Maybe not yet, but by the middle of next year this is going to be boomtown, it's been around 14 years since we had a boom, it's almost overdue!!!

if everything i've seen on the boards gets approved, there will be tower cranes all over the place, tho most of what i've seen is in the 20 to 30 story range, there are a sprinkling of 40 to 60 story projects, even if only 50% of what i've seen gets built, it will still be significant.!!!

Where are your statistics?

Only 21 500 + footers and none under construction for the last decade, pretty anemic.
Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, NY, Miami, Dallas etc all have 500 footers u/c or breaking ground

Try this thread for some projects going on in downtown LA area alone . Which I think is basically the 21- 500 footers youve mentioned. You are correct that last decade did not see a building explosion in downtown. But that was last decade. Downtown LA is just beginning to break out with its renaissance. Many of the projects proposed on this site have been approved and will be under construction within the year or so.

But most of us here are more excited about Grand Avenue and LA Live type projects than 500 feet buildings, so if you are a new poster, you may find topics that interest you specifically, in other city forums that are not LA as this forum tends to talk about more than skyscrapers.

If you are interesting in other building types, you'll find that LA has more developments than most cities.

I think he means in terms of active posters/people compared to those in other city forums.

You must remember, nobodys going to erect any towers if there is not some sort of guarentee that they will be leased or in the case of condos, rented/sold. like i said its been around 14 years since the last boom, give it 6 months and you will get some of your 500' buildings here.

also remember Los Angeles is much larger than most of the other citys you mentioned, the local office/residential market has to compete with other large local citys like, Long Beach, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, and Orange county. out here you can drive 80 miles in any direction (from downtown LA) and STILL be in the metro area, not many other citys are challenged like this!!!!

Hello all. I think it should be noted that there has been ALOT of interest in older, pre-siesmic safe buildings. Of course, they are not very tall.

I was on a loft tour of the Barlett Building @ 7th and Spring and looked out from the roof at all the 13-story office buildings down Spring Street. Whatta beautiful sight- all topped off at the same height! Little has changed since the 1900s. Slowly but surely every one of them will be fully occupied.

Great forum, by the way.

Well the first tower of the Elleven housing project in Downtown LA (3 towers of 13, 19 and 27 stories) sold out in 14 hours and that is true for about every new condo project or conversion project that ahs taken place in downtown LA int he last 5 years. There are currently 10,000+ units U/C proposed or recently finished in DT LA along with the LA Live Project, the Grand ave project, the Two 50 story towers next to Sci arc and bout 40 -50 total towers ranging fro 15 - 65 stories under construction or about to break ground. There is plenty going on and new pojects are announced daily. SSC has a much more active LA contigent and if you check out the Downtown LA thread over there you will see all the projects i listed.
