Operators gear up for holiday season

With the 14-billion-baht Siam Paragon due to open in 12 months, one of the luxury shopping centre's developers is about to spend 450 million baht to renovate the nearby Siam Center and the adjoining Siam Discovery.

Siam Piwat Co said the 350-million-baht facelift of the 32-year-old Siam Center would begin in January and work on Siam Discovery costing 100 million baht would start late next year.

Once the work is completed, the company expects the number of daily visitors at the two sites will rise by 25% to 100,000, according to managing director Chadatip Chutrakul.

She said the transformation of Siam Center into a ``magical glass box'' would take 10 months to complete.

Once the Siam Paragon, a joint venture between Siam Piwat and The Mall Group, opens next November, all three complexes will make up a shopping district with 700,000 square metres of space and at least 200,000 visitors a day, she said.

Ms Chadatip said Siam Center, Siam Discovery and Siam Paragon each had different target groups. Siam Paragon will mainly offer high-end products for high-income customers and well-heeled international tourists. Siam Discovery is aimed at design-conscious career people aged between 25 and 35 years. Siam Center is positioned as a trendy gathering place for fashion-conscious younger consumers aged 12-28.

Ms Chadatip said Siam Center's new de{AAC}cor would feature a lot of glass and a 25-million-baht lighting system would allow the company to change the complex's interior colours in a bid to attract customers.

According to Ms Chadatip, 30% of the products offered by retailers in Siam Center are accessories, with food another 30%, lifestyle products such as gifts and souvenirs 13%, sports fashion gear 10% and cosmetics and health services 10%.

Around half of Siam Center's current customers are young people between 12 and 25 years old, 25% are between 26 and 35 years and another 25% are tourists.

She said the annual revenue of Siam Center and Siam Discovery totalled about 900 million baht. In the past 10 months, the company's profit increased by about 15% from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, with Christmas and New Year approaching, major retailers are rolling out their year-end promotional campaigns to attract gift spenders.

The Mall Group Co yesterday announced plans to spend 130 million baht on New Year campaigns at seven The Mall department stores and The Emporium.

Senior vice-president Phaibul Kanokvatanawan cited research by Kasikornbank Research Center showing that Bangkok residents spent 3.3 billion baht on gifts during the last New Year season. He forecast The Mall Group would record five billion baht in total sales during the coming New Year season.

Of the five billion baht in revenue, 3.5 billion is expected to be from The Mall department stores and the rest from The Emporium.

The key attraction this year will be The Mall Lucky Stars 20 Millionaires raffle, in which a one-million-baht gift card will be given away every day for 20 days. At The Emporium, the Emporium Diamond Diva 2005 campaign will give away a one-carat diamond jewellery item each day from tomorrow to Jan 3.

According to Mr Phaibul, the company's retail revenue from January to October was about 23 billion baht, up 8% from the same period last year. The full-year projection is for sales of 28 billion baht.

Mr Phaibul said consumers were now willing to spend more money on gifts because their income had increased. The economy has recovered, and employees of private companies have begun enjoying pay rises, bonuses and other financial incentives again during the past two years.

Bt350m to be spent renovating top Bangkok complex

Siam Piwat Co Ltd, operator of Bangkok’s Siam Centre and Siam Discovery shopping centres, yesterday announced a Bt350-million renovation of Siam Centre based on a “Magical Glass Box” concept.

The renovation is aimed at making the shopping complex more attractive to teenagers and young adults.

The company said more than Bt25 million would be spent on a special lighting system imported from the US and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on the outer and inner walls of the centre which would give the effect of a glass box that could keep changing its appearance.

“The renovation will start from January next year and last for 10 months. It will give Siam Centre a new young, chic and energetic look,” said Chadatip Chutrakul, managing director of Siam Piwat Co Ltd.

The renovation would make Siam Centre a fashionable destination for teenagers and young adults age between 12 and 28, she said.

She said that more than 90 per cent of tenant stores would remain open during the renovation.

“The renovated Siam Centre will complement the neighbouring Siam Paragon, which is scheduled to open in November next year,” Chadatip said.

Meanwhile, the adjacent Siam Dicovery shopping centre, which is in its seventh year of operation, will also undergo major renovation next year, she said.

Chadatip said that while Siam Centre would be positioned as a “fashion centre” for teenagers, Siam Discovery would market itself as a “lifestyle centre” and target working people aged between 25 and 45.

“With the renovation of Siam Discovery, starting before the end of next year, we plan to expand retail space for living and leisure products, which will be on the fourth and fifth floors of the shopping complex,” she said.

The CD Warehouse music store will move from Siam Centre to Siam Discovery as part of the renovation.

Siam Discovery will also attract new flagship brands to its complex including Diesel and Replay.

The Watson’s chain of would also introduce its new luxury store concept at the Siam Discovery, she said.

Chadatip said Siam Paragon would position itself as a centre for retail and entertainment events, with major attractions such as 10,000-square metre aquarium, 1,800-seat opera hall, a 10,000-square metre multi-purpose hall, and a 150-shop jewellery and watch centre.

She said the three shopping centres would link together and have total retail space of more than 700,000 square metres, creating the “one-stop” shopping destination in Bangkok.

It hopes to attract between 200,000 and 250,000 shoppers a day, she said.

Yippee!! Finally, Bangkok will have Diesel flagship store. Hope it will have an edgey decor like in NY not plain like in Hong Kong. Oh, hope Thai shoppers will shoe there instead of go buy DIESEL from Siam Square :P Topshop/Topman should open at Siam Center and Zara should open at Siam Discovery considered they are doing so darn well in Singapore. If Bangkok has these 2 store, thai peopl will dress much better in good price ;)

i just cant imagine how modern that area will be when siam paragon.. the new glassy siam...the new zen.. and the already renovated mbk complete.. that area will be probably be a modern version of Shinjuku!!!!

Well, Siam Center has been in business since 1973 and still in business for teens and
it is no doubt that it has become BKK version of Shinjuku (and Harajuku as well if you add Siam Square)

Totally wrong, This building will not be blocked by the skytrain station, since the skytrain station is actually situated infront of The Siam Paragon, not Siam Center.

Tenants seek further talks with university

Siam Square tenants are looking to hold talks with Chulalongkorn University to discuss the recent increase in rental rates, which they feel was too high.

More than 100 tenants gathered yesterday for a meeting led by former Supreme Court judge Charoen Nileasong and a former Chulalongkorn lecturer, Rangsan Torsuwan, who is also one of the 400 tenants who occupy the 610 units in commercial buildings in Siam Square.

Mr Rangsan said he would try to bring both sides together to discuss the differences as currently the situation was one-sided, with the university setting the new rental rates without any input from tenants despite numerous requests to negotiate. The tenants have been told to either accept the new rental contracts or move out.

The university plans to raise monthly rental fees for units in Siam Square by between 165% and 430%, from 30,300 baht to a range of 80,000 to 160,000 baht next year.

The tenants have submitted a petition to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra seeking fair treatment from the university. They propose that the rise should not exceed 20% on the grounds that the university had already increased rates by 50-300% between 1969 and 2004.

Mr Rangsan said the university should also not be allowed to offer different discount rates, which have been set at 10-40%, to tenants because it would raise concerns of unfair criteria applied in calculating the discount.

The university can set different rates for different locations but it cannot give different discounts, he added.

Another point of concern brought up in the meeting is that the university sent letters to individual tenants telling them that they had to pay higher rental fees next year to support Chulalongkorn's education programme.

Mr Rangsan is of the view that educational institutions have no right to demand funds in this manner.

He also expressed doubt over the way the property consulting firm CB Richard Ellis, which was hired to come up with the new rate schedules, reached its conclusions. He said the company had valued the area in terms of a mall but in actuality it is made up of a number of shophouses.

"I'm optimistic that they [the university and tenants] will be able to reach an agreement if the Chulalongkorn side negotiates with the tenants. This is a business deal in which both sides should agree on the contract," Mr Rangsan added.

Mr Charoen suggested that the tenants seek assistance from the Consumer Protection Board in helping to set new rental rates, backed up by the university's demand for higher fees to support its educational programme.

However, he was against the tenants taking any legal action against the institution even though they could win the case.

Siam Centre to get Bt400m face-lift

Siam Piwat – operator of Siam Centre, Siam Discovery Centre and Siam Tower – is not expecting revenue growth this year, as the company will spend Bt400 million renovating Siam Centre, its managing director Chadatip Chutrakul said yesterday.

Chadatip said the firm would upgrade the exterior and interior of the retail property.

It will be the third renovation the 33-year-old mall has undertaken. The last refurbishing work – costing Bt300 million – took place nine years ago.

The centre will adopt a glass box that enables the building to change its appearance every season by using landscape lighting. The company is investing Bt40 million on lighting equipment.

Siam Centre will rearrange half its retail areas by separating them into zones.

The shopping centre will emphasise its fashion lines. All local fashion brands will renovate their boutiques to be between 200-square-metres and 300-square-metres, using the mall’s Thai Designer Showcase concept.

There will be 20 new fashion brands, 12 of them new international brands. They will use their Siam Centre outlets as their first stores.

These brands include Xoxo, Rampage, and Soul Edge. Sportswear brands include Volcom and Ecko United.

All restaurants including the new Greyhound Cafe will be moved to the fourth floor. The renovation work is expected to be completed by October.

The eight-year-old Siam Discovery centre also plans a face-lift next year and is currently formulating the plan.

The outlet is already making changes on the first floor by bringing in new fashion brands to set up flagship stores here.

Chadatip seeks to make the two malls a “lifestyle centre” to match Siam Paragon, a new mall opening in November near Siam Centre.

The changes are expected to boost retail revenues by 20 per cent.

Currently, the two sites attract about 80,000 visitors a day, she said. The company expects 120,000 arrivals after Siam Paragon opens.

Siam Piwat’s income grew 15 per cent to Bt855 million last year. The revenue came largely from tenants in the two complexes and Siam Tower’s office rentals.

The firm has set aside Bt80 million as its marketing budget this year.

It is also studying a plan to build a retail centre north of Bangkok. The plan takes into account the international airport at Don Muang will be shifted to Bang Na.

Despite the shift, the residential communities in the northern suburbs will stay, it noted. Demand from these residents will support the building of a new mall.

It also studying plans tap the Lumpini Night Bazaar by joining The Mall department store, Mahboonkrong Centre, and National Finance Group to bid for the contract from the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School after the old three-year lease expires.

Seven groups are bidding for the contract.

I don't really know but I go thru there regulalrly and was in there two days ago. They have recently started (two weeks ago) renovating some of the interior areas/shops on ground and 1st & 2nd floors at the east end (nearest the sky train ent.).

There is no visible work on the exterior at the front, although there is a new very large ad banner at the entrance where the Pizza Comp is (east front entrance near skytrain) which may be to block view of current/future renovations?

That must be this upgrade they have slowly begun working on. I am really curious to see what the building will actually look like when they are done.

I'd love to see MBK change, too. the interior is pretty alright now. they should go with a glass box design as well, so Pathumwan intersection would turn out to be a super glassy area.

สำหรับการปรับปรุงครั้งใหญ่ของศูนย์การค้าสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ในรอบ 33 ปี โดยจะแล้วเสร็จภายในสิ้นปีนี้พร้อมๆ กับการเปิดบริการของสยามพารากอนนั้น จะมีแบรนด์นำเข้าที่ยังไม่เคยเปิดตัวในเมืองไทยเพิ่มเข้ามาในพื้นที่ไม่ต่ำกว่า 12 แบรนด์ ตอกย้ำจุดยืนของสยามเซ็นเตอร์ในความเป็นศูนย์กลางแฟชั่นสุดเปรี้ยวล้ำยุค โดยพื้นที่ทั้งหมดเป็นสัดส่วนของสินค้ากลุ่มแฟชั่นถึง 50% ทีเดียว ซึ่งยังมีสินค้า 50-60 แบรนด์รอเข้าเปิดบริการ เป็นแบรนด์วัยรุ่นมากกว่า 10 แบรนด์

โดยโซนการจัดวางสินค้าและบริการใหม่แบ่งออกเป็น ชั้น 1 แฟลกชิพสโตร์ ขนาด 200-400 ตร.ม.ต่อร้านของทั้งแฟชั่นดีไซเนอร์ไทยและแบรนด์เนมต่างประเทศ ชั้น 2 เป็นศูนย์รวมกระเป๋า รองเท้า เครื่องประดับกว่า 20 แบรนด์เนม เครื่องสำอางเทรนดี้สำหรับวัยรุ่น ชั้น 3 จุดรวมดีไซเนอร์ไทยและยังดีไซเนอร์รุ่นใหม่ มีพื้นที่ 500 ตร.ม.สำหรับดีไซเนอร์หน้าใหม่เปลี่ยนโชว์ผลงานทุกๆ 2 เดือน ชั้น 4 จะเป็นศูนย์รวมอาหารที่ย้ายมาจากชั้น 1 และมีร้านใหม่เปิดเพิ่มอีกกว่า 10 ร้าน

นางมยุรี ชัยพรหมประสิทธิ์ ผู้ช่วยกรรมการผู้จัดการ ด้านส่งเสริมธุรกิจ บริษัท สยามพิวรรธน์ จำกัด ผู้บริหารศูนย์การค้าสยาม เซ็นเตอร์ เปิดเผยว่า บริษัทอยู่ระหว่างการปรับปรุงพื้นที่ศูนย์การค้าสยาม เซ็นเตอร์ ซึ่งได้ดำเนินการไปแล้วกว่า 40% โดยงบประมาณที่ใช้ในการปรับปรุงครั้งนี้ บริษัทได้ปรับงบเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 400 ล้านบาท จากเดิมที่ตั้งไว้ 350 ล้านบาท เนื่องจากต้องการให้พื้นที่บางส่วนมีความสวยงามและทันสมัยมากขึ้น

ทั้งนี้ หลังจากปรับปรุงแล้วเสร็จ จะเปิดให้บริการภายในรูปแบบใหม่ได้ในเดือนตุลาคมนี้ โดยมีร้านค้าแบรนด์เนมรายใหญ่เข้ามาเปิดให้บริการประมาณ 20 ราย ซึ่งทำให้สยาม เซ็นเตอร์ มีความสมบูรณ์มากขึ้น ส่วนร้านค้าที่เจาะกลุ่มวัยรุ่นนั้น บางร้านจะย้ายไปเปิดให้บริการภายในศูนย์การค้าสยาม ดิสคัฟเวอรี่ เพื่อให้ตรงกับกลุ่มเป้าหมายได้ชัดเจนกว่า ขณะที่ในส่วนของสยาม พารากอน ก็จะเปิดให้บริการในเดือนพฤศจิกายนนี้ โดยกลุ่มเป้าหมายจะเป็นลูกค้าระดับบน

On-screen advertising for Siam Piwat malls

Matching Studio Plc has joined hands with Siam Piwat Co Ltd, the owner of Siam Centre and Siam Discovery, to create a new advertising medium using 70 screens located throughout the two shopping complexes.

The Bt120-million project - named Cheese Media - will involve the latest liquid crystal display (LCD) and digital technology. The largest screen will measure three metres by 12 and most of the others will be 37-inch plasma screens placed strategically through the centres. It is expected to be up and running by October.

Somchai Cheewasutthanon, director and chief executive of Matching Studio, said the two companies would share the profits.

He said the LCD medium had created a new advertising trend in Thailand. It combines “above the line” advertising, which normally involves television commercials, and “below the line”, including event marketing and print media.

The project is expected to attract revenue of Bt80 million a year. Its break-even point should come after two and a half years.

Toyota is the company’s first customer, buying a Bt15-million package for one year’s advertising. Moreover, 50 per cent of the project’s advertising airtime has already been sold.

The creation of the ad outlet coincides with a Bt350-million renovation of Siam Centre and Siam Discovery, which began two months ago.

Mayuree Chaipromprasith, Siam Piwat’s assistant managing director of Business Promotion Development, said the two shopping complexes were being redesigned as trendy fashion centres in Bangkok’s central business district.

The largest screen, measuring 36 square metres, will be located between Siam Centre and Siam Paragon. Another screen will measure 1.79 metres by 9.4, and there will be fifty-nine 37-inch plasma monitors throughout the two centres.

Correction. I just read the other big screen tv thread. The one at CWT is 137sqm, the largest in SE Asia, so it's more than 3x bigger than Paragon's 36sqm screen. But it's still massive!

และนี่ก็เป็นครั้งที่สอง ที่บริษัทสถาปนิกไทยแห่งนี้ถูกเลือกให้รับทำหน้าที่ปรับโฉมห้างสรรพสินค้าสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ครั้งแรกเกิดขึ้นเมื่อ 14 ปีที่แล้ว ราเมศเปรียบเทียบการทำงานครั้งนี้ว่าเป็นการเปลี่ยนผ่านจาก“ยุคดิสโก้” มาสู่ยุค “ฮิพฮอพ”

ภายใต้คอนเซ็ปต์ใหม่ ห้างผนังทึบหนาจะถูกแทนที่ด้วยกระจกใส เพื่อเน้นความโปร่งใส เมื่อลูกค้าเป็นวัยรุ่น สิ่งที่ต้องใส่คือความสนุก แสงสีของไฟ จะช่วยสร้างความมีชีวิตชีวา และความเคลื่อนไหว การ communicate กับลูกค้าที่มาใช้บริการ

“จากผนังตันๆ สีเขียว เราเอากระจกมาติดตั้งแทน เพื่อให้รู้สึกถึงการสื่อสารระหว่างกัน ดูแล้วทันสมัย ยิ่งเมื่อกลุ่มเป้าหมายเป็นวัยรุ่น สิ่งสำคัญคือ เราต้องใส่ความสนุกเข้าไปด้วย ใส่ความเป็น hip hop มันจะกระจายอยู่ทั่วไป แสงไฟ เปลี่ยนสีได้ โดยมันเคลื่อนไหวได้ แสง สี จะเปลี่ยนความเข้มความสว่าง คือเราเล่นความเคลื่อนไหว”

ไม่เพียงแค่การพลิกโฉมใหม่ให้มีชีวิตชีวา แต่ event ยังกลายเป็นเครื่องมือทางการตลาดที่สำคัญของสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ในการเป็น magnet ดึงดูดลูกค้าที่เป็นวัยรุ่น สยามเซ็นเตอร์ตัดสินใจจับมือแม็ทชิ่ง สตูดิโอ ซึ่งได้สิทธิ์ในการลงทุนติดตั้งจอภาพขนาดใหญ่ ตามจุดต่างๆ ของห้างสยามเซ็นเตอร์ จอภาพนี้จะเป็นทำหน้าที่เป็น สื่อโฆษณา และการสื่อสารกับลูกค้าที่มาในห้าง ในชื่อ ชีสมีเดีย

งานนี้ แม็ทชิ่งยังทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้ผลิตรายการ ด้วยการลงทุนติดตั้งสตูดิโอขึ้นในห้างฯ และทำหน้าที่ เป็นผู้จัด event ในจุดที่เป็น event zone โดยมุ่งไปยังกลุ่มวัยรุ่นที่มาเที่ยวห้าง โดย event เหล่านี้จะถ่ายทอดไปยังจอภาพภายในห้าง เสมือนกับเป็นโทรทัศน์ชุมชน ที่เป็นมีวัยรุ่นเป็นกลุ่มคนดู และเป็น content ที่สำคัญ

คัมภีร์การทำธุรกิจของห้างสรรพสินค้าจึงไม่ได้หยุดอยู่แค่การเลือกสินค้า หรือบริการให้สอดคล้องกับ การจัดหน้าร้านเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่ต้องคลอบคุลมไปถึงการจัด event ที่ต้องโดนใจกลุ่มเป้าหมาย

หลังจากปรับปรุงสยามเซ็นเตอร์ใหม่ บริเวณชั้น 1 จะกลายเป็นแหล่งรวมแฟชั่นแบรนด์เนมสุดเปรี้ยวจากต่างประเทศ และเป็นแหล่งรวมร้านแฟชั่นกีฬาระดับหลายยี่ห้อ เช่น Roxy , Ripcurl, Paul Frank, Volcom และที่สำคัญคือ Adidas Original Store ซึ่งจะเป็น shop ใหญ่ที่สุดในภูมิภาคของอาดิดาส และเป็น Flagship Store แห่งแรกและแห่งเดียวในประเทศไทย

3. event ที่เน้นกลุ่มวัยรุ่น
การติดตั้งสื่อโฆษณาแบบจอพลาสมาภายในสยามเซ็นเตอร์และสยามดิสคัพเวอรี่กว่า 70 แห่ง ร่วมกับ จอ LED ขนาดใหญ่เคลื่อนที่ได้ตัวแรกของภูมิภาค บริเวณลานระหว่างสยามเซ็นเตอร์และสยามพารากอน เพื่อนำเสนอเนื้อหารายการถูกใจวัยรุ่น ทั้งรายการแฟชั่น รายการเพลง เบื้องหลังโฆษณา ก็จะช่วยสร้างสีสันความทันสมัย และเติมแต่งความีชีวิตชีวาให้กับสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ให้เหมาะสมกับ position ใหม่ที่ตั้งเป้าจะศูนย์รวมวัยรุ่น และศูนย์รวมกิจกรรมที่เกี่ยวกับวัยรุ่น

ใครที่ผ่านไปผ่านมาย่านอาคารสยามเซ็นเตอร์ในช่วงหลายเดือนที่ผ่านมา คงมีโอกาสได้เห็นภาพคนงานหลายชีวิตกำลังเร่งมือปรับปรุงอาคารกันอย่างเต็มที่ โดยไม่สนใจว่าจะมีสายตานับพันนับหมื่น ที่เดินผ่านไปมากำลังจ้องมองแต่อย่างใด

บริษัท สยามพิวรรธน์ จำกัด เจ้าของตึกสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ตัดสินใจ renovate อาคารสยามเซ็นเตอร์แบบยกกระบิ ทั้งรูปลักษณ์ภายนอก ภายใน ไปจนถึงผู้เช่า แบรนด์เสื้อผ้า และสินค้าทุกอย่างที่วางขายอยู่ด้านใน เพื่อต้อนรับขวบปีที่ 35 ของสยามเซ็นเตอร์ เพื่อรักษาระดับมาตรฐานของการเป็นห้างสรรพสินค้าสำหรับคนรุ่นใหม่

นอกเหนือจากตัวอาคารที่จะถูกกรุด้วยกระจกมากมายภายใต้คอนเซ็ปต์ "The Magical Glass Box" และการวางแบรนด์สินค้าใหม่ที่ยังไม่เคยวางขายที่ไหนมาก่อนในประเทศไทยแล้ว สยามพิวรรธน์ ตัดสินใจที่จะร่วมมือกับบริษัท แมทชิ่ง สตูดิโอ จำกัด (มหาชน) ของสมชาย ชีวสุทธานนท์ หรือตี๋ แมทชิ่ง เพื่อวางระบบการขายโฆษณาภายในอาคารใหม่ทั้งหมดด้วยในคราวเดียวกัน หลังใช้เวลามายาวนานกว่า 2 ปีในการหาข้อสรุปและวางแผนโครงการดังกล่าวร่วมกัน

ป้ายโฆษณาแบบดิจิตอล หรือที่เรียกว่า "Digital signs" กลายเป็นจุดขายเพื่อสื่อให้เห็นความทันสมัยของสยามเซ็นเตอร์ และสยามดิสคัฟเวอรี่ ตึกใกล้เคียง ซึ่งสยามพิวรรธน์เป็นเจ้าของอยู่ด้วย โดยมีตี๋ แมทชิ่ง เข้ามารับหน้าที่ช่วยดำเนินการเกี่ยวกับ Digital signs ดังกล่าวแทบทั้งหมด ภายใต้บริษัทใหม่ที่ชื่อ "Cheeze Media"

หากสิ้นเดือนตุลาคมสยามเซ็นเตอร์รูปโฉมใหม่เปิดให้บริการ เด็กวัยรุ่นหรือผู้ใหญ่ที่แวะเวียนไปจะได้เห็นจอภาพทั้งแบบพลาสมา และแอลซีดี ติดตั้งในจุดต่างๆ กระจายกันทั้ง indoor และ outdoor เพื่อฉายภาพโฆษณาที่ผู้สนับสนุนหลากหลายรายซื้อและทำสัญญาเช่าที่ ขายโฆษณาเอาไว้ เช่นเดียวกันกับการนำเสนอเนื้อหาเพลง ตัวอย่างภาพยนตร์ และอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย

เช่นเดียวกันกับจอ LED แบบโค้ง จอภาพชนิดใหม่ที่มีคุณสมบัติ ในการแสดงผลได้ดีกว่าจอ 2 แบบที่ผ่านมา อีกทั้งผู้ชมยังสามารถมองเห็นภาพได้ชัดเจนแม้จะอยู่ในมุมมองใดก็ตาม ซึ่งจะถูกนำมาติดตั้งภายในอาคารสยามดิสคัฟเวอรี่ เซ็นเตอร์ นับสิบจุด

ส่วนที่โดดเด่นที่สุดก็เห็นจะเป็นจอ LED แบบโค้งที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ถูกนำมาวางเรียงกันถึง 3 จอบนรางโค้ง ที่รองรับการแบ่งแยกจอออกจากกันเป็นจอเดียวหรือทำให้ติดกัน และ เลื่อนไปมาได้อย่างอิสระ ซึ่งติดตั้งอยู่บนลานที่เชื่อมระหว่างอาคารสยาม เซ็นเตอร์และสยามพารากอน ที่กำลังอยู่ในระหว่างการก่อสร้างและจะแล้วเสร็จภายในสิ้นปีนี้

ไม่เพียงเท่านั้น การทำโฆษณาแบบใหม่โดยใช้สื่อ Display เข้าช่วยก็จะเป็นอีกสิ่งหนึ่งที่พบเห็นได้ในสยามเซ็นเตอร์ สื่อ Display หลายอย่างถูกจับจองจากค่ายต่างๆ เป็นที่เรียบร้อยแล้ว เช่น Nokia และ Apple พร้อมการออกแบบ Display ให้เตะตา ดึงดูดวัยรุ่นให้เข้าไปหา ทั้งแบบเก้าอี้นั่ง และจอภาพที่ต่อเชื่อมอินเทอร์เน็ตเอาไว้

ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นการพลิกโฉมการทำโฆษณาแบบใหม่สำหรับ เมืองไทย ที่แต่เดิมเป็นเพียงป้ายผ้า กระดาษ หรือพลาสติกเท่านั้น แต่ยังถือเป็นการตัดสินใจหารายได้จากการทำโฆษณาอย่างจริงจังของสยามเซ็นเตอร์ด้วย หลังจากที่ผ่านมารายได้จากค่าเช่าเป็นหัวใจสำคัญมาตลอดหลายปี เพราะแว่วๆ มาว่างบลงทุนการติดจอใหม่หมด ไป 120 ล้านบาท แต่คาดว่าจะคืนทุนได้เพียง 2 ปีเท่านั้น ที่เหลือก็เป็น กำไรเห็นๆ นั่นเอง

สยามสแควร์ในอดีต
พ.ศ.2453 พระพุทธเจ้าหลวง ทรงพระราชทานที่ดินบริวณปทุมวัน จำนวน 1,903 ไร่ ให้เป็นที่ตั้งของโรงเรียนมหาดเล็ก

พ.ศ.2459 ได้ถูกสถาปนาเป็นจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยที่ดินบางส่วนก็ถูกนำไปให้เช่าเพื่อนำรายได้ไปบำรุงสถานศึกษา

พ.ศ.2504 จากการขยายตัวของชุมชนเมือง ทำให้บริเวณปทุมวันมีราษฎรอาศัยหนาแน่นมากขึ้น ทางสำนักงานจัดการทรัพย์สินจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จึงกำหนดให้มีการพัฒนาที่ดิน จำนวน 352 ไร่ เพื่อสร้างเป็นตึกแถว พร้อมกับระบบสาธารณูปโภคหลายอย่าง

พ.ศ.2507 พื้นที่บริเวณสยามสแควร์ ประมาณ 63 ไร่ครึ่งสร้างเป็นอาคารพาณิชย์สูง 3 ชั้นครึ่ง ขนาด 4X14 เมตร มีรองศาสตราจารย์เลิศ อุรัสยนันท์ เป็นสถาปนิก ศาสตราจารย์รชฏ กาญจนวณิชย์ เป็นวิศวกร

พ.ศ.2508 ปฐมบทสยามสแควร์ เริ่มต้นขึ้นในปีนี้

พ.ศ.2509 โรงแรมสยามอินเตอร์ คอนติเนนตัล โรงแรม 5 ดาวเกิดขึ้นเป็นโรงแรมแรก

พ.ศ.2510 โรงหนังสยามบุกพื้นที่สยามสแควร์ ปี พ.ศ.2511 และปี พ.ศ.2512 โรงหนังลิโดและสกาล่า เกิดขึ้นตามมาเป็นลำดับ

พ.ศ.2516 ศูนย์การค้าสยามเซ็นเตอร์ ผุดขึ้นมาในฝั่งตรงข้ามสยามสแควร์ ด้านถนนราชดำริ

พ.ศ.2520 เกิดโรงโบว์ลิ่งเป็นแห่งแรกในสยามสแควร์ ที่อาคารสยามโบว์

พ.ศ.2527 โรงแรมโนโวเทลสูง 21 ชั้น ขึ้นมาแทนที่ของสยามโบว์ นับเป็นอาคารสูงแห่งแรกในฝั่งสยามสแควร์

พ.ศ.2528 มาบุญครอง ศูนย์การค้าขนาดมหึมาฝั่งตรงข้ามสยามสแควร์ ด้านถนนพญาไท แจ้งเกิดอย่างสวยงามในวันแห่งความรัก

พ.ศ.2540 เปิดสยามดิสคัฟเวอรี่ "Life Style Center" พร้อมๆกับการตอกเสาเข็มก่อสร้างทางรถไฟฟ้า

พ.ศ.2540 สยามสแควร์ซบเซาอย่างหนัก เพราะสาเหตุของการก่อสร้างทางรถไฟฟ้า และภาวะวิกฤติทางศรษฐกิจ

พ.ศ.2542 รถไฟฟ้าเปิดใช้ ทำให้สยามสแควร์ฟื้นคืนชีพสู่ยุคทองอีกครั้งหนึ่ง

I'm amazed!
The company said more than Bt25 million would be spent on a special lighting system imported from the US and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on the outer and inner walls of the centre which would give the effect of a glass box that could keep changing its appearance.
I saw the color changing lights in the escalator atrium - nice but subtle. Wondering what it will look like on the outer walls. We'll soon know I guess :)

Anyway, yes.

They are installing the cover roof to cover to space between glass and wall up to prevent water leaking in...which might effects the lighting system in the future.

After that, light-bolts will start showing them selves...;)

I just went to siam center yesterday.The whole new complex looks too white.Luckily,They added some neon colors on escalator,ceiling and column.It makes more colorful.As i saw from pic,I feel that the FOOD COURT gonna be Rocks!@ ..I saw the counter bar or something in the pic.I kinda like it.I'm so bored with old-fashioned food court style.

can't wait to see two complex lighting system racing each other
