^^Beautiful pics of my home province, got me feeling homesick. BTW Thabazimbi literally means Iron Mountain due to abundant iron ore reserves in that part of the world.

^^

Limpopo seems very pretty and underrated. The area around Tzaneen looks to be one of the prettiest places in SA.

^^indeed, ke moPedi wa makgonthe.... - (yes I'm Pedi through and through),..:cheers:.

@MC
Limpopo is underrated cos its undeveloped (nearly the same population as the W.Cape) but less than half of its GDP and its also a mirror image of the WC, as the most African of the provinces, with the highest proportion of black Africans re: population. Its growing rel rapidly (since democracy its consistently grown faster than the national economy, no doubt due to base effects) due to mining, agriculture, trade and tourism (game farms for days), naturally its economy should be the largest in the northern provinces after Gauteng due to its big population. The process is already having political ramifications nationally, as witnessed by the rise of a cohort of politicians from Limpopo or those that are Pedi, including Malema, Mothlanthe, Sexwale, Phosa (??). So all in all it's on the come-up....

^^ I know that Malema is Pedi. But I am surprised for the others. I thought that Sexwale and Phosa was Xhosas and that Mothlanthe was Tswana. I made a mistake.:)

I loved the scenery of this province when I drove through a few months ago. What ruined my trip though, was the upgrading and repair work being carried out on almost every single road. Although I was impressed by the fact that work was actually being done (practically everywhere) it was highly annoying!

Coming from the Western Cape, the spread of towns was strange for me. Well, it's more like the spread of shacks over kilometers of rolling hills...I can imagine this makes provision of services very difficult - how do you provide for the sheer number of people who are spread so far and wide?

But there are such nice places to see around the province, like the biggest boabab, etc. Thanks for the pics!

Indeed the rural settlements are vast , the one I'm originally from is an example of pure rural sprawl, with potentially 1 million people when you add all the surrounding villages. The development there is simply frantic and all manner of services are being provided, water pipelines, roads, lighting, fencing, etc... those shacks though are not permanent, they're used to demarcate plots until more permanent structures are built. Hence they're spaced so far apart

That really is hectic amount of people for a rural setting, but I can imagine that this is the case for most of the province - they shacks simply did not end.

I am really glad that there are signs that they are moving on service provision, it is impossible to miss. I would just be worried about the sprawl as it makes the task seem almost impossible. It's like the opposite of where things should be going in terms of being environmentally conscious and efficient. But hey, one step at a time right?

Ugly footballer's statue! Who designs all these ugly african statues? We are portraying ourselves in the most ugliest way, why? Look at those ugly statues near Bloemfontein airport and the one next to Loftus stadium in Pretoria? Its time to change the creator?
