DEADLINE PASSED! SEE PAGE 5

Cyprus have been picked to host the UEFA Womens Euro Championships. They need 6 stadiums to host it, 5 have already been decided. These are:
Neo GSP Stadium (Nicosia) 23,400
Makario Stadium (Nicosia) 16,000
Tsirion Stadium (Limassol) 13,150
Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium (Larnaca) 9,300
Paralimni Stadium (Paralimni) 5,800
You have been asked by the Cyprus Football Association to build a new find a suitable location, and show plans for, a new stadium to be used in the championships and then afterwards by a future tenant. It must have a good infrastructure, and be accessible by fans from all around Europe. This includes having good transport links to a local town or city, bust still as close as possible to the town centre. If the train or bus links are not sufficient, it should have a car park capable of holding the cars the crowd uses to attend. You must be able to show its location on a map, as well as renders, screenshots or an uploaded model to show the designs of the stadium. It must also have some VIP and press facilities.
It must hold between 8,000 and 20,000 people, and it must reach Category 1 ground grading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_stadium_categories
This also means the stadium must have a suitable camera gantry, permanent or temporary. Standing is allowed, but at least 8,000 seats is required. Temporary stadiums and stands are allowed, and a roof is not a requirement.

Post your entries here. The deadline is now on the 7th of July at 6.30pm BST. Any questions, just ask or message me. Good Luck!!!

Can it be an athletic stadium?

There is nothing against Athletic stadiums being used in European competitions. 2-3 of the Poland/Ukraine stadiums have running tracks around the track. But just remember it is primarily made for this football tournament. Then again Athletics could be a good way to find future tenants?
Obviously it's not my competition so it's not down to me, but that's my view on it.
Hopefully I'll find time between my exams and going away to put an entry in.

Is there any kind of budget? Will i be deducted points if the stadium would be too expensive for the particular town to afford?

Can it be an athletic stadium?

Yes, Athletic stadiums are fine. This also might be a good idea if you cant find a local football team to take over after the event, which isnt manatory but is important.

Question: Can you demolish an existing stadium to build a new one? (One that you haven't listed above as a host)

Yes, but you must explain why that is worth doing and why the stadium was not any good before. If should be in a state that means it couldnt have been used in the competiotion itself, or there is no point doing it.

Is there any kind of budget? Will i be deducted points if the stadium would be too expensive for the particular town to afford?

It was planning to do it by voting, not by any kind of points system, but voters should consider how viable the stadium would be. There is no budget as such but you shouldn't do something too unrealistic. The town would not be funding it, the Cyprus FA would, but they still dont have an unlimited amount of money.

Is there any requirement for the maximum building area?
Could it has some training grounds?
How many photos should the presentation has? And what should the photos contain? I mean an aerial, stands, facade, and what?
Thank u

No maximum building area, but it is your job to find a suitable location (Go on Google Maps and find an unused area of land somehere in Cyprus, preferably near a City or Town. Bear in mind sites that have not been built on before like a field would be more expensive to buy and build on, but that dosent matter too much.

It can have training grounds and extra pitches, that might be a good idea as it will affect future uses and attract tenants after the event.

A presentation should be about 6 shots imo, but there is no limit and if you have things to show, show them. It should include an arial photo, a shot from inside, a shot of any VIP or press facilities (Like a shot of the main stand or side) and an exterior shot showing the facade from the ground. And if possible a layout of the site and a map showing its location as well, but it is your prresentation, so there arent really any rules regarding that. Just show what you've got.

If the stadium has temporary seats does it matter so long as it meats the 2,000 permanent seats?

Also does the stadium need VIP boxes for the Womens euro?

It doesent acctualy have to have any perminant seats, if you want you could do a completely temporary stadium. Temporary stands or stadiums are fine.

It does not neccacarily need to have VIP Boxes, just VIP facilities, like reserved seats which should be at least 0.5m wide and function rooms for VIP's to eat and drink, and go before and after the game. There should also be at least 20 VIP parking spaces, to meet UEFA catogary 1 ground grading. There must be at least 50 VIP seats in total.

See this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_stadium_categories
To meet catogary 1 ground grading, it does not need to have any VIP hospitality area, but for this it does.

Can we decide whether the stadium we design is a group stage stadium, semi final stadium, or final stadium?

That depends to how big the stadium you build is. If you build an 8,000 capacity stadium, it will be used for the group stages and maybe a QF match. If it is holds 20,000 it will host the semi's and the third placed final. A stadium holding between 10 and 14 thousand with good facilities, which is ideal, will probably host a Quater final match as well as Group Matches, and maybe the 3rd placed final as well if it has great facilities to go with the smaller capacity.

Fill accross one line of the curve, create a component then paste the component onto each line. That's if they're the same length.

I thought that might be better, because of people voting for themself ect. I didnt really decide that. After I know who has entered I will ask a few people to judge with me.
If we did still do voting, is it possible to see who has voted and who hasn't out of the people that have entered? I have never set up a poll on here before.

You dont need it cyprus colors, you could have it the colours to the team that will play there after or something, or the city colours. You dont see new english stadiums with reda d white seats beause they are english. Anyway, I think cyprus' colours are White, Gold and Blue for their national team.

If I picked some judges, it would work something like that. It wouldnt work if everyone voted like that, they'd have to send their top 3 votes to me or something and people who entered couldnt vote, itd just be easier if i picked a few judges. Ill sort that out in the next week or so.

Where should we send the shots? And what size?

Make them into a presentation, and either display them here and I will transfer them to another thread later or if you'd prefer send the presentation to me if you dont want people to see it yet. The presentation should just be the pictures, and a description of where the stadium is located and how it can be used in the future ect. It should also have a map showing its location.

Is anyone else doing an athletic stadium?

no :P

I found myself a kushtie little spot by a harbour with a viable future tenant too :). Gunna have 3 stands (one side is open) so that there is views over the Harbour and Sea.
Currently made all 3 stands, with seats and stairways/entrances on the 2 smaller side stands. I've still got to figure out how I'm going to configure the main stand, taking into account the requirements of VIPs, press, and so on and also still need to do the exterior and the unique roof structure. I'm hardly home for next few days, then going away for a week, so I've only actually got one day where I can do it -.- talk about making it hard for myself, especially considering I've never actually made a stadium in full detail.

The one thing I'm really worried about is my computer performance. I have 4800 seats so far and my computer is really struggling.. still got another 7000 to add. :bash:

The one thing I'm really worried about is my computer performance. I have 4800 seats so far and my computer is really struggling.. still got another 7000 to add. :bash:

If you havent already, start using layers. This way you only need to see what you are acctualy building, or putting seats into, at the time not all the time incresing computer performance. When you come to render it, just show the layers of what you are rendering, for example turn off seats and the entire east stand if you are rendering the west stand facade. When you do an ariel shot with everything in, turn off seats if you have to.

Well I haven't specifically be doing layers, I've been using components though and hiding them (which does a similar job I think).. had a minor setback this morning when I had the seats hidden then moved the stadium, switched the seats back on and they were no longer in the stadium. Rookie mistake. It wasn't really building it I was worrying about, it was unhiding everything to take the final shots, so thanks for the idea about hiding what's not in view when doing my final shots, it should mean I'm ok :)

Also kaz, if you make a curve in sketchup, it is actually made up of straight lines (typically 12). So when you make a big curve like this where it's probably about 100m across, you'll have straight lines of about 10m each.. then you just treat each straight line as a different section and you just put the seats in like you would any other stand.

Thanks, aha yes I do remember your project but I wasn't thinking about it when coming up with my idea, I just wanted to make use of the location in the best way possible and take into consideration the possible views. The shape is very similar though and I gotta admit I'm finding it difficult to get it how I want it to look (particularly the roof of the slanted bit) so well done for doing such a good job on yours especially as it was a much more complex shape than mine.

I'm going to a holiday trip, so I have to post my unfinished stadium. Lots of detail is missing, but the most important things are ready.

Here's the location of my stadium in the city of Kyrenia. Maps and satellite pics from the Google Maps.

http://i49.tinypic.com/dpigl3.png

Here aerial of the stadium site. I should have move the stadium a little bit to left, but had no time to do new renders.

http://i47.tinypic.com/14myvdy.jpg

Main stand seen from the other side. Main stand has capacity of 2696 regular seats, 8 VIP boxes with 12 seats each, camera platform and 44 seats for the media.

http://i45.tinypic.com/152htgh.jpg

Wide view from the main stand media seats. Stands holds 4842 spectators. I was going to add some temporary seating to reach the required 8000 seats but had no time to do it. No time for the roof either.

http://i49.tinypic.com/abrtl0.jpg

As I wrote earlier, I added some more sport facilities than just a athletics and football. Here is the bottom floor of the main stand.

http://i49.tinypic.com/23hognt.jpg

On the second floor, there is restaurant, concession stands and toilets for the spectators. Third floor has some offices (used by UEFA during the games) for the future tenants and fourth floor is the VIP area. No time. No renders. Sorry.

And here is one more render from the main stand side.

Not only does that look great, it also looks massive! 20k is the limit remember (you can make it bigger but you risk a points deduction).

^ Very good. One question, how to the people with the seats above the dugouts by the players tunnel get there? There are steps to a wall at the top and bottom.

Keep them coming guys!

Now got 4 judges, possible one more to total 5 judges.

There is a 80 cm wide free line (1 row), i didn't make seats there.

Argh was away last week and then had things to do and been at work a lot more this week than I was expecting to so I'm not going to be finished on time :(
Oh well, doubt I would have won anyway, there are a lot of amazing entries already and there will probably be more tomorrow. I'll just take my time and post it in the general stadium designs thread when I'm done :). Good luck everyone

As I'm no longer entering my stadium, I would be interested in being the fifth judge if you're still looking for one?

OK the deadline has passed. i assume everyone has entered who was going to? There were a couple of people who posted designs in progress but didnt do a final entry?

Once I know everyone has entered, I will set up an entries/judging thread. It would be unfair to do it now if somone is an hour away from finishing. If noone replies by tomorow morning, i will post the thread. Like i said i am going on holiday on Monday morning until Friday morning so i wont be able to post anything then. I could extend the deadline until next friday, but that wouldnt be fair on the people who have already entered and have done it in less time. Let me know what you think.
