my fav tall structure is the BRICK chimney! wonderful workmanship by bricklayers. true engineering feats.i could look at them for hours. i actually find them more intersting then skyscrapers.
heres my fav chimney in Australia. The smelter at Mount Morgan mines, QLD. At 76m/250ft it was tallest brick stack ever built in Australia.Still stands proud today as tourist attraction at mines.750,000 bricks!
the top ornate head was removed in 1991 due unstability, its now 69m.
Ive managed to get friendly with mines managment last year and they were really happy when i told them there stack is biggest ever built in Australia! Im sending them a diagram with the top 20 or so tallest brick chimneys with Mt Morgans in centre. Also another diagram in 1905 showing how it was one of tallest structures in the country!
has anyone been there?

check this out! the sheer size of the stack can be seen. On completion in 1905 it was 2nd tallest free standing structure in Australia, just 2m lower then shot tower in Clifton Hill.
