View Full Version : To my lovely Brummies.....woody here needing your help!!
woodhousen November 17th, 2004, 08:21 PM Ok people, I don’t know if I have told you all but I am helping construct a new website. Its going to be a bit like mine but this is a commercial site with information on each tower, like a data base for Birmingham.
Now, there is one problem with me doing this, I live over 250miles away in the lovely northern city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and can not go into Brum easily and take pictures of all the buildings I need. At the moment, I am using pictures I have on my website and off skyscrapercity forum. However, I cant find pictures of all buildings I need and this is where you lovely lot come in. I need pictures to temporarily use until I get get down and take pictures myself of the following Buildings, but before you all get in and post tonnes of pics, you need to read this first.
1) All pictures need to be your own. As it is a commercial site, I am not allowed to use picture that either haven’t been taken by me or someone o know and anything that is in anyway copyrighted should be AVOIDED at all costs.
2) As it is a commercial site, some companies visiting the site may want to purchase some pics…..and if they do, you will be getting 90% of the money and trust me, if developer want pics to include in their proposals, many aren’t sold under £100
3) If you want to post pics that are of a decent quality, post then on this thread with your full name….or pm them to me or email if you don’t want to disclose your name. This is so I can put them under your name. I will let you know if I have used your pictures!
Ok then I think that’s about it.
I need pictures of the following buildings please:
Natwest towerDONE
Fiveways tower DONE
Joseph chamberlain tower
Metropolitan House DONE
Edgbaston House DONE
Bank House DONE
Cumberland House DONE
54 Hagley Rd DONE
Hagley House DONE
Trident House DONE
Dalton Tower (Aston Uni)DONE
Jurrys Inn DONE
Lawrence Tower (Aston uni)DONE
Lyndon House DONE
Brindeley HouseDONE
Stafford Tower (Aston Uni)DONE

Ok, as I have already done the main buildings and use some of you pics, I will need to know the full names of the following people
Lizzie
Dee
Smiley
Blunther
MK61
Fusionist
Cuidad Bristol
Again, if you don’t want to post your name here then just pm me no one else will know. Also if you don’t want me to use your pictures, let me know and I will remove them. (though remember the £90)
Thanx a lot, Woody x
Blunther November 17th, 2004, 08:45 PM I'm Luke Atterbury, but I wasn't aware that I'd taken any pictures!
Bloody sleep-photographing again :|
:)
Martin G November 17th, 2004, 10:42 PM Smileyface will positively have an orgasm when he reads what you just wrote Woody.
:D
mk61 November 18th, 2004, 01:30 AM More incentive for me to get snapping
I've been called lots of different things over the years - but I prefer Andy Jones.
Fusionist November 18th, 2004, 02:54 AM I have pmed you woody :)
gothicform November 18th, 2004, 02:59 AM its not entirely commercial ... free for non commercial use :) we're taking a leaf out of linux's book with it.
mk61 November 18th, 2004, 03:01 AM well then, the more the merrier :)
woodhousen November 18th, 2004, 06:41 PM ....but still, about these pictures!
Martin G November 18th, 2004, 08:24 PM What about these pictures? :? ;) :tongue3:
Smileyface November 18th, 2004, 10:47 PM I don't even know what half of those towers are, then again I was always a bit shit with names. I presume most of them are around the Five Ways area but I'm popping into Brum on Saturday so I'll take a few pics of the towers round there.
Here are the only two I can find at the moment that might correspond to any of the buildings on that list.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/Robdann/Birmingham/Broadstreetblock.jpg
Oh yeah, I'm Rob Dann.
mk61 November 19th, 2004, 01:43 AM ....but still, about these pictures!
alright - I'm just going to have a rummage and see what I've got already - but the earliest I'm likely to be able to take any fresh images is sunday (again).
mk61 November 19th, 2004, 02:23 AM This - I believe - is Trident House woody. I have a few more but this is the best one I have - non-compressed image is much larger, if you want it I can Pm or email it to you. My full size images are 2032 x 1524, 24 bit jpegs, though I can convert them into pretty much any format you want.
http://tinypic.com/mkfhs
That is - of course - assuming you didnt want tricorn house instead. As for the rest, It'll have to be sunday - I can get a good sweep of them down the hagley road - in fact I can probably get the lot - just depends on the weather being any good. Till then, keep watching the skies! ;)
Dee November 20th, 2004, 11:11 AM Woody, check your mail.
mk61 November 21st, 2004, 08:00 PM okay, by the time I got into town the light was fading rapidly, so they didnt come out as well as I would have hoped, but here's what I got
not really sure what this is...

54 Hagley Road
http://tinypic.com/n59ap
http://tinypic.com/n59b6
http://tinypic.com/n59g3

Hagley House
http://tinypic.com/n59gp
http://tinypic.com/n59hk

mk61 November 22nd, 2004, 05:53 PM lol I didnt notice. Mk61 is obviously pronounced as mark61, so I thought you'd just dispensed with 61. Not to worry :)
Blunther November 22nd, 2004, 05:57 PM I thought it were pronounced Em Kay Sixty 1. Then when you said 'Mark 61' I thought you were called mark for a bit too. But then you were Andy.

Smileyface November 28th, 2004, 01:51 AM I'm trying to figure out why anyone would want a picture of Brindley House :toilet:
mk61 November 28th, 2004, 06:33 PM Aston uni is bloody frustrating... it damn near impossible to get up close to anything because of walls and low-rise clutter, and there are trees everywhere, which kinda impedes some views. Still and all, I had a go at Lawrence and Dalton, but the light was bad and it started to rain, so I couldnt really come up with anything beautiful.
Didnt get chance to do brindley house, 8 brindley place and ol' smokey joe clocktower, but I'm planning to be back in town monday, so we'll see what happens then, eh?

neil, the news upload thing is finally finished. im going to start archiving the old birmingham highrise site from geocities on sn.com now.
Smileyface December 14th, 2004, 08:30 PM Looks like we're still awaiting a decent pic of the JC clock tower to have a full house. I'm going nowhere near Selly Oak in the foreseeable future so that rules me out...anyone else?
Blunther December 15th, 2004, 01:27 AM I'm under it every day at work but I don't have a camera :jippo:
mk61 December 19th, 2004, 01:55 AM I'm spending a couple of days at the uni's barber institute soon, so I'll try to get a proper pic of the clocktower if the weather's kind.

gothicform January 10th, 2005, 10:05 PM this will mean that all the top 40 brum buildings will be in the database. of course there's loads more to add but it would be nice to have them done before the site launches - the bare minimum so to speak.
Smileyface January 10th, 2005, 10:38 PM What is the Exchange building?
woodhousen January 10th, 2005, 10:52 PM yes, its the horrible black and brown building near the stephensons tower and navigation street!

Smileyface January 12th, 2005, 07:44 PM I look forward to hearing everyones favourable comments on my latest batch of photo's
Smileyface January 12th, 2005, 07:54 PM You must have posted a split second before me Blunther.....they are quite horrific though aren't they. Stephenson Tower could probably look a bit more acceptable after a paint job or a bit of recladding but that other big brown bolshy thing, fucking horrible!
gothicform January 12th, 2005, 08:00 PM those are really nice pics given how shitty it is, with that added we will have done all the 40 tallest towers in brum. hurrah! to be honest i think neil has gone down to about number 50 now, only 150 more to go. lol.
stephenson tower looks ok actually, probably horrid looking in bad weather.
woodhousen January 12th, 2005, 08:01 PM ok, im confussed.....wat is the name of the bt exchange tower? i cant find it on skyscrapers.com
Smileyface January 12th, 2005, 08:07 PM ok, im confussed.....wat is the name of the bt exchange tower? i cant find it on skyscrapers.com
We call it lots of different names but you probably wouldn't be able to use them on your site
woodhousen January 12th, 2005, 08:11 PM lol wen any ideas that i can use???
bileduct January 12th, 2005, 08:23 PM I think its official title is "Midland ATE", with ATE standing for "Automatic Telephone Exchange".
gothicform January 12th, 2005, 10:13 PM exchange tower isnt in the list of any of the buildings of brum i have here. what road is it on? ill find out if someone can tell me.
Smileyface January 12th, 2005, 10:59 PM I think bileduct's right, here's a link to the Communication Workers union site and their postal address (on the left of the page) is in the building.
http://www.cwu.org.uk/branches/BBCW/
morestoreysplease January 13th, 2005, 01:26 AM It's on Hill St Gothic. Hopefully they've knocked both of these abominations down by the time the site's launched lol!
gothicform January 13th, 2005, 01:27 AM if they do then brum will be behind manc in the skyline rating, its really that close right now. dont hope too hard.
woodhousen January 13th, 2005, 02:00 AM it isnt though with what currently standing....ok with all the proposed stuff in manchester yes its very close but at the mo we're ahead i thought u said! anyway..... if it was a toss between towers and height or a building or nothing, id rarther have nothing then have those horrible things!
morestoreysplease January 13th, 2005, 02:05 AM Yeah I agree - a lot of Manchester's stuff hasn't been granted planning permission yet.
It is inevitable that some will get built though. Existing at the moment I reckon Brum is about 60 - 40 in share.
Dee January 13th, 2005, 02:11 AM I don't care what other cities have towards a skyline rating, them buildings are shite so should be knocked down forthwith.
Anyway these sites could have future tower proposals on them. When they get around to rebuilding New Street Station, Stephenson Tower should bite the dust.
Nice pics Smiley shame about the content. At least you got blue sky though
mk61 January 13th, 2005, 03:42 AM exchange tower isnt in the list of any of the buildings of brum i have here. what road is it on? ill find out if someone can tell me.
number 60 station street I think.
Eddy: It is, just looked at that union site.
gothicform January 13th, 2005, 05:57 AM great stuff... ill leave neil to add it though. that means both manchester and brum both have every building down to 60m added now. hurrah! london has 450 odd though over 60m :O

woodhousen January 13th, 2005, 08:31 PM no tits, im purely a bum man...as you should know....anyway back to those photos
gothicform January 13th, 2005, 09:32 PM well we want a fully comprehensive database. you dont have to take pics of everything but it would be nice to have buildings added and be a pic of each of them too. about 70 manchester buildings have been added including boring tower blocks, and apart from 1 they all have pics. there doesnt have to be a pic of each as you know, but it would help and it would make things easier for people browsing too - not everyone knows they are shitty council blocks.
Smileyface January 13th, 2005, 11:06 PM I don't mind taking photo's of shitty tower blocks, in fact (along with EK and Nacho) I seem to have some sort of obsession with them

If people can help me out with some of the names of Gothics list i'll get the pictures
caw123 January 14th, 2005, 09:03 PM While were at it, Smiley, could you please post a larger version of this for the Stockport database? very important place you know...

fekin bitch slap... they're posh fruits up north eh! can't recall many new audi's parked at the foot of nice tower blocks in brum? unless you count the social workers... mmm... maybe that's a slight exageration, the people (with an ounce of nouse) who owned decent cars at charlemont made a point of parking them out of throwing distance from the top floors. I counted two cars smashed up from gravity... heavy objects... and dick heads!
Smileyface January 15th, 2005, 01:51 AM We had a few cars smashed on our estate last year from heavy objects landing on them from up high, trouble is those heavy objects were people! Four jumpers in the space of a year....what's my point......oh yeah that's a nice tower block in Stockport

Neil, whats going to happen to your Birmingham Highrise site then????
woodhousen January 16th, 2005, 08:36 PM it will close and be merged with this site.....
i will be incharge of the birminghams ection and all the news and archives are being transferred over there!
mk61 January 17th, 2005, 07:30 PM I'm going to be on the uni campus monday coming - so I'll get the clocktower shot you need, unless somebody beats me to it.
unfortunately my thing at the uni has been put back, so I didnt get to take those pics today. Besides, the weather wasnt all that great. If things are better tomorrow I'll see if I can shoot down there before work.
Dee January 18th, 2005, 12:57 AM it will close and be merged with this site.....
i will be incharge of the birminghams ection and all the news and archives are being transferred over there!
So when will it all be ready??
woodhousen January 18th, 2005, 01:51 AM lol when i get those pictures!!!!!!!! HINT!!!!!!!!
gothicform January 18th, 2005, 04:57 AM itll open in about 3 weeks. we have a lot to add first, the database is only 650 buildings so far out of i'd estimate 3500-4000 in total. birmingham is done solidly for the top 40 tallest. on the otherhand liverpool is down to number 80 now and manchester is down to about the same, the moral is basically post pics for every brum building you have. the only place done solidly so far is the south coast which is more or less complete... plymouth, portsmouth, southampton, brighton etc.
woodhousen January 18th, 2005, 12:55 PM so, u heard the man....post!
Smileyface January 18th, 2005, 05:19 PM great stuff... ill leave neil to add it though. that means both manchester and brum both have every building down to 60m added now. hurrah! london has 450 odd though over 60m :O

It would certainly take a while to get a lot of these blocks because they are so spaced out around the city, I might be able to get a few on my way home from work even though i don't recognize the vast majority of them.....Barry Jackson Tower??
I'll be popping to Smethwick soon so I'll defo get a pic of Hamilton House, the big 23 storey block....and I'll get a few of the others in the area as well.

If you've already got Birminghams 40 tallest sorted that'll probably account for all of my pics of individual buildings. I'll have a butchers through my pics though and see what i've got.
woodhousen January 19th, 2005, 06:16 PM ok, to make it easier for you to get pics of all these anonymous council blocks then i have compiled a list of where some of these towers are!
