Set on the corner of Pritchard and Saur street in the Johannesburg CBD, this redevelopment falls into the Kopanong precint, an initiative taken up by the Gauteng provincial government to house all their departments in one local area.

The project entails demolishing a 9 storey building, deemed structually unstable. A brand new 22 storey office building is proposed for the site to house office, parking and retail.

Budget: 300 million
Client: Gauteng provincial government
Team: Jakupa architects and urban designers
Project type: New 22 storey office building for the Gauteng department of transport and infrastructure development
Location: Corner of Sauer and Pritchard street, Johannesburg CBD.

This must be the first high rise in the CBD for quite some years...

Interesting. It's a pity the design looks like the building was in fact built in the 70's

The hotel was demolished 2 years ago. This is right next to lithuli house. But with stalled 69 president and others, im not hopeful

Yet another waste of public funds. I bet they looked all over for vacant office space, but alas nothing is available. Oh wait, let's use some more of that money we haven't used to build houses... Brilliant!

Waltjie does have a point...

The floor plan for that design would be terribly small and frankly not practical

I remember the same things said about Da Vinci. The da vinci site is even smaller. There was a 9floor hotel on this site for 40 years. And Waltjie's bitter comments are getting OLD. Doubt this will happen, as the departments are hardly in shape to organize a pool party. Still, some people on this forum must really broaden their interests and focus less on all that is horrid. Development forum.

Very unlikely that anything will materialize on this site in Sauer street.
