View Full Version : Vidarbha - Hidden Treasure
radioactive May 8th, 2012, 07:19 AM Hi Folks,
This thread is going to capture all the hidden treasure and neglected sites of Vidarbha region. Apart from Tiger country, Vidarbha is abundant with natural resources as well as scenic beauty. If proper steps had been taken by state govt, things would have been different today and this part of state could have also appeared as tourist spot. Not an issue, we as a team, bring those information to the knowledge of world so that automatically things get improved.
Best luck!!!

radioactive August 27th, 2012, 07:22 AM State govt. should plan properly and develop tourism in this area to tackle down the naxalism. As people start visiting these places automatically that may create good opportunities for tribal people.

radioactive August 31st, 2012, 11:08 AM Playwright Gadkari's home still in a shambles
Vaibhav Ganjapure, TNN | Aug 31, 2012, 01.25AM IST
NAGPUR: Seven months after TOI expose on how home of Ram Ganesh Gadkari, also called Shakespeare of Marathi literature, in Saoner was lying neglected, the situation has hardly changed. Director of Mumbai-based State Archaeology and Museums Directorate Sanjay Patil had even paid a visit to the place and announced that the government would convert it into a "national monument".
However, except some cosmetic changes in the 150-year-old structure, the Archeology Directorate branch in the city did nothing to maintain the historic structure where the noted litterateur breathed his last on January 23, 1919, due to TB. The condition of auditorium-cum-amphitheatre built at the site is actually worse than before.
After TOI report, the department had cleaned the filth accumulated in the 150-year-old home and also applied anti-termite paint to prevent the wood from decaying. The department officials also made efforts to preserve the historic photographs of Gadkari with other literary giants including Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar and Bal Gandharva who frequently used to visit the memorial located on the bank of Kolar River. However, they did nothing about roof tiles that are on the verge of falling down. The person assigned the job of looking after the place doesn't know anything about Gadkari.
Many historic pictures were dumped behind closed doors. The third floor of the house has been turned into a dumping yard with all waste material kept there. The wooden pillars on which the structure stands continue to be in a bad shape. There is no round the clock security, thus putting precious pictures and belongings to risk.
The nearby auditorium-cum-amphitheatre was once a hub for literary and cultural events. Developed over sprawling area of over 10 acres with an expenditure running into crores, it was inaugurated by then chief minister Sharad Pawar on December 11, 1988, in presence of ministers Datta Meghe and Ranjit Deshmukh. Beautiful landscaping and even rooms were built for the performing artists coming from outside the town.
Two and half decades later, the entire area located in the heart of the town, is a picture of gross neglect. The remains of iron gates at the entrance give an idea of horrible things to follow. Shrubs have grown over the landscaping with pigs and other stray animals roaming inside. The entire area looks like a garbage dump. Plastic bags and other refuse is strewn all over.
Inside the auditorium that can accommodate over 500 viewers, stink welcomes you. The doors have been stolen while roofs and wall padding are falling apart. The floor is not visible as gutkha sachets, cigarette butts, and even used condoms cover it. The seats are broken while staircases and stage are in a dilapidated condition. Only big rectangular opening is left in the name of windows as grills and panes have been stolen. Collector Saurabh Rao had assured to visit the site after TOI report but failed to do so. Rao refused to receive calls made to him.
Patil informed he was on leave but will direct assistant director of archaeology in city Anand Bhoyar to visit the memorial once again and do the needful. Bhoyar said plans were afoot to further develop the memorial and they had already sent proposal for funding to the government. "It takes time to clear the proposals," he clarified.

radioactive October 13th, 2012, 10:16 AM Shree Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon.
No corruption at this Sansthan like others, No paid passes, No VIP passes, No separate queue for VIP, No advance booking. It is always first come first server basis.
Start Train journey either from Nagpur, Mumbai or Pune
Day 1
=====
· Reach Shegaon Railway station morning, be alert because you may be fast asleep early morning and train does not stop more than 5 minutes.
· Catch Sansthan bus from station to Bhakti Niwas. Bus service is free for all, auto-rickshaw may charge Rs.5 per seat
· Check-in to Bhakti Niwas. There will be queue for bhakti niwas but it is worth to stay in bhakti niwas compare to outside hotels. Priority is given to families and there are more options for rooms e.g. attached bathroom, air-cooler room, air-condition room etc. Normally people go for normal room because it is quick available, other rooms may take time as less rooms are made with such facilities. Common washrooms are clean as compare to outside hotels. Hence do not spend time if luxury rooms are not available, just pick up normal room. You can keep room for max 3 days. Extra bedding is available at very low rate e.g. Rs 11 towards mattress, pillow and bed sheet. Room rate for family starts from Rs 100 per day for common washroom and Rs 175 for attached washroom.
· There is difficulties for male group to get rooms but they have made good service for them. There is locker facility Rs 2/day (2 big bags can be easily accommodate in one locker) and washroom is free. There is separate 3 floors building for washroom for the pilgrims who do not take rooms. But still it is clean and neat, free hot water service. Bachelors can sleep in the dormitory and they get bedding in the night at minimum charges i.e. Rs. 11 per night. (bed, pillow and bed sheet)
· Be in darshan queue as early as possible. This is solely depends on how quickly you get the room. There is no advance booking or VIP booking, every person has to be in the queue.
· After darshan there is donation queue (voluntary), you may see long queue for donation. It is worth to pay back because most of the service they provide free and if there is no donation then sansthan may find difficulties to continue this service in future. I have seen people from England, Sydney, US they donate Rs.25000 onwards.
· Normally darshan ends at 11am then proceed to Prasadalay. Prasad is distributed between 11am to 1pm which is free and unlimited. Mostly you cover your lunch there.
· You can take a nap or proceed to Anand Sagar. Anand Sagar is big garden made on 400 acres land and which is worth to visit.
· There is free bus service to go to Anand Sagar from bhakti niwas. There is auto or tanga also operates at Rs 10 per seat.
· Anand Sagar entrance ticket is Rs 25, earlier it was free for donator but now a day’s people lost interest to donate.
· Spend time at Anand Sagar till evening and do not miss musical fountain in the evening. There are 2-3 shows after dark but try to attend 1-2 show because after that people go to bus stand to go back to bhakti niwas hence lot of rush for the free service bus. Hence avoid last musical fountain show
· Come to Bhakti Niwas and take dinner. There are two rates for dinner Rs 20 and 40, prefer Rs 40 dinner.
Day 2
=====
· Visit remaining part of Anand Sagar but you may have to pay entrance fee again. (Normally it does not cover within 1 day)
· Spend full day at Anand Sagar and come back to Bhakti Niwas in the evening
· Checkout the room and take dinner at Bhakti Niwas
· Catch night train to Pune or Mumbai
Tips:
· Best time is between September to February
· Book your tickets 2 months in advance as trains are full every day. Try to avoid outside Maharashtra trains as they are always late hence prefer the trains start from Amaravati or Nagpur and avoid trains from Kolkata.
· Your group should have ladies or kids so that you get rooms quickly
· Carry milk for babies in advance before you enter into Anand Sagar as they use milk powder
· Book your journey tickets well in advance atleast 2 months before
· Try to get accommodation in the Bhakti Niwas. Outside you may see good hotels but charges for 12 hours and it is too costly
· Water is very hard in the marathwada area hence you may smell while taking bath in hotels outside but in Bhakti Niwas they have water treatment plant before they provide water
· 2 days trip is very reasonable, you may feel that you have paid for only journey tickets as accommodation and food are very cheap. Rs 800 per person for 2 days including travel and food. (Rs 550 for train return Non AC ticket, AC may be 3 times)
· If you have bigger group and you are occupying more rooms then it is advisable to surrender half of the rooms on last day to save money as well as it is good for other people who are looking for accommodation.
· Since sansthan runs Engineering, Medical college and Hospital at very low charges, also gives free unlimited prasad and subsidized food at Anand Sagar it is worth donate some money. Each group should donate at least Rs 1001/- otherwise after some days these services may terminate.
Anand Sagar highlights:
· It is designed so nice and lot of greenery everywhere even though in Vidharbh where very less monsoon happens. We should appreciate that they have maintain such greenery.
· Lot of food stalls at minimum rates and quality is maintained for each foods and beverages.
· Since there is hard water, you may not like this hence you may pick up mineral water bottles while coming back from Anand Sagar. Mineral water bottles are almost half the cost and chilled bottles served there.
· Those who are going with babies, make sure there is no milk available as they use powder milk for tea and coffee.
· For babies and old person they provide trolleys on deposit money. It is free, you will get deposit back when you exit from Anand Sagar
· Food items are very cheap in Anand Sagar hence you can enjoy a lot
· There is amusement park inside for all ages but you have to take coupons in advance, For small kids (below 6yrs age) Rs 5 coupon can be used upto 5 games and rest Rs 5 coupon for each game. The condition is atleast 10 people should be there to start the game, it may saves electricity or maximum utilization of games.
· They have started Train like Vanrani in National Park but it is too better than Vanrani, it is nice ride.
· Hanging bridge, small lakes, Vivekanand Dhyan Kendra, Shiv Temple are major attractions
· Do not miss musical fountain show and then aquarium at the end.
· Normally it takes complete one day out at Anand Sagar and every age can enjoy there.

From Sudhir Suresh Thavre (Punfosion) : I had the good fortune to visit Shri Gajanan Maharaj temple at Shegaon in Feb. I must say it was the most wonderful time of the year with the neem trees and all flowering plants in full bloom. The train journey from Mumbai to Shegaon was the most memorable with the fragrance of flowers throughout. It was hard to believe we were breathing fresh air (after living for so long in polluted cities) Apart from that, the Temple Trust having made excellent arrangement for free transportation & accommodation is doing a very good job.
Shegaon is one of the most cleanest & most disciplined pilgrimage we have ever been. The volunteers are very helpful and the best part we noticed is that no special treatment is given to any of the VIP's & there is no paid queue for darshan and even in the queue for prasad food. All are treated equally. Volunteers are always cleaning the floors & keeping the premises spick & span. There is peace in the temple inspite of crowds of people from all walks of life assembled at a place. There are no Pandits pestering you for money for some pooja.
Undoubtedly Anand Sagar Project is almost like paradise on earth..... It is so well planned & well maintained.....we sincerely would like to express our appreciation & gratitude to all the devotees who are instrumental in making this visit so memorable for us. It really reflects what a perfectionist, the Maharaj must have been! to instill such values & qualities in the devotees. Ofcourse I am not qualified enough to measure the greatness of Shri Gajanan Maharaj, but then I had this strong urge to share my experience here. May the blessings of Shri Gajanan Maharaj be on one & all. Gan Gan Ganat Bote!!!
I would say it is similar to Shirdi Sansthan but lot of good things can be seen at Shegaon and it is worth to visit..

Nov 6, 2012, 01.30AM IST
Nov 7, 2012, 01.30AM IST

radioactive January 10th, 2013, 05:45 AM Ajinkya captures the flavour of Vidarbha region
By Barkha Mathur, TNN | Jan 8, 2013, 03.03 AM IST
NAGPUR: Ajinkya uses a sport as its background to establish that winning and losing are means for achieving a larger purpose in life which is nurturing relationships, feels Tejas Vijay Deoskar, the writer and director of the Marathi film.
The young director would like to pitch it as first one to be made in Nagpur. "Portions of the film have been shot in city to create a culture of film production here," he says and adds that he had tried to capture the flavours of this region through various characters."
Deoskar was addressing a press conference at a city hotel on Monday along with the main cast of the film Sandeep Kulkarni and Kadambari Kadam. Music director Susmit Limaye and producer Komal Kewlani were also present. A premiere show was held at Cinemax later in the evening.
The film narrates the story of a successful basketball coach whose ego tussles take him away from his wife. But ultimately it is the sportsperson within him that teaches him to win her back. "I'm a hoopster and am aware of its speed, value and attitude which blended well with my subject. These traits of the game carry the plot forward," says Deoskar. "The film begins in Nagpur, moves to different places and returns to the city," he says and informs that the cast too has a strong local connect with Sarika Nilatkar Nawathe playing a crucial role.
"The film takes a wider perspective of the word 'winning'," says Sandeep Kulkarni whose two films 'Shwas' and 'Dombivilli Fast' have won critical acclaim. "I studied the manner in which the game is played, the way a player handles the ball and the attitude that is required to become a good cager," says Kulkarni about his preparation for the role.
Describing her role of a successful and ambitious corporate head, Kadambari Kadam, the female lead in the film, says that hers was a very modern day character. "There are many situations in the film with which the public would connect easily," she says.
The film is scheduled for a state wide release on January 11.

Move over Harappa and Mohenjodaro! Vidarbha can now boast of its own important archaeological landmark at Mali, in Tiroda Taluka, at Gondia district, where remains of a 3000-year-old tribal colony of Megalithic age have recently been discovered. If all goes well, this could open new vistas for History lovers and put Vidarbha on the archaeological map as a major attraction, says assistant director of archaeology, Nagpur region, Dr Madhukar Kathane.
An important discovery
The work on this archaeological expedition started in January this year, says Dr Kathane, and adds: "The archaeologists of Maharashtra are quite thrilled with the discovery of this tribal colony. We have found the utensils, everyday weapons, pottery and even a harpoon at this site. The Megalithic inhabitants of this colony were tribals, whereas the inhabitants of Harappa and Mohenjodaro were essentially urban people. Soon, we will get more insights into the lifestyle of megalithic people.
Attracting tourists
According to Dr Kathane, if this site is promoted well, it could give a fillip to tourism in the region, which lacks an incentive. "Close to Mali, we had also discovered the site of an ancient temple at Nagra sometime back, which dates back to 8th century AD. And it is very close to Nagzira, which is a major jungle attraction of the region. If these three destinations are clubbed together and sold as a package, they could become a major attraction for holidaymakers, especially the foreign tourists," says Dr Kathane.
