Dubailand nunca se hizo..

Nunca se hizo nada. El único que medio hizo algo fue Universal Studios que construyó una montaña rusa pero como nadie volvió a hacer nada entonces la desarmaron y se la llevaron para Korea pues estan planeando construir un parque allí.

Como quien dice... apaguen y vámonos :)

Look Back: Journey to Atlantis

Journey to Atlantis opened at SeaWorld Orlando in 1998 and was SeaWorld’s first major thrill ride. Since then, it has spawned two other Journey to Atlantis rides at SeaWorld San Diego and SeaWorld San Antonio. All three rides were designed by Mack Rides, but each offers a unique experience, with Orlando’s version being the largest and most intricately themed. A look at models from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Thanks to a Twitter tip from Orlando Attractions friend Matt Pezzula (@matpez), we’re able to present these models of some of the buildings and features at the upcoming Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
The pictures were downloaded from the public Picasa web album of danswingler, presumably art designer Daniel Swinger, although we can’t confirm that.
Here are the photos and the captions that were posted with them.

Hogwarts Model. I was responsible for making the platforms inside the model and made some of the Hogwarts buildings including The Great Hall, the ‘D’ Tower, bridge and entrances. I also sculpted the cliff around the base out of plasticine and made the plaza leading up to it.

At the second floor of Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center is a collection of concept designs for Shanghai World Expo. These are in the form of lay-out plans and scale models.

In 2001, eight firms provided Expo concept plans for Shanghai's bid for the 2010 World Expo. The plan submitted by Arch Studio, a French company, was selected as the foundation of Shanghai's Expo bid.

Daniel Z built this epic recreation of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings. I love the intricate detailing of this set but would never have the patience to build it myself.

Here is a description of the work:

I built this model as a promotional display for a store in Oslo. If you live nearby or visit Oslo you should check it out! The store is called outland and is located next to the main street of Oslo. This is also probably the last MOC you'll see from me the coming months. I will have little time to build and no access to my bricks.

If you recreated a scene from a movie in LEGO, which movie would you choose? I think I would do something from Star Wars.

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit is a roller coaster in Universal Studios Florida. This custom-designed attractionfeatures an on-board sound system to add a soundtrack to its twisted steel track. It opened in the spring of 2009.

Attraction History

On January 11, 2008, Universal Parks & Resorts filed a Notice of Commencement with Orange County, Florida indicating that they were to construct a ride system that they had code-named "Project Rumble." The practice of using code-names in theme park attractions is common; it allows the park to begin construction of a project without revealing to its competitors exactly what it is, until such time as the park itself chooses to announce it. The Notice stated that the contractor is "Maurer Rides GmbH," located in Munich, Germany. The address provided on the form matches that for amusement ride manufacturer Maurer Söhne.
The attraction was announced by Universal officials on March 19, 2008. Although officials did not reveal the entire attraction, they did point out some key features. The roller coaster's vertical lift hill will be 167 feet tall, making it the tallest in the Orlando area. Its design will allow four trains to be on the track at a time and will feature six near-miss encounters and a unique form of vertical loop.
Construction on Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit began in May 2008 with preliminary land clearing. The first pieces of track were installed in December 2008.

Design

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit is an "X-Car Coaster," a proprietary design from Maurer Söhne, and will be the largest roller coaster of its kind in the world. The trains consist of two cars, with each car carrying six riders in three rows of two. A large locking lap bar holds riders safely in place. Maurer Söhne expects the attraction to carry approximately 1,850 riders per hour.[ The attraction will feature an array of safety systems, including a custom-designed evacuation system should a train become disabled on the vertical lift.
The ride vehicles will feature color-changing LEDs for a dynamic appearance, as well as sophisticated audio and video systems for each seat. Guests will be able to select a musical track from one of five genres (classic rock, rap, country, pop and disco) to hear during their experience, a feature similar to another Universal-owned roller coaster, Hollywood Dream: The Ride at sister park Universal Studios Japan. Taking this customization a step further, the ride experience will be filmed, allowing guests to obtain a digital copy of the film, complete with their chosen soundtrack, to add to their webpages or video-sharing sites, such as YouTube.
Universal officials have begun surveying guests to determine which songs should be made available on the attraction. Some of the songs considered thus far include "Gone Country" by Alan Jackson, "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" by Judas Priest, "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow, "Pump It" by The Black Eyed Peas and "Staying Alive" by The BeeGees. Other artists whose songs have been suggested include The Beach Boys, Three Six Mafia and Johnny Cash. While not confirming or denying that these particular songs or artists will appear in the final version of the attraction, it does provide insight into Universal's plans to provide a broad musical experience for its guests.

Track layout

The layout for Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit was initially revealed during Universal Studios' "Grad Bash" events for graduating high school seniors, and has been confirmed by Maurer Söhne through its release of computer-generated images of the roller coaster track. The station will be located between two existing facilities, "Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast" and the Sharp Aquos Theatre in Universal CityWalk.
Rockit (as Maurer Söhne abbreviates it) will depart the station and climb to the top of its 167-foot vertical lift. It then drops to the ground before entering an element named the "double take;" it looks like a standard vertical loop, yet the track twists around such that the train is right-side-up at the top of the loop. The train descends and twists again on the way down then climbs to reach the first of several mid-course brake sections.
The roller coaster exits the brakes and drops back towards street level, passing through a building exterior before entering a series of swooping curves called the "treble clef," which appears, in profile, to have been inspired by the musical notation of the same name. The train climbs the treble clef and exits into another mid-course brake section. Now returning towards the station, the roller coaster enters a series of sharp turns, one nicknamed the "jump cut" and the other the "crowd surfer," as it passes over portions of the queue line for the attraction.
Rockit then enters another mid-course brake section before it prepares to exit the park grounds. It next encounters "drop tuning," named for a type of guitar tuning, which is a quick drop into a landscaped area in front of the Sharp Aquos Theatre. Emerging above the ground, the roller coaster enters a 540-degree helix nicknamed the "plot twist" and then returns to the station via a short section of twists and turns.

The "S.S. Disney", an incredible WDI Project

Today, you will discover an incredible Disney project. So incredible that even in my dreams i would never have thought that WDI could have designed something like this. Really fascinating, as you will see.

The project was called the “S.S Disney” and it’s Mark Hickson who managed the Imagineering development team 15 years ago. Mark started his career at WDI working on the Splash Mountain project for Disneyland, and then became part of the Tokyo Disneyland project office. Over a period of seven years Mark contributed to over 30 Disney projects that included TDL version of Splash Mountain, Toon Town, the new Spaceship Earth Show, the 3-D film "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience", EPCOT Interactive Fountain, Innoventions, etc. He also worked on other Disney projects like the Broadway Production of Beauty and the Beast, Disneyland's 35th Birthday and Tokyo Disneyland’s 5, 10 & 20 years Master Plan.

Mark who now lives in Hawaii is the Chief of Project Controls for the $5.4 Billion Honolulu High-Capacity Transit Corridor Project. As a consultant to the City and County of Honolulu, his responsibilities are to provide leadership in defining and implementing a comprehensive project controls department for the light rail commuter project.

But back in 1993-1994, thanks to his shipbuilding and theme park master planning experience, Mark was asked to work on the “S.S Disney” project. The idea was to transform a super tanker - a huge ship that normally brings oil from the Middle East to other countries - into a “floating theme park”. No kidding! Assemblage Wins Iraqi Parliament Competition

Assemblage has succeeded against a prestigious shortlist – which included Zaha Hadid Architects, Capita Symonds, Fevre Gaucher and ADPI – in an international competition for the new Iraqi parliament complex in Baghdad. The $1Bn USD project challenged contestants to design a new, large scale complex amidst the remnants of a partially built super mosque planned by Saddam Hussein (photos of the existing site here).

The London-based practice will be awarded $250,000 USD and asked to produce a master plan for the surrounding city, as well as additional government buildings, a new hotel and public parks. The anonymous jury plans to exhibit the submitted projects, along with the judging committee’s decision. However, a date has yet to be announced.

Assemblage’s concept for the parliament complex is conceived as a work of urban design and not as one large architectural object. The majority of the complex is formed as a pattern of streets – indoor and outdoor – and green courtyards, connecting an arrangement of buildings of a variety of functions. Against this fabric, key landmark buildings and plazas are highlighted, such as the Council of Representatives and the Federal Council. The dialogue of landmark buildings in a low rise urban grain is highly legible and navigable. It is also flexible, easy to phase, zone, and replace. A grading of family relationships exists within this fabric of buildings. The many courtyards and streets allow excellent daylighting and services access, whilst also providing a variety of identities for groups of users as in an urban environment. An extensive horizontal brise soleil structure extends across the two story fabric, providing continuity of shade and a roof level service zone. A major architectural elevation in its own right, this datum is carefully designed in terms of views from the landmark buildings and forms a plane against which they are read clearly.

The Council of Representatives building is placed as a landmark in the primary arrival plaza on axis to the Zawra Park approach. It has a circular outer shell of monumental brise soleil which protects the building and whose deep shadows tell of the intense Iraqi sun. Encircled within are the two great hemicycles of the Great Hall and the Council Chamber, with technical spaces and services embedded in the spine walls. The charged space between these two great volumes is the Entrance Foyer, further dramatized by raking rooflights. A press conference hall is situated at lower ground level. The public and members may populate the building’s facade by appearing amongst the large fins of the brise soleil. Generous areas adjacent the facade may be occupied on all floors, animating the entire perimeter of the building at all levels. Navigation is simple and intuitive. Users of the building look down from the perimeter areas into the Great Hall and Entrance Foyer, witnessing the motions of government. This transparency in the building is direct: to at once look out over the land and its citizens, and then at those who represent and serve.

A modern parliament building must embody the transparency between citizens and their government which reflects the essential democratic relationship. This is not literal transparency, but is about the building’s feeling of public ownership and accessibility. It must impart the positive possibility of the State: larger than the individual, but supportive and engaging – not aggressive or oppressive.

The Council of Representatives building is formed in the shape of a circle: a strong, simple geometry of great architectural power and lineage. In this context as an image of the State, it is a symbol of convergence and stability. A circle has no one elevation, presenting the same face to all. Divergent axes are co-ordinated and brought into agreement. The building’s circular plan echoes the shapes of the hemicycles within – themselves a geometry of agreement – and allows views out in all directions from the generous perimeter areas. Direct reference is also made to the historic City of Peace, from which Baghdad takes its name. Having stood just north of the parliament site, the circular city was built by the Abbasid Caliph al-Mansour in 766 AD at a time when Baghdad was at a peak of power and prestige.
