The excavations in the island are among the most extensive in the Mediterranean. Delos had a position as a holy sanctuary for a millennium before Olympian Greek mythology made it the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. http://farm2.staticflickr.com/1110/1438351045_02bbee47a1_z.jpg?zz=1 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandroriz/1438351045/) Delos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandroriz/1438351045/) by sandroriz (http://www.flickr.com/people/sandroriz/), on Flickr The meeting hall of the Poseidoniasts of Beirut housed an association of merchant, warehousemen, shipowners and innkeepers during the early years of Roman hegemony, late 2nd century BC. Entering this home you would have encountered this long hallway with sculptures of the owners (Cleopatra & Diouresis) of the house at the end. To the right was a ballroom with another nice mosaic on the floor and to the left was a garden room with a lovely view of the harbor and the rest of the town. If you're wondering why so many Greek statues are headless, there are two main reasons. The first is that if you're a pirate it's much easier to carry off a head than the entire chunk of marble. The second, is that often the heads were sculpted separately and then screwed into the rest of the statue. There is an entire room of heads back at the Archeological Museum in Athens. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3236/3969478849_a57e693157_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40085288@N07/3969478849/) Mykonos - Delos 1005 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40085288@N07/3969478849/) by Apel.les (http://www.flickr.com/people/40085288@N07/), on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2434/3970250944_4874fc87bf_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40085288@N07/3970250944/) Mykonos - Delos 1024 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40085288@N07/3970250944/) by Apel.les (http://www.flickr.com/people/40085288@N07/), on Flickr Sanii July 9th, 2012, 10:10 PM http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6022/5933698203_c1dea2c1c7_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29841742@N06/5933698203/) At Delos Museum (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29841742@N06/5933698203/) by mikyn (http://www.flickr.com/people/29841742@N06/), on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2312/2041444109_064003d54c_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/14171139@N08/2041444109/) Greece - Delos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/14171139@N08/2041444109/) by Walker* (http://www.flickr.com/people/14171139@N08/), on Flickr Sanii July 12th, 2012, 11:58 AM http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2434/3721525399_b61e1fd0a2_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3721525399/) Delos 07 03 09_1001 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3721525399/) by HBarrison (http://www.flickr.com/people/hbarrison/), on Flickr The Doric Temple of Isis was built on a high over-looking hill at the beginning of the Roman period to venerate the familiar trinity of Isis, the Alexandrian Serapis and Anubis. down, left on the photo http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2636/3722337256_01c568654d_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3722337256/) Delos 07 03 09_1003 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3722337256/) by HBarrison (http://www.flickr.com/people/hbarrison/), on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2589/3721525899_6ba99e63b5_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3721525899/) Delos 07 03 09_1006 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/3721525899/) by HBarrison (http://www.flickr.com/people/hbarrison/), on Flickr Sanii July 13th, 2012, 11:02 AM The Terrace of the Lions also dedicated to Apollo by the people of Naxos shortly before 600 BC, had originally nine to twelve squatting, snarling marble guardian lions along the Sacred Way; one is inserted over the main gate to the Venetian Arsenal. The lions create a monumental avenue comparable to Egyptian avenues of sphinxes. (There is a Greek sphinx in the Delos Museum.) The original Eastern Gate of the 2nd Temple (Herod's Temple) is actually below the existing gate. Several years ago someone fell into one of the Muslim graves right in front of this gate, and found an arch which formed the top of the Eastern Gate during the 2nd Temple period. I have seen pictures of this. However, they have now cemented over this, and placed a wrought iron fence around it, so nobody can explore it. It is through the Eastern Gate that Christians believe the Messiah will return. (Jews also believe that the Messiah will come through this gate.) Because of this prophecy, Ottoman Sultan Suleiman I sealed off the Golden Gate in 1541 to prevent the Messiah's entrance. The Muslims also built a cemetery in front of the gate, in the belief that the precursor to the Messiah, Elijah, would not be able to pass through http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3339/3328112168_20aa29cdef_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tianderson/3328112168/) Golden Gate (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tianderson/3328112168/) by Mwesigwa (http://www.flickr.com/people/tianderson/), on Flickr Ighilghili July 24th, 2012, 05:41 PM Algeria Neolithic monument | Tin-Amali http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=414 Yann Arthus Bertrand Neolithic monument | Djanet http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=415 Yann Arthus Bertrand Ighilghili July 24th, 2012, 05:53 PM Algeria Roman Theater of Guelma http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=493 http://media.lonelyplanet.com/lpimg/28098/28098-4/preview.jpg Djemila | Roman Cuicul Under the name of Cuicul, the city was built during the first century A.D. as a military garrison situated on a narrow triangular plateau. The terrain is somewhat rugged, being located at the confluence of two rivers. Cuicul's builders followed a standard plan with a forum at the center and two main streets, the Cardo Maximus and the Decumanus Maximus, composing the major axes. The city was initially populated by a colony of soldiers, and eventually grew to become a large trading market. The resources that contributed to the prosperity of the city were essentially agricultural (cereals, olive trees and farm). http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=495 http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=496 http://www.yannarthusbertrand2.org/index2.php?option=com_datsogallery&func=wmark&oid=497 Yann Arthus Bertrand Ighilghili July 24th, 2012, 06:08 PM Algeria Temple of Septime Severes l Ist century l Djemila http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2683/4159333289_07b2510a73_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomtalib/4159333289/in/photostream/ http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3208/2696755534_14328cdf4e_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/cybjorg/2696755534/sizes/l/in/photostream/ Royal mausoleum of Mauretania| 1st century B.C The Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania is a funerary monument on the road between Cherchell and Algiers, in Algeria. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman periods it was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3453/5805484313_c0539cbc0d_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sherpa-fa/5805484313/) Athens - The Temple of Olympian Zeus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sherpa-fa/5805484313/) by Sherpa.fa (http://www.flickr.com/people/sherpa-fa/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 05:08 PM http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6134/5989679112_7240f53739_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/drtana/5989679112/) Temple of Olympian Zeus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/drtana/5989679112/) by drtana (http://www.flickr.com/people/drtana/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 05:09 PM http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6020/5989678308_294ea6b491_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/drtana/5989678308/) Temple of Olympian Zeus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/drtana/5989678308/) by drtana (http://www.flickr.com/people/drtana/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 05:11 PM http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4054/4692059758_03e67ac2f7_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/photogon/4692059758/) Temple of Olympian Zeus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/photogon/4692059758/) by photogon (http://www.flickr.com/people/photogon/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 11:43 PM http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6181/6211327034_060d9617c8_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikoseleftheriadis/6211327034/) Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounio, Attica, Greece _sepia (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikoseleftheriadis/6211327034/) by NikosEleftheriadis (http://www.flickr.com/people/nikoseleftheriadis/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 11:44 PM http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6046/6213184559_daa7bc3587_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikoseleftheriadis/6213184559/) Temple of Poseidon north view_2 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikoseleftheriadis/6213184559/) by NikosEleftheriadis (http://www.flickr.com/people/nikoseleftheriadis/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 11:55 PM http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4035/4715935145_0f7e7e982d_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/krausauce/4715935145/) temple of poseidon (http://www.flickr.com/photos/krausauce/4715935145/) by Krausauce (http://www.flickr.com/people/krausauce/), on Flickr Sanii August 10th, 2012, 11:58 PM The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion was built circa 440 BC by the Greeks. The temple is located about 500 m north-west of the Acropolis and about 1 km due west of the modern centre of Athens, Syntagma Square. It was built in about 449 BC on what was then the western edge of the city of Athens, in a district which contained many foundries and metalwork shops. It was therefore dedicated to Hephaestus, the god of blacksmiths and metallurgy and was designed by Ictinus, one of the architects who worked on the Parthenon. Unlike the Parthenon, the temple has all its columns and pediments intact, and even has most of its original roof. Its friezes and other decorations, however, have inevitably been badly damaged by thieves and looters over the centuries. It owes its survival to its conversion to a Christian Church, the Church of St George, in the 7th century AD. The survival of the exterior came at the cost of the ancient interior, which was removed and replaced by the structures of a Christian church. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6225/6217157585_aafe986de9_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/stoupaduck/6217157585/) Ag Apostoli & Hephaestion (http://www.flickr.com/photos/stoupaduck/6217157585/) by stoupaduck (http://www.flickr.com/people/stoupaduck/), on Flickr Sanii August 12th, 2012, 01:24 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3193/3486324629_c50a1a107b_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486324629/) Temple of Hephaestus with the Acropolis behind (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486324629/) by brf (http://www.flickr.com/people/brf/), on Flickr Sanii August 12th, 2012, 01:26 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3628/3487144316_6aaa0b7fde_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3487144316/) Agora of Athens (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3487144316/) by brf (http://www.flickr.com/people/brf/), on Flickr Sanii August 12th, 2012, 01:26 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3298/3486304817_81abd11369_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486304817/) Random Statues (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486304817/) by brf (http://www.flickr.com/people/brf/), on Flickr Sanii August 12th, 2012, 01:28 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3372/3486298403_50f67de16c_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486298403/) Temple of Hephaestus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3486298403/) by brf (http://www.flickr.com/people/brf/), on Flickr Sanii August 12th, 2012, 01:30 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3637/3487105250_91d5813809_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3487105250/) Temple of Hephaestus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brf/3487105250/) by brf (http://www.flickr.com/people/brf/), on Flickr Sanii August 14th, 2012, 02:19 AM Ancient Corinth derived its prosperity from its position on a narrow isthmus between the Saronic and Corinthian gulfs. I am a newbie here and this is probably my first posting. Well, these pictures and images show the construction work done in ancient times. These give truly a nostalgic effect while viewing. It feels good whenever such places are being visited. These buildings tell the stories of their own times and they really are the heritage of their own places and such heritages should be preserved and secured. italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:33 AM Ajanta , India http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xI5twzFcSn8/TbH9iZeUHYI/AAAAAAAAA48/v4EqyzVtdAo/s1600/cuevas%2Bajanta%2B4.JPG http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xI5twzFcSn8/TbH9iZeUHYI/AAAAAAAAA48/v4EqyzVtdAo/s1600/cuevas%2Bajanta%2B4.JPG italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:34 AM Ajanta , India http://farm1.static.flickr.com/206/463320296_a13dc8d1f4_o.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/206/463320296_a13dc8d1f4_o.jpg italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:37 AM Ellora , India http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/15/Ellora_cave16_001.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/15/Ellora_cave16_001.jpg italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:38 AM Ellora , India http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7160/6550903677_e6ff2f19fa_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9706762@N06/6550903677/) Ajanta-Ellora (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9706762@N06/6550903677/) por wrlord2001 (http://www.flickr.com/people/9706762@N06/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:40 AM Lalibela , Etiopia http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aEdElXuUoLU/T1x3hPY8OWI/AAAAAAAAGQU/STO5-Uj0rhE/s1600/120317%2BChristmas%2Bin%2BLalibela%2B1.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aEdElXuUoLU/T1x3hPY8OWI/AAAAAAAAGQU/STO5-Uj0rhE/s1600/120317%2BChristmas%2Bin%2BLalibela%2B1.jpg italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:42 AM Ellora , India http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7014/6550931909_4397b5b399_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9706762@N06/6550931909/) Ajanta-Ellora (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9706762@N06/6550931909/) por wrlord2001 (http://www.flickr.com/people/9706762@N06/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:45 AM Ajanta , India http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2065/2372010946_32e4edf0be_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gus_smedstad/2372010946/) Ajanta 2660 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gus_smedstad/2372010946/) por gus_smedstad (http://www.flickr.com/people/gus_smedstad/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano August 16th, 2012, 03:46 AM Paestum , Italy Jupiter Temple http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2424/3947465325_42dedf1eb8_z.jpg?zz=1 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertopatrizi/3947465325/) Tempio di Giove (http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertopatrizi/3947465325/) por mondopinguino (http://www.flickr.com/people/robertopatrizi/), en Flickr adam_india August 16th, 2012, 05:13 PM Ellora , India I visited Ellora in October last year and have a photo thread on it here :) : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1455833 Hebrewtext August 16th, 2012, 06:22 PM Bara'am , Israel the ancient synagogue http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/9568/2744271.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/854/2744271.jpg/) http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5533/ibaram02.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/84/ibaram02.jpg/) http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1976/israeltourguidebaramsyn.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/89/israeltourguidebaramsyn.jpg/) http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8485/pikiwikiisrael8826thean.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/7/pikiwikiisrael8826thean.jpg/) http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/3624/69297661.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/826/69297661.jpg/) Urbanista1 August 16th, 2012, 06:40 PM India is absolutely amazing, such an archeological wealth, never been there, maybe it's time. brick84 August 16th, 2012, 10:35 PM Archeological Site of Solunto, near Palermo - Italy Un po di foto di Solunto che ho trovato sul web.. http://i39.tinypic.com/2vwbtwg.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/33lp1f5.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/j932uq.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/2vwbtwg.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/xcopsj.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/1qidnd.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/353b2n5.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/dmfj8p.jpg brick84 August 16th, 2012, 10:45 PM Agrigento (Sicily) - Italy 'Valle dei Templi' the largest archeological area in the world http://jerzak.eu/sicily/SicilyColor/20-skan09.jpg http://jerzak.eu/ http://www.gsamasternews.it/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/agrigento-valle-dei-templi-5.jpg www.gsamasternews.it http://www.windoweb.it/desktop_italia/foto_sicilia/foto_sicilia_varie/foto_sicilia_260_agrigento_valle_dei%20_templi.jpg www.windoweb.it http://www.settemuse.it/viaggi_italia_sicilia/AG_agrigento/foto_agrigento_001_valle_dei_templi.JPG www.settemuse.it AnOldBlackMarble August 17th, 2012, 01:06 AM Gobekli Tepe. Dedicated to the god of wine and fertility, it hosted the City Dionysia festival. Amongst those to have competed are all of the renowned dramatists of the classical era, such as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes. A stone-version of the theatre, which was built c. 325 BCE, seated between 14,000 to 17,000 spectators. After this the theatre fell into disuse and little is recorded until 61 CE where there is evidence of major renovations done by the emperor Nero. The remains of a restored and redesigned Roman version can still be seen at the site today. http://farm1.staticflickr.com/122/311626534_5f75a01be0_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/strychnine/311626534/) Theater of Dionysus (http://www.flickr.com/photos/strychnine/311626534/) by Strychnine (http://www.flickr.com/people/strychnine/), on Flickr Sanii August 22nd, 2012, 01:53 AM http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5162/5243181182_1a1062be81_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/australiansstudyingabroad/5243181182/) Greece, Athens, Theatre of Dionysus and New Acropolis Museum from Acropolis (http://www.flickr.com/photos/australiansstudyingabroad/5243181182/) by Australians Studying Abroad (http://www.flickr.com/people/australiansstudyingabroad/), on Flickr Sanii August 22nd, 2012, 01:55 AM http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3055/5767688988_6a262132ed_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/25071770@N05/5767688988/) Acropolis_Athens_Greece (http://www.flickr.com/photos/25071770@N05/5767688988/) by koorosh.nozad (http://www.flickr.com/people/25071770@N05/), on Flickr Sanii August 22nd, 2012, 01:59 AM http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5082/5242558593_c650191857_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/australiansstudyingabroad/5242558593/) Greece, Athens, Acropolis, Erachtheion from West (1) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/australiansstudyingabroad/5242558593/) by Australians Studying Abroad (http://www.flickr.com/people/australiansstudyingabroad/), on Flickr potiz81 August 22nd, 2012, 09:07 AM Amazing marble landmarks of Athens, the absolute definition of "classic"! brick84 August 22nd, 2012, 09:23 AM Agrigento (Italy) - Temple of Concordia http://i40.tinypic.com/33p7tol.jpg http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1498814 Hebrewtext August 22nd, 2012, 10:16 AM Israel : the oldest burial site on planet earth (150,000 years old): The oldest known ritual burial of modern humans at Qafzeh in Israel: a double burial of what is thought to be a mother and child. It lay 183 metres (600 ft) above sea level, on the southeast side of Monte Catalfano in a naturally strong situation, and commanding a fine view. Excavations have brought to light considerable remains of the ancient town, belonging entirely to the Roman period, and a good deal still remains unexplored. The traces of two ancient roads, paved with large blocks of stone, which led up to the city, may still be followed, and the whole summit of Monte Catalfano is covered with fragments of ancient walls and foundations of buildings. Among these may be traced the remains of two temples, of which some capitals and portions of friezes, have been discovered. An archaic oriental Artemis sitting between a lion and a panther, found here, is in the museum at Palermo, with other antiquities from this site. What's important is what they can tell us about the past. An iron age hill fort in Sweden is as important as a bronze age barrow in England, which is as important as a roman villa in France. There are enormous amounts of fantastic archaeology in Europe that isn't roman or greek. Greek and roman ruins tend to be very photogenic, though. ayanamikun February 6th, 2013, 04:07 PM You can distinguish the one ruin from the other, there are not all the same, some have greatest importance than others. And how you do it? The history and the people that are connected to it. This is why the Greco-Roman world will always take the spotlight, because most sites there are connected to real historical people, and recorded events. Most other civilizations never managed to record history as well, and therefore the importance of their ruins is hampered by lack of good knowledge of the past. ayanamikun February 6th, 2013, 05:50 PM Temple of Athena Apteros Nike (wingless Victory) was built between 427 and 424 BC, during the Peace of Nicias. It is a tetrastyle (four column) Ionic structure with a colonnaded portico at both front and rear facades (amphiprostyle), designed by the architect Kallikrates. It has a prominent position on a steep bastion at the south west corner of the Acropolis to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. It was erected on top of the remains of an earlier 6th century BC temple to Athena, demolished by the Persians in 480 BC. The total height from the stylobate to the acme of the pediment while the temple remained intact was a modest 23 feet. The ratio of height to diameter of the columns is 7:1, the slender proportions creating an elegance and refinement not encountered in the normal 9:1 or 10:1 of Ionic buildings. Constructed from white pentelic marble, it was built in stages as war-starved funding allowed. The friezes of the building's entablature were decorated on all sides with relief sculpture in the idealized classical style of the 5th century BC. The north frieze depicted a battle between Greeks entailing cavalry. The south frieze showed the decisive victory over the Persians at the battle of Plataea. The east frieze showed an assembly of the gods Athena, Zeus and Poseidon, rendering Athenian religious beliefs and reverence for the gods bound up in the social and political climate of 5th Century Athens. The artist Callimachus is credited with the sculptures of Nikes on the frieze of the Temple of Athena Nike. His reputation in the 2nd century CE was reported in an aside by Pausanias as one "although not of the first rank of artists, was yet of unparalleled cleverness, so that he was the first to drill holes through stones"—that is, in order to enhance surface effects of light and shade in locks of hair, foliage and other details Callimachus is credited with inventing the Corinthian capital, which Roman architects erected into one of the Classical orders http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e5/Temple_of_athena_nike_2010.jpg http://www.about-athens-greece.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Acropolis-Temple-of-Athena-Nike-Athens.jpg http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6808/562848065087bb9949c2o.jpg brick84 February 9th, 2013, 02:32 PM Siracusa - Sicily Temple of Apollo http://www.casevacanzevittorini.it/files/64-gallery_4d73d801a3978_OrtigiaTempiodiApollo.jpg www.casevacanzevittorini.it http://files.casavacanzeminosse.webnode.it/200000033-59d755bc99/tempio%20di%20Apollo.jpg http://files.casavacanzeminosse.webnode.it http://www.webalice.it/pietro.l.ferrari/album%20noto/slides/Siracusa%20-%20tempio%20di%20Apollo.JPG www.webalice.it http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7044/6946504855_009bd44359_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com ayanamikun February 9th, 2013, 03:13 PM Hadrian's Library, Athens http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/olydoolittles/2010%20Greece/Athens/other%20sites/HadriansLibrary.jpg http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7448/athens213.jpg http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6623/greecet.jpg ayanamikun February 9th, 2013, 10:10 PM The Choragic Monument of Lysicrates built 335/334 BC, a wealthy patron of musical performances in the Theater of Dionysus It is the first ever documented use of the Corinthian order on the exterior of a structure http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/2149/monumentdeliscratesaate.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2197/20100410athina1542.jpg italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:23 PM I know, in the entire world's exist incredible archaeological sites You can't say that one set of archaeological remains are more important than another. What's important is what they can tell us about the past. An iron age hill fort in Sweden is as important as a bronze age barrow in England, which is as important as a roman villa in France. There are enormous amounts of fantastic archaeology in Europe that isn't roman or greek. Greek and roman ruins tend to be very photogenic, though. italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:28 PM Great Pics :cheers2: italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:29 PM Baalbeck , Lebanon http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4045/4672101802_cfa41b75b8_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelallangrant/4672101802/) Baalbeck Temple of Juipter (http://www.flickr.com/photos/michaelallangrant/4672101802/) por Michaelallangrant (http://www.flickr.com/people/michaelallangrant/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:35 PM Jerash , Jordan http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8511/8454462664_be22f2d0bd_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/91425681@N03/8454462664/) Jerash, Jordan (http://www.flickr.com/photos/91425681@N03/8454462664/) por Sattoof (http://www.flickr.com/people/91425681@N03/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:39 PM Pula , Croatia http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7067/7149848123_4d20305673_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/orion1611/7149848123/) Arch of the Sergii, Pula, Croatia (http://www.flickr.com/photos/orion1611/7149848123/) por Orion1611 (http://www.flickr.com/people/orion1611/), en Flickr italiano_pellicano February 9th, 2013, 11:40 PM Pula , Croatia http://farm2.staticflickr.com/1160/826173517_9f6c329ba5_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/vinkosunde/826173517/) Pula - Croatia 1 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/vinkosunde/826173517/) por Vinko Sunde (http://www.flickr.com/people/vinkosunde/), en Flickr Chadoh25 February 10th, 2013, 05:37 AM Amazing photos! thekh February 10th, 2013, 06:20 AM Phanom Rung, one of the most important Khmer ruins in Thailand http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4052/4582495562_837ffa2042_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/arnisd/4582495562/ Photo by Arnis Dzedins (http://www.flickr.com/people/arnisd/) The Main structure http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8447703123_87ceb278bb_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarmu/8447703123/ Photo by Sam Gao (http://www.flickr.com/people/sarmu/) italiano_pellicano February 10th, 2013, 06:59 PM very nice ayanamikun February 10th, 2013, 10:36 PM Tower of the Winds, Athens http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/8799/towerofthewindsathen2.jpg thekh February 12th, 2013, 06:09 PM Phimai- Khmer ruin in Thailand http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8078/8447696535_031acaff9e_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarmu/8447696535/ Photo was taken bySam Gao (http://www.flickr.com/people/sarmu/) thekh February 14th, 2013, 07:01 PM Wat Phou- Khmer ruin in Laos http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2595/3671575774_88119924fe_o.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/extremeambient/3671575774/ photo by extremeambient (http://www.flickr.com/people/extremeambient/) http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6188/6139700538_d2f6f80ce6_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/speerboom/6139700538/in/photostream/ photo by Stefan Peerboom JMGA196 February 14th, 2013, 10:36 PM Mixco Viejo, Guatemala http://imageshack.us/a/img26/1885/eocpf.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img856/7042/oi3pr.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img853/7057/xdlws.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img94/958/zhkal.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img4/7879/xqvea.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img840/5273/fayxm.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img689/6180/rljyl.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img802/5946/97fwd.jpg JMGA196 February 14th, 2013, 11:05 PM Acrópolis Norte, Tikal, Guatemala http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3545/pics51a1.jpg Se puede observar en la planta de sección de ese sector el numero de habitaciones que se encontraban en cada una de las pirámides.
