punkstarbassist101 November 24th, 2004, 08:49 AM Hey I was just viewing the toronto.com webcam and noticed the new logo on fcp lit up I didnt know it was lit up yet. How long has it been lit up for? Here are some pics with the webcam (they're not the greatest)

Lucky 24 November 24th, 2004, 08:56 AM They must have been lit up for a few days at least because I took some pictures on Sunday and the sign was lit then. I haven't seen any threads making mention of it...maybe no one noticed.

Me too
tod24 November 24th, 2004, 09:15 PM a long time, like a month
ONE HUMAN November 24th, 2004, 09:45 PM Last time I saw it, not all four sides were done. If you were viewing the proper corner, you could see both the old and new logos lit up.
Aside from the fact that the old logo is simpler in design and it was part of our skyline for a long time, it's actually better from the standpoint that it's easier to make out. The new white M in the red circle isn't as legible. This is mainly because the M is smaller, the panel seams are visible, and the contrast between the M and the background isn't as great.
I much prefer the old logo. This is one of those cases where progress took a step back in my opinion. It won't affect my life, but I'm disappointed they made this change. I think it was a complete waste of money. I would have preferred if the money had been spent on doing something about the FCP facade.
vid November 24th, 2004, 10:13 PM ^They actually spend money making the signs pre-dirty so they didn't have to clean the facade.. :|
ONE HUMAN November 24th, 2004, 10:35 PM Yeah, I read that too. They actually didn't do a very good job dirtying the new facade around the sign according to this daytime pic which was posted by Laurens in this thread (http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=122168).
Look at the beauty and simplicity of the old logo. What a shame.

ONE HUMAN November 24th, 2004, 10:40 PM Looking at this pic, if they really needed to add the brand label "BMO", I think I would have preferred if they had added the letters "BMO" to the right corner of each side and kept the original blue M in place on the left corners of each side. Not as good as just the blue M on its own, but probably better than what we have now. I mean look at it. It looks some big cheap sticker attached to the building. Lame.
Who makes these decisions anyway? Even worse is that horrible CIBC logo on CCW and it's not even that old. What are these people thinking?
elliot November 24th, 2004, 11:41 PM This reply is well-informed, ridiculous as it will sound.
Some nice folks who worked at American banks told Canadian banks to lose Canada ... that is to say, change your brand so no-one will know you live in an igloo.
Royal Bank of Canada now = RBC
Canadian Imperial B of Commerce = CIBC
Toronto Dominion Bank = TD ... +Canada Trust (final transition next year, Trust me)
B of Nova Scotia = Scotiabank
And...
Bank of Montreal (that's in Canada or at least Quebec) = BMO (Financial etc.)
Get it?? See it??
True.
ONE HUMAN November 24th, 2004, 11:49 PM Yeah, we know. That's old news. Doesn't change the fact that the new logo looks shitty.
vid November 25th, 2004, 03:04 AM There is a Bank of Montreal at the amll across fdrom me, and they haven't changed their sign yet. None of the BMO locations have changed actually, aside from paper work. THey haven't gotten their wave of updates to us yet. We're not as important :P
I also realized someithng: All of Torontos tallest buildings have huge ass signs on them. And they're all banks!

Indeed, Toronto's not Canada's financial capital for nothing....;)

Always sound short for "bowel movement."

As completely off-topic (but typical westerner habit) as that is, it raises a question...can marble be power-washed clean as easy as the old sandstone facades can? The old buildings were almost always clad in sandstone, and is so porous, they turn black from the polution very quickly...they seem to clean reasonably easy though.
