It is places like these that brings tourists back every year.

Next year, of Americans and Brits planning to travel in the summer, a whopping 70% of those polled said they are coming to Greece. The pics below show why. Skyscrapers and buildings are nice if you want to copy the architecture of other cities (city I am talking about shall remain nameless). In Greece we have our own unique architecture and style and what you see in the pics below cannot be copied and is not found ANYWHERE else in the world.

Oh yeah i'm so jealous god yeah!

You make simple buildings with concrete, make smooth curves to them, paint them to cheapest color: white with little blue. Yeah they look sweet like haribo candies(only in Santorini) but if this is the great unique architecture of Greece that you think is better than other cities then you obviosly didn't see cities like Paris, ROme, Istanbul, Barcelona.

The sweat at the making of Sultan Ahmed mosque, is probably much more than the entire concrete buildings in Santorini.

Am i too harsh? Well you asked for it...

Atually you are not being harsh....you are being extremely idiotic and your message still oozes with frustration, jealousy, hate, and lunacy. You are truly pathetic and I feel sorry for you.

I never said that Greece's current architecture is better than that found in any other country of the world. What I said is that Greece is the most beautiful country in the world that has UNIQUE architecture that is not found in the rest of the world. To you they are tiny white huts. To us Greeks and the millions of tourists that come every year, they are beautiful, unique, and cant be found anywhere in the world.

Lastly, you talk about your mosques. The last time I checked in the USA, Canada, South America, and almost all European countries, their government buildings always include at least one building that is built to look like the Parthenon of Athens and countless other parthenon-style structures found in Greece. Ancient ones are even found in Turkey! You know where, right? The parts of Turkey that used to be part of Ancient Greece which now are marketed as TOP Turkish tourist destinations! HAHAHAHA you are so lost my friend.

Guess what? You lose again, Turk!

Are you for fucking real?

Are you telling me that there are no Ancient Greek sites in modern day Turkey? Are you that stupid? Are you saying that Turks built these things instead of the Greeks 2,000 - 3,000 years ago? You can't be that dumb, can you?

Read this quote from the Los Angeles Times:

"Turkey alone has more Greek ruins than Greece and more Roman cities than Italy. His Turkish itinerary--which offered more than a dozen centers of ancient Greek and Roman culture--might have been lure enough, but the price last year was irresistible: $900 per person (without air fare) for 14 days, including hotels, most dinners and breakfasts and a Turkish guide"

...."The professor had little trouble persuading us that in Turkey, the old Anatolia of the history books, the past is everywhere. Not only, of course, was this East Greece between 750 and 130 BC, but also a province of the Roman Empire between 130 BC and AD 395. Here strode Aristotle and Alexander the Great; the Roman emperors Trajan, Hadrian and Constantine; St. John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary, and a host of other awesome figures."

..."Ephesus’ position on the coast at the western end of a great Asian trade road created the ideal conditions for it to evolve into an important port city. Founded in the 11th century B.C. by Ionian Greeks, Ephesus was conquered in turn by the Cimmerians (7th century B.C.), the Lydians (6th century B.C.), the Persians, and again the Greeks (5th century B.C.). It was under Alexander the Great that Ephesus reached its heyday as a Greek port city and extended to include a long section of the Cayster River Valley. The Romans took control of the city in 189 B.C., and by the time of Roman Emperor Augustus in 27 B.C., Ephesus became the most important Roman city in Asia Minor."

..."We found ourselves overcome by the architecture, art, and urban features of ancient Ephesus. Included here are two theaters, two agoras (marketplaces), multiple temples to Greek and Roman gods, a huge library, multiple baths, public latrines with an underground sewer system, a brothel, fountains, gymnasium, stadium, basilica, palaces, an early Christian church dedicated to Virgin Mary, and private homes of rich Ephesian citizens."

I could post so much more but you are too stupid and uneducated to understand!

A Chinese person living in New Yor is Chinese
A Nigerian person living in Toronto is Nigerian

A Greek person who lives in what TODAY is called Turkey is Greek. What was built BY GREEKS in what was Ancient Greece (even though the land is today called Turkey) is Greek, and yes, no matter where a Greek finds himself today, we have ties to our past. Greeks built those monuments and buildings, not Turks. Turks are from a different tribe and did not appear in that region for tens of hundreds of years after these buildings were built BY GREEKS.

Your so ignorant.

Turks are not a group of people from the same ethnicity. My roots are from balkans for example. There are indeed many Turks who are the sons of those ancient people that lived in Anatolia.

These people are not called Greek, actually if you call them Greek you'll probably get a punch in the face. Anatolia was and is a huge melting pot.

The Asiatic Turks used to have slighty eyes, how many slighty eyed Turks did you see in your life?

I'll tell you they are a part of the Turkish population.

Hagia Sophia was built by East Romans(Byzantium), Byzantium does not mean Greek.

Chirac made a good point last week to promote our membership: ''we are all the sons of Byzantium''. He associated us with Byzantium not you.

There was a good discussion about it here. Many of the Turkish professors said ''yes indeed we are the inheritor of the Byzantium Empire''. The problem is this is a quiete radical thought for most of the Turks cuz we are muslim and Byzantium was christian. so we don't brag about it much.

Sorry to break it to you but the Byzantine Empire was a HELLENISTIC empire. It WAS part of the Roman empire until Rome was sacked by the Germanic peoples of the north and the Byzantine Empire became its own empire with its own culture and religion.
What language do you think they spoke? They spoke Greek, and all the empire was is modern day Greece and Contantinople which AT THE TIME was a Greek city inhabited by Greeks. The Romans did not just pick up and move to Consantinople and Hagia Sophia was built 300 years after Rome fell and built by Greeks.
I guess in your logic just because Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire Greeks today are "Western Turks"?

When the Seljuks first entered Anatolia there were 4 million people living there, so you say every sinlge one of them moved to Greece? Yeah sure! If so your population should have been 30 million instead of 10!

While a very little part of them kept their religon christianty, majority of them became muslim(because of the high taxis to non muslims, pressure etc) and also became a major part of the Ottomans. Still didn't get it?

Maybe %1 part of them moved to Greece but %99 of them always stayed in Anatolia. They became muslims and Turks, like others becoming orthodox christians and modern day Greeks.

I say modern day Greece has very little to do with ancient Greeks because it is true. At the first hand you don't believe in Zeus do you? You are orhodox christians and christianity is what killed the ancient Greek civilization. Carrying the same ethnic name(greek) doesn't suddenly make Socrates your uncle.

In the end i see the ancient civilisations that existed in my country as a part of my history, do you have a problem with that? The you can go **** yourself.

Sorry to break it to you but the Byzantine Empire was a HELLENISTIC empire.

Are you kidding? What's hellenistic about Byzantium Empire?! It was the part of Roman empire and it wasn't hellenistic it was an empire based on orthodox christian values.

Zeus would have kicked your ass if he saw some one like you associating christinanity with hellenism. :D A religion that killed hellenistic world.

Your ignorance doesn't surprise me.

:runaway:

You may be the most ignorant person I have ever met. The Byzantine Empire was NOT part of the Holy Roman Empire. Greece and the rest of the empire was a PROVINCE of the ancient Roman Empire but after the sacking of Rome they SOMPLETLY SPLIT! They are two different empires with different culture and religion.
What does religion have anything to do with Hellenism. I guess Italians cannot accosiate themselfs with the ancient Roman Empire who believed in Jupter, Mars, etc. as gods? Things change over time and Greek culture was the Byzantine empire.

Byzantine Language= GREEK
People=Greek
Land=Greek (and part of Anatolia which was inhibited by Greeks in large numbers up until the population exchange)

Hellenism is not just believing in Zeus. Those are ancient people. Hellenism means Greek Culture and Hellenic means Greek. Have you not figured that out yet. That is why Greeks are considered Hellenes.

Also the religion of Orthodoxy is Hellenic. Roman Catholic is not but Orthodoxy is and is the religion of the Byzantine Empire which as I said earlier was HELLENIC.

Gocaps and Alexander21,

I urge you to ignore this vromo-Tourko! I really think (and I actually hope) that he is purposely saying these things in order to push our buttons. He cannot be that stupid and ignorant! It is impossible! But then again, seeing that he is fed all that bullshit Turkish propaganda on a daily basis, maybe the poor fella just doesn't have the intellectual capacity to understand the truth!

All the moron has to do is to take a walk into the Agia Sophia and see the Byzantine paintings with word that use the letters of THE GREEK ALPHABET and he will instantly shut up. He wont see Turkish jibberish or Roman letters used. HE will see Greek letters. The same letters that have been in use BY US HELLENES for over 4,000 years!

Lets ignore this fool. We know the facts. Maybe by ignoring him he will just go away.

What you guys don't understand and will probably never understand is using the same alphabeth with others doesn't make you the same people!

When someone talks about Hellenistic world, i understand people who formed the very first democracy of our world and gave us the famous philosophers of our history. When they mention me hellenistic people i understand people who believe in various gods like Posedion, Zeus.

When they mention me hellenistic people, i don't understand people who are orthodox christians that eat souvlaki.

So you use the same alphabeth? Great. I'm now %100 confident that Leafy boy is the grand son of Socrates. :D

Ok, this will be my last post to you because you obviously have the IQ of a coackroach. Since you do not understand this issue when discusssing Greeks, I will use another example so, HOPEFULLY, you will understand and, HOPEFULLY, after that, you will shut up and move on from this topic because you are embarassing yourself.

Example #1: Native Indians lived in Canada and the USA for TENS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS before the European white man came to their lands. As we all know, many native indians were murdered but those that lived were forced to convert to Christianity. Native Indians WERE NOT Christians before the white man took over their lands. They believed in gods, spirits, etc., but not the Christian God and his Son, Jesus. Today there are many native Indians that are Christians due to the conversion their ancestors went through in the past. They do not follow their ancient religion of the past but rather, their converted Christian religion. Are these native Indians NOT Indian because their religion changed over the years? According to your ridiculous reasoning, they are not. BUT THEY ARE! They are as native as the ancestors they had 1000 years ago even if their religion has changed!!! Do you not get this????

Now please, just be a man and admit that you were wrong.

Case closed.

What's the mulfunction in your brains?!

Why some of you Greeks are like that?! and you dare to say me that i live in fantasy world? hahaha!

The problem with some of you Greeks is your constant whining about how you created democracy, how you were living civilised while others were barbarsa. How everything(cities, ruins, people...) that belongs to other nations are Greek.

You are laughable! You didn't created democracy, ancient Greeks did. What i'm saying is ancient Greeks were a very different civilisation. They had their times, gave us a lot of great things and they are gone. I can understand you guys were brainwashed with your brilliant Greek history books that you guys created everything and every other nation should be thankful to you! lol! get over it! we are not thankful to you for anything. We are thankful to ancient Greeks for creating a basic form of democracy and we are thankful to French and German archeologists and sociologists for finding and studying ancient Greeks and improving democracy that as we all know today.

Do you see any modern day Egyptians whining about how they made the great Pyramids? No! It would be laughable. Pyramids were built by ancient Egyptians, they have nothing to do with modern day Egyptians. Collosseum wasn't built by Italians, it was built by Romans. Do you think Ottoman Empire and Turkey is the same?

Do you see any other people from other nations constantly bitching about the ancient people that lived in their country? You guys are living in the past. Maybe that's the only thing you are proud of. Actually i'm thankful for Euro 2004 cuz now we have Greeks at least whining about their Euro cup win instead of democracy, olympics that you desperatly claim that you invented. ''shut up we created democracy moron'' changed to ''shut up we won the Euro 2004'' :D

I'm simply saying that you didn't created anything for the civilisation, you didn't even promoted the things that ancient Greeks created. Instead it was French and Germans who did this. Olympics was created by ancient Greeks and was brought to modern day by French.

Bottom line is Ancient Greeks lived more than 2000 years ago. They lived in a different world, in a different civilisation.Your desperate tries to put them all in the same pot by naming it Hellenism is laughable. If it wasn't foreign archeologists you wouldn't even know that such civilisation existed in your country and now you tell me that you created democracy! Great! :D

Now the case is closed for me.

istanbullu doesnt attack anyone tekir, all he tries to say is that some greek forumers cant even post their beautiful country's pictures without bitching on other cities,nations...

ex:Leafsfan:

It is places like these that brings tourists back every year.

Next year, of Americans and Brits planning to travel in the summer, a whopping 70% of those polled said they are coming to Greece. The pics below show why. Skyscrapers and buildings are nice if you want to copy the architecture of other cities (city I am talking about shall remain nameless). In Greece we have our own unique architecture and style and what you see in the pics below cannot be copied and is not found ANYWHERE else in the world.

Greece is a beatiful country with beautiful architecture! I am sure that everybody is aware of this. there is no need to annoy or tease other cities while showing ours...

beautiful pics, wath is that bull in the pic?

Thanks Arpels and sts!!!

The bull was found by French archaeologists in 1939.

The enormous bull is larger than life size (2.30 x 1.25m x 25m) and was made of silver leaf (some gilded) affixed to a wooden frame. From the surviving fragments, the bull has been reassembled so that we have some idea of the rich, impressive and wonderfully wrought original. It is dated to the second half of the 6th century BC.

Wow  is from Krete?

No, but you know your Greek history well, my friend! :applause:

The bull you are talking about is the Minotaur of Knossos, Crete and has MUCH MORE significance.

The bull I posted a pic of was found in the ruins of Delphi.

Here are some of the Minotaur in Crete:

http://www.daedalus.gr/DAEI/THEME/B31.jpg

http://www.daedalus.gr/DAEI/THEME/B30.jpg

THE MYTHOLOGY OF THE MINOTAUR

Half bull, half man, the Minotaur was the most fearsome monster of ancient times. Its horns were sharp as knives, its great hooves could kick the life out the strongest of heroes, and its food was human flesh. The Minotaur lived in the labyrinth, a great maze of winding passages on the island of Crete. Each year seven youths and seven maidens were sent from Greece as food for the beast.

One year, Theseus, the greatest of the Greek heroes, said he would go to Crete and fight the monster. "Let me go as one of the victims," he said to his father Aegeus. "I'll kill the Minotaur and free Greece from this peril." Aegeus was unsure. He remembered how others had promised to slay the beast and had ended up dead. But Theseus insisted. Soon his ship was rigged with black sails, which was the custom when Greeks were sailing to meet their doom. "Watch out when I return," said Theseus. "I will hoist white sails to show that I've succeeded."

Theseus' ship arrived at the harbour of Knossos, near the palace of King Minos of Crete. The king's daughter, Ariadne, saw the ship. Soon the Greek hero and the beautiful Cretan girl were talking, and, before they knew it, the pair were in love. When Theseus told Ariadne that he was going to kill the Minotaur, she decided she would help him. She knew that even a hero would get lost in the winding passages of the labyrinth. So she gave him a ball of thread. "Unwind it as you go in, then you will be able to find your way out again by following the thread," she explained. So Theseus entered the dark, winding labyrinth, undoing the thread as he went.

Soon he heard the bellowing beast, and as he walked on, the roars got louder and louder, until Theseus was at the centre of the maze and face to face with the monster. Now the hero could see the glint in the beast's eyes. He could hear the rumble of its breathing. He could even feel the warmth of his breath as the creature crouched in its lair. Theseus paused, waiting for the best moment to attack. As the creature turned his back, Theseus sprang, plunging his sword into the beast's flesh. The Minotaur gave out one last bellow, and breathed its last. Theseus found his way out of the maze using Ariadne's thread and sailed quickly back to Greece to tell his father that he had succeeded. But Theseus was so excited that he forgot to hoist his white sails. When Aegeus saw his son's ship rigged with the black sails he feared the worst. The old man, despairing, flung himself from the cliff into the seas, and perished beneath the waves. Theseus had won his victory but lost his father, and was sad at heart for many a long year.

Very nice pics except the one with a small naked girl. I mean if this is a common vision in Greece then thx no thx. Personally I'm against small children being naked at public places.

btw from which part of Greece the last pics are from? Just my type of places. :)

The woman you see is from a set of pictures that I got from honeymooners that vacation in Greece. There were many more pics and I can assure you she is a marrieeed woman...she just happens to be very flat chested  .

The reason I put it is because, these days, it seems that everyone in Greece is talking on mobile phones no matter where they are....and in this case, even at nude beaches

Anywy, the last se pf pics is from the area of Greece I am from: the pics are taken in the town of Levadia on Mount Parnassos, about 1.5 hours north of Athens in central Greece.

Beautiful set Leaf, you were in paradise.

@Istanbulu: what is wrong if kids run naked on the beach?? they are just kids this is a common picture in Slovenia beaches, I think..I dont mean teenagers, but kids from 2-5 age, I dont see nothin obscene in that.
