But we have to wait and see till what extent these Expert Ministers go to scuttle the project by dividing it into umpteen pieces. :ohno: If it was not proposed in the Capital nobody could have raised this stupid idea. :bash: .. vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 08:55 AM The capital city has emerged as the front-runner for hosting the prestigious Knowledge City, essentially a ‘knowledge economy cluster’, after the discussion between the National Innovation Council (NInC) and the State Government attended by the top brass including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and State’s Mentor Sam Pitroda. Knowledge City is one among the ten-point development agenda discussed for redefining the State’s image and future. As the knowledge-based economy is the fastest growing segment in the global economy, being a significant job and wealth creator, the concept turns a more ‘hot’ topic. Though Kozhikode and Kochi are possible locations for the Knowledge City, Thiruvananthapuram has an edge over the other two though all the three have the proximity to international airports. In assessment of NInC, institutions can be located in vertical space and land requirement limited to around 300 acres. Thiruvananthapuram reportedly has 299 acres of already acquired land seven km from Technopark and the balance available, along with excellent knowledge institutions. The city has the most developed knowledge ecosystem in the State with over a dozen world-class institutions of higher education and R&D. Technopark, Technocity, KINFRA, IT SEZ, C-DAC and C-DIT in the IT Sector, IISER, NIIST, VSSC, LPSC, Brahmos Aerospace and IIST in aerospace, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology in the field of biotechnology, SCIMST and RCC in the field of medical sciences, Kerala University, IGNOU, KAU and Kerala Technical University in the field of higher education and the Technopark Business Incubator, Trivandrum Research and Engineering in the field of technology, business incubators and the proposed Indian Institute of Molecular Sciences in the field of basic research and education are in and around the city. Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor had made a strong plea for setting up the Knowledge City in a recent letter addressed to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He had enumerated a number of advantages that the capital city possessed for being the location of the trend-setting proposal. Source : EB  vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 08:55 AM I presume 299 acres of land the omniscient journos claiming available is the Techno-city one. Are they building paara for "Techno-city" by pitching for the Knowledge city or some revenue land is readily available in the nearby area?? Can some one enlighten. Also why journos are worried about land identification/acquirement, let that job be best left for the government of the day!! vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 08:56 AM The life science park can be considered as one of the verticals of a knowledge city and so there is no harm in occupying that land for knowledge city. More land is easily available further north, till the campus of Trivandrum Internationa School (Thonnackal, Korani) and so expansion would be easier as more and more 'knowledge' businesses crop up. It would be better to keep Vithura as a purely academic location, so that we have two well defined knowledge regions for the city.. Vithura for knowledge creation and Thonnackal for its commercialization. ., vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 08:57 AM IIITM-K to help transform The Capital City to Knowledge City: Chief Minister http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q556/25dude25/aaatvm.jpg Allotted 10 acres of land for IIITM-K in Technocity Courtesy: Mathrubhumi New World Class Campus @ Technocity for IIITM-K: Chief Minister http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q556/25dude25/aaatvm1.jpg Courtesy: Keralakaumudi .. RajeshVR June 8th, 2012, 09:50 AM Are you sure Knowledge city is coming up in Trivandrum:) vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 10:10 AM ^^ As of now, YES. :) Let us hope for the best. vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 10:12 AM http://i49.tinypic.com/141ahc.jpg From Mathrubhumi vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 10:16 AM http://i48.tinypic.com/29dz1j5.jpg From Mathrubhumi RajeshNair June 8th, 2012, 02:27 PM Vinod don't you think it is a little too early to start this thread. Let the government come up with some concrete plan first. BabuCS June 8th, 2012, 03:53 PM Vinod don't you think it is a little too early to start this thread. Let the government come up with some concrete plan first. More and more news items about this proposal will be coming in, so I think this thread will be a nice follow up to the developments. Knowledge city will flourish only where knowledge is created. Thanks Vinod for the effort.:) Ajaypp June 8th, 2012, 05:45 PM While I would usually tend to err on the side of caution as Rajesh suggests, perhaps building up awareness and momentum about the project is one way to try to counter-act the obvious forces attempting to hijack the project to other locations. I do wish that organizations based in Tvm take up this issue in a vocal manner rather than wait for this rather ominous period of silence from GoK to break on its own. We may not like what comes after, unless intense pressure is maintained on the powers that be. vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 06:39 PM ^^ Bit early, but as BabuCS sir rightly said we closely need to followup this project which will turn Trivandrum into a Global City and Knowledge Capital of India. This project is the brain child of Sam Pitroda and he wants it to be in Trivandrum. So let us believe this will happen in Trivandrum. :cheers1: Jomy June 8th, 2012, 06:50 PM Vinod don't you think it is a little too early to start this thread. Let the government come up with some concrete plan first. Don't wory Rajesh, if It is hijacked, we can make the project status as "Project Hijacked" heh :). What you say Vinod? In future our people will have the right information to know that this project was initially proposed in Trivandrum and because of the political faulplay this project got hijacked to some other place. vinodtnt June 8th, 2012, 08:24 PM Don't wory Rajesh, if It is hijacked, we can make the project status as "Project Hijacked" heh :). I wish and feel that the situation does not warrant the level of pessimism expressed above about establishment of knowledge city in Tvm. In fact I had a talk with one of our family friends from Chicago who knows Sam Pitroda ( business connection ) well. According to him Sam Pitroda is a man of strong will and will not be swayed by political considerations. I am sure if the CM or any of his cabinet member wants to change the decision to establish the Knowledge city in Tvm ,he or she has to give a valid technical reason for their suggestion and not base it on political expediency. Let us hope for the best. Cheers!!!
