They showed this on the news yesterday. It had all flat screen PCs and I think some laptops. I did not see any tablets or Kindles, so hopefully those PCs are all made-in-Nigeria Zinox, Omatek and Veda brands.

Ideally they should. But since they did not, so what? Who dies?!
Rather have a digital library (or any library) with seat covers than none at all.
PS: Btw, I see the subsequent pictures show the seat covers virtually all gone. I guess they have become "literate" since your last post (since that is apparently your concept of literacy).

naija247 September 2nd, 2012, 12:56 AM Nice! Its funny that the state governor is directly involved in building a city library. This is supposed to be the job of the city council chief. This is why its taking so long to develop Nigeria; minor developmental projects are being funded by the state rather than the regional local council. The local governments should do their jobs so that the state goverment should focus on major projects...Well i'm loving this library sha...
GAR3TH September 2nd, 2012, 02:12 AM ^^gbam!!! This is what i've been saying for years, that the Nigerian administrative structure is messed up. Many States act and do jobs that are the responsibility of Local govs and the LGAs pretty much does nothing. Nigeria has created so many states that they now act like LGAs. And we have created so many LGAs that they cant even do any basic task due to limited resources.
Anyway this is a nice project, one of the most technology advance buildings in Nigeria.

It doubles as the State Library Head Quarters, so I don't see why the state should not build it's own Library HQ. Let's not criticize for the sake of it. BTW how many LGA's in Nigeria can build a Library of this standard. Compare the budget expenditure of any American State with the Budget of the richest Nigerian state and you will see why they cannot do the same projects. Most of our states may even be on the level of some county in terms of Budget expenditure.
Cheers
Vakai September 2nd, 2012, 06:31 PM I like this project. Good stuff.

How does state govt the building of a state library preclude the LGA from building a local library (or, going further, a school from building a school library)? Sorry, but I fail to see how both are mutually exclusive.

naija247 November 17th, 2012, 04:30 AM What a beauty! Joblessbeggar, what I mean is that if the Local councils are effective there woudnt be dearth of basic infrastructure such as libraries, theaters, parks etc. etc. in each LGA. What worries me is that this Governor is unique in every sense and most Governors in Nigeria are not as effective, and so that if he were to leave office he would see his achievements that he worked so hard to accomplish dissapear quicker than a quick sand. If I were him, I would strengthen the Local councils for example by legislation, which would achieve the goal of decentralizing, and taking the real power to the grass roots level. With effective Local councils, each LGA will continue to build and expand upon existing infrastructures irrespective of how incompetent successive Governors may be.
