Gherla(Armenian: Հայաքաղաք Hayakaghak, German: Neuschloss or Armenierstadt, Hungarian: Szamosújvár or Örményváros) is a city in Cluj County ,Romania (in the historical region of Transylvania). It is located 45 km from Cluj-Napoca on the Somesul Mic River, and has a population of 20,203.

The locality was first recorded in 1291, as a village named Gherlahida (probably derived from the Slavic word grle, meaning "ford"). The second name was Armenian, Հայաքաղաք Hayakaghak, meaning "Armenian city"; it gave the Medieval Latin and Greek official name Armenopolis, as well as the German alternative name Armenierstadt. Later, the name of Szamosújvár was used in official Hungarian records, meaning "the new town on the Someş".

The modern city was built in the early 18th century by Armenians, successors of the Cilician Armenian diaspora, who had originally settled in Crimea and Moldavia, and moved to Transylvania sometime after 1650. After a two years' campaign by the Armenian-Catholic Bishop Oxendius Vărzărescu, they converted from the Armenian Apostolic Church to the Armenian Catholic Church.

Catedrala armeano-catolică Sfânta Treime, cu hramul secundar Sfântul Grigore Luminătorul, este, alături de Biserica Șimaian cu hramul Bunei Vestiri, ultima din cele nouă biserici armene câte existau în Gherla.

Biserica Franciscana din Gherla:
Biserica franciscană a fost construită între anii 1744-1758, dupa o donaţie făcută de primarul Gherlei, Victor Daniel, care a dăruit franciscanilor în anul 1742 lotul pentru construirea unei biserici.
Ea a fost reconstruită în anul 1855.

Scurt istoric:
Cetatea Gherla (Cetatea Martinuzzi) a fost construită în 1540, la ordinul episcopului de Oradea Gheorghe Martinuzzi, totodată cancelar și vistier la Curtea Regală maghiară.
Pe 20 octombrie 1785 împăratul Iosif al II-lea a transformat cetatea Gherla în închisoare centrală pentru Transilvania (Carcer Magni Principatus Transilvaniae). Transformarea a urmat unei evadări în masă de la închisoarea din județul Trei Scaune(acum Covasna), incident care a generat din partea nobilimii dorința de a crea o închisoare de securitate maximă în Ardeal.
La 1 mai 1913 închisoarea este transformată în institut de prevenție pentru minori, unde copii studiau și învățau diverse meserii.
În timpul comunismului închisoarea Gherla a cunoscut două perioade distincte: 1945-1964 închisoare politică, respectiv 1964-1989 închisoare pentru deținuți de drept comun. Închisoarea Gherla, una dintre cele mai vechi din România a devenit după 1989 penitenciar de maximă siguranță.

Din fericire fotografia este mai veche ,cam de prin 2007 .Între timp ,în toamna anului 2009 ,cred, a fost reabilitată (foarte bine) strada principală din oraş. [1].
Cât despre clădiri ,acea casă galbenă a fost renovată recent ,de câteva luni.
