Glen Innes Music & Arts Centre UPDATE

In this update the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board is delighted to announce:
•
Funding of $8m to build the centre has been confirmed in Council’s Long-term Plan
•
A design and master planning team has been selected. The team will develop a concept design for the centre and a site master plan for Ruapotaka Reserve
•
Your invitation to a community hui and open day on Saturday 14 July, 10am-4pm, to celebrate the funding announcement and meet the design and master planning team.

Long-term Plan Funding
The music and arts centre has been allocated funding of $8 million over a three-year period, from July 2012 to July 2015. This funding will cover all of the design and construction costs of the centre.

Design and Site Master Planning Team
The design and master planning team is called Archimedia+. Archimedia+ is a team assembled specifically to work on the music and arts centre project. The team are:

Lindsay Mackie, Hamish Cameron and Adam Taylor, Architects, Archimedia

Bernard Makoare, Cultural Consultant
•
Debbie Tikao, Landscape Architect, Natural Habitats
•
David Fullbrook, Sustainability Expert, eCubed Building Workshop.

The Archimedia+ team are thrilled to have been selected for this commission, which they see as “a precious opportunity to evoke the identity of the local community and enhance their daily experience through exceptional design”. Community Open Day
The Archimedia+ team will work closely with the community on the design and master planning. We invite you to a community open day to meet the team and share your ideas for the future of Ruapotaka Reserve and the music and arts centre:

Glen Innes Community Hall and Ruapotaka Marae, Ruapotaka Reserve, 96-106 Line Rd, Glen Innes

You can drop in whenever it’s most convenient to you. Presentations will run at different times and displays will be up all day with plenty of people available at all times to answer your questions and talk with you about the project.

Thankfully not .... they are busy with the colour study and looks as if it is going to be very bright :colgate: There's a nice little video on their facebook page.

This side of Auckland is going through a fantastic transformation, with the AMETI, Panmure Interchange, Train Station at G.I, Stonefields, Lunn Ave etc .... plus, some very affordable housing which may fall into the Zone 2 of the zoning of the City, this could mean a 12-15 min train journey in to the CBD and even quicker to Sylvia Park

I think this is the area to keep an eye on over the next couple of years

Very true indeed - has anybody got patronage figures for GI Station - has usage increased a lot ? If not, I am sure that in the future it will become one of the busiest and will have to be upgraded again :cheers:

Yes, in 2003 there were 216 boardings per day, in 2011 there were 1303 although that isn't up much from 2010.

Sydney, i know you do out and about, have you ever taken any photographs of the train journey along this Eastern Line, i might try it myself but running along Tamaki Drive, over Oraki Basin and then past Panmure Basin, this might be one of the nicest train lines in Auckland

thoroughly agree.. with Rangitoto and the water it seems as if the train ride is on water on your way to Orakei. Also all the bush before the tunnel is nice and the train goes almost at full speed along eastern line unlike the currently slloooow western line

that is true lol.. kinda frustrating arnt they. well, semi-fast :L

I live in Kingsland and it's so frustrating knowing that the train could get me to and from town in ten minutes if not for having to go through Newmarket.

I have a pic of the Orakei train station but that is about all that I have - I must agree, it is my favourite of the lines, just stunning - "gliding" over the water :)

I've only been on a train in Auckland once and it was on the eastern line - from Sylvia Park to Britomart back in 2008 or 9. The views were indeed nice but what I remember most is thinking how bumpy and slow it seemed (crappy trains on crappy tracks i guess?), and then being quite awe-struck by the 'cool'-ness of Britomart station at the end of the journey.

I look forward to the day the rest of Auckland's rail network matches that coolness.

Funny thing is if you'd done a poll of Aucklanders back then probably most of them would have said the same or would have been surprised Auckland even had a train network, I knew people who lived in Auckland for 5 years from around 1999 to 2004 and didn't realise there actually were trains here, for all intents and purposes we didn't if we are honest.

Matt L should know the full timetable. I wonder if AT will need beta testers prior to introduction.

^^ Still heaps to do and the first train doesn't arrive till the middle of next year and it will have to have months of testing. You can bet some body parts that they will be doing everything possible to have things at least signed off in time to have Len drive one into Britomart before the mayoral elections next year but we won't really have enough to put into service till 2014
