I wanted to hate Math but it was so easy for me. I think my favorite class was actually (Homeroom). Might seem silly but that's where you always found out where the DP was going to be!!!!!

Yeah, Algebra 1 and 2 seems easier for me but we never took Algebra 3 at high school in CA.

First of all,my comment wasn't supposed to upset anybody, but it's my opinion, and I truly would be bored if I were to live in either Chicago or New York, and I hate snowy winters...

I happen to enjoy the Mountains,Beaches,Deserts and Valleys, and Chicago or New York don't have those...

Chicago and New York are beautiful cities though with all those magnificent skyscrapers.

Right, right. And I assume you've been to both Chicago and
New York. You've done all there is to do, seen all there is to see? Wait...what am I doing? How can I even question the great Caliguy2005. I mean, being from a city where all we know is business, business, business, who am I to question your undenyable knowledge?

Honestly, I don't want any LAvsCHI drama going on here, but if this guy wants to act like Mr. Know-it-all then throw out a blanket statement like that, well I'll be damned if a Chicagoan or New Yorker doesn't reply.

You guys wonder why people start trouble in the LA forum, well it's comments like that from people like Caliguy2005. LA forumers don't jump on me, I'm not trying to start any shit, but you've got to see where I'm coming from here. Just read that, it's got trouble written all over it.

But like I said, what do I know, I should go file a tax return or something since up here we're all about business.

in anywhere among these 248 posts, did we ever determine if LA would like to be more Chicago or New York like? And, if so, why?

The answer was no, and the general feeling is that this is a stupid and demeaning query. If you are that interested, I have one for you. Given the recent sprawl of suburban development west, north, and south of Chicago; the necessity of auto use to live in areas like Naperville and Schaumberg; the destruction of good, rich Illinois farmland, and the increasing levels of pollution in Cook County; do you think Chicago may grow into the next Los Angeles? :bash:

^SVS; no--transit usage is up and many Chicago suburbs are beginning to cash in on having (metra) stations in their downtowns. As the suburbs grow, so does the rail system (Metra is expanding quite quickly). Not to mention that the mayor has put a new emphasis on transit-oriented development in the city neighborhoods this year.

Still witty, though! ;)

Well, I agree with you. Chicago is not going to turn into LA and LA is not going to turn into Chicago and neither one will turn into New York, even though history and economics and chance may lead one to outrank the other for a while. My complaint if I really have one is that when you phrase a question in this manner it implies a ranking value which is really not there, i.e when Los Angeles grows up, it will turn into New York or Chi. The cities are all unique, I enjoy all of them in different ways and for different things and am very comfortable wandering around them all. This "My city is better than your city" thing is getting old, especially since I consider them all my cities.

I'd really hate to see L.A. turn into another N.Y.C. or another Chicago.

L.A. is fine (not perfect) the way it is.

The one thing I would like to see the city of L.A. improve it's the public transportation. I think we need more subway lines spreading to other cities and also more suburban trains to reach Orange County and the Inland Empire.

I know the city is working on that, but we still need more. Once we have them, it might take a while for souther californians to start using public transportation since we are very dependant on driving our own vehicles. Here in southern california a lot of people own more than one car and are not very good in using the public mass transit systems like people in N.Y. and Chicago where many people don't even own a car... maybe they can't afford one :)

Los Angeles is among the world's most beloved cities. What was at one time a rough uncivilized town of the old West where public hangings were common in the 1800's has blossomed into a modern world class city of today.
http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/4941/losangelesskylineinwinter0uc.jpg
From humble beginnings in 1781 when the natives were running around
barefoot and eating grasshoppers, Los Angeles has since grown to become quite a
modern city today. The Los Angeles Fashion District is the largest in the nation and
second largest in the world. Los Angeles International Airport is the world's fifth busiest. The Los Angeles Jewelry District is the nations largest. Los Angeles has more world renouned art and cultural centers (more than 300) than any other city in the world. Los Angeles is the world's most photographed city. The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest in the U.S. and the world's 7th busiest. More studios and celebrities call Los Angeles home. More celebrities are also native born Los Angelean's.

Well all i can say is that L.A. has alot of growing "up" to do first before it becomes anything close to a Chicago or Newyork. I mean, L.A. sure has some of the height but not enough of it. It first needs to build more supertalls outwardly around downtown. But i've seen some future pics of L.A. and it looks like that's what there trying to do. so hopefully it could be as big as Chi-town or NYC but i highly doubt it will ever be as big as those cities.

Patriot76
February 14th, 2006, 03:11 AM
Big in what respect?

The Los Angeles Metropolitan area is bigger than any of those two cities. And the city of L.A. is already the 2nd biggest city in the U.S.A.

If by bigger you mean a more denser skyline, well that's another thing and I agree with you, but like I said, most people in L.A. don't want the city to be another NYC or Chicago. This city has a lot more to offer than any city in the country... besides the city of Angels and its metro area (Southern Cal. as a whole) has a lot more attractions and more things to offer any tourists than those 2 cities combined.

So don't worry about our density, cause even without a dense skyline, L.A. is the city to be.

Here are just a few facts about L.A. and its metro area.

The L.A. skyline is one of the most modern in the country and the world.

The L.A. metro (and its suburban trains) is one of the most modern and cleanest in the country.

The Los Angeles Fashion District is the largest in the nation and 2nd largest
in the world

The Los Angeles Jewelry District is the nations largest.

The Attractions in Southern California are the best in the nation.

Sunny Southern California has the best weather in the nation.

Los Angeles International Airport is the world's fifth busiest.

Los Angeles has more world renouned art and cultural centers (more than 300) than any other city in the world.

Los Angeles is the world's most photographed city.

The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest in the U.S. and the world's 7th busiest.

Los Angeles is the major U.S. center for motion-picture, television film, and related entertainment industries. More studios and celebrities call Los Angeles home.

Who really gives a crap about all that stuff? It's just boosterism and what good does ANY of that do YOU--besides, I see only a couple of "facts" in your list. I would hardly list as "fact" things like "one of the most modern skylines in the world" (when is the last time LA built a supertall building?) or "has the best weather in the nation" (what if I want seasons or warm water?) or "the best attractions in the nation" (hmmm.... Disney World is a WEE bit bigger than Disney Land...). Most photographed? That wouldn't have anything to do with the movie and film industry being headquartered there would it? Wow, you have a busy airport!? That really makes a city world class (Atlanta). I mean let's get real.

The guy is right--LA needs a lot more buildings before it starts looking like a New York or Chicago. If you want an urban lifestyle in this country you certainly don't move to LA.

If by variety you mean Chigago's cold, snow, windy, and rainy weather, and during summers the high humidity... no thanks, dude,

If I want snow during the winter I 'll just head over to Los Angeles National Forest (Big Bear Lake area) and enjoy the snow in a beautiful and clean enviroment.

Nah, that's thread created in last 2 years old but other one are closed for long time, don't blame to Disneyland for being small cuz Disney Compny is used to proposed new extansion like Epcot, Disneysea (will be should in Long Beach) and Disney water parks because Anaheim haven't enough land to build due overcrowded sprawl that where bunch of single houses, low-medium density apartments and low-rise commerical. Disney Company bought huge land in Disney World and nearly 50% of land in Disney World is undevelopment but Disneyland in Anaheim will be around under 0.5% land are undevelopment, city of Anaheim don't let Disneyland to demolish the single houses to make more room. We don't need have bigger damn Disneyland like in Disney World. There Disney's California Adventure and Downtown Disney as called Disneyland Resort.

Frim Wikipedia for future development.
The only resort that is extremely short on land is Disneyland Resort in California, although Disneyland has enough land to build a third theme park on a former strawberry farm located near the resort, and the remainder of the original parking lot, now behind Disney's California Adventure, will more than likely be demolished to add on to the park.

LAX is very crowded and seems busy but Atlanta is just busy but less crowded than LAX, LAX is already on top 10 lists and LAX is bigger than Atlanta airport.

Of course, we do have alot of film and movie industry so that LA is capital of most film and movie industry ever.

Yeah, LA seems much modern in skyline and it ALREADY urban lifestyle in all LA basin like Hollywood, Westlake-MacArthur Park, Downtown LA, Miracle Mile, Wilshire area, West LA, Century City, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and much more are still urban lifestyle but who cares with transit mass, some part of San Fernando Valley are developed urban like alot of low-rise apartments with more than 5 stories and some part are genfried as urban. I know that u haven't been in LA before and said that LA had no urban lifestyle... one more to tell thing... You are just an idiot and ignorant, looks much like Quickdraw.

I think LA is pretty boring. There's no history there and there's no nice architecture there. When I visited LA, people were rude. I am never going to LA again unless I have to take a business trip there. Everybody says NY is dirty. The South Bronx, Bed-Stuy(in Brooklyn), Jamaica(in Queens), and parts of Harlem are dirty and dangerous, but Mid-town to downtown is beautiful. Between Mid-town and downtown is Greenwich Village, a beautiful, old neighborhood. The Flatiron District is beautiful and full of old buildings and a couple small parks. The Chrysler Building is probably the most beautiful skyscraper in the world.
