists performing in the nearby Araneta Coliseum.

The Araneta Group is bullish of the hotel sector given the expected increase in tourism arrivals.

Accor, meanwhile, is the largest operator of hotels in the Asia-Pacific with more than 480 in the region. It has nearly 400 Novotels in major cities around world, including New York, Paris, London, Melbourne, Singapore, Bangkok and Shanghai.

Novotel is one of Accor’s several on-going development projects. The others are the construction of the 18-tower Manhattan Garden City in partnership with Megaworld Corp., and an office building Gateway Tower.

I hope Novotel Hotel will have it's own PAGCOR casino franchise which provides mini-shows of local bands in one of it's floors so no need to go to hotel casinos in Pasay. The entertainers at Araneta coliseum probably also wanted to be entertained while staying at Novotel Hotel. An entertainment Center without a casino is like a Carnival without a Bingo station. Or maybe the Aranetas would want to replace the New Frontier Building with a Center for the Cultural & Performing Arts or a Museum instead of just a movie thetre as part of it's entertainment plans.

^^ ^^ Hell no, No Casinos please. I was born in Cubao, Grew Up in Cubao and am still staying in Cubao whenever Im in Manila. I Check-in at hotels everytime I'm back to save my dad the hassle of preparing a room for me at home. I feel that Casinos should only be in places designated by Pagcor but to flood the whole country with Casinos will be very wrong. So to me I am against Casinos in Cubao. Please Manila has alot of Hotels with Casino already & Pasay Pagcor City is soon rising so please let Cubao be Casino Free. Thank you

I agree with Mr. Grey. Casinos bring money to the city but it also can bring more crimes and prostitutions. I wanna remember Cubao as kid friendly... Not Vegas wanna be!

lets leave the Casino's to Pasay's bagong nayong Pilipino complex area. IMHO ;)

Instead of gambling facilities, why not add a posh bar/club in Novotel Manila? So far, the nightlife of Araneta Center is inferior compared to Eastwood, Trinoma, SM NOE & Greenhills (I didn't add BGC, Makati, Manila & the likes since it's leaps apart compared to Araneta).

Since I'm big on giving out suggestions for Araneta Center lately, here's my contribution for Novotel Manila's thread:

Isn't that awesome?! The cantilevered glass-bottom pool really fits this hotel project. I think it's something that Manila is yet to have (correct me if we have something like this already) & a great tourist drawer for this hotel.

Please. It's not an upscale nor it is also a luxury brand. Accor's upscale brand would be Grand Mercure while the luxury brand is Sofitel.

Maybe because its a hotel. No one is really interested unless he/she is a stakeholder.

The building is good but the location is bad. Coliseum is unfortunate that it is "suffocated" by a string of buildings that overshadowed the importance as the centerpiece of Araneta Center.

Novotel is only a mid scale brand, one notch lower than pullman and 2 notches lower than Accor's premium brand which is Sofitel.

if it's upcale why would they put it in Cubao, just a few blocks from Takusa?

As long as there is a 4 or 5-star hotel in Araneta Center which can provide excellent customer service, very comfortable suites and complete recreational facilities at reasonable rates is fine with me...A sky garden with an infinity pool at the top-most floor would be great...Just a wishful thinking...

Not just Cubao, but by the Smart Araneta Coliseum to be specific. The upcoming Novotel(upscale) fits the renovating Coliseum well just as its competition the upcoming Conrad(luxury) fits the Mall of Asia Arena well.

I guess we should start putting a line and know the difference of AURORA Blvd, or EDSA Cubao to Araneta Center. Hehehe. I would love to see that area improves and be developed like any other small yet sustainable enclaves. I hope, Araneta will mind to fix the surrounding thouroughfares so that they will have a good image, inside and out. Anu nga ba yung pangalan ng condo na ginagawa sa tapat mismo ng EDSA near Farmer's Market? Ang pangit din kasi ng surrounding area nito.
