View Full Version : Is it safe to assume the Festival Tower is dead? Mr Man November 14th, 2004, 09:24 AM http://www.baker-re.com/baker/projects/festivaltower/images/minitower.jpg KGB November 14th, 2004, 09:37 AM I had no idea ...what's the big problem with it? KGB Mr Man November 14th, 2004, 09:45 AM No clue, the website is still taking Preview Registrations and has been for the last year or two. http://www.festivaltower.com/ 416 November 14th, 2004, 12:25 PM Dead? Not at all. In fact, they recently launched a new website for Festival Centre www.festivalcentre.ca The issue at hand is that the condo tower can't proceed with sales until they've secured financing to build Festival Centre. Once financial commitments are in place, Festival Tower will begin selling. Anyone have $196 million to spare? Mr Man November 14th, 2004, 03:19 PM That site reminds me of Metronome... KGB November 14th, 2004, 03:52 PM Well, Festival Tower and Festival Centre are two different projects. The condo project seems fine to me...I don't see why it would not sell well. But it's the TIFF Centre that appeals to me...as a film buff, I find this project personally far more important than ROM, AGO or the Opera House as far as cultural developments go. KGB Byron November 14th, 2004, 05:48 PM Well, Festival Tower and Festival Centre are two different projects. Actually they're the same project, judging from the websites, since they both claim to be located at King & John. SD November 14th, 2004, 08:53 PM I don't think either of them were dead. Though it would be nice if they re-did the tower portion of the project. valantino November 14th, 2004, 10:05 PM has the tower gained approval? Homer J. Simpson November 14th, 2004, 10:13 PM A few months ago on another forum, I read that both were still going to be built. I have no source to back it up though. alex h1 November 15th, 2004, 12:07 AM TIFF needs to do more fundraising before construction can begin. Seems they underestimated just how difficult it is to secure funds for cultural projects, so the whole project has been pushed back about a year. There was an article about it a couple months back in one of the papers. KGB November 15th, 2004, 02:07 AM "Actually they're the same project, judging from the websites, since they both claim to be located at King & John." Well yea...they are on the same site...the condos are built above the TIFF Centre. But they are two different entities...TIFF Centre is a $196 million headquarters for the TIFF Group....the tower above it is just condos (handled by Daniels). KGB valantino November 15th, 2004, 03:21 AM ^but the one that can be built without the need of the other is the same one having some difficulty raising adequate funds |
